I was outta town today in another city.

While bummin' around with some buddies, we were passing by a homeless shelter, where there was a line forming of people waiting for meal time. A man was walking towards us carrying a large pizza. He stopped and gave it to a group of the homeless people, and left with a genuinely sincere smile on his face.

As we crossed paths, me and my friends gave him daps and told him how baller the act was. He shrugged and replied: "It's just pizza to me, but to them, it's a full stomach. Seems fair."

      Dat's justice, brudda.

Today I drank the punch. I'm of course speaking about the party everyone's been at for quite a while: Steam.

This is sorta weird for me. While I consider myself to still be a gamer at heart, these days my actions only allow that title casually at best. My PS3 and 360 have been reduced to mere dust collectors, and my library of games remains unchanged in the last two years. Meanwhile, the very laptop I'm using to post this journal is the same thing I have to use for PC gaming, which is far from a good thing. I bought it as a cheap replacement to the media beast I had in my college years (which I broke), and haven't anted up in the years since -- because, honestly, this thing works (ish) for what I need, and that's primarily as a connection to the internet. Something far less meaningful in an age of smart phones, tabs, TVs, and even toothbrushes. w8 wut?

It's not that I've ceased to enjoy gaming. On the contrary, it's still a very fun way to pass the time, or even find some depth and intrigue. But for me, gaming was always about the social aspect. Back in my day (ha, listen to me), if you wanted to play with friends, they had to come over or you had to go there -- at least for console gamers, which I very much was. I remember when Xbox Live was still in development stages, and shows like Extended Play (later X-Play and then whatever) would have specials showing what the future of console gaming could be like: playing with strangers hundreds, thousands of miles away from the leisure of your couch.

Today that seems like such a commonplace thing. Now, if games don't support online functionality, it's by and by considered a detriment to most. The most successful games today, those major franchises, grant that level of shallow social interaction. I use that word, "shallow", because as many studies have indicated, most online friendships are surface-level. While they have the potential to develop further, most won't, not without severe effort on both parts. There are, simply put, too many otherwise complicated avenues reduced to shortcuts taken in how we communicate and bond with one another.

Call me old-fashioned, but as me and my friends all grew older and interests changed along with mounting responsibilities and priorities, we gamed less and less together. There was no more real need or desire to just get together and play 4-player Xbox. And since I had no interest in gaming with random people on the 'net, gaming itself, over time, began to take much more of a backseat to my life. Until it came this point where I look at both my consoles in their weeping, dust-covered state, and my laptop with its decrepit specs, and am hardly even phased. It's almost like reflecting on an old relationship: the times were good, but you've moved on.

Now I'm not saying online gaming is some sort of abomination. On the contrary, the internet has opened up infinitely more possibilities than it has adversely mutated how we function. Not just for gaming. The internet, all the science behind it, really has to go down as one of the biggest milestone "inventions" of all time, among the likes of the printing press and the wheel.

In fact, it's only because of the internet that I still do game today. When I do decide to frag it up, it's with my in-real-life (IRL, as the lingo goes) bros. And through them, I have met some other cool people that they have had gaming experiences with, many of which have become more IRL buddies. Or tying it into my early analogy, showing up to a house party when you had the hook-up from one or two friends, meeting some bomb-ass ragers, and cultivating the seeds of friendship from the experience.

So cheers, I guess. I'm kickin' in the door with a "WUSSUP, FUCKERS!?", arms wide with a fifth in each hand. You know, just in case this keg is tapped out.

PS: If anyone has Steam and would like to add me, shoot me a personal message.

      Please let me sleep.

I've been drinking you for ten hours, and I can already feel the heartburn coming on. I can't imagine what the hangover will be like.

It'd also be nice if I can wake up at a reasonable hour without having the spins.

I know it's a long-shot, but ya can't blame a guy for being hopeful. Or maybe you can, 'cause--

Oh, shit. I still have a cup left and some of the second bottle.

Okay, you've convinced me. But mark my words! If you fuck me up, I'mma fuck you up! Non serviam! Or whatever Latin is applicable.

      Fuck you kindly,

      Zach

PS: AND YOU . . . SHOOK ME ALLLLLL NIIIIIIGHT LOOONGGG!

Got me feelin' like Jim Jones!

Taking a trip outta town tonight to visit a good buddy on his university's campus. Gonna get sufficiently tore up pre-gaming before we hit up a couple house parties and slay. But the real joy here is in seeing this bro of mine whom I haven't kicked it with for a few months.

If ya can't tell how jacked I am, it's because my writing blows more bawlz than a pr0nstar. 'Cause I live for the nights I can't remember, doing things I won't regret with the people I'll never forget.

      Well wishes, y'all. Stay frosty.

To those who have someone special to enjoy it with, I hope you have a good one. For the rest of us that don't, try not to sweat it. Either way, I hope y'all have a good Friday 14th, February.

      Well wishes.

I have no doubt. Last time my sponsorship was renewed, I had an issue with it dropping my sponsorship status due to an issue on RTs end. Adam had me fixed up within an hour of my messaging him.

It took less than a half-hour for me to receive a confirmation e-mail informing me that my user name had been changed. I'm sure you'll get just as good of service! :-3

Even so, I've been looking to change my username for a while now, but I never thought to message Adam about it. He's helped me before, hopefully he can help me out again.

Yeah it is! I have had three or four people on my friends list change their names, but I never could figure out how they did it. Nicely done sir!

A friend, @Zapti, messaged me to let me know that the username "Dozey" had only been active once. He knew that was my nickname, and suggested I send a message to Adam to put in a request for a change. It worked.

        Pretty cool, right?

There are several ways to play music or add stuff to your profile.

First, go here to download the Scrobbler. Once you download that and set it to record songs from whatever media player you use on your computer. When you have that set up, it will automatically scrobble (their term) the songs you play and they will show up in your profile page.

Another way to listen to music is to use the last.fm radio. To which, you can access it various ways but if there's a certain artist you have in mind, you can search for that artists and play that artists radio from that artist's main page. The radio will play songs similar to that artist, kind of like the way pandora does.

There might be other ways to listen to music on there but they recently remodeled the sight a tad bit and I'm still working out the differences. But I'm still addicted to the site anyway.

Well, I know from using Playlist.com that it's not very good at actually helping the user find new music. It's more like you can find songs and add them to your personal playlist(s). I use it for creating different themed playlists, such as one for parties and another for easy listening. The only way I've actually "found" new music on Playlist.com is when they have "Featured Playlists" from other people, and I end up giving it a listen.

I'm trying out LastFM.com right now, and so far I'm pretty confused. How do I actually get music to play? So far all I've done is entered six (I didn't feel like going on and on) of my favorite artists. After that, I'm completely lost as how to proceed. Seems like a pretty swank site, though, at first glance.

    • Tetrameth

Well, it might've been me. I talk about it often enough.

Playlist.com looks to be similar to last.fm in some ways but from a glance, I like last.fm better. They seem to do about the same thing; which would be discovering new music and such.

    • Dozey

Not really. I have heard of it, though. In fact, I created an account for it just last week at the recommendation of someone on the "What are you currently listening to V3.0" thread. Was it you? Anyway, I totally forgot that I had made it and to actually give it a try out until you just mentioned it. Why do you ask?

Oh! In case you were curious, I use playlist.com, AOL Internet Radio, Sirius / XM Satellite Radio, and Frostwire / iTunes for most of my music fixes. I tend to go back and forth, depending on what I'm looking for -- such as something more hands-off with Satellite Radio, or more customizable like playlist.com.

    • Tetrameth

I don't suppose you use last.fm at all? Just curious.
