      Dissent

So, I haven't posted a journal, or... well... anything, lately, so I figure it's time to get back into it.

For starters, I'm officially announcing the fact that I've launched a Podcast, and I feel comfortable saying that it's actually going quite well. If you have any interest in listening to a group of people sit around and discuss the same things you might have an interest in (Yeah, I know what you're interested in. We're all on Rooster Teeth, right?), then I feel I can recommend listening to it without feeling all "Self-Promotey". You can find it here, and it will be coming to iTunes as soon as I figure out what sort of archaic ritual I need to do to get a feed to work with them.

On another front, I've got a YouTube with a few videos uploaded. I have absolutely no schedule for that, and little in the way of a plan, but if you like watching someone slowly give up on life while playing a video game, you can check it out here.

I'm also very happy to announce my affiliation with The Angels, a fantastic group of people who are much harder working and far better at this than I am. I hope to be contributing to their fantastic team more in the future.

And finally, in my personal life? I'm moving to god-damned Idaho. I know I've been saying for months that I'm moving to Austin, but now I'm not. Why? I don't fucking know, I just am so shut up.

Jokes aside, I'm at an odd point in my life, and those of you who follow @LoZelda will have some idea of what I mean, as several of her recent journals have touched on some feelings of being lost that resonate quite well with me.

God, lazy, right? I'm using other people's journals to explain myself. What a douche.

Edit: How could I forget?! I was also recently on TFT Talks, to discuss Halo with them, and I have every hope of getting to show up a few more times in the future. So shoutout to them. And not to my shit memory. Fuck my shit memory.

I took it upon myself to do a thing. So, since this group is about making friends, this topic is about introducing yourself.

I just said goodbye to my first and best friend.

We first got Boanne when I was 9 years old. I didn't really have any friends at the time, so I bonded pretty quickly with this little brown, troublesome mutt. I don't know how many hours I spent chasing her around the neighborhood after she'd slip through the fence. She would always make a game out of it. Staying just out of reach, but making sure to stay close enough that I could still see her.

She was with me through the worst and best moments of my life, providing comfort in the lowest bouts of my depression, at one point staving off my suicide, and then staying by my side all the way to the best and brightest moments that followed.

I guess it was time. No, I know it was. Doesn't make it any easier.

I guess I just couldn't quite catch in the end, could I? I'm going to miss you.

I wasn't sure whether this fit better in The Basement or Politics and Current Events (or maybe somewhere else entirely) so, mods, feel free to prune as you feel necessary, I won't mind.

I was just wondering how many other RT'ers have the hobby of prepping. Personally, it's one of my favorite time/cash sinks next to video games, and I always love a rousing discussion of supplies and strategies. Whether it's long term "The shit has hit the fan" preparation, or short term "I am stuck in Environment X and this is what I'd do to get out of it" hypotheticals, let's hear 'em.

Anybody else out there hate the idea of being stuck in a situation and not being prepared?

So, I've just gotten back from seeing the film, "Fury".

I must, in every way I can, recommend this film. Brad Pitt is on his usual, now expected, fantastic form. Shia LaBeouf might have bribed his way back into Hollywood. All of the cast performed fantastically.

More specifically, it did something I've never quite seen in a war film. It delivered that tight, intense, violent feeling of brotherhood in a war zone in the most accurate way I've ever seen. The brutal trial by fire that every soldier must face, the weary exhaustion that comes from months of killing and dying, and the absolute, complicit trust of those who have sat beside you through it all... This movie delivered on it.

So go see it. Take it in. Maybe my experience doesn't match those of others who have served, but in my mind it captured something rarely represented on film. It isn't peaceful, it isn't kind, but it's true. And to me that is important.

You get up to start your day, and suddenly you notice there's just fewer people out and about than you usually see? Like... a lot fewer? And then suddenly you start questioning what day of the week it is and whether it's a holiday and what if it's daylight savings time and is there some sort of plague I didn't hear about and what the fuck is going on?

And then you get to work and everyone is there, and you just never get an explanation, but you get a bomb ass parking spot thanks to the empty lot.

      Yeah. Those days are weird.

Sometimes I sit and think "I could make funny videos! I could make all sorts of funny content!". Then I sit at home, get drunk, and play video games, instead. This is a real struggle folks. How do you turn "I'm a funny person" into a legitimate venture?. Gonna have to figure this out.

Well, it's official. I am now more excited for Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor than I feel comfortable. The reviews hit tonight, and they so far seem to be universally top scale, and they all confirm that the studio seems to deliver on their vast promises.

This seemed like the game I always wanted, and it looks like they delivered.

And I have work the day it comes out.

      -cough, cough-

      Oh no I'm getting sick.

    • My First Upload, Youtube, and Why I Hate Google.

      Dissent

So, I have now officially uploaded my first youtube video(Little shameless self promotion), and I would like to take a moment to say that the whole "Youtube Channel/Google Account" system is fucking horrible. Google gives you the ability to have both a youtube channel and a personal account channel under the same login, but the actual account services are constantly confused by which one of the two should be the active account.

I had to go through and submit images and the video several times while google tried (miserably) to figure out where I actually wanted it. Frustrating.
