    • Atheism vs Irony

      CAPTSean

(This is really more about internet trolls (who all seem to be athiests))

      * Atheists will quote The God Delusion to avoid thinking of their own arguments, while mocking Christians for quoting the Bible the same way.

      * Like Christians, many exhibit very serious cases of a persecution complex, believing that secret societies are trying eradicate them.

      * Constantly quote Nietzsche's "God is dead". Never mind that he was talking about slave morality rather than the actual entity. It looked cool on that shirt at Hot Topic.

      * Atheists worry that the "Under God" portion of the Pledge of Allegiance is subtly brainwashing people, while ignoring the massive amounts of restrictive legislation brought forth by the religious right.

      * Atheists will go into another soapbox speech when they are compared to dictators or other extremists.

      * Atheists who shit themselves over people with any sort of belief system are as obnoxious as the very people they whine about.

      * Often dwell on religion more then theists.

      CAPTSean

Well I've had an unhealthy week of mt. dew, no sunlight, and solitude in my room. You know just like every other week, but this time I was deep in gaming.
I'm sure everyone knows ODST came out, and even though I'm not really a halo fan any more I couldn't resist it.
I'd give the game a 4 out of 5. It wasn't much of a 'choose your own battle' like what Bungie said it was, some of the fight just felt repetative, ecspacially the end, and the engineers were just annoying not challanging.
      The pluses are firefight (of course), solid shooting macanics, and some of the best group dynamics I've seen in a long time;
In most cases the rookie is nervous, the black guy is religous, the demo is crazy, the tuff guy is just unlikable, and the seargent is a family man.
But in odst, the rookie is the strong silent type, the black guy is unlikable, the demo is still crazy but also smart, the tuff guy is a christian, and the seargent is the captain from Firefly.

But another game I bought this week, that I've been playing more the ODST, is Soul Calibur 4. I'm in love with the character creater and the primal yet enjoyable hack n slash fights.

    • Carbon Dating

      CAPTSean

Used to estimate the age of ancient artifacts and human and animal remains, radiocarbon dating is regarded by many as one of the miracles of modern science. Some, however, have serious doubts about the credibility of this technique.

Radiocarbon dating works by comparing the amount of normal carbon that is found in a sample with the amount of radioactive carbon. Both carbon and radioactive carbon are found in every living organism. While carbon is quite prevalent in these organisms, radioactive carbon is present only in tiny amounts. Some contend that the relative ratios of carbon and radioactive carbon that are found on the earth have remained constant over time and that, using known rates of decay; we can estimate age on the basis of changes in this ratio in a particular artifact or remains.

Radioactive carbon is absorbed by living organisms throughout their entire life. When the organism dies that absorption stops and the radioactive carbon begins to break down. Because this break down occurs at a known rate it is theoretically possible to compare the amount of regular carbon and the amount of radioactive carbon and estimate just how long an organism has been dead.

Although the theory of radiocarbon dating is interesting, there are several inherent problems with the process. The first of these problems is the fact that the original ratio of carbon and radioactive carbon is unknown. The second problem is that the possibility of contamination of the sample over time is quite high. The older the sample the higher the probability of contamination, in fact! What this means is that using carbon dating to date very old samples is really quite impractical given our current level of knowledge and technological capabilities.

While carbon dating continues to be considered by many as a viable way of obtaining authoritative dates for a wide range of artifacts and remains, there is much room for error in the process. Even the use of accelerator mass spectrometry to analyze the relative levels of carbon and radioactive carbon has resulted in flawed determinations. It is not uncommon for different laboratories to determine quite different ages for the same artifact! While some of this deviation could possibly be explained by contamination or erred methodology in the labs themselves, it is apparent that the problems with carbon dating are much more complex than that.

Very simply put, too many things are unknown to allow the carbon dating process to be as accurate as many proclaim it to be. Factors as diverse as changes in the earth’s magnetic field and changes in the amount of carbon available to organisms in times past could translate into perceivable differences in the carbon ratios in artifacts and remains from ancient times. Even changes in the atmosphere itself could impact this carbon ratio. We know that changes such as these have occurred over time. They are still occurring today in fact.

The fact that carbon and radioactive carbon are independently formed means that their ratios to one another could have changed substantially from ancient times to today. To base our knowledge on the age of the earth and its various constituents on information gleaned from a technique that depends on carbon and radioactive carbon ratios is very simply unrealistic.

Nothing much other then I've been hanging out with my friends lately. I went to the fair yesterday with them. I don't like how I have to pay 10 dollars to get in just so I can buy merchendise that would be cheaper any where else, but no my friends insisted that we go to the fair and just walk around for 4 hours.
      But yeah, nothing new.

I just found out today that firend of mine died last Sunday from a car accedent. I knew her since freshmen year. She was a sweet girl. I hear about people dieing all the time. It gets me thinking about life can be cruel sometimes and I usually say a prayer, but when somebody you know dies you just can't accept it. It sent a shiver up my spine. I was there when she presented her culmanting project at the high school and when she talked about her dreams for the future.
This has got me thinking about how cloes to death I can be. I've always seen myself as the hero of a movie. Even if something really bad happend I would never be in any real danger.
I guess I'm not immortal any more.

Lately atheists in my life have been throwing questions at me in hopes of of destroy me beliefes and my right as an American citizen to believe in what I want to beliefe. One my 'friends' lead me to this popular video on youtube called 10 questions that every intelligent christian must answer. And even though I do not agree with arguing religion on the internet is in anyway helpful. I have not read the whole Bible and I'm not a college graduate but I will try to answer these questions the best I can. I am answer these questions as if God exists so try to have some understanding.

Question #1 - Why won't God heal Amputees?
As soon as I herd this I thought "This is a really good question." But if it comes down to the wording of the question it has a simple answer, he does. Thats why when a surgical amputation goes horribly wrong a miracle may happen and the amputee does not bleed to death.
But what this guy is asking is why does God not regenerate lost limbs? During this question this guy kept saying if God cures cancer then why doesn't he cure amputees? Well when LETHAL cancer randomly disappers, which it has been recorded of doing so, that is a miracle that prevents death. A person missing an arm can continue living his/her life and don't "need' a miracle to continue living. A better question to ask is why does God let any suffering into the world? (We Christians have answer for that too) And there are cases in the Bible where God has regenerated limbs.

I will continue to update my journal with the rest of the questions. If any Christians are reading this I incourage you to watch this video, 10 questions that every intelligent christian must answer, and try to anwser the questions your self.

      They're getting ugly
      They're a horror show
      And now we're laughing
      Because they'll never know
      That they have everything
we give them all of our room
and they tell us they're sick and they're all alone.

They make fools of us together but we always think of them.
All their laughing and their talking and their wasting of our time.
And it always hurts to seem them now that everything is differant.
We don't like to see their eyes cause they will never look the same.

      They shut the door
      We fall far behind
      We try forgiveness
      But they cross the line
And now the moment has past and we can't rewind
We are dead long before we run out of time.

They make fools of us together but we always think of them.
All their laughing and their talking and their wasting of our time.
And it always hurts to seem them now that everything is differant.
We don't like to see their eyes cause they will never look the same.

    • Where have I been?

      CAPTSean

Actually I've been in my room on my laptop mostly. I'm writing three new stories that probably won't be finished any time this year. Or the next.
One story is a Biblical parody of Revelations (one of the hardest books to understand). I'm going to try and make heads or tails of it and turn it into a book of war, hope, and betrayle. The main characters are the 4 horseman of the Apocolypse.

My other story is an attempt at a comic book/graphic novel, like the Watchman. It is a combination of American action movies and Japanese animes. Basically the world and ultimatily been taken over by an evil corparation all thanks to their mercenary General, but a large and organized rebelion happens and the General switches sids. The main heroes are actually anime based and the General (a secondary character but still bad ass) is the American one-man-army. So yeah, super soldiers, mechs, strange colored hair, swords in gun fights, and school girls. You know, the works.

My third story, and the one I spent the least amount of time on, is a fantasy world made up differant varities of gothic styles. Punk, dark, Christian, emo, romance, viking etc. (yes viking is a gothic style)
I'm not sure on the plot yet but characters in the story will include The Big Bad Wolf, Little Red Ridden Hood, Prince Charming, The Oogie Boogie Man, Sweeney Todd, The Phantom of the Opera, Merlin, and The Mad Hatter as the main villian.

Anyway I'm excited to write these. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Well, I love to mooch off, but I only have a gmail and it doesn't work for some reason, and I don't remember my yahoo's password so I can't confirm it. Besides, why let this account go to waste? I live with him, technically as a roommate, so two accounts would be dumb for one computer if we both want to get on. We just get on one, well I do now. He's become so busy, it's gotten pretty lonely here...

This account used to belong to my best friend Arturo (Technically still does). He gave it to me because he said he was too busy to ever get on anymore and I usually always can. I can't change the gender and age because I can't find the option that let's me do that! So, where it says name I put my name, Ashley, and my gender and age.
Arturo is 18, so I don't know why he put 23. xD
