Hey there, remember me? Sure you do. Anyway, I haven't been on in a damn long time, mostly cuz I only really have the attention capacity to keep track of two social networking sites at a time. First it was just this one, then MySpace and this one, then Facebook came along. Now I've even got a Bahá'í website I go to, so something else might be going next. Most of the people I used to talk to on here are on MySpace and Facebook now, so it didn't seem necessary to keep track of this one. There's also the fact that this site had started to become an outlet the pathetic people who slam on others over the internet. I'll probably come back here now and then, but if you wanna' keep in touch more frequintly, here's my MySpace, and here's my Facebook.

    • what the hell Marvel!!

      ChickenBobo

I've been reading the Marvel Knights: Spider-Man comics lately. I like the Marvel Knights stuff, because slapping that title on a comic basically gives them a write to swear, show graphic violence and blood, and talk about sex. In other words, it's not for kids.

I was reading it, enjoying it, then along comes Edie Brock (aka Venom). I'd heard this was the comic where a new Venom emerges, and Edie dies, so I thought "oh this'll be great" thinking it would have some sort of epic fight or something. But did it? No!

Ya' wanna' know what happens? Edie Brock had a change of heart after seeing Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, and decided to give up the suit by auctioning it off, and giving all the money to charity (since the suit would have found a new body anyway, this way he'd do some good from it). Later, realizing he can never make up for all the bad things he's done, he slits his wrists and kills himself
Are you kidding me......ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!!

Sure there's a new Venom, but Edie Brock brought the beginning to one of the most beloved super-villains of all time, and they kill him off like that!!!

    • 30 Days of Night review

      A Masterpiece of Horror

When I entered the theater to see 30 Days of Night, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I hadn't read the comic series upon which the film is based, and I'd only seen the generic trailer for it. My expectations however were for a gorefest where plot and character development took a backseat to bloody action. Boy was I wrong.

This movie is almost all about the plot. Most of you probably know the basic idea of the story, Vampires move to Barrow, Alaska where night last for thirty days, but the best part of the plot is the characters. Each character is unique, and you genuinely care about what happens to them. After the beginning of the movie showed them to be likeable people just trying to live their life, it's incredibly heartbreaking to see them go through so much suffering. Amongst their suffering the film poses deep moral concepts. Would you sacrifice yourself to save others? Would you kill your own family if it meant they'd die peacefully by your hands rather than gruesomely by someone else's? Would you risk your life to save someone in your family? It's all incredibly deep, and all the actors do an incredible job of portraying people going through these moral dilemas.

That's not to say that there isn't a lot of gore in 30 Days of Night, far from it actually. However, for the most part the violence is limited to just enough that you know what's going on, but not enough to make you sick. There was really only one part in the film that I felt went over the line in violence, otherwise it's more of in the category of scaring you by what you don't see rather than what you do see. Examples include how the camera will cut away just as the vampires attack someone; or when lead character Eban (Josh Hartnet) is killing a vampire with an axe, but all you see is him swinging the axe and blood spraying onto his shirt. Also adding to this atmosphere is how in virtually every scene that isn't action-focussed, constant screams can be heard in the background. It all adds up to create a genuinely disturbing atmosphere that had me shaking as I left the theater.

Even though it stars blood-thirsty vampires, 30 Days of Night is a horror movie, not a slasher movie. The creators weren't as interested in grossing you out as they were in simply freaking you out. The atmosphere is terrifying, the story is engaging, and the characters feel real. Overall it's a magnificent horror film, and perfect for the Halloween season.

I was at the mall today, in Barnes & Noble, checking out graphic novels, and they started playing the song "I Shot the Sheriff". Never really cared for the song, never really hated it either, but not the best thing to listen to while your reading the comic book adaption of Nightmare on Elm Street.

Anyway, I left to go check out Suncoast, Hot Topic, and a few other places, and came about an hour later (my car was parked on that side of the mall) and they were playing the song again.

I left the mall, went in my car, and turned on the radio. Guess what song was being played?
It's like it was fallowing me or something! It was freaking me out!....not to mention annoying the hell out of me, 'cause it was getting old fast.

In Japan there was a 12 episode Devil May Cry anime series recently
The only version us Americans can get is online, with fan-made broken-english subtitles
I just finished watching them, and they're awesome
I've never played a Devil May Cry game, so some of the story went over my head (I think the show happens between 1 and 2) but it was still awesome.
      bloody, morbid, creepy, and BADASS!!!
this is the TV Links page for it
if that doesn't work, this guy on YouTube has all the episodes on his page

      ChickenBobo

Besides that last post which was really just a copy of a review I did for IGN.com, I haven't been on a lot lately.
      Here's what's up:
Basically, college has emotionally bitchslapped me. It's a ton of fun, don't get me wrong, but it's exhausting, because I basically have a 12 hour day.
The classes are actually somewhat enjoyable, because it's stuff I'm interested in (artsy stuff and writting). But I'm disapointed with the comunity. The college I'm going to isn't exactly party central. I've still made some friends, but I basically only see them during class. And the extra-curricular activities that I signed up for haven't really started up yet.
Oh, and also, in "The Art of Film" which watch some very strange movies.

    • Resident Evil: Extinction Review

      ChickenBobo

I remember in the special features for the second Resident Evil movie, producer Paul W.S. Anderson explained that the first movie is sort of a prequel to the mansion incident and the second happens during the second and third game. He also stated that the movies are in fact set in an alternate timeline to the games, which is why the Apocalypse ended with Umbrella continuing their experiments, and why Extinction begins with a little prelude saying the worlds more or less been destroyed and zombies are everywhere.

It is a requirement to know this before seeing this movie. Do not, I repeat, do NOT see this as a by-the-books direct adaption of the video games. You must approach the Resident Evil movies as their own franchise, separate from the games. Having said that, there are appearances by game characters such as Albert Wesker and Claire Redfield that are faithful to the appearance and personality of their video game counterparts. Also, the overall mood of the film is very RE. There are moments that will make you cringe, and moments that will make you jump out of your seat.

If you view this as a movie based on the Resident Evil games, you will be severely disappointed. If you view it as a separate work inspired by the spirit of Resident Evil, you'll probably enjoy it. As a movie on it's own, it's quite good, with lots of great action, scares, and just the right amount of story. Hardcore fans might want to steer clear, but casual fans or people who just like horror action movies should check it out.

    • Graphic Novels are NOT dead damnit!!!

      ChickenBobo

I mentioned to a few friends that I was considering making graphic novels for a career, and one of my friends said that it was a bad idea because "the biggest comic book selling store just went out of business."

Um, okay, newsflash, you're an Idiot!

He was referring to Shinders, which is stupid, because not only is Shinders only located in Minnesota, it's just our local Shinders that went out of business.

Secondly, the reason we don't see that many comic book stores anymore is because they've become accepted as forms of literature, and are at every major bookstore.

Thirdly, I just went to my registration at Century College, and got a list of books I need for classes. They have this thing called the "Century Common Book," which is a book the whole school has to read. Guess what were reading: Persepolis, a graphic-fuckin'-novel!!!

I was at a friends house a couple days ago, and we were just talking about random stuff, and I mentioned how I had a weird experience at Barnes & Noble recently when a girl started flirting with me while I was in the middle of reading Spider-Man: Reign.
I said to my friends "I was being a total geek and she starts flirting, what the hell's goin' on?"
Then my friends little sister chimed in: "It's because you smell good."
I went silent for a while then said "um...what now?"
She responded "I dunno', just when you walked in the house you smelled really good, so, yeah."

The moral of the story kid's?
When it comes to women, you can be the biggest geek in the universe, so long as you smell good.

I'm kinda' surprised the administration was okay with Julia and Becky going together

I wasn't. If the school won't restrain religous beliefs, then why would they restrain sexuality? I don't think the school could do anything to stop them anyways, and if they did try, the admin would've gotten a ton of complaints.
