So, I decided to finally try out the MMORPG Maple Story, just for kicks and grins. I downloaded it today and played it a while.

What I found so interesting (and humorous) was that the first two guys that I stopped to exchange a few words with, the first one kept insisting, "i like you." Over and over, as if he felt very strongly that he was attracted to me personally, and I didn't hear him the first time. The second one, shortly after we started talking, asked if I could be his GF. Now, there's no telling how old these guys are, but I'm going to shoot in the dark and guess somewhere around the age of 14. What's with these kiddos? The only thing they know about me is that my character is a female thief named Caurie (which isn't even related to my real name, on a side note). There was only one other guy that I talked to who hasn't tried hitting on me yet.

I expected this sort of thing, to an extent. But I don't know. I just found the whole thing rather amusing. Let's see how tomorrow fares.

    • After Thoughts

After the first time I watched Chapter 19 of Recon, my mouth was open and I was speechless. (That last line still gives me chills.) After a moment of speechlessness, the first thing I could think to say was, "HOLY CRAP."

Now that I've had a night to sleep on it, I'm hoping I can recollect my thoughts a bit.

First of all, the opening scene did seem odd to me. I'm pretty sure they all new what the plan was, since they obviously new that Church's body was an empty shell when it fell out of Caboose's jeep. It may have been staged because they thought someone (The Director? The Counselor?) could overhear them.

I also think that the scene where Church's body falls out of the jeep is important. My first impression was that it was just there to show that the BG Crew knew what was going on. This makes sense. But I think that when it shows Church's body and Caboose looking back at it, it seems more dramatic than that. More drawn out that it needs to be if it didn't mean anything other than the fact that they were aware of Church being with Wash. Maybe they needed his body for something specific later (for whatever Caboose was doing in the end?) Maybe Church is just gone (I won't believe it!), and it was dramatic for that reason. I don't know.

I still don't know enough about the Meta. I don't think he was working with the Director. The Director seems to be opposed to the Meta at the start of the encounter. When the Director says to him, "You will not be leaving this time," I feel like there's a certain level of animosity. It was only after the Director discovers that Wash is a threat to him that he tells the Meta to take out Wash. The Meta seems quick to comply, though, for not working with him. Although... maybe the Meta just wanted to find the Alpha from the Director, and after the Counselor tells the Meta he needs to earn their trust before meeting the Alpha, then the Meta is willing to take out Wash for them. It also seems obvious that the Meta's motivation was to obtain the Alpha. (Put it together? Revive it? Destroy it? Use the Alpha for his purposes? Maybe that motivation was driven purely by the AIs in his head, and he had little control over it.) However, if that was his only motivation, why go to all the trouble he did to not only obtain AIs from agents, but also their equipment abilities? Sure, they could help him gather the AIs with less difficulty. But when he was faced with the choice to either get Wash's equipment or go for Delta, why would he choose something that would increase the chance of getting AIs instead of actually getting an AI? I think there's still more to him than we know.

When Church appears as the Alpha, there is speculation that Tex is one of the AIs shown with the Meta. Also that the whispering voice that says "It's him," is Tex. I have my doubts. I could hear it as Tex, but I could just as easily hear it as some random AI.

When the EMP goes off ("EMP?! You have got to be f****** j-"), what happens to Wash, the Meta, Church, and the rest of the AIs? I don't know about Wash. I would much rather him live, though it's always a possibility that he didn't (be it from the EMP in some form, or from his own wounds from the Meta). I have a theory on the Meta, either. I don't think I know enough about him. As for Church, a lot of people believe that the EMP wiped him out along with the AIs. While I don't know what happened to the other AIs (Did they join up with the Alpha? And if they did, did they all survive? Are they all gone?), I refuse to believe that it eliminated Church. I am in denial about that until proven otherwise, and if the EMP did take him out, RT better have a dang good way to "revive" him.

How did he survive the fall? It's possible that he jumped out of the jeep, the updraft of a grav lift could have helped... I'm sure there's a number of explanations. What was Caboose doing at the end? As popular speculation goes, he may be trying to revive Church or Tex by using Epsilon. How that might happen, I don't know. Why is he doing... whatever he's doing? Maybe it was part of Wash's plan, maybe an AI (maybe Church) left a memory in his head to tell him what to do, maybe Caboose just dearly wants to bring his best friend Church back. At this point, nobody really knows. Who's body is that with Caboose? Most people think it's Tex's. When I first watched, I had the impression that it was Church's. Maybe it's Church's cobalt body in the shadows, maybe it's Tex's body tinted with blue light, from the blue base. I agree that it being Tex's body is a good possibility, but I won't dismiss the possibility that it's Church's body. That was my first impression, and I still believe it might be true.

As for Tex, we're pretty sure that the person the Director was talking about in the epilogue, who he lost early in his life and was very dear to him, was Allison. In some way, she was his significant other. Maybe girlfriend, maybe wife. But they were lovers. How he lost her is unclear, except that I think it was in some form of combat. He has questioned for a long time, "Could I have saved her?" In a journal entry by Patawan, he brings up the point that maybe that was part of the Church/Tex/AI stuff that was going on - maybe it was part of some experiment to see if he actually could have saved her (himself now being Church, saving Tex). Interesting theory, and one worth noting, in my opinion. And is Tex a smart AI as well, completely separate from Church? I think this is likely, and that she may have been created by the Director based on his own memories of her. Also, which memories Church has of himself and Tex are his own memories, and which ones are the Director's? I don't know know enough about the Director's/Allison's past, and I hope we find out more soon.

    • Reconstruction Finale

I just have to say, the final chapter was AMAZING.

Last night when 9pm (10pm CST) was coming around, a "few hours" delay was announced. That was fine with me, and I stayed online. I waited... and waited... and continued waiting... I stayed online until about 5:40am, then finally gave in and went to sleep. Even then, I was not alleviated - all I can remember from my sleep is dreaming about being online, waiting and waiting for the final chapter. (Can someone say nerd?) After a three-hour nap, I got back online. I continued waiting patiently until about 3:50pm, as I had marching band practice from 4-6. When I came back, I discovered that the new chapter had been uploaded half an hour after I left. Of all the rotten luck! After watching that thing, though... I don't even care. It was all 100% worth it.

      It. Was. Epic.
I was overwhelmed by it's awesomeness. I'm still recovering from it.

My deep thanks goes out to the guys at RT.
      Reconstruction was amazing.

      P.S. Freaking sweet.
