      Prologue to TO: Uncon Journal

TO: Uncon is over and I had a blast, but I'll be saving my full journal about the fun I had for tomorrow. In the mean time, I'm going to end this journal with a gif that sums up my thoughts and emotional state as I realized that both TO: Uncon and the current RT site would be gone after today.

      5 Facts about Myself

      1. I procrastinate, a lot, hence why this journal is happening a week after the trend passed. Somehow though I always manage to pull off success at the last minute, which could explain why I still do it.

      2. For the last year or so, I've been binge watching anime like it's the end of the world. Some of my favorite series in no particular order are; Sword Art Online, Log Horizon, Future Diary, Aldnoah Zero, A Certain Scientific Railgun, Death Note, Psycho-Pass, Naruto Shippuden, Pokemon, RWBY (Obviously), Attack on Titan, Avatar: TLA & LOK, Zoids: Chaotic Century and many more.

      3. About a year ago I ran a Zombie 5K with one of my best friends Matt. For someone who barely exercises once a year, let alone run a 5K, I did pretty well. I was even in decent shape when I finished it, not too out of breath. I really enjoyed it and might do it again, but only if I ran with people I knew.

      4. Video Games are my life, I don't actually remember a time when I wasn't involved with video game culture. I even want to be a video game designer, specifically a concept artist. I love concept art for it's rich colors and potential to show a world that may not be a possibility in the final product of a game. For me when I look at concept art, I'm looking at the fully realized version of that world not bound not technological limitations. The trick for me is to not let procrastination get in the way of practicing my art skills, which is hard. I've still got a long way to go.

      5. I love you guys, that's right I used the "L" word. I got involved on this site almost 10 years ago to watch Red vs. Blue and maybe talk nerdy to a few people. Instead I found a talented, loving community of fellow nerds and geeks that accepted me with no judgments and who I can be myself with. Some of the events I've attended over the last few years have also helped me break out of my social shell in a big way and I can never thank you guys enough for that. I'm sure I've said this in multiple journals and posts before, but just in case some of you don't know, I consider this site my home and this community my family. I love you. smiley12.gif

TLDR: I procrastinate, like anime, ran a 5K, want to be a video game concept artist, I love you all!

      RIP Monty

I'm not very good at expressing myself with words as it is, especially now with this tragic loss.

I never knew Monty Oum. I briefly passed him in the VIP Lounge at RTX 2014 and while I loved his work and wanted to say hello, I didn't because he was probably there to take a break from all the fans and I didn't want to be a bother. Even though I never got to know him personally, I will never forget him or his tremendous impact on this community.

Name Your Own Price Game Design Bundle

The title says it all, sort of. StackSocial.com is currently offering over 100 hours of Game Design courses ranging from scripting and level design to drawing techniques and modeling using programs like Unity 3D and Photoshop. All you have to do is pay more money than the current average for all 4 training apps, which is currently $7.57, for content that would cost around $800.

An even better incentive is that the money you spend goes to one of the following charities: Child's Play (Which is the charity I'm selecting), World Wildlife Fund, and Creative Commons. Now keep in mind this bundle is only for the lessons and training in Unity 3D, Photoshop and Maya, the actual programs do not come bundled. However they list ways to get the free versions of these programs for you to use, the only exception is Adobe Photoshop.

Click here for the Game Design Bundle.

Whether you choose to buy a bundle or not, share this with your friends or anyone you know who might be interested in making video games. This could be incredibly helpful to them and the money is going to some great causes!

      Not Another Damn Post-RTX Journal!!

Yes it's gonna be one of those journals people, procrastination and I have a love/hate relationship but I've finally got through it to write this. I'm going to avoid writing numerous paragraphs explaining how much fun I had and how awesome RTX was because frankly there isn't enough space in this journal, so I'll just write down some highlights from my experience.

      - I spent quite a bit of time during the weekend hanging out with @Jteeth, @MisterJ984, @Victolic and my roommate @PreacherPain.
      - Also spent some time hanging out with @ActionMan and helping him with his injured leg. I hope him a speedy recovery, but I can't deny that being his VIP +1 for a couple days was pretty sweet.
      - Each day after RTX I went to the RT SideQuest events and they were amazing, major props to Newbs for helping to put it all together and bringing everyone such joy! (My mistake, major props properly go to @GB330033 for RT SideQuest. However @Newbs does deserve credit for the incredible Rooster Speak Dinner!!)
      - Spent quite a bit of time talking to the very talented @lukemckay and even got some of his books and posters signed along with a portrait of my face. (Which should be my avatar once I get my scanner up and running.)
      - I got addicted playing an iOS game called Battle Nations thanks to Luke Mckay. It's kind of like the Civilization games, but in a military sci-fi setting and the characters are funny as hell, very reminiscent of Red vs. Blue with quite a few pop culture references. The combat and story is very addicting so if you play or would like to, hit me up on there (JoshPhil1138) as I'm in a Rooster Teeth guild with Luke and we could always use more players!
      - Throughout the weekend I've run into and talked to some of my good friends and made some new ones, not that I have any bad ones on here, like @Cheshire_Cat, @Cove, @OboeCrazy, @Hunter, @Nat, Toku @Schraver, @Blitz120, @Juls, @Steven, @DarkBowler, @Dracoizumi, and I'm sure I've missed some people so if I did I'm sorry and I owe you one extra hug and a drink. smiley12.gif
      - Spent the last night at Buffalo Billards for SideQuest hanging out with all the awesome people listed above and good times were had by all.
      - On the last day, Monday July 7th, I went to the Salt Lick with the others. I went by cab, but with the trip being expensive as hell I ended up sharing it with Hunter and @Tejnin who does some amazing cosplay and was an absolute pleasure to hang out and chat with. Thank you for being awesome and for the cosplay tips, keep up the awesome work!

In the end the trip was phenomenal and even covering the highlights doesn't do the event justice. No doubt talking about it with you guys when we meet at future events will bring up some memories I can share, I hope everyone had a great time and a safe trip home. I surprisingly didn't cry as I left, probably because I know I'll be seeing some of you in less than a month at TO: Uncon, but for those I won't, it was awesome seeing you and we'll just keep in touch on here! I check the site multiple times a day, so this site is the best way to reach me.

That's about it for now, I'll talk to you guys later. Remember, play more games!

      I'm snow over you

Horrible pun I know, but after weeks of snow than sun than back to snow, I'm done with winter. I have so many cool geek and RT shirts (pun not intended) I want to wear and show off, but I'm having to wear my hoodie over them.

This morning when I looked outside my bedroom window and saw our street covered in a layer of fresh unplowed snow, I found it to be kinda beautiful, even though I knew I was about to do some serious shoveling. It probably took me close to three hours, with the help of some kind neighbors, to clean off my car down the street, my mom's car, and the street across from my house where I usually park. It was really nice being able to work side by side with my neighbors and even though I was cold and tired, by the end of it we were proud of ourselves.

So to the dirtbag who came in and immediately took my parking spot, not 5 minutes after I cleared it myself, know this. Your days are numbered!

      23 years later . . .

I gotta say that turning 23, not that big a deal for me. I kept it small, had a simple dinner of chili and got a few cool gifts, but I think the next few birthdays won't mean as much as my previous 21st did. Although it is snowing here in Maryland which is pretty wizard, people still say that right, whatever I'm bringing it back!

Regardless of all that, what really brightened my day was all the messages I've been getting from my facebook friends, co-workers and all you lovely RT people. You all really know how to put a smile on my face, so thank you all for that and just for being a part of my life! smiley13.gifsmiley12.gif

I'll end this journal with a couple quick updates with me:

      - I booked my RTX and PAX East rooms. I always make sure that I get a two bed hotel room so if anyone needs a place to crash during those events, contact me and we'll work out the details.
      - Went to go see the LEGO movie with my grandmother a few days ago, it actually wasn't that bad, had quite a few hilarious moments. But in the end Wreck-it Ralph is still my favorite kids movie!

That's all for now, talk to ya later!
