Maybe I'm simply just doing this for me, but maybe it's time to "Put the nail in the coffin", even though I probably did that long ago without ever saying so to anyone, including myself. I'm not the journal writing type like I used to be, so let's give it a go for old time's sake.

I've been a member of this site much longer than the profile's age will probably tell you. A great amount of my growing up was done through this site as a matter of fact. It's certainly quite an adventure of memories to look back upon. The friends I made & lost. The mistakes I made. The growth of my love for the machinima medium. The discovery of how truly naive I was. Boy, 14-19 year old me feels like quite the different person to my 23 year old self.

But I look back upon those memories, even the not-so good ones, and I remain happy. Happy that they helped make me who I am today. But who I am today also moved on. Moved on to follow old friends or make new friendships elsewhere. Moved on to begin doing what I always wanted to do, only wanting to do more & better still.

So maybe I'll continue to sponsor Rooster Teeth, whom whilst I have a less keen interest in their current activities, I continue to respect them and enjoy what they create. Maybe I'll keep popping back here & then. But I feel my journey in life here concluded long ago, and I feel somewhat obligated to leave a mark confirming that.

It was quite an experience. To the eyes of the readers that will probably never read this, whom I may see another time, or may never see again; Farewell.

    • A lot of "Valve Time"

      Bizargh

Wow! How long has it been? Guess us "old" lot really have moved on to other places.

After the mini-series I left my work on was shelved, I've had a lot of time to experiment with GarrysMod & TF2.

Made a vid, scrapped a vid, made some screenshots on my DeviantArt, then made a TF2 replay.

And then came along Source Filmmaker. Never saw it coming.

It's one of the most incredible things I've seen a developer do for it's community & the general public, and it's been nothing but amazing to see so many creations of a wide variety of humour, pure madness, and artistic film-making, all so fast. Among my many favourites:

      - After Aperture
      - Goldrush
      - Meet the Family (Leaked Build of SFM)
      - Meet the Gift-Givin' Heavy
      - Practical Problems
      - We Met The Team

Even had a bit of a go myself: Meet the Bizargineer

Otherwise, I've been spendin' much of my spare time with King Sangos, either chatting about the incredible ideas he has, the numerous ideas I seem to be unable to choose which to focus on, body acting for his many incredible ideas, and trying to get back on track with actual video-making after the massive shake-up the moving home fiasco caused (which by the way ended in failure, but there's always another out there, when the time's right).

    • "Big Project" Abandoned & E3's Surprises

      Bizargh

This mini-series I've been going on about the past year now? Well, unfortunately, I've had to abandon my part in it. Let's just say it was rather ambious for my inexperience of making a much more planned production, whereas I'm more used to more spontaeneous or vaguely planned creations. Now at the moment, FilterShakes is either trying to find another director to film it, exploring other methods such as comic, or planning to shift his focus to another idea he came up with relating to Mass Effect. Suffice to say, I'm back working on my old ideas again.

As for E3, 343 certainly gave a big bang of Halo 4 information, delving into the new enemy we face amonst the divided Elites & ex-Covies (who appear to be perhaps taking a friend and foe perspective with the Arbiter on one side, "The Servants of the Abiding Truth" on the other like the preceding novels seem to indicate), "Spartans Ops" Co-op mode and giving a bigger taste of multiplayer. I still remain eager to see more on the Custom/Forge side of things I suspect being saved for another event such as San Diego Comic-Con (which will really determine my thoughts on Halo 4 as a game), but for the first time in Halo 4's life among the public, I'm rather excited for it, not just interested.

But E3 on the whole was rather unsurprising on the whole in the swarms of sequels (or prequels including "Gears of War: Judgement"), but Ubisoft's having a good time, especially with the first new IP reveal I saw in E3; Watch_Dogs, a game that looks to mix the concepts of Grand Theft Auto's open world, Splinter Cell & Assassin's Creed all into one very interesting mixture.

Certainly has gotten a lot of games for 2013 on my radar, whereas a whole variety of shooters seem to be left for 2012 (manly as hopes for being friendly with video-making).

    • New Vid.

      Bizargh

Almost thought I'd never see the day I make a vid actually designed for entertainment since Reach Runner.

      the beta, was super awesome

It's just a little something I've always wanted to do. Back during Reach's buildup, a music artist by the alias gutterXshark became a Bungie favourite when he'd take their interviews & vidocs and remix them.

I've always wanted to take two of his notable creations, "the beta, its super awesome" and "Forge is Crazy", and make a new video to it's music showing where we are now (That at least in my eyes, the Beta was super awesome and Forge really was crazy).

After failing to do it last year and Gmod proving unhelpful with this idea, I finally did it in the space of the weekend. Gotta be a record for me (though being 60%-70% Reach Beta archived gameplay was very helpful).

Just as I was excited for completing the Part 1 script, FilterShakes has the mini-series under go another big change. Luckily, this keeps Part 1 mostly intact and ends it on a second part instead of a third, with the older vision in mind. But I'm finding it so extremely hard to cope with all the changes, so I hope this will be the last big one, otherwise I might find it hard not to reluctantly throw in the towel. We've worked very hard for a long time on this project, but I'm really beginning to miss attending to the more casual or simplistic ideas of my own.

But these changes are encouraging me to take the time to watch Reservoir Dogs at least, as apparantly we're now just copy-pasting character personalities from there as the main templates for ours, but I have to see it for myself to get what he's really aiming for, cause I'm not exactly seeing where precisely he's going with this. But he is the film expert between us.

Though that said, I've managed to squeeze in a little free time to make another filler vid in light of a certain occasion. Should have that finished very soon.

On a less complicated note, I've helped puppeteer for King Sangos once more in his long brewing explosion of vids, one comically filling the plotholes to Arbiter617's "Rise of the Spartans" and two directly involved with his "Wings of Equilibria" series (which if you haven't seen, I highly recommend you do. I think it could honestly be one of the greatest story based Halo machinimas ever created).

Rise of the Paragon - The Crime Scene
Tales of Equilibria: Tome of the Mist
Wings of Equilibria Chapter IV - Shadows

And it seems he took some time to have me and FilterShakes "BERYLed".
I wonder if it's actually that surprising that what I believe is one of Halo machinimas' greatest minds of present times is also one of the most unusual of them too? Though what does actually surprise me is how much we seem to share in common when it comes to machinima & what makes them good (though I certainly wish I had his knack for writing right about now).

    • A Light at the End of The Tunnel

      Bizargh

After 4 months of continous errors and the grief that followed, I've decided to leave the flat. It's just not worth it. Might be a long time before I find a better place with adequate ASD support in place, but I'm sure there's more better than there than not. Still a few things to sort out, but at least I see it going somewhere unlike beforehand.

And getting on topic of the Mini-Series, Filtershakes and I have successfully determined it's ending in summary, a milestone in comparison to recent progress. I must say, after the effort this mini-series has had and still needs, I cannot estimate the level of celebration I will have. I'm starting to think if we can't progress to a trailer soon enough, I'll get some screenshots and show what we've made thus far.

And Halo 4's proving to have much more potential than I gave 343 credit for: thereclaimers343.blogspot.ca/2012/04/halo-4-gameinformer-m...

While I must say, 343's seems to be trying hard to make me hate them (in armour design, Chief and alien, that's working on the most part for now. In piting us against the Covies again, I can see why it works for the first level, but still, do we humans have to fight everything?!), they're also trying to win my love by doing things better than expected, and they've succeeded in some ways. Bringing back both the DMR and BR? Genious! But they still give me more reasons to question them. Turning the Loadouts toward a Battlefield Kit or Call of Duty system? I'm not so sure about that.

But giving the multiplayer a story actually appeals to me (if they don't rid of Elites altogether that is). It was as I guessed. Spartan IVs training in virtual environments. I can see the new trend(s) of machinimations that's going to create already. And "Spartan Ops", this episodic co-op story actually sounds interesting in the least. Still, I'm waiting for the "machinima friendly" features to be revealed before I'm sold on it. But it's fair to say 343's got me thinking if they've got enough excellent ideas to prove to me Halo should not have stayed dead, but still haven't rubbed out the doubts that make me think digging up the grave's a very bad idea. Here's hoping those same ideas help me and many more talented machinimators film our ideas.

    • ...It Always Gets Bigger

Well that particular situation I was in did get settled, but many more rose up and wreaked havoc. Moving home doesn't need to be that much trouble. Guess that's what you get for being Autistic looking for supported housing under a government cutting all funding to special needs resources I suppose. The anti-depressant medication keeping my anxiety levels at a controllable level haven't helped, but the new dosage at least gave me back my digestion and sleep. And that's why you shouldn't do drugs.

Well, that's the excuse for not doing anything. But what is it I haven't done?

Finish the script to Part 1 of the mini-series I'm working on certainly. Only thing productive I've done lately is puppeteer a bit for King Sangos and provide feedback on Doctor's Orders Ep. 4. Otherwise it's been a long week of playing through through Mass Effect 3 (despite the "ending", a truly amazing game).

Then comes Halo 4. Personally, the art direction for the armour could use a little less Halo: Legends familiarity, but it actually sounds like 343i has some good ideas nailed into their heads for gameplay at least (though I'm always very much reminded of Crysis when I see it). We'll see if they can actually pull them off. Still waiting to hear anything about the creative benefits of it, which is the only reason I'm waiting for it. If it's as good, or better, than it's predecessors for video making, I'm sold. Or at least they solve the "Online Weapon Lowering" problem that's plagued the machinimators since '07.

That's it really. Hopefully when I return, I'll have something to show related the mini-series.

    • More Than One Plate Can Hold. But...

      Bizargh

Well, 2012 has without a doubt kicked off to a hectic start. Got rushed into the flat and the "landlords" severely screwed with my rent. But it's far from all bad. The latter is hopefully getting resolved, it's a lovely place (empty mind you, but that does have it's advantages) I've found the majority of my needed storage/furnature and thankfully, I can still go home when I need to. All that's to tick off the list when that comes in is shelves for the pantry, a telephone and internet service.

But in admist of the chaos, the reference and backstory material for the mini-series I'm working on with SandSharky has been finalised, meaning that the remaining rewrites for Part 1's script can finally be completed in short time. And once it is finally agreed, we can start work on effect/art assets, get the voice actors we don't have yet, then finally the fun part; filming. Hopefully somewhere down the line, we'll actually have something to show for it. It's only taken us over 7 months to do.

In the meantime, here's some machinimas I puppeteered in:

Yeah, it did seem that the only character that stuck out was the guy they were sent to rescue, and it was a little odd seeing his character model popping up in every other scene as well. And seeing as he was the only character I could actually pick out, it was a bit of a "Oh." moment when he gets killed off at the last moment.
As for the audio it just seems to come across as a little... lazy. It's like: We spent six years working on this, but couldn't be bothered to record our own lines, just use everyone else's.
Sure, with Machinima you have to be understanding of the fact that it's a video game and it's going to look very familiar, but when I can pick out where every single line of dialogue comes from it goes from an enjoyable experience to a game of: "Guess the source." It stops being something that looks like 6 years of effort went into and becomes something that looks like it was just assembled rather than created.

Cryptum just takes everything you have learned about the Forerunners and throws it into a big pit, buries it, then shites on the top.
You remember the 7 halo rings? Well, Cryptum remembers 14.
Mendicant Bias, the awesome AI who defected to the flood, allowing his fleet to be consumed, turning on the forerunners and heralding the beginning of the end for the war? He didn't have a fleet apparently, and instead stole a halo. Yes, he stole a Halo and fucked off with it.
The Forerunner Homeworld is established to be a giant Terry's Chocolate Orange in space.
Humanity had an interstellar empire to match the Forerunners, but then got into a war with the flood, defeated them, and were then destroyed by the Forerunners for their troubles, de-evolved back to monkeys. Their san-shyuum allies, who were regarded as "The sexiest race in the galaxy" were simply turned into the prophets we know and love.

Everyone knows about why the Halos were built. The Forerunners were fighting a war with the flood, and "A thousand strategies were tried and failed" before the rings were built in a final act of desperation.

      Apparently not.

They were built after humans fought and defeated the flood, because the Forerunners felt like building them.
Oh, and the Forerunner society, despite boating members several thousand years old, is run by kids.
      Because why the fuck not?

Oh, and the Precursors? That race of beings revered by the Forerunners the same way the Forerunners are revered by the covenant? The ones who gave the Forerunners "The Mantle" the mandate to protect all life in the galaxy.
      The Forerunners killed them all.
      Because they're a race of utter space-cunts.

That's Frankie's view of the Forerunners.

      Well, it's not Halo, it's Frankie's Halo.
Which involves spacebikes, invisible spaceships and massive amounts of McXCortana.
Hell, they're taking up to some forerunner world, which would have been interesting pre-cryptum.
Now It's just going to be horrible, because we know how 343 view the forerunners, and they're a race of space-pricks.

I could sit down and burn off the scripts for an entire season in a couple of hours, that's no problem for me. Voice acting and recording, yeah, I'm not great but I haven't been doing it very long, I'm improving. I'm not completely deadpan with every line like some voice acting I've heard so at least that's something.
Those are the only three capture cards I ever seem to hear of.

I did buy a capture card a while back, back when the Machinima boom was still roaring. One of the Dazzle line. 90% of people said it worked perfectly.
10% said it was epic fail.
