Underestimating people is going to be Felix's downfall.

We've already seen it foreshadowed in Episode 1--a few times, in fact. The first is during Felix's fight with the grunts, in which we get a very "WTF?!" turn of the head after Stasney(?) accidentally shoots his own buddy in the forehead. Why? I think it's because Felix forgot about him. He thought this guy would be taken out by a pistol hitting him in the nose, and he turned his back on him for a little too long.

Felix's neck was wide open. If Stasney had been a good shot, Felix could have been paralyzed, or dead, or paralyzed AND dead.

Likewise, I don't think Felix was actually expecting that Captain Mayers would be able to hit the alarm. His "yes, I did have more fun because of it" line seems like post-hoc justification, to cut off Locus's scolding and to maintain the illusion that Felix always has everything under control. He botched that knock-out move (into your shoulder armor, Felix? Seriously?) and needed to deal with Mayers again after being just a liiiiittle bit sloppy. He was fortunate, again, that the people he was fighting were soft and untrained. This time around, he could afford a couple of mistakes.

And now we come to the Counselor, Aidan Pryce. Some prisoner who was introduced to Felix as "not really up to par" and "a smartass." Felix knows the Counselor's a smooth talker, but Felix also thinks he has the smooth-talking market cornered at this point. I think Felix recognizes that the Counselor is a threat, but I don't think he realizes just how much of a threat the Counselor is.

Specifically, the Counselor is the first person in the series to see through Felix's "I'm not technically lying" game.

I mean, you might call the "we'll let you off the ship" line a little bit obvious, but we also know Felix. He and the prisoners have never met. And all of them fell for it...except the Counselor.

Red vs. Blue may finally have a character capable of single-handedly outsmarting (not just tricking) Felix on his own turf. It remains to be seen what the Counselor will do with that power, but if I may offer a reminder:

Felix is a mercenary because he loves manipulating and killing people.

Locus is a mercenary because after the war, he thinks he's no longer capable of being anything else.

I get the impression that one of these mindsets tends to be easier to change than the other...

Did I...not ever link to the Shizno's interview with Miles in my journal? How did I forget to do that? Unforgivable. I really need to step up my game, otherwise I'm going to have a negative performance review with myself.

I just want to extend a warm and humble thank you to @miles for talking to the Shizno podcast last evening! We all had a great time, and it was such an honor for us to be able to share our special brand of nerdery with one of the people making it all possible :D

I'd also like to thank my fellow Shiznoers (Rane0, Niriall, Bobberton, Yelnocp, and Bacoose) for helping to prepare and organize the interview (in particular Yelnocp for getting in contact with RT peeps, and Rane0 for organizing things with Miles via Skype), as well as everyone who sent in questions for us to ask! This was my first time hosting an interview with an RT staffer, and it went very smoothly thanks to all of you :)

The interview podcast should be up some time next week, once we get our second finale Shizno out the door. I'll provide links at that point (SO MANY LINKS. BE PREPARED). Thanks again to all the people who made this interview possible! <3

While you may lean more toward the Psychology part of Science, I came across a most awesome series of lessons in Atomic Particle Theory as it is applied to Cold Fusion and Superconductivity (as well as Gravity/Anti-gravity and Quantum Mechanics).

Anti-Gravity / Cold Fusion Explained In Detail: A New Era In Physics

The narrator presents the topic in a very laid back way where anyone with a science background can easily follow along and I absolutely love his style of presentation.

Now, back to Part 10 (of ?).

My understanding is that they want to prove Quantum Mechanics is actually a subset of Classical Physics and it can be proved using Mathematics by quantifying Plank's Constant using two independent algebraic formulas. I just came across them in Part 11 and will be studying them in Part 12.

Also, there is much discussion about the Bose Einstein Condensate and how the speed of light has been able to be slowed down and even stopped (even if it is for the briefest of moments).

I'll be going through this series a few times, and I just so happened to have picked up a text book on Nuclear and Radio Chemistry printed in 1955 a few weeks ago and the topic of the of overcoming the Coulomb Barrier in both resources.

It's been far too long since I've studied this type of material and I am finding it refreshingly fascinating. And I came across the videos while trolling YouTube for Tesla material (a most underrated genius).

Hmm...interesting. I'm wondering why they're trying to tie quantum mechanics back to classical physics rather than special relativity here, given that electrons in the electron clouds around atoms move at a significant fraction of the speed of light...

Okay. I got white tea. It took me a while to locate it among the various teas. When I found it, I saw it had caffeine and had a picture of a green dragon the front. I tried to find a decaffeinated version but the only other kind was some orange flavored variety. I know that I was specifically searching for one kind of tea and only the kind of tea would affect my decision. But I still feel like I had fallen prey to marketing.

Um, I think it's said they can reduce the shield on the soles of their boots so as to not impend their agility or movement. It's at the cost of protection, but the alternative is obviously worse. (Hmm. Spartans flailing round and spinning on oily ice. Intriguing...) It's the same around their hands so they can interact with items, only at their hands it's just reduced to a millimetre of shield density.

Hola, I think you mentioned on a Shizno that you were bemused South was able to tip-toe through the centre of the Ice Base in half-ton power armour without making any sound with her boots. Just itching to answer, sorry! It's actually noted that the shields the Spartans use make walking feel like skating on oily ice, as they provide a barrier of liquidy-energy stuff between their soles and the ground.

If Freelancers used shields, which I think the characters have had in the past, her making no noise would of been plausible. When having to manoeuvre in battle, they switch the shield density at their feet off, so as to not interfere with their agility, explaining the step sounds later and before. So yeah, not sure if this had been brought up by anyone else, but oh well. The more you know, or something like that.

So how are things going your end?

    • DocRossim

7:30 am? Don't most people get up at that time? I have to get up at that time. I often don't and oversleep and then have a mad rush and forget to brush my teeth or something like that, but that's another story.
on the other hand most people probably don't stay up until 3am making 3D models and recording podcasts, so fair enough.

My Dad's uncle is here. He came down for my Nan's funeral the week before last and did plan to go home that weekend but on his way home he was in a car accident, now he's staying with us until he's feeling well enough to go home, so our free time isn't totally our own right now. He's not badly hurt, in fact my Dad's taking him home on Thursday, it's just that he needed to be with someone for a bit after the accident. His car is totalled though, he'll be taking the bus from now on. We also had my younger nephew here today, as I think Fleur (my brother's wife, Ewan's Mum) has chemo today... or it might have been her check up scan thing to see if the cancer's still gone... I forget. She's okay now mainly too, just dealing with the after effects. I wasn't in most of the day though, I do gardening for some of my neighbours once a fortnight and that was what I was doing today. Mainly mowing the lawn and pulling up weeds, cutting stuff back that's overgrown, not really gardening, just dogsbody stuff.

With all that's been going on my Mum said to "postpone" her birthday (which is tomorrow) until things have all settled down. We (my brother, my sister and me) were going to get a half-barrel pond for her frogs but we weren't able to find the moulded plastic one we were looking for so we need to sort something else out, at least we have a little extra time to get it sorted. I still got her a card though.

Anyway, I have some accounts to do for my Dad. I said I'd get them done but so much else has been happening lately I haven't finished them -- just typing up accounts into spreadsheets but needs to be done. I'd best get back to that.

Oh, by the way, an old friend of mine has recently returned to the site -- amarhsan (formerly amarh) -- so at least some good news.
