I just bought this for me and my buddies to try to expand our weekly podcast (which until now was 2 or 3 people on a couch with 1 microphone). I've been messing around with it, changing different settings. Its a very nice device. I've only found a few kinks with it.

When I plug the device in, I lose my sound output in chrome/audacity. I'm running on Vista, so i'm not sure if perhaps its some weird driver issue. Because when I take the cable out, it works fine again. The even odder thing is that iTunes can still play fine when it is plugged in.

The other issue I have is Skype. I'm trying to find a way to record decent voice quality through a Skype call as well as alongside the microphones. My only solution I can think of is using my second laptop to receive the call, and use the microphone jack with an adapter to plug into the mixer. Haven't had a chance to test it out, but I was wondering if anyone had an idea on how to do it on just one computer (as this would make any kind of mobile set up easier).

So any advice given will be appreciated, and I can try to provide more information if it is needed to make a judgement call. Thanks in advance!

I'm looking at possibly getting a new router. I'm currently using a Linksys WRT160N router, and I've used it for the last year and a half or so. Its worked great for me. My older laptop is running a B/G card, so I know I wasn't getting the full benefit of the speed. But I picked up a new laptop within the last week that has a b/g/draft-n card. I was just wondering if any of the higher end routers (like the Netgear Rangemax or the Linksys WRT 320 N would get me a better speed over the one that I have. The Linksys packaging say that the higher end ones are built/programmed for better functions like gaming or streaming video, but how trustworthy is packaging, you know?

I've been trying to work on a buddy of mine's computer. Its having one of the strangest issues ive seen in quite awhile. It allows him to connect to a wireless network (be it mine, his, or any other). Certain programs will be able to connect, like AIM or occasionally Internet Explorer. But any attempt to connect to Firefox or World of Warcraft immediately are denied. He told me recently that he has no anti-virus, and turned off the Windows Firewall quite a bit of time ago. I of course berated him for this, and I'm leaning towards a virus as the issue. We took it to my work and did a scan with Norton Technician Toolkit, and I ran Hiren's BootCD on it, as well as installed and scanned with Avast Anti-virus. None of these programs found anything. We tried updating his wireless drivers, which actually downloaded and updated, but still did not fix the issue.

His machine is an HP DV6, running Windows Vista Home Premium. His stance now is that if it costs more than $150 to repair the issue, he's just gonna get a new computer. Does anyone have any idea what it might be? Were thinking of getting a hardware diagnostic on it, but we don't want to take it if we don't have to. He's a bit of a WoW addict, so he's looking to get the issue resolved ASAP. So any advice would help, and thanks to anyone who posts a suggestion.

    • Video Editing Software/Hardware Problems

I did a search for topic similar to mine, but didnt really see any results.

I purchased a Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG10 HD camcorder not too long ago. The video and picture quality are great for what I was looking for (video output is in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264). But I have been having some issues.

I have begun to try to edit some of the videos I have taken, and it has caused some major problems. When I play the files through Quicktime player, they play smoothly and without any lag. But when I try to watch them in the editor or play any outputed files (using AVS video editor), they become choppy and the audio is horribly synced.

I am running this on an HP Dv7-1135nr laptop (2.0 AMD Turion X2 Dual Core, 4GB of RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card). When I turn off the Aero features in Vista, the problem decreases but does not entirely disappear. So I am wondering if the issue is with my hardware, software, or both. I have considered buying/building a quad-core machine for the work, as some articles I have read recommend at least a quad-core machine to do any HD video editing. As MPEG-4 isnt really an HD format like HDV or AVCHD files, does this really apply? Could my graphics card just not be able to handle editing the files, even though it handles playing them? Could upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista help?

My other consideration is the AVS software itself. I am using the freeware version, and I don't want to pay to upgrade to the full version until I know this wont be an issue. Would changing over to another software such as Pinnacle Studio 12 be any different? I used an older version of Pinnacle, which worked for me on an older camcorder.

Sorry for the long post, I just figured I would put all my cards on the table regarding the issue, and the RT forums have always given me the best advice. Thanks for any help.

I recently starting filming with an Sanyo Xacti CG10 which outputs in MPEG4 files. The files run and look great in iTunes/Quicktime Player. I've been trying to use AVS Video Editor trial version to edit them, but when I play them in the editor they get choppy and the sound isnt quite on. Would that be the editor, or is it that my computer is not fast enough? I use an HP dv7 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium, with a 2.0Ghz dual core processor and 4GB of RAM. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated, as I dont want to pay for the editor and have it output choppy videos.

Hey, I'm looking for a decent but cheap HD Camcorder (which i know seems like a contradiction). I picked up a Flip Ultra yesterday (on sale for $130), but when I got home, I realized it was only SD, and not widescreen. I went back and swapped it out for a Vivitar 810HD ($100). It does decent outside, but inside its garbage. I'm looking at taking that back today and ordering the Flip UltraHD (the camera I originally thought I was picking up) for $200. I figured that since I'm going to be increasing the budget on the camera, I would see what other cameras are in this price range.

So the two features I'm looking for most are:
      - Widescreen HD for uploading to Youtube
-Decent, non-grainy look if in a lowlight area.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. I've also heard good things about the Sanyo Xacti , if anyone has any opinions on that.

I posted this in Lopez's Garage, but I go no responses. I also wasn't sure if I had put it in the right place. So I'll try again.

I just bought a 1996 Saturn SC2 recently. Runs great. I had the nifty idea to grab a small DC to AC power inverter and a portable DVD player with A/V inputs, and hookup my GameCube (both for fun on trips, and kicks and giggles). I wanted to know if anyone had tried this or something similar. I told a buddy of mine and he went on a rant about how I'm going to destroy the battery and the alternator by doing so. I'm thinking as long as its not too much at a time, it shouldn't wear it down badly, if at all.

So if anyone has any experience with something like this, or any advice, it would be appreciated. Also, if anyone knows of a decent/affordable portable DVD player with A/V inputs, it would be appreciated as well.

I've been wanting to get a GPS for quite some time, due to me moving farther away from my home city, as well as my work, school, and friends along with it. I want one thats good for PA ( I've read the area you live in doesn't really matter, since they have full US maps on most, but since PA is where I'm from, knowing it works well there would be a plus).

Another things I've been looking into is geocaching, or what amounts to a treasure hunting game using GPSs for those who dont know. I have yet to see a decent looking GPS that has both good driving directions as well as the ability to add in coordinates needed for the game. I know there is probably not a huge market for both, but does anyone know where I can find one, or if most GPSs (such as Garmin Nuvi's, TomToms, or Mio's) have this ability? Any help would be appreciated.

No I ment the halo 1 portion of that video was done months before halo 2 came out. It was just a short video of me and my friend talking about what game we were waiting on. The halo 2 portion was of course filmed after the game released.

I made that almost 4 years ago, some of that was filmed before halo 2 came out.
