    • Where do we go from here?

      DeltaSniper

"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile."
      -Albert Einstein

I ask the open question...Where do we go from here? This has a different meaning for everyone that reads this. For one it could mean where do we go from here now the we graduated. Another could be where do we go from here with our friendship we met do we meet again or only talk from a distance. Or even where do we go from here...you love a person but there are complications to why things are the way they are.

So I ask the question...Where do WE go from here? and Where do you go from here?

Now I do this because I haven't seen a lot of the people on my friends lists in years...I want to know what you are all doing with your lives...or what you plan to do with your life. I really would like to know.

To the people that are closer to me...the first question is more for you.

There is one person that I hope doesn't take this the wrong way. If it does...talk to me. You know who you are.

I had a friend kill himself almost a year and a half ago. From his death I learned from the words from my best friends mom...that you never really know when you will lose someone. You should never walk away without saying I love you to a loved one...cause that may be the last time you see them. I learned that you should always tell the ones you love that you love them...even if they pissed you off so much you never want to see them again. That could be the last time you see them. You never want to look back and get down on yourself by regretting the last words you said to them.

"A man who won't die for something is not fit to live."
      -Martin Luther King Jr.

A friend of mine ask the question...What is love?
I have my own views on love and I want to know what you think. Does that quote by MLK Jr have any significance in the question of what is love?

      I see love as:
I see love as having multiple meanings.
      1. Love for loved ones (family) no matter what they do you will still cherish the time spent and miss them when they are gone.
      2. Love for friends...the point to which you would actually die for them.
      3. Love for the game (with sports) they don't play for money they play because they love the game.
      4. Love for that special someone...you can't live without them, you think about them constantly, can't stay mad at them, the little annoying things they do don't bother you.

Love especially for that special someone...can be a risk. You can put everything into it just to learn they deceived you. That's when those friends that would do anything for you cheer you up and put you back on your feet to try your hand in that unpredictable thing called love.

So I hope you all will read this and answer the 2 questions for me.

Where do we go from here?

Today in the United States we celebrate our independence from England. The US became a free nation...but freedom comes at a price. A price which a lot of people seem to forget:
American Revolution: An estimated 25,000 American Revolutionaries died during active military service
War of 1812: Killed in Action: 2,260
Mexican-American War: Killed in Action: 13,271
American Civil War: North:110,000 killed in action & total dead 360,000 total dead, South: 93,000 killed in action & 258,000 total dead
      Spanish-American War: 3,289 dead
      Philippine-American War: 4,324 U.S. soldiers dead
      WW1: Military dead: 5,525,000 (Allies)
WW2: Military dead: Over 14,000,000 (Allies)
      Korean War: 36,516 dead (including 10,395 non-combat)
      Vietnam War: 58,209 dead
      Gulf War: 378 dead
Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan): 404 killed
      Second Gulf War: 3,586 dead

      America the Beautiful:
      Oh beautiful, for spacious skies,
      For amber waves of grain,
      For purple mountain majesties
      Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.

      Oh beautiful, for pilgrims' feet
      Whose stern, impassioned stress
      A thoroughfare for freedom beat
      Across the wilderness!
      America! America! God mend thine ev'ry flaw;
Confirm thy soul in self control, thy liberty in law!

      Oh beautiful, for heroes proved
      In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved
      And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine,
'Til all success be nobleness, and ev'ry gain divine!

      Oh beautiful, for patriot dream
      That sees beyond the years,
      Thine alabaster cities gleam
      Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea!

      Star-Spangled Banner:
O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air
      Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen thro’ the mist of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream

’Tis the star-spangled banner. Oh! long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave,

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation,
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our Trust"

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

      "God Bless The U.S.A."

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd hoped for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my family by my side
      I'd thank my God above
      To be living here today
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up next to you
      And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
      God Bless the USA
      From the lakes of Minnesota

      To the hills of Tennessee
      Across the plains of Texas
      From sea to shining sea
      From Detroit down to Houston
      And New York to LA
There's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say

Greatest Movie Speech about the Fourth of July:
We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

I never would have thought that after 17 years of living that I would meet someone that I had known before. I met someone I went to school with in the 3rd grade in Tulsa, Ok. back in the summer after 7th or 8th grade. Now in the last year...actually since the middle of March I have seen countless old friends (from other states) and actually been able to hang out with some of them.

I'll never forget having dinner with Kristan and Kara and then meeting up with Hannah later on in the night...after 10:30 if I remember right. I learned who some of my true friends were that night and learned what a true friend will do. Hannah and Kristan are true friends. I can't thank them enough for hanging out with me that night till past midnight in the parking lot of the motel.

I recently got home from my trip to Washington. There I had dinner with Joey and Bobby. A lot had changed in 6 years but they were still the friends that I remember. Joey we have been friends since 4th grade and Bobby that summer because of soccer. You two were close friends when I lived there and you still are. We can't forget James either...those were some damn good brownies.

True friends seem hard to come by here in Utah. Lots of changes in who friends were this year. I'm so glad it's over. Now I just have to talk to the people I want to. No more classes stuck with someone I can't stand.

This coming school year is looking very interesting. A few new friends will be going there. One has come a long way to go to school here, and I look forward to hanging out with them at school and in free time.

This summer may be looking up too. I have to hang out with some friends before they leave, hang out with friends in general, and play softball. Not too bad of a summer.

I really don't know who my true friends are here in Utah. You can't really tell until you move away and come back.

To all my friends thanks for the memories.

      Tell me what you think.

      ~Michael

If Palin had to step in I think we would be worse off than we are with Bush...and I mean that in all honesty and not because she's a republican. I would say that if Obama had picked her instead of McCain. She might have done good things in a small setting, but in a major role of even VP...I think she isn't a good fit at all.

I'm really good at organizing things but I work at a small office. If you set me in a larger setting and told me to go to work I would probably panic. I know it would be too big of a job for me and I wouldn't do an efficient job of it and that's how I feel about Palin. She might have been good for Alaska with it's smaller population and as a small town mayer, but at VP or potential Pres. of our massive, world-leading nation....the thought makes me shudder.

It's fine you don't like Obama, you are entitled to your opinion, but saying that you won't have a job is ridiculous. It's the military, they are always recruiting, always bringing in new people, no matter what kind of downsizing efforts may occur.

I would like to still have a job after I graduate

This is something Ive heard over and over again and it irritates me to no end. It's made to sound like he's going to disban the military which would be not only impossible but completely and utterly STUPID. You will have a job. The kind of thinking the suggests otherwise is, no offense, completely asinine. He wants to start planning for a withdraw from Iraq and concentrate on Afghanistan. He doesn't want to get rid of the military and there will always be jobs when it comes to the military.

My apologies for the gender thing. I was really tired last night; I'm not even really sure why I assumed you were female. My bad.

As for referring to McCain as John, I personally don't have an issue with that, but I guess that's something that is very subjective. Either way though, like BlawDee said, McCain has referred to Obama as "That one" right in front him, and I think that's far more disrespectful.

so much for your Det being so good, huh?

    • moocake24

if thats how you feel about joining the world's most powerful air force, so be it. but I want more than anything to be a pilot (fighter, bomber, helo, UAV, it doesn't matter), and your FT score greatly affects getting a rated slot like that, so I'm going to do my best there. as for the decorations, I realize that many people may not care about it, but I'm the first person to go into the military with plans to do it for more than 4 years in my family, so I intend to do all I can to make them proud.

again, I'm sorry you have such a bleak outlook on becoming a 2Lt, but I consider it a great honor to serve. Regardless of chemical training or not (I'm sure you'll get to put on your chem suit eventually before retirement).

    • moocake24

cause its all about discipline and tradition. drill and ceremonies shows people how well you are able to carry yourself and do what's right when necessary. and every militaryman has marched during training for well over a thousand years. yes, it is obsolete in today's military, but it pays respect to our roots (see verse three of the USAF song).

and we dont do things like chemical training because FT is mostly about exerting massive amounts of pressure under the cadets to see how they act/ react. dont look at it in such a bad way, its there to show both the USAF and you how you perform under pressure, and to see if you're worthy to wear the prop and wings

    • moocake24

how is that not debatable? Thats cool that one earned the MoH, and I greatly respect that, but does that directly involve leadership? Last I checked the responsibility of AF Officers is to lead, and that's a straight up matter of perspective. THAT, my friend, is non-debatable.

And I pointed out the FT thing because thats a thing that cadets are graded on and reflects how they will act in Active Duty situations
