      The text, as posted on Gov. Palin's official website (here), uses 2,549 words and 18 exclamation points. Lincoln freed the slaves with 719 words and nary an exclamation; Mr. Jefferson declared our independence in 1,322 words and, again, no exclamation points. Nixon resigned the presidency in 1,796 words -- still no exclamation points.

      This Palin thing baffles me. Either there's more to it that she's not saying, or she really is retarded. Resigning this early to avoid "politics as usual"? Yeah, that's exactly the kind of human being I want as president.

      I do have two complaints about the current Palin situation, though: (1) Just because she resigned doesn't mean she'll go away. I'm sure she'll still be a public figure and we'll definitely see her again in 2012. (2) It's distracting from the political story I like best, and that's the great governor of my own state, Mark Sanford. I've hated the guy for years, and we finally get something solid on him that everyone can agree is bad, then Michael Jackson dies and takes away focus. Sanford decides to admit more later in the week, and now Palin. What the hell?

      I just heard a joke.

      Mark Sanford didn't actually lie to his staff about where he'd be when he disappeared. He told them flat out, "I'm going after some Argentinian tail," but they heard "Appalachian trail."


      Alright, rambling over, for now. Happy fourth of July. Not a holiday I particularly care about (since actual combat had already started between the colonies and Great Britain the year before, making the declaration itself a formality), but if it's your thing, live it up.

      What are friends for? They're for recording you singing karaoke then posting the videos on YouTube. Now, I was once asked to describe my singing style. I answered, "I can't sing." That is not a lie. So these songs have been fitted to my style of being unable to sing. Enjoy.

      1. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler
      This is my usual song. Its performance is clearly the most polished, but I still think it's fun. Obvious inspiration from The Dan Band. I should probably mention that this is probably NSFW because of the language.

      2. "All the Young Dudes" by Mott the Hoople
      First time doing this one. I love the song. It's amazing. What I wasn't ready for, however, was the lead vocals not going with the "All the young dudes / carry the news" refrain. He's shouting between the actual vocals. So that threw me off, but I think I recovered alright. There was a great bit at the end that's not in the video where the lyrics just get insanely sexual and my friends are losing it hearing me perform. I also want to say that I listen to the David Bowie version of this way more (since he wrote it, sold it to Mott the Hoople, then decided years later to record it himself), and the differences that I forgot about are kind of apparent.

      3. "Big Balls" by AC/DC
      I heard this on the radio and realized I could totally pull it off. I think I did.

      On one hand, we have the Wii with interactive controls, split-screen multiplayer, cartoon-like graphics, and a cheaper price-tag.

      On the other, we have more realistic graphics and slightly more positive critic reviews (depending on the publication, ranging from just a tiny bit better to a good bit better).

      Not convinced either way, yet. Thoughts?

      well i felt only depp could capture fools complexity and ledger can be sweet or manic, which is perfect for brix.

      i shoose ellen page for ren, because she is super cute and could pull off the puppy dog eyes, while she pulls out the concealed knife to cut your balls off. i can't really say anything about calis as doom, other than when we were casting this film we were looking for interesitng actors and his schedule was clear.

      i chose shai for rhe simple fact that's he's in everything.

      I've had The Stand for about a year and still haven't read it. I've read like 9 Stephen King books and loved all of them, but that one I haven't read yet. I might read it when I'm done reading American Gods, or I may go with a shorter book like Lord of the Flies, I'm not sure which one I'll read next.
