..was awesome. Go fucking see it.

And what I liked even more was seeing a preview for a new Terminator movie. Wtf? Have I been living under a rock? Actually, that's not too inaccurate, so maybe that explains why I didn't know they were making a new Terminator movie. What I really love is the fact that is going to take place during the actual future (that for three whole movies has constantly been alluded to and seen in only small snipets of flash-backs...or flash-forwards rather). Seriously, I didn't mind the third one but for crying out loud how many of these guys did they send back in time? And technically wouldn't it have been impossible for them to have even made a sequel to the very first one since Kyle tells Sarah Conner that the Terminator sent to kill her was Skynet's last chance since the humans (in the future) had already won? Does that mean they wouldn't be able to send more Terminators back? Guess I shouldn't get too bogged down with the technicalities, especially since T2 was a fucking masterpiece and I couldn't live in a world without it, but to get back to the point, they've really over-used the whole time travel thing, and its about time when get the rest of the story filled in. But the most awesome thing was seeing the Christian Bale is going to play John Conner. Fuckin A. Wouldn't want to have anyone else do it. I'm psyched.

On second thought, perhaps they sent the original T-800, the T-1000, and the T-X all at the same time to those three respective time periods (before John was born, when John was a teenager, and when John was in his 20s) and then the humans sent Kyle, and the two reprogrammed T-800s after those respective robots, then it makes sense, even though its a stretch and why the fuck wouldn't Kyle have mentioned that too. Maybe we'll even find out in the fourth. Perhaps it's related to the whole "changing the course of history" thing, like the way in T2 they were supposed to have prevented Judgment Day completely but in T3 we find out they only postponed it, so perhaps by changing the sequence of events slightly they made Skynet last longer in the future so it could send more Terminators. But then if Kyle is supposed to be Conner's father...which would suggest that Conner would not exist were it not for the fact that Kyle went back in time...then that sorta complicates the whole "changing the course of history" thing. And since the Terminator in T3 says rather unceremoniously and without any explanation that "Judgment Day was inevitable", that is evidence further against the idea that the course of events as they progressed could have been anything other then what they are (heh...so much for "No fate but what we make"...), but then from what I gleaned from the T4 trailer, the future "isn't what [Conner's] mother described", so that would suggest that the future that Kyle had described to Sarah and which she told John all about was "out of date"...meaning that the course of history was changed (Technically we already knew this since Kyle explicitly tells Sarah that Judgment day was August 27th 1997, which we learned in T3 came and went without incident...but only because Judgment Day had been postponed, so history was altered already) and so the future isn't what John expected. Am I making this too complicated?

See, this is why time-travel sucks. I'm glad that they're making a sequel that takes place in the future.

I wonder...surely Arnold isn't going to reprise his roll? He can't since he's Governor right? Besides, he's like 60. He managed to pull T3 off, but a fourth? There's no way. But, I do think it would be cool to see an army of Arny cyborgs.

I found a new place. Won't be moving in until September but that's fine. Its cheap, convenient, and I think I'm really going to like the change.

So, gonna see Batman today. Looking forward to that.

I've begun reading Heinrich Schenker's "Counterpoint", his treatise on the subject. So far its been incredibly informative. At first I thought he had a tendency to run off on tangents, but in fact all the examples he brings up deal with crucial issues pertaining to exactly what he is talking about in a given section, and they not only help illustrate his points but give you insights into, well, all of composition really. And sometimes he's funny too:

"Recently, Richard Strauss has developed almost to a mannerism the practice of inverting a second into a seventh in a melody, thus achieving surprising and strange effects. These could often be considered quite interesting if it were not for the fact that the composer's intent is often irritating."

      Well I think its funny.

...I found out today that I gotta find a new place to live. It sucks because I had a sweet deal here, and no matter where I go its going to mean it'll cost more (and it'll be more inconvenient because it'll be further away from the campus where I go to school), but I suppose I think I'll like the change. It'll be good for me.

What else is new...oh yea, I bought a little book today called "On Bullshit" by Harry G. Frankfurt, who happens to be Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Princeton. Yea. Its a mere 60 or so pages (tiny pages too, and really very few words per page. This book could have been under 10 pages, fuck maybe 1 or 2 if they really tried) and its a pretty interesting read. Its not meant to be funny at all. This is a serious guy talking seriously about what bullshit is. You have to laugh at it, and I doubt he is completely oblivious to the humour and irony of writing an essay on bullshit, but it really is at heart a serious essay.

So yea. I recommend that one.

Anyway, I'll be checking out a new place tomorrow. They gave me a month's notice, so I've got plenty of time to find a new place.

      Ok, journal is over now.

    • I'm back...

      DarthDidious

...after an extremely long hiatus. In case anyone was wondering where I was, well, I wasn't here. I lost interest in the site for a long time. I started university, had more than a healthy number of life-changing experiences and probably no longer resemble the person I was when I was last active on the site, but after such a long period of time away, and with the new RVB series, I thought "fuck it" and decided I ought to come back.

So here I am, for anyone who gives a shit. I cleaned out my profile and will gradually re-decorate the place when I feel inclined to do it. I probably won't be spending a HUGE amount of time here. I simply don't have the time to be really active on the site. But I'll be around.

Since there isn't a thread here for Battletech, I thought there ought to be.

Well I'm a long time fan of Battletech. Its an awesome game, and the universe that surrounds it is awesome too. So here's the thread for it. I'd like to offer up some linkage though to some sites that you really should check out if you are Battletech fans (and don't already know of these sites):

Battletech Universe- This is the number-one fansite for Battletech. Its a great place, and it has an active forum community. Sign up for it, and be sure to fill out the REFERRAL FORM and select "General Edwin Amis" off of the drop down menu. I'd really appreciate that.

In fact, I'll give 5 mods to everyone who signs up to their forums and fills out the referral form. You also have to make at least 10 posts for it to count. Give me your username so I can check that you signed up. I'm not kidding, I will give you 5 mods if you do this. Thanks.

The other really cool thing about that site is that they have system that's sort of like the mod point system we have here, only its C-Bills, and the great thing about it is that YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE C-BILLS TO BUY STUFF (only catch is 150 000 C-Bills = $1.00 USD). You get 1000 C-Bills every time you post, and you also get bonus C-Bills for rewards and winning contests and stuff. They have Mech Design contests, fiction-writing contests, painting contests. Its really a great site. You can even have games with people using a special program called MegaMek that is basically a computer version of Classic Battletech. The computer does all the dice rolls. Its pretty good. You can play against other players or against bots.

So anyway, its not just some forum. There's lots of features and its just plain awesome! JOIN UP! ....and please fill out the referral form! smiley0.gifsmiley0.gifsmiley0.gifsmiley0.gif ....c'mon now, 5 mods.

There's also FanPro's Official Classic Battletech Website. Its pretty good too. They have an online store where you can still buy many Battletech products like Technical Readouts, Sourcebooks, Scenarios, Minis, Mapsheets, etc. They even accept PayPal. There's even some new publications coming out, so all of you who thought your beloved Battletech was out of print, IT AIN'T TRUE. You can still buy most things. Battletech is alive and well.

      So, check those links out.

And as for this thread, I'd like it to be just a nice discussion of all things Battletech related. I'd prefer if it remained centered around the actual game itself and not the computer games. That's for a different forum, and this thread is likely to get locked if it starts to be nothing but a discussion of the Mechwarrior computer games.

      That's all.

How many of you still have your old consoles and still play them at all? I still have my SNES, and I enjoy playing it on occasion. I still buy games for it whenever I can find them. I thinks its amazing that its still more or less in perfect working order. You'd think it would just crap out on me by now, but it keeps on chuggin'.

I also have a Sega GameGear. It had a colour screen WAY before Nintendo got around to doing it. It was just a tad larger though...

in Forums > Clone High | Follow this topic

      DarthDidious

I bet that not many people know about this show, but those who do know that it is probably one of the funniest shows ever created, and also that it was cut short at only a single season of 13 episodes (each of which were pure gold) and no new episodes have been made. Thankfully you can at least buy the first and only season on DVD here in Canada, but what I and everyone else who ever saw the show would much rather have is new episodes. I have no clue why it was cancelled, but it seems to me that the people in tv have their heads up there asses because they continuously make nothing but crap shows and every time something great comes along like Family Guy or Clone High, they cancel it. At least Family Guy got 3 seasons though before being cancelled. God it pisses me off.

So, this thread is for discussion of favorite episodes and characters from the Clone High, and also a place where we can discuss the possibility of more episodes being created. With any luck, the same thing that happened to Family Guy will also happen to Clone High. With the release of the DVD here and the fact that re runs of the old episodes have been brought back on the air, I think there's hope for that. If there is enough of a demand, like there was with Family Guy, then it might be brought back, so show your support.

in Forums > Is downloading right or wrong? | Follow this topic

I thought I'd make a thread discussing the cases for and against downloading music for free off of the internet. Some countries have made it illegal, while others have had their supreme courts declare that it is in fact not in violation of copyright laws on the grounds that it is simply "sharing" music and no different from me lending you a CD to listen to.

      BUT

DO NOT POST ANY LINKS TO SITES FOR DOWNLOADING MUSIC. That's strictly against the forum rules. I want this only to be a discussion about whether or not it is acceptable to have music available for free on the internet. If you make any posts with links to sites offering free music, I'll report you to the mods myself.

      Sooo...

What's your opinion on downloading music?

      As well.
Ive not been so active lately and havent cared much about this and that on this site, than just visiting to see what hell has been happening here. But when losing so many mod points, it makes you feel that months of saving them up were for nothing. It also makes you feel silly for caring that much about them, but shit happens. But yes, a warning would been good.

I like your introduction good sir. You can label me an immature idiot all you like, as long as you believe the image I present on my profile. But leave room in your general assumption of me for the possibility that I'm not everything that is portrayed of my on my profile.

But I respect what you have to say about the immature people on this site. It's good hear other people think that too.

And may you have a nice day too good sir.
