    • For Monty

Even though I never had the chance to meet Monty, He was a great inspiration for me and I wanted to share that. Sorry it's so long, but I felt like I needed to talk about this, thanks for reading if anyone does end up reading this.

I've been a fan of RoosterTeeth for close to 6 years now, but I became a die hard fan when I discovered their podcast. But when I think back, I was actually a fan of Monty first, because my brother had shown me this bad ass video of Master Chief and Samus fighting. I thought it was so cool that characters from two different games I knew were interacting, and in the most bad ass way possible. At the time i thought it had something to do with the next game coming out, not knowing that it was a fans own creation, I was probably 10 at the time. I never forgot that video though. I would frequently tell my friends about it and demand that they look it up the next time they could. A few years later I'm listening to a podcast where they introduce the employee that would be working on RvB, and I recognized the name right away and couldn't wait to see what the creator of one of my favorite videos would do for my favorite company.

One thing I would always do to entertain myself on boring car rides would be to imagine stories that went along with the music I was listening to. I listened to a lot of movie soundtracks, so I would create characters that would interact with the characters of the movie, but now my character was the protagonist. They were just silly imaginations of a 12 year old, and when I started getting older I kind of smothered my imagination, thinking that was just what you did when you grew up. RoosterTeeth changed that after about a year of really being a fan and learning more about writing, they re invigorated the childish imagination, but now I was taking them more seriously and actually enjoyed thinking of the crazy adventures just to fend off boredom.

Then one day RWBY was announced, and listening to Monty talk about how these were ideas he's had for so long and how he came up with the landscape from a stained napkin made me think, "Hey, I could do that." So I started building a world. I wrote down some brief notes here and there, but then I stated getting more busy with school and forgot about them. Then I started writing down notes again when I took a literature class, and started I considering the idea around in my head of maybe one day writing a book about this world. I took the notes a little more seriously, but the book was a wild fantasy. I only ever wrote a short story for the literature class and two pages of notes, and then put them aside figuring that it wasn't worth it to try.

But now thinking back I realize that he has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life. His work ethic, the way he loved what he created, and loved others who created things they loved has motivated me to pursue the things I'm passionate about, like helping people.

So now in honor of him, I am going to try my damned hardest to write a book, and get it published. I don't care if I am the only one on the planet that will love it, or of it takes 20 years, I'm going to write something that I'm going to love, and I'm doing it in honor of him.

Thank you Monty for sharing you ideas with this world and inspiring me. Rest in peace.

      Keep moving forward.

So three months ago I made a new account and became a sponsor, so I could get more involved with the community. Well life happened and I haven't done a god job of involving myself with this awesome community, so I guess this is take two. Well here goes... ACTION! (yeah that's cheesy and lame but I'm fine with it)

Thank you! I always felt like this community was strong even though I was a "lurker", but now I am seeing it first hand with all this helpful response just by making one post and not advertising it. I feel really welcome here!
