You know what I'm talking about, that game you absolutely loved, but for some reason you've never met anyone who's ever even heard of it.

For me, it has to be this:

      Phantom_Crash.jpg

The game was great. Competition style "Battle teirs" of skill level, complete customization of your mech, and instead of being about smashing around into things as a giant robot, it was actually a very fast paced combat that rewarded skill and stealth. It was more about being able to drop in behind someone and engage them before they figured out where you were at.

Plus customizable robots, who doesn't love that?

What were your favorite hidden gems?

So, I'm going back to school for the first time in 6 years today. Tad nervous, but more worried that being a 23 year old in a college environment is just going to drive me insane. I'm a grumpy person. A bunch of 18 year olds out "experiencing the world" is going to get on my nerves, I think. Luckily I have a buddy with me in one of my 3 classes.

But, overall, I'm excited. I've been off out in the world doing other things for a while, and it's nice to be doing something that actually feels like it's working towards an endstate, a goal of some kind. Plus, I'm interested in all the classes I'm taking, so it can't be all bad, right?

      ...right?

It's not. Honest. I just want to share that beer and ice cream are a fantastic combiniation. I'm sharing that with you all. Because I care.

I've been kicking around an idea for a while now, and I'm ready to start moving forward with it.

The idea is generally to create a podcast that discusses Video Games, Movies, Television, and Current Events in Technology from a Consumer perspective. As much as I love the RT crew and everything they do, they have a slightly different perspective as content creators and industry insiders. I would like to develop a podcast that is (Title Drop) By Fans For Fans.

The thing is, I need contributors! I need people who are willing to take an hour or so out of their week to sit down and talk about the things they love! People who are passionate, well spoken, and keep up to date with newer developments and recent information, to chat with in a lighthearted, humorous setting.

This is a bit of a long term project as I believe in doing something right the first time. So, I want to make sure that I am finding individuals who all mesh well together, have good chemistry, and get along well enough to carry an hour of discussion on their personality alone.

I'm currently gearing up to accept the task of doing all the editing and handling the technical side of the project, but if anyone with more (than my very limited) experience is willing to step up to the plate, that would also be fantastic.

I thought the Sponsor forums would be a good place to start looking, because this is a place full of people who are passionate enough to pay money for the things they enjoy. As time goes on, I will widen my search as needed, but for now, I need your help to make this dream a reality!

Edit: I have created a group here. For the sake of organization, I'd appreciate it if everyone interested went ahead and joined it.

(Before I dive into the bulk of my topic here, yes I am aware I am currently a ghost. My actual username is @Dissent. Supposedly my username issue is being worked on. I have not recently seen anyone else with this same issue of mine, so it's safe to assume, in this thread, anyone without a name is probably me. Anyways...)

Since the Xbox One and PS4 have been released, a lot of people have claimed they're bringing "A true next gen experience" to gaming. But what does that mean, really?

I think, overall, most of all, what "Next Gen" is, is different to each person. There's a lot of ways developers can take advantage of newer, more powerful software, and so in the end, it really falls to the user to decide what "Next Gen" means to them.

What does it mean to me? Well, graphics have, without debate, reached an impressive level of fidelity. Even before moving to "Next Gen", they were doing things with pre-rendered animation that was near photo-realism. In my mind, a true next gen experience moves beyond just making something look nice, and introduces newer, more innovative mechanics. In my opinion, this generation of gaming will be defined not by impressive graphic capabilities, but in the underlying, computative capabilities of games. Things like the impressive number of zombies on display in Dead Rising 3, and the larger sized Battlefield 4 multiplayer games (something a bit of an old hat for PC gamers) will really be where this "Next Generation" of console games shine.

I think the best example, in my mind, of this potential, is the game "Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor". The developers of that game sat down and said "What can we improve that no one else has. And instead of graphics, or a larger map (really just a memory requirement), they went with the enemy NPC's. They tried to create an expansive, procedural, unique experience utilizing the enemies in their game. Now, whether or not they actually manage to deliver on their lofty promises... that remains to be seen. But I'm watching closely.

So what is Next Gen to me? That's it. Not making the game look better, but play better.

It has been a long few years, for me. At no point in my life have I ever felt a very solid sense of direction in my life. I consider myself to be an intelligent, capable individual. Honestly, I kind of feel like I could accomplish anything I want. My problem is a lack of want.

So as I sit here and reflect on the things I've done and the places I've been, I realize I'm at deciding moment in my life. I need to choose a direction, whatever it may be. This period I'm in right now, however long it may end up being, is the end of everything I have done, and the beginning of everything I will do.

So I'm making a New Years resolution. It's about 4 months early, but oh well. I'm leaving at the end of the year. I'm going to take everything I own, throw it in my truck, and I'm leaving home. I need to go out and do something for myself, create my own life, and forge my own path. Do I know where it will lead me? No, not at all. Do I know what I'm doing? Only sort of. But I've spent my whole life up to this point waiting for it to start. It's time I got the show on the road.

So, here's the countdown, California. You get 4 more months of my life. And then I'm not looking back.

So, looks like this holiday season is going to be a big one for new releases.

What big upcoming game are you guys looking forward to the most?

Me personally, I'd say it's a toss up between Destiny, LoTR Shadow of Mordor, and Evolve. All three of those games look really interesting to me, and seem to be introducing some awesome stuff to the industry. What about you guys?

So, I'm ashamed to admit, due to a series of events I will continue to use as an excuse, I've never really watched Red Vs. Blue beyond catching an episode here and there.

I'm finally making it up by watching the series here on the site, but right now (while I am thoroughly enjoying it), I find myself looking forward to reaching the point that the guys finally get ahold of a real sound studio/microphone set-up. These voices are so hard to hear.

Side-Note: High West whiskey is my booze of the week. Shit's fucking awesome.

So, tried out the Destiny Beta last night. God damn, if that isn't the most fun I've had playing a video game in years. Anyone else in on it? I'd love some fireteam buddies.
