...That I noticed the "Hide This Post" option on the "My Homepage" tab. Now I only need to ignore RT's posts once instead of every time I log in.

I won't vote for someone I don't support, even if they're running unopposed. Consequently, I made irresponsible use of the Write-In option.

Watched the documentary The People vs. George Lucas last week. Pretty decent doc. Inspired me to buy these beauties for $5 on Ebay.

      632091536.jpg

Trucked through A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back last night after a busy day of finding an apartment; planning on hitting Return of the Jedi today.

A point made in the documentary rang true for me as I was rewatching the pre-Special Edition movies. People say, "George Lucas ruined my childhood" in regard to the prequels, Indy 4, and the constant fucking with the OT. But you know what? Whatever. Yeah, that stuff's all shit (except Revenge of the Sith.... shitty dialogue aside, I really liked that movie), but so what? That doesn't take away from me enjoyment of these VHS tapes at all. Nothing Hayden Christensen did undermines how totally badass Darth Vader was during ESB. Why? Because I can ignore it. I can watch the pre-SE OT and love it just as much as when I was a kid. Just like I don't let the Matrix sequels or Pirates of the Caribbean sequels take away from me enjoyment of the first films, I'm not going to let Lucas's own problems with his movies change how much I do enjoy them.

To give something or someone the power to "ruin my childhood" simply means that I can't decide for myself what to watch and enjoy. So George Lucas, do what you want. Fuck away at your old films. It doesn't matter to me in the end, because those VHS tapes (and the digitizing of them that is about to happen) are all I need.

Been watching Batman TAS a lot lately. It got me thinking about something, and I would like your input on the matter.

(if you follow me and can't see the poll, remember this is Ben's retarded news feed setup and you have to actually click the journal title to see it)

It hits it's stride after the first few episodes, I'm thinking that's when it was officially picked up for a full season, so they started introducing more interesting storylines. Seriously, it goes from, *Saving the library from a fire* to *Almost being invaded by mercenaries* in the matter of 3 or 4 episodes.

LOL. Yeah six degreen of denigration. Well I appreciate the back and forth. Think we resolved anything here?

    • quikthnkr

I respectfully disagree. The title of the post was "Can you find it?"

It was a challenge to solve a mystery by following the link. It's value for inspiring discourse is subjective and rules are rarely subjective. Even unspoken ones. That's why they are called rules.

Also, Rooster Teeth is an online community that survives by servicing the users with content and a home on the web in hopes of selling them real world items. It's the beginning of a whole new business model and Burnie and crew are well aware of that.

The people who use this site are thier customers and Erok as a mod is a representative of the company in a sense (albeit unpaid and often unappreciated). Not many businesses tolerate their employees insulting thier customers. There's a bar in Boston I've been to called "Dicks" where the waiters are supposed to insult everyone but that isn't a generally accepted theme here (at least not to my knowledge).

I realize that the web is still the wild west and that these sort of business models are new and in flux but eventually folks who run these sorts of sites will realize that having assholes who insult thier users on staff isn't to their benefit. No matter how stupid or wrong the user might be.

I long for that day. The end to the day of the power monger mod and their overwhelming desire to flex and preen over their little dukedoms.

One thing I always tried to keep in mind when I was a mod was that the people here are here because they want to spend thier leisure time here and enjoy the content. My goal was to increase the user base by increasing the enjoyment a user got from their experience here.

It's all about respect man. It's a two way street and if you don't give it you don't get it.

Here's a guy, has no idea who I am, no idea what I know about the forums. He's sees me do something that to his mind seems wrong and he handles it by insulting me and locking the thread.

I even tried talking to the guy reasonably and respectfully. I told him who I was, what and who I knew at the site and asked if he could please tell me what the problem was. He came back with more attitude. Telling me, and I quote "I have no idea who any of those people are or what Grifball is, nor do I care."

There's just no call to be such a cock to people.

Now as for you being his friend....

None of this stuff was public. With the exception of the main post itself I spoke to him only by private message. My journal is public but unless you watch me I doubt you would know that I posted one. You are on his friends list.

Granted I made some assumptions here but no great leaps of faith. Educated guesses involving circumstantial evidence if you will.

If you knew about my journal at all you must have been told about it by him. So either you are friends or he created some sweet little friends only journal to cry about the mean man who gave him a hard time and how unfair the inequities of life are.

So maybe I was wrong. Maybe you are a huge Grifball fan and have been awaiting the return of the old Commissioner? If so I apologize for my incorrect assumptions.

    • quikthnkr

Show me where it says in ToS or in that forum boards rules that the "First Post" must be substantial enough to inspire discussion (and by the way, Discourse means communication of thought by words; talk; conversation: earnest and intelligent discourse). It doesn't. I know. I used to be a site Mod here when I was Grifball Commissioner and I made myself familiar with the rules.

What ErokDragun did was assume that the post was useless and had nothing to do with comics. And he also chose to insult me in the process.

What I was hoping with that post was that people would follow the link; find the hidden link to the MySpace account and come back to discuss the possible implications in that thread.

The fact that the link had the name "comics" in it should have been enough to show it was relevant to the forum board. But if he was unsure what it's relationship was or felt it was in the wrong place he could have sent me a message and asked me questions. I would have answered and I would have appreciated a mod who takes the time to actually manage his forum board. I would have settled for him locking it and then sending me an explanation as to why it was locked.

But he didn't do any of that. He just locked it and called me stupid.

Now as to what is within his power. Burnie et al give the mods here a great deal of latitude in dealing with the user base. So there is no question that what he did was within his power. I would never posit that this action was somehow beyond the scope of what he can do. I know he can do it.

That doesn't make it the best thing for the site, the best way to manage the user base or the best way to treat me. Say what you want. This mod handled this small situation badly and if he handled this one badly he probably handles others badly (now look who's assuming lol). In short though, if no one calls him on it and no one complains when he does stuff like this the site will never improve and he will go on thinking that it's ok to treat the user base like that.

You have to speak up if want change. Just sitting there and taking it doesn't do anyone any good.

Oh, and I deleted your comment. Because that is within my power and he has made it clear he doesn't wish to discuss it anymore. So his friends shouldn't bother coming to his rescue.
