Chill out, what you yellin' for?
Lay back, it's all been done before,
And if, you could only let it be,
      you will see

      But, but, but...

      No, it hasn't

You're watching your back like you can't relax
      You're tryin' to be cool
You look like a fool to me
      Tell me

Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're acting like you're somebody else
      Gets me frustrated

Eat some reds and try to calm down. Smoke some grass, shoot some fucking smack! Shit man, do whatever you gotta do.

      (Seriously though, don't do drugs)

We all need to remember, content is what brought us all here in the first place. Whatever reason RT had to update the site before RTX, I'm sure it was necessary. So there are a bunch of issues on the social side of things, so what? They'll get remedied, we all know that. RT loves its community and knows that we're a big part of its success. They aren't going to leave us hanging, but we'll need to bear with them until the dust settles.

As frustrating as it is that notifications, journals, groups and forums are all different and buggy, the old site was on a respirator and needed to be replaced, we all know that. Not everyone who enjoys RT's content is a sponsor and/or community member, and it's their content that pays the bills. As with any project, you need to prioritize and you need to take care of the stuff that keeps the lights on first.

For now, go outside and enjoy the summer, everything will be alright.

I didn't think we needed a poll to state the obvious, but here it is:

*shrugs* It ain't all that bad, especially if our bad rep keeps the tourists off the parkway smiley8.gif

Because otherwise I wouldn't get phone calls like this:

"Hello I need a cable to connect to the HTML port on my laptop so I can use a projector."

Made my freakin' day, I couldn't make that stuff up if I tried.

My pal @Desayjin needs a hand with his "Ask an Economist" journal series.

All that it'll cost you to help is 60 seconds of your time.

He's trying to figure out the expected Return on Investment that gamers have across different types of games.

If you can take this quick and anonymous ROI Survey that would be grand.

The questions are simple, What type of games to you play? What's your favorite type? How many hours to you expect to get out of a $60 game? How about a $15 game? How many hours a week do you game? How many different games have you played in the last month?

That's it, very painless and you'd be helping out a community member for free.

What are you still doing here? GO TAKE THE DAMNED SURVEY ALREADY!!!!1111

I totally got a shout out from @Gus for knowing my Eastern European current events!

And then he referred to me as "some idiot on twitter"...

My first reaction was "HEY WTF!" and then I paused and went, "Well, yeah I guess I can't argue that"

I had no idea this was happening until just now, but @GRatFinn through the RT NY Community group, which I know and love, has issued an open challenge to the entire RT Community RTNY vs. The Community.

If you are part of another regional group, or even a non-regional group that can get a team together, then I invite you to challenge RT NY at the game of your choice. In the word of my Brooklyn born dad, "We may not win the game, but we're gonna win the fight afterwards!"

Seriously though, I guarantee you that win or lose, you'll have a good time playing with and against this awesome group of RT Community members based out of the New York Metropolitan area. I suck at FPS gaming, so I probably won't make the cut for some of the more popular challenges, but that won't stop me from hanging in party chat and talking trash smiley8.gif so I hope to see you there!

    • So you're thinking about applying to be a Guardian

The applications will likely go live in a few days. Even though in years passed, many a person with more friends/followers than I have have written journals about this, I figured I'd give it my perspective as a 3 time Guardian and a two time Team Leader.

Let me preface this by saying I have absolutely ZERO input on who gets accepted and who gets selected for which teams. I apply every year like everyone else and that also means there's no guarantee that I'll be accepted again as a Guardian at all let alone as a Team Leader again. What I can do is offer my experiences and opinions and you can take from that what you will while making your decision to apply.

Being a Guardian is hard work. Depending on your assignment, it may involve heavy lifting, standing in one spot for hours, running around town running errands, dealing with irate attendees, early mornings (6am start times) and late nights (11pm after hours end times). The Head Guardians and Team Leaders do their best to help alleviate those conditions as best they can, but at the same time they have to guarantee the safety of everyone there and try to manage an immense task with limited resources. On top of this, you're volunteering.

Whatever you may have heard about nice things RoosterTeeth has done to show appreciation for Guardians in the past, you need to be aware that none of that should be expected. If you're interested in being a Guardian because of whatever perks you think it comes with, stop right there. This is a volunteer position and you need to go in with that mindset otherwise it will be a problem for both your personal expectations and in conflict with the expectations of everyone else supporting the event.

So why do it? They say that the bonds forged between soldiers in combat are some of the strongest. That's pretty much what it comes down to. That's the one perk I can guarantee you, you will work side by side with people willing to volunteer their free time to do whatever needs to be done to make sure other people are enjoying their experience. Those are relationships forged in fire under stress with a common goal to benefit others. That's the kind of bond that can last a lifetime, that's worth it every time.

The first time I applied, it was just because I wanted to help give back to a company that has given me so much entertainment and laughter with their content, and for free at that. That has continued to be a goal in successive years, but then there was a new reason which became just as important to me, which is to re-unite with those I bonded with the previous year(s) and also to make even more new trial-by-fire friends in the same fashion. If those two things aren't in your top reasons for wanting to be a Guardian, you're going to be disappointed and you're likely going to make everyone else's job harder because of that.

TL;DR: Do yourself and everyone else a favor and make sure you know what you're signing up for and why before you submit an application. It could be either the best experience or worst let down of your life and that all depends on your outlook going into it. smiley8.gif
