    • I want to play, too

      Bradley

Recently, I made the decision that I'd like to do pseudo-podcast/Let's Play style videos with video games and some of my more exuberant friends.
If you know me at all, as several of you from the RT MN crew do, then you know that gaming with me can get nuts (on a side note, at your next Halo LAN party, try 300% speed, 50% gravity, Rocket Launchers and Energy Swords with infinite ammo, all in a Slayer Free-for-All in Valhalla or Ragnarok. You're welcome).

Anyway, I feel like it would be a fun thing to do, whether it takes off or not, and it would give me some good, general editing experience.

      Onto the vague proposal:
One thing that I know I want is to incorporate community input. I want this "series" (for lack of a better term) to include a wide variety of gimmicks and unique challenges within the video games that we will play. And by this idea, I want to take any and all suggestions from people, whether they intend to watch my videos or not.
So, if you have any ideas for a game that you like to watch videos of, or suggestions on crazy/bizarre/unique/funny things to do within any games, please feel free to pitch them to me here, in a message, on Facebook or wherever.

Also, if you want to get in on this action, please message me. It would be fun to get an ensemble of sorts to help create and promote our antics. So you've thought about trying this type of thing out, whether as pre-recorded videos or live streaming with a friend, definitely hit me up!

I just logged in to find that my sponsorship is gone, when I had set up an auto-renew account for it.

Not the end of the world, but it still saddens me. Hopefully the account support can help me out.

Why am I a Rooster Teeth fan?

Deja Vu: I talked about this exact topic in this journal entry and this journal entry.

To sum it up in a short explanation: not only has Rooster Teeth been one of my primary sources of weekly entertainment ever since the 8th grade, but the shows and the staff have been an enormous inspiration to me. If my father hadn't shown me Red Vs Blue all those years ago (circa season 2), it's possible that my dream of being a filmmaker and actor may never have even crossed my mind. This company has had a genuine impact on my life and its direction, and, whether I can make the dream happen or not, I will always be grateful for it. Because, at the end of the day, at least I have a life direction.

Thank you Rooster Teeth for everything that you've given all of us: Fun, Friends, and Fantastic Aspirations.
I can't wait to see what you folks do next.

I just saw the Spongebob Squarepants movie. For $2.... Plus the price of a burger and a beer, as it was at the New Hope Cinema Grill.

And you know what.... I liked it. I got to drink a beer and laugh at cartoons. Worth it.

It's interesting, because, as a kid, Spongebob was almost mildly humorous to me. As an adult, however, that show if fucking hilarious. Especially when there's a beer in my hand. Can't tell you why that is, but I don't much care either. I'm content to enjoy the show.

The best part... As I was leaving, I could have sworn the father that was sitting nearby me gave me a nod and a smirk as if to say "Thank you for laughing, as it gave me permission to laugh, too."

A week ago, I posted a random journal entry about my film school applications. In that journal, I felt compelled to mention that one of my biggest influences in life, and in my dream to create visual content that will entertain the masses for years to come, is Rooster Teeth Productions. Ever since I was 12, I have been looking up to the people of this production company, because they are incredibly talented people, and they carry themselves as genuinely decent human beings.

I think we can all agree that Monty Oum was no exception to that.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, a fact I will always regret. However, I feel the pain of his loss. Monty Oum was directly responsible for so much awesome Rooster Teeth content, the very content that I site as my inspiration as a film maker. It is difficult to cope with the fact that somebody who has inspired my life direction has passed away, whether I knew him personally or not.

Still... in his final hour, he has inspired me at least once more. It's moments like these that remind me that I should appreciate what I have and to continue to fight for all that I want to achieve. It reminds me how thankful I am for everybody in my life: my parents (my 2 greatest heroes), my sisters and extended family, my friends (both here and elsewhere), and every other person that has affected who I am as a human being.

I hope the pain that everyone is feeling lessens soon. I wish nothing but the best for his friends and family.

...except when it pertains to your future career path.

A week ago, I submitted my last of 3 applications to graduate school in film programs. Now, I have to wait for somebody... ANYBODY to contact me, hopefully with a favorable response.

The 3 schools that I applied to are:
      1) UCLA: Film Production/Directing
      2) UT Austin: Radio, Film, & Television Production
      3) Columbia College Chicago: Cinema Art + Science - Cinema Directing

The wait might literally kill me. Beer can only deter that for so long.

The reason why I wanted to share this update here is because, frankly... I wouldn't be doing this at all if it weren't for this site. For Rooster Teeth. The work provided by Rooster Teeth and its community has played a massive part in inspiring my dream of being a filmmaker and actor. My dream of entertaining people.
It wasn't some overly-artistic, avant garde piece of crap that inspired me. It was the highly entertaining films and videos that enthralled the masses, including myself. As I've discovered, being entertained is great, but no feeling in the world compares to being the entertainer. I love it every time I get to do it, and I want that to be my living.

Whatever happens, I'm glad my dad (wired_tl) showed me Red Vs Blue 12 years ago.

It just occurred to me, after the RTX date announcement, that I once again may not be able to attend. As much as I would love the personal weekend vacation, I won't be able to fork up the cash.

"But Brad... aren't you a full-time employee, doing something-something engineering? Surely you can squeeze it into the budget."

      Perhaps...

But I've also officially started my application for the Graduate Program in Cinema Directing at Columbia College. If all goes according to plan, I'll be in school by this time next year.

At least I have a reasonable excuse, this time.

If you know a microscopic amount about Shakespeare (which would be more than me), and anything about the subject matter that follows... then you win bonus points for knowing how the imagery of a "skull" has 2 meanings in the above title.

So... yesterday I attended an open casting call for a short indie film that has been in pre-production for 2 years.
What's the film about? Good question.

Turns out it's a fan film based on none other than our beloved Halo!!!

I've never wanted an acting role so bad. Okay... scratch that, I wanted to be in Star Wars way more, but this is still pretty exciting to think about.

They said I'd hear about callbacks within 24 hours... I've never checked my phone so many times in one day. Longest 24 hours ever. smiley4.gif

A thought occurred to me yesterday...

One feature I wish they had added to GTA V, or would add in an update, is an extra "radio station" that plays MP3 files stored on your console's harddrive.

After a while of playing that game, it's still fun, but the same set of tracks over and over and over wears a little thin. Especially if you're like me and can only stand to listen to 4 or 5 of them.

They included a feature like this in at least one of the previous games. Grand Theft Auto III for PC has a specific folder within the game files that you can copy music files into. If you do, an extra station becomes available called "MP3 Player" or something like that. It plays your music files at random. Vice City might have had a similar feature, but I can't remember.

I wonder how hard it would be to bring that feature to console... That one subtle change would make an already amazing game even better.

      How I write:

Outline: the basics of what you want to happen in each scene. No more than one sentence. Start with the first, then write the last, then fill in the middle.

Go into your screenwriting program (word/final draft/whatever), start writing the first one. Leave the program open. As you come up with ideas start writing, then tweak them to flow together
