WOW. So last year was interesting. For the details, go read my HUSBAND's (man I love saying that) post about ALL THE THINGS.

Since he wrote that recap of 2014, we've purchased real furniture that we can really sit on! It hasn't arrived yet, but that's beside the point (soon, soon....). The cat has accepted Sean as her "real" father at long last. She also had her first emergency vet visit after falling off the upstairs railing and limping around afterward. She's OK now (just some bruising) but she was trippin' balls for about three days because of the pain meds shot (it wasn't as funny as it sounds). Sean and I are also diving right into a whole new realm for us--yard maintenance! The prior owners planted over 200 bulbs last year and didn't mark where they were, so now we're seeing the results after months of wondering. So far we have daffodils, hyacinths, and tulips, and something mysterious and different is starting to push up.

I now have two months of unemployment behind me and am staring month three in the face. I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, I've gotten caught up on SO MUCH STUFF, can spend more time with family and friends (Sean's and mine), and do a bunch of wedding planning.

On the other hand, it's hard to watch my savings fund slide lower and lower after I worked so hard to build it up.

As of right now it looks like soon I'll be moving back in with my parents until I get on my feet again. I won't mind living with them because we get along pretty well, but I feel like it's admitting defeat in a way. I'd also rather be moving in with Sean, but that'd just mean I'm moving in with HIS parents instead of mine...so not an ideal situation either. There's still some time before I need to make a decision about moving, though, so I'm hoping something comes through before that deadline. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

...but dammit, the siren song of "White Christmas" called to me, and I was powerless to resist. I try to save my first seasonal viewing of it until mid-November, but I was in a bit of a doldrums today and "White Christmas" always makes me feel better.

Wedding plans are moving along well. Most of the vendors are booked and we have appointments scheduled for cake and food tasting--nom nom! 129 days to go!

Wow, being with RoosterTeeth is the longest relationship I've ever had! Except for family....and certain friends....well hell, my statement just falls apart when I think about it, so let's move on, OK?

I feel like I should share something insightful or personal to mark this occasion, but
      ain-amp-039-t-nobody-got-time-for-that_o

What I will say, though, is that I am grateful to have gotten to know so many cool people through this community (Except for you. Yeah, you. You know who you are.). Even though I'm not as active here as I once was, I look forward to many more years of being a part of your lives. Thanks for letting me be part of this not-so-little-anymore corner of the world.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of Week Four of unemployment. I'm totally digging how many projects I've been catching up on (especially wedding planning), how much reading I've been doing compared to "normal," and how many people (family and friends) I've been able to spend time with. It's like a preview of retirement! If not for the fact that I will be needing a steady income again sooner rather than later, this is totally something I could get used to.

Sean's birthday is next week and I'm looking forward to spending a long weekend celebrating with him. We're going to Chicago to celebrate, but I'm not saying anything else because I don't want to spoil the birthday surprise.

Wedding plans are now merrily chugging along. I bought my dress and accessories and we are narrowing in on a venue and date. We're also scoping out rings and preparing for engagement photos, which my sister kindly agreed to take.

Sean and I are also working our way through the Acquisitions Incorporated podcasts, which we were first introduced to through the live D&D games at PAX. The band of merry men is composed of Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik from Penny Arcade, Scott Kurtz of PVP, Wil Wheaton of everything geeky and internet-y, and as of this year fantasy author Patrick Rothfuss, along with Chris Perkins of Wizards of the Coast as their esteemed DM. If you're looking for entertaining listening in roughly 45-minute chunks, I highly recommend these podcasts.

So, hi, yeah, it's been a while. Life has taken an interesting turn as of late--and by "of late," I mean "yesterday." Yesterday Sean and I got engaged. Woo-hoo! :-D

      Here's the full story:

This past Friday one of my friends got married in Chicago. We left the city yesterday around noon to return to Morris, with me driving and Sean navigating. We were about 20 minutes out of the city when Sean asked if we could stop at a jewelry store in Morris so he could get something fixed. I asked him what was broken, thinking it was the watch I got him for Christmas. He said he couldn't explain it; that he needed to show me instead. He reached into the back seat to get something out of his luggage.

Now, if all had gone as smoothly as planned, Sean would've pulled out the ring box and asked me to marry him right then. Life is life, though, so Rico Suave's plan didn't go as expected.

What happened instead was that the ring fell out of the box. At first Sean couldn't find it, so he kept digging. Then he heard a clang-clang-clang as the ring fell out of the luggage onto the floor of the car. At this point Sean couldn't hold back an "uh-oh." I asked what was wrong. He asked if I could pull off the interstate so he could look for something. I asked him if it could wait until we got to Morris; he said no. By this time I was getting suspicious, but told him we could pull off in Joliet and stop in the park-n-ride lot near the interstate. Poor Sean had to wait for another 20ish minutes until we got to Joliet. He hopped out, found the ring on the floor, put it back in the box, and got back in the passenger seat. He said, "So, I have this thing and it doesn't really fit me. Maybe it'll fit you." He pulled out the ring box (now with the ring where it should be) and asked me to marry him. I said yes.

Then I tried to put the ring on.

My sisters advised Sean to buy a size 7 ring. For the record, I wear a size 6, so pretty good guessing on my sisters' part. Sean instead bought a size 9 because he wanted to be sure that I could get the ring on my finger. He was right in that the ring slid onto my finger easily, but it certainly wasn't going to stay there. It didn't even stay put on my thumb. Oy vey. Fortunately we'd pulled off in Joliet next to the mall, and in the mall was a storefront for the company he bought it from, so we popped on over there to get it taken care of. I am ringless at the moment, but am looking forward to wearing my shiny, new, fitted ring in a few days.

So that's the long and short of it, folks. Get ready for wedding mania!

Sooooo Monday my dad had emergency gallbladder surgery. It went really well and yesterday morning he came home feeling sore but otherwise OK. Funny--all these years I thought he was full of piss and vinegar, but it was really just bile!

The next week is going to be hellish at work. I'm prepping for next Wednesday's board meeting as well as a Friends of the Library meeting one week later. Usually that's more than enough time between 'big' events to follow up on one and prepare for the other, but for the six days between these two meetings I'll be in Albuquerque. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the southwest--especially the hot air balloon fiesta--but I'm super stressed right now getting everything in place.

This wouldn't be so bad if I had an assistant director to help out--buuuuut I don't. I went through hiring someone earlier this year and she was supposed to start at the end of August, but the night before her first work day she found out about some major health issues she needed to address and had to back out. So now I get to start the whole rigamarole all over again. Oh joy.

On the plus side, I am VERY EXCITED about going to Albuquerque next Thursday. Sean and I are going for his cousin's wedding, but we also plan to partake of the balloon fiesta, Santa Fe, and exploring the local breweries. I have a college friend there that I'd like to catch up with if we have time, but I'm not sure that's in the cards.

Tomorrow is the beginning of the 2012 Grundy County Corn Festival (yee-haw!). I'll be selling pork chops and chicken tomorrow evening as a fundraiser for the local Kiwanis club. Over the next few days I will be running a gauntlet of deep-fried everything on my way to and from work. Silly me; I actually thought I would ~lose~ weight before vacation. At least I'll be out of town during the worst of it on Saturday. I need to get my MacBook fixed (boo) which means going to Naperville, and while I'm there I'm going to meet up with one of my college friends/ brand-spankin'-new mama for lunch (yay!). I also need to pick up a new swim cap and goggles since my old ones decided to fuse together (ick) and stop at my favorite store with coupons in hand to get a discount sorted out for my purchases from last weekend (yay). If there's time left after all of that, I'll stop by the craft store to pick up more "baby soft" yarn to make some booties and hats for Sean's sister and BIL, who are expecting their first child in November.

Well, that's all I can think of for now. Stay sane, y'all!

I always tell people that are new to this area that if they don't like the weather just wait 15 mins and it will change again or take a short drive to the other side of town and the weather will be different there. =P

Pete would hate my guts if I moved to a different complex in my own 1 bedroom.....

He would hate me because he can't afford to live on his own.

I think it is time to move.

I just don't know how to break it to Pete.

I can't just change units, because I'm sure all the buildings have horrible sound insulation.

But if I leave for my own 1 bedroom, Pete is going to hate my guts.

Then again, he is very messy and I can't seem to get him to clean. He also is guilty of waking me up a lot.

So I hung out with awkward girl again today. Sadly not alone yet. We were in a group of 6 or 7. However, we spent about 15 minutes walking across the streets of Toronto, and during most of that time, me and her just hung back from the rest of the group and talked about a whole bunch of topics.

So she's looking me in the eye, engaging me in conversation, and heck at one point she even let me take a pic of her. That was at a point were everyone had pulled out their cameras and were snapping off images. However, she posed for me.

So I think she's comfortable around me enough now. Next chance that I get a second alone with her I am pouring on the groonz charm and asking her out.... fuck this took a long while, but figured you'd like an update.

Not yet, but I was planning on it soon. Maybe the next time I see her in person? If not the time after that for sure. I've been talking to her a lot via MSN, so I think she is starting to get comfortable, but I am not going to ask her out on the internet.
