According to my recently refreshed awards, I now have over 100 people watching me...yeah, it's a bit creepy. I figured the least I could do for my adoring fans is let them know why they don't get anything from their ever-so-valued watch button click.

Well, it looks like my last journal entry was just over a year ago. What has happened since then? I switched Canadian Tires. They were building a new one in my area and closing mine, so I went over, helped them set up, and spread my general knowledge all over the place. Those were long, tiring days, but they paid off because the store is pretty busy, and the staff is becoming well known in the area for their excellent customer service. You're welcome.

Shortly after the store opened, around January 2013, I reduced my hours. I had realized that I was too comfortable with that job, and that I wasn't motivated to actively search for a teaching job. So, I halved my hours in order to motivate myself. At first, I was hired on-call at two more private schools, but that still wasn't very regular work. I also began filling the extra time by volunteering more at my church, at which I am now in a leadership role (which means lots of meetings), and which is presently in the process of developing our adjacent property (which means more meetings).

In March, I got a call from one of my schools asking if I would be interest in covering a medical leave. A teacher was on the wait list for surgery, and they were expecting to need me in September for about half a year. At the end of April, I got a call back saying that her surgery was scheduled for May 9...so I was needed right away. So, I spent May-June teaching math, chem and biology, which was really busy because I had to learn Bio and relearn Chem, and my contract runs until the end of December 2013. Then, through the summer, I taught summer school, only returning to Canadian Tire for about 2 weeks before I was back in school for prep. Right at the beginning of summer, I got a call from another one of my schools asking if I would be interested in a job from Feb-Jun 2014. This would work out perfectly, so I accepted. Knowing that I would be gone for pretty much a year, I offered my resignation to Canadian Tire, but they wouldn't let me quit. "Let's just play it by ear," were the exact words. Hey, I'm not complaining.

So, since September, I have been teaching all the Senior High math courses, plus biology 11/12 and a Bible 10 class. That's a very full work load, plus all my extracurriculars. This is why I haven't been on this site lately: because my evenings have consisted of studying, planning, and marking until the wee hours of the morning, and I likely won't be able to return regularly for a while. smiley2.gif

      tl;dr: I'm a busy guy. You're all awesome.

So, I volunteered to fill out a series of surveys for a local radio station about my radio habits. Today's survey contained a question on "Podcasts/programs not available on AM or FM radio," and they gave a list of some podcasts which, of course, I don't listen to, so I checked the "Other" box and filled in Retcast, Late Nite JengaJam, and Rooster Teeth Podcast (in that order). You're welcome.

      Hey everyone!

If you are reading this, I need your help. I'm undertaking a very ambitious project and I want it to be a success. I will be editing the next Awesome On Its Own video, which will be a mash up of Katy Perry's California Gurls and Ke$ha's Tik Tok. I would appreciate it if you would consider filming a submission for one or both songs...heck, if you can only film one line, do it!

      Details are here!

      Thanks!

Okay, so my cell plan is set to expire in a month, and I'm thinking about upgrading from a regular phone to an iPhone (not a 4, though). My problem is that I have two really good offers: one from a rival provider (Telus), and a counter by my current provider (Bell).

Now, Telus has had a reputation in the past of having poor coverage, but it looks like I'm in the middle of 3 close cell towers, so that's not a huge factor, but something to consider. The thing that Telus does better is customer retention. Bell is pretty inflexible except when you have leverage (like I do now), and rarely offers extras/discounts. Telus offers extras, discounts and freebies for long-term customers. What I'm mainly looking for is cost, and data. I'm not too concerned with minutes, as I don't use them much, and I also don't plan on doing many img/video texts.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help me choose which one I should choose. Here's a grid that summarizes the two plans.

...and more powerful than you could possibly imagine!

So, almost a month ago my computer's HDD died. Now, my computer has served my faithfully for almost 9 years, and I was sure that I just needed to reinstall Windows and that would fix it. However, I've got a great summer job which equals a bit more spending cash, so I thought, it's time for a new one.

Last time, I made the mistake of buy a pre-built computer, and got a sub-par (IMHO) machine (P4, no hyper-threading, 2 ram slots, no AGP slot, etc.), so this time I figured I'd build my own. And let me tell you, it's WAY cheaper than buying one from the store. Here's a run down of what I got for $1100 + tax:

Intel Core i7 Quad Core 875K (Unlocked) - 2.93 GHz HT, 8MB Cache
      ASUS P7P55D Pro Motherboard, DDR3, Dual Channel Max 16GB, 3xPCI-X, 2xPCI, SLI/Crossfire
      4GB (2x2GB) Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 CL8 Memory
Coolermaster Sileo 500 ATX Tower Case w/500w PSU
WD Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" SATA HDD w/64MB Cache
2x ASUS 24x SATA DVD Writer
Nmedia Card Reader w/ eSATA, Firewire
      EVGA Geforce 9500GT 550MHz, 512MB DDR2 w/ Dual DVI out + HDTV out (S-Video)
Coolermaster HyperTX Aluminum 3-heatpipe CPU Cooler
      MS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Note: including case, media bay and MB, I have a total of 12x USB 2.0, 4x eSATA, and 2x Firewire. Internally (on MB), 3x USB, 6x SATA. In addition to the 1TB HDD, I put in my old 500GB and 120GB HDDs from my old comp (as I thought, data's all intact, just wouldn't boot), and a 1TB eSATA docked HDD, for a total of 2.62 TB.

I got all this last Thursday and have spent the last few days setting up and installing like mad, which is why I've been absent.

Part two of my most expensive month ever: My sister came back from Japan in March and wants her Wii back, so I bought a snazzy new Black Wii. About two days after that, my good friend Fungster informed me that he was going to get a 360 Slim and would sell me his old one for $150 with a few games. How could I refuse?

Anyway, my brother told me the other day about a Rogers Video (rental store) near my place that's going out of business, so all used DVDs are 3 for 1, and all new items are 50% off. So I stupidly ventured over there and picked up a few DVDs:

      Up in the Air
      The Informant
      Sherlock Holmes
F4: Rise of the Silver Surfer
      Robot Chicken Star Wars 2
      DC Superhero Adventures (Filmation)
      Next Avengers
      Stargate: Continuum
      Watchmen: Director's Cut ($3.99!!!)
Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li (Don't laugh. It was free and Kristen Kreuk's hot)
      Push
      The Spirit
      In the Loop
      Burn After Reading
      Inglourious Basterds
      Planet Hulk
      Fight Club
      Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
      Ferris Bueller's Day Off
      Garden State

And then, if that wasn't enough, I was just about to leave when I spotted the video game wall. All the good Wii stuff was gone, but I managed to get Elite Beat Agents and Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades for the DS, and the following for my "new" 360:

      Headset
      Dragon Age + Expansion
      Halo Wars
      Iron Man 2
      Timeshift
      Prototype
      Incredible Hulk

      All for 50% off.

*sigh* Good thing my summer job pays well (better than Erok?) I'll have it payed off in a month.

      How are all of you?

...so, apparently Steve Rogers' new position comes with a promotion to the rank of Captain. Interesting. And about time, too.

Now, if one were to write out a quotation from Rogers before the promotion, is it proper to refer to him by his current title, or his title at the time?

    • Captain America Returns!

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

Well, here we are, three years to the day of the death of Private Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America. Three years since the news rocked the nation that Captain America had died. I don't think there's been a fictional character whose death cause more international news that Steve did.

His death caused the world to pause and think. About what he stood for; about what America stood for; about what America stands for now.

And now, three years later, he has returned. In an expertly crafted tale by Ed Brubaker (and, if you believe the rumours, stolen by Grant Morrison for his Batman story), Steve was sent hurling through time, reliving some of his greatest and darkest moments, to finally return to the present, in time to rescue Tony Stark, the Iron Man.

And it's only fitting that as Captain America helped unify the original Avengers and push Marvel into the Bronze Age of comics, that he would return just in time to help usher in Marvel's new era: The Heroic Age.

Marvel's transition story, Siege, brings together again the "Big Three:" Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor, as Norman Osborn and the American Government wage war on Asgard. This story promises to bring about some big changes in the structure of the Marvel Universe (deemed the "Heroic Age"), and though Steve has stated that he doesn't want to don the Red, White and Blue again, I'm sure Marvel has great plans for him.

      Welcome back, Steve.

So, it was 5 years ago today that I became a member of the Rooster Teeth Community. Really, I was a part of it before that, when the site was still bland and white, before accounts, sponsors, journals, and groups. But it was on this day, 2004, shortly after the community site was launched, that I signed up for an account.

A lot has happened here for me in the last 5 years. I've made several friends, even some in my city, and talked to several others via Skype. I helped found the Comic Book Movies thread, probably THE largest thread in all the forums, if you take into account we are on our fourth thread due to the old thread page bug. I joined the music group, Awesome On Its Own. I have attended 2 out of 3 RvB CanWests, and met Kathleen, Geoff, Joel, Luke, Nico, and Becca. I have been a guest several times on Retcast, a podcast that rose from the CBM thread. I've had countless arguments and discussions about Comic Books. And I have gotten 4 friends hooked on RvB.

All in all, a great 5 years. I regret nothing. Here's to another 5 years!

Yea, got out of hell and went right after the people who caused it called the Red Right Hand. They are all people in one way or another lost family because of Logan. That arc was maybe one issue too long but it is a ending you don't see coming. I don't want to spoil it here, I can PM you it if you like, but in the end Wolverine loses badly.

Music fail. By definition, A Capella doesn't have instruments, so Piano and/or Karaoke would not be A Capella.

I, on the other hand, might actually do some A Capella...

Oh, sorry about that. I meant to actually put the word "can't" get a karaoke machine/piano. Driving and posting on RT doesn't work well.

What I was referring to when I said "Talia turns out to be Ra's" in Retcast:

In the Batman Beyond episode "Out of the Past", it is revealed that Batman's final confrontation with Ra's, during a period known as the Near-Apocalypse of 2009, left Ra's so injured that not even the pits could heal him. Talia took control of his company, and eventually approaches Bruce with an offer to use the pits' restorative powers to become young once more. A moment of weakness leads Bruce to accept. During their stay at her mansion, Bruce and Terry McGinnis, the new Batman, discover that Talia is actually Ra's; because his body was injured beyond repair, Talia effectively gave her life for him by copying his mind into her body. Though the transfer process could only work between two close genetic relatives at first, Ra's has since modified to work universally, and plans to transfer into Bruce. With Bruce's rejuvenated body, he can claim to be the elder Bruce's son, inheriting control of Wayne-Powers for his own ends. Bruce escapes with Terry's help, leaving Ra's behind with the computer in flames. Ra's activates fire-extinguishing foam to save the computer, but a stray cable strikes the pits and creates a massive explosion, destroying the mansion and presumably Ra's along with it.

Hey, you hold a lot of sway among AOIO, and I know you appreciate some Meat Loaf. Any chance you could try and persuade them to do a Meat Loaf song sometime soon? That'd be fucking sweet. Plus, if they're written by Jim Steinman they tend to be long enough to work in a lot of really cool shots/people.

Not really something we can do, because of these reasons.

1)We are the middle men and do not represent Child's Play in an capacity other then we facilitate a event on their behalf 2) Child's Play is an American charity, and they already off tax receipts, but since you/I are Canadian they do not do us any good.
