    • The TRUTH about emo

It seems as though nobody here on Red Vs. Blue knows what they're talking about when it comes to musical genres, particularly this music some call 'emo.' Whether you love it or hate it, NONE OF YOU SEEM TO KNOW WHAT EMO REALLY IS.

The genre began back in 1984, when two hardcore bands, Husker Du and Rites of Spring, were the first to fuse the aggression of hardcore punk with intricate composition and musicmanship. This new approach effectively made their music more emotional than the hardcore or punk bands that had come before them. A new name began to be used to describe this style of hardcore. Fans called it 'emocore,' which stood for emotional hardcore. For the next ten years, bands who followed in the footsteps of Husker Du and Rites of Spring would play this 'emocore,' which would later be shortened to simply 'emo,' in deep obscurity.

Then, in the early-to-mid 1990s, two hugely influential indie rock bands emerged: Fugazi and Sunny Day Real Estate. While neither of these bands were emo (or even hardcore), people who simply did not know what they were talking about decided that these two bands were now 'emo' and that anyone who was influenced by them from that point on were also 'emo.' This was an eniterely wrong way of thinking. Unfortunately, however, that is the misconception that the media has now picked up on, making the confusion more rampant than ever. Everything that people believe about emo, from its aesthetic to its music, is a huge mistake, and all because of ignorance.

Do not dismiss this. Chances are that your perceptions are completely flawed. Too many people think that emo is the antithesis of hardcore, but the truth of the matter is that emo IS hardcore! As a matter of fact, the bottom line is that if a band does not play hardcore, it simply cannot truly be emo. People went wrong in believing that Fugazi and Sunny Day Real Estate were emo because they drew from the influences of early emo bands - and because Fugazi contained former members of Rites of Spring. Just because you are influenced by or affiliated with a genre does not mean that what you are doing with that influence or affiliation is the same.

If you want to know what emo really is, check out bands like Circle Takes the Square, Funeral Diner, Raein, Daitro, Saetia, Hot Cross, Envy, I Robot, Ampere, and, Palatka. On every website where there are communities or groups or forums about music, there is always someone in the midst of the pretender-emo crowd who knows the truth about the genre. I invite you to do the homework yourself. And by homework, I do NOT mean anything that has to do with MTV. That's what got you all here in the first place.

    • My soapbox...

I'm really getting tired of the word "pwned," or however you spell it. It's just so stupid. Will everybody just stop saying it??? No??? Dammit.

Well, that's my soapbox. Thaknkfully, it's a really small soapbox.

    • An interesting little idea...

In my college political science class, we're all doing some heavy roleplay right now. The class is divided up into groups, and each group pretends to be members of a different Middle Eastern delegation. We hold our own peace conferences and have our own mock military supervisors and all that kind of cool stuff.

Well, just last week I got an idea: what if somebody did that for Red Vs. Blue? We could have one group pretend to be the red army and one group pretend to be the blue army, and we'd discuss what we'd do to each other, but in a wacky and funny way. Better yet, each person could assume the identity of a character! I could be Caboose. No mental responsibilities and you get to be funny. Or I could be Grif. Lazy as hell and I would get away with not caring.

It was just something I was thinking of...

P.S. I'm so glad the Mods are back again. :)

Halo 2 Volume Two by Martin O'Donnell comes out on April 25, and I will FINALLY get to own the composition I've wanted for years, entitled "Unforgotten."

      I'm excited.

I'd been gone from the forums since Christmas, but for the past couple of days I had been making it back here again. But what do I come back to? A considerable amount of chaos, apparently caused by the mods getting demoted. Can somebody tell me what happened? It's sad, man. Things actually haven't been as bad as I thought they would be, but the staff alone can't protect us from the idiots. If anything must go, make it the karma system!

      But are they really?

Now that Red and Blue are basically back together in Blood Gulch, will the war really be the same now that they all know each other on a personal level? In the words of Tucker, I miss the days when they were all just nameless assholes who would yell at each other.

We'll have to see, but I have faith in RT. :)

    • Who was it.../I miss Gary!

Alright, I didn't think the blue guy that appeared in Episode 68 was really Church, but now that Episode 69 confirms that he is, I have several concerns.

First off, who was it that made renovations to the Blue Base? Simmons believes Sheila is lying to him, and I agree, but Church was in Zanzibar that whole time, so he couldn't have done it! Who was it, then?

Also, I REALLY miss Gary now that we probably won't see him again. There's no reason for anybody to go back to Zanzibar, which means that Gary might sit in loneliness for the rest of his electronic life. And I'm really sad about that...

Funny how sometimes people can get negmodded for telling the truth. Like in a useless thread that everybody posts in, seeming too ignorant to realize how stupid it really is, when I try to make people realize it, they just negmod me as 'lame.' I don't think I'm the one that has the problem. lol.

UPDATE: I've seen this same thing happen to other people who knew perfectly well what they're talking about. Sadly, it seems as though this whole forum is being taken over by n00bs. :(

    • RvB at Gamestop (I was surprised)

My friend told me he found used copies of Red Vs. Blue seasons 1, 2, and 3 DVDs at the Gamestop where he goes to college in Northeast PA, but he didn't buy any of them because he wants to hold onto his 20 bucks. He hasn't even seen RvB but I want him to sooo bad. But here's my question: How could anybody SELL their RvB DVDs? We should hunt that person down for committing this crime...

    • Our newspeople can be so retarded...

A couple days ago I was watching the morning news when the anchors said that an anti-violence watchdog committee is now trying to get rid of the ESRB in favor of a 'better' game rating board. But here's the part that really bugs me: the anchor said that "up to now, the games have been rated by the companies developing them. The watchdog group hopes to establish an independent rating committee." That pissed me off. Where are these people getting their info? HILARY CLINTON?!!! I mean, THE ESRB IS AN INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATION, and the game companies do NOT rate their own games! These people that millions trust for their daily information are only being led astray. Is anyone else bothered by this?
