      This is a big one....

      Distance: 4.1 Km, *uninterrupted* smiley0.gif

Time: 25-30 minutes, approx. I'm trying to jog at a steady pace and increase it with time. It's better that way.

Weight, after running and shower: 76 Kg (yes, I'm controlling my weight progress now too)

Also, um..... yeah, ok. I have nothing interesting to say this time. smiley4.gif

      Did it again. smiley0.gif

Distance: 3.7-ish Km (had to slow down to a walk twice this time.... no energy. Not enough sleep or something, lol)

Time: 20-25 minutes, approx. (same as above)

The more I do this stuff, the more I want to keep going. smiley0.gif

Next day is scheduled to be saturday, unless some shitty university work gets in the way. The bastards.

I've been out of the shower for a while now, perusing some messages and what not here on rvb and messenger. Methinks it's time for beddy-byes now though... so I'll talk to you all later.

Went running again today. Just got out of the shower, and I feel awesome. smiley0.gif

Distance: 4.0 Km (almost nonstop this time, only took one water break ... last week I slowed to a walk 3 times)
Time: 20 minutes. (I didn't have a watch, but from the time I left my house till the time I got back it was about 30 minutes, which makes me guess running time was about the same as last week.)

This is awesome. Last week I only went running once because of my bad ankle, and then I had some work to do. This week my goal is three days. For the remaining two I'm aiming for wednesday or thursday, and saturday.

Also, check this out. Made me cream my pants. Twice. smiley0.gif

I think Eric put it best when he called it nerdgasm XD

Well, I'm off. Talk to you all soon. And Laura, hope your situation gets better soon too.... don't you think this excuses you from your workout though! smiley12.gifsmiley12.gifsmiley12.gif

    • Alright, fiiiiiine

      DungeonFreak

It seems I now have been tagged, so I might as well get it over with. Here ya go, ten eleven things you may or may not have known about me (that's right, I'm doing 11, just because I'm that special smiley0.gif ):

      11. I was born here in Lima, Peru. I moved to Canada with my family when I was 8. That's when I started to learn english, and as a result ended up speaking it accent-less. I moved back here in '98, when I was 18 (almost 19 actually).

      10. I didn't realize I was this much into film and video (enough to make a carreer out of it) until I was in grade 11, when I helped some friends out with a video project for class... even though the signs were there from the beginning. There is actually a video my parents took when we were on a trip when I was 2 or 3, and you can actually hear me in the background asking to use the camera. I swear. There is also a picture of my sister's first communion and I'm holding the camera. I was the official cameraman, in charge of taping everything. When I was done shooting the event and stuff back at the house, I started playing with the camera. At one point I pretended the camera was the point of view of a plane crashing into the tree in our yard, and made everyone sick with all the camera shakes and close-ups. Later on that day, I gave it my first shot at stop-motion animation, with some toy cars, popsicle sticks, and some play-doh. It came out crappy though, because I could only shoot for a few seconds, instead of a few frames. Looked like crap. The idea was there though. smiley0.gif

      9. I used to play guitar and tennis, both of which I loved and miss dearly.

      8. One day I will rule the world film industry. So befriend me now, before it's too late and all I do is peg you as a phoney trying to hitch a ride on a bandwagon. smiley0.gif

      7. I really, really like music. If I'm listening to the radio and a song I really like comes on, I'll turn the volume way up and really enjoy the moment, especially if I'm in the car. If I'm in the shower, and during a really good song someone comes in to say something, and instead of hitting "pause" they hit "stop", I get really annoyed. I mean, come on. I lose the place on the CD! smiley4.gif

      6. I have, at some point or other in my life, entertained the thought of suicide. No, I will not tell you why. No, I don't plan on ever carrying it out. Stop worrying.

      5. I'm a virgin. You read right. Laugh all you want. I couldn't care less. I simply haven't been in love, and I plan on being in love when it finally happens. (Disclaimer: That does not mean that I haven't done anything at all with women before... come on people. Let's be real.)

      4. No smoking in my car. No exceptions. Sorry, but letting you smoke in my car isn't worth feeling the stench three days later.

      3. This may come as a surprise, but I'm currently in therapy. Don't even bother asking me what it's for. I'm simply not going to tell you.

3b. Apparently (and this is something that came out of a therapy session), I have low self-esteem. Like, really low. Go figure. Actually, since I've realized it, it's explained a lot about me and my past.... perhaps, one of them being #5??? Who knows. I haven't been in therapy that long yet.... we'll see.

      2. I can get really, really nostalgic at times.

      1. No, Simon. I do not stuff the crotch. For the love of GOD, just drop it already, I'm not going to prove it to you!!! smiley4.gifsmiley4.gifsmiley4.gif

Now it's my turn.... *cracks knuckles*.... I tag..... Jess, Simon, Wyatt, Dan, and Eric (as my newest friend on the list, I figure I'll get to know ya a little better this way) ..... enjoy smiley0.gif

    • Help with Web Hosting

      DungeonFreak

I need help choosing a hosting service.

Instaspace offers a site with 1GB of space, unlimited transfer and unlimited email for $1.99 / month, including the domain name. It also includes a blog, photo gallery, and forum.

GoDaddy offers, for $3.59 / month (when it's for one year), 5GB of space, 250GB transfer, 500 email accounts, forums, blogging and photo galleries, plus $1.99 for the domain name.

I know Go Daddy offers more than Instaspace, but we're talking about $45 a year versus $24 a year, when I don't really need more than what Instaspace offers.

Does anyone know any other good hosting services I could check out?

      Thanks a bunch,

      - DungeonFreak

PS: I've got a lot to do around my house/life, and my watchlist has grown out of proportion once again. If I haven't gotten around to you, I will eventually. These days I can't log on very often, sowwy... and finals are in 3 weeks for me. smiley7.gif

    • Saw "House of D" today

      DungeonFreak

And I liked it very much. Touching story.

However that's not what motivated me to post this journal. What motivated me was a line Robin Williams' character says to the kid at one point:

      "Do good things."

So simple. Yet so powerful. In real life, that's really all it comes down to. If we kept this in mind more often, we could rid ourselves of many evils in our society. That's all there is to it. Do good things.

So I leave you with that to consider. In life, no matter what you do, just keep in mind.....

    • Low budget Bullet-Time method

in Forums > Low budget Bullet-Time method | Follow this topic

      DungeonFreak

I am currently working on pre-production for a spoof which includes a bullet-time shot.

However, bullet time usually implies using over 100 still cameras being fired at lightning-fast, computer-controlled intervals, and usually in front of an expensive blue/green screen with special lighting, etc. Obviously most of us here don't have the kind of money it takes to do bullet-time shots that way.

      BT-green.jpg

      Stills.jpg

      Bullet-Time.jpg

So, a while ago I realized the system doesn't have to be that expensive or sophisticated to work half-decently.... imagine you draw a big circle on the ground. Now divide it into 16 equal slices, like a pizza. Imagine that at each "cutting point" you have a spot for your camera to go. Of course we're only using one camera.... even if we could afford renting 16 still cameras, we don't have any way of shooting them all at the same time, or at controlled intervals. So the way we'd do it is placing the camera at the first point, taking a shot, moving it to the next, and so on (why 16? Simply because 8 would be too choppy and 32 would be a crazy amount of work).

You place your actor in the middle, and map out his/her poses for each camera position. Once you have that, it should be easy to pose for each shot as you move the camera around the circle you've created.

For the poses which are impossible to stand still for, you can use a short stool (no higher than one's knees) for the actor to rest his back on, and photoshop it out later. Depending on your background and the ground itself, it shouldn't be too hard to do this, using the clone tool.

Once you have all 16 shots taken, you clean each one up in photoshop (removing the stool, the markers on the ground on the other side of the circle, etc.) and use a morphing program to make them into a single video. That's the hardest part right there, because if your scene is visually complicated then you're gonna be setting up over 100 morph points for each transition!

Once you have that (probably after a good few weeks of strenuous work), you put the video into the background of a 3d environment (you can use Blender, a free 3d modelling/animation/rendering program), set up a camera following the same path, insert bullets and a cool distorsion effect on the background video for the bullet trails, and presto! You have yourself an inepensive bullet-time shot. Note: I didn't say easy, I said inexpensive. smiley8.gif

If anyone has constructive criticism about this method, has another idea to produce this effect, knows a good morphing program or just wants to discuss this topic, please go right ahead.... I'd love to hear from you. smiley1.gif

I drink it pretty much around the clock. Sometimes it's just so refreshing, you know?

    • ennervance

Actually, it still looks like the normal juice. Except that when you pour it into a cup, it bubbles slowly as it continues to ferment.

And I drink lots, and lots, of water- more than most of my friends, and we all live in the middle of the desert. It's crazy.

    • ennervance

      Fair enough, I suppose.

I generally subsist on fermented juice between parties. I average about a party every month and a half, or so. And the juice ferments on its own, so I don't have to do anything except bring it home and then laugh when it explodes out of the bottle. And all over my stuff.

      >_<

Yeah, and I keep swearing to myself that I'll never acquire it- it's the first step on the road to alcoholism, which I really, really don't want to go down. And I have a personality to be addicted to things easily.

I've tried Heineken and Corona- neither impressed me. Also, Guinness is way too beery-tasting to me- that taste makes me kinda nauseous.

The best luck I've had so far was Bud Select- there's no throat raping as it goes down.
