    • Stupid School...Stupid Internet...

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

So, I get back from Christmas break and I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing episode 70, cause as many of you know, I have dial-up at home, and thus do most of my "heavy" surfing at school. Well, I go to the Science Undergrad Lounge, which is where I'm able to save stuff and transfer to my USB HD, and lo and behold, the internet connection has mysteriously been dropped! To quote Vader, "NOOOOOOO!!!"

Anyway, It's part of my responsability as Lounge room manager to handle the computers, so I call IT services. They say it's not their problem, they only deal with res. So I am refered to Network Services, and they say it's not their problem, cause they only deal with wireless, so I have to talk to IT Services ( smiley4.gif ). I go back to IT and explain all this, then they say that I have to talk to my Net Admin in the faculty office. Well, since we're not a regular lab, we don't have a Net Admin in the faculty office. Finally, I find out that one of my friends works in IT Services, so he tells me that I have to deal with campus LAN Admin, gives me their phone number, and files a report with them.

A week later, the LAN Admin guy shows up. I show him the problem, and he tests the port...okay. He then tests the wire...okay. He plugs into our router...no go. So, he says that it's probably a problem with our router, either that it's broken, or our firewall settings are buggered somehow. Well, I didn't set up the router, and the person who did has been gone for a few years, so I have no idea what the username and password are, so I can't check the firewall. However, I figure that I should be able to connect to the outside world directly by not using the router. At least get one computer working again. now it's complaining about a DHCP problem. In my experience, this is usually a bad thing.

Anywho, luckily, another friend of mine wanted to use the internet, but was unable to, and it just so happens that he also works in IT Services. This means that he knows what he's doing (and I don't), so he has agreed to help. i hope he can figure stuff out, cause everyone's getting kind of annoyed, and the poeple who are supposed to be fixing this are just sitting on their butts, getting paid smiley5.gif .

      In Summary:
No internet at school + Slow internet at home = No RvB. I am not going to read the 400+ forum messages, so please try to catch me up a bit. I will, however, read all the journals. So, sorry in advance for the outdated comments.

PS: Happy belated birthday to Chupathingy

    • Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goo

      ...d night!

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, or whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year.

In my opinion, one sign that was surpressed in Ontario said it best:
Let's put the Christ back in Christmas!

I know that some (all?) of you will be drinking a lot around now, so please don't dirve, or find a designated driver.

Well, that's about it for now, see you when school resumes! smiley4.gif

    • Happy Anniversary to ME!

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

No, I'm not married. It has been one year since I signed up for RT/RvB. I probably did it to keep my mind off my exams, and it probably did...kept me from studying too, stupid computer...Good thing I only have one left. It's not too hard. Yesterday was the hard one. I got maybe 60%. Stupid hockey game "kept me" from studying.

As it is a special day, I demand Mod points! Give them now! smiley0.gif

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

    • Finally, some pictures!

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

Well, things have finally slowed down a bit, so I have finally had time to post those Halloween pictures that I promised! Yeah, yeah. Only a month late. The first couple are from the Video Games Live concert at the Queen E. Theatre here in Vancouver (Sunday, Oct. 30), and the rest are from school on Halloween (UBC, Oct. 31). Enjoy!

      ...we are such nerds!

    • DO NOT WANT!!!!

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

Well, I haven't been able to get my Halloween/VGL pics up yet for 2 reasons:
      1) I haven't touched my computer in 1 1/2 weeks! :( (it's lonely) due to massive school work.
      2) Internet at school is not working. They installed new stuff at one of the residences and buggered tsome of the DNS servers. Hardlines are not working in the buildng I frequent, and wireless is very spotty. I'm lucky to be on right now. Hopefully I will be back full force next week.

On the good side, there haven't been any inane, non-sensical, useless discussions on the Comics Book Movies forum pushing the new messages up to 10 pages. (also no Ren bashing - Ren doing the bashing...)

      Later!

      -- edit --
      November 15, 2005

Well, a week and a half later, the internet decided to make itself work again. Nuts. And I was just starting to jump through all the hoops. Hopefully I will have some fantastically amazing halloween pics for y'all to see soon. Right now, I have to watch some episodes and read some threads!

    • Video Games Live was the R0x0rz!

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

So, I went to Video Games Live last night, and it was really fun. I and my two friends were Red Mage, White Mage, and Fighter. He even had swordchuks! I will hopefully be posting pictures soon. I nearly won the costume contest (I was probably 4th) and people thought that I should have won, but 2 out of the top 3 had really great costumes.

The orchestra, which is from Seattle and records much video game music, played selections from such great games as Castlevania, Legend of Zelda, Mario, Advent Rising, Metal Gear Solid, Myst, Atari (medley), and much more, with Halo as a Finale. It was really sweet. I wanted to buy some souveniers, but they were too expensive (I'm not paying $10 for a programme). They will be putting together a CD once their tour is done, so I'll get that.

I would strongly recommend this to anyone who loves orchestral and choral music or video games (inclusive or). Should this show be hitting your town, this year or any other, check it out. You will be pleased.

    • X3 in Vancouver...And I was there.

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

Not "on set", per se, but beside set. Check out the pic in my images section...Stupid crash...now I'm not a sponsor and can't put up all of my pictures. There are only two others. I'll have to put them up later.

      Here's what was going on:
The entrance to Worthington Labs is in front of the Wall Centre Sheraton Hotel. The two big cranes are for the stunt man. The scene is: There is a protest going on in front of Worthington Labs (anti-cure?). One sign said something like Evolution not Revolution. There are a bunch of lab coats and rent-a-cops around too. All of a sudden, Angel swoops down from the top of the blue crane into the middle of the crowd. No Ben Foster, just Second Unit.

They did a test drop with a large sand bag a bunch of times, then a few camera drops, then only a couple with the stunt man. I missed those cause I was in church at the time. No, that's not my church in the crane pic. That's the church across the street. The one in the picture is actually the one used in X2 for the Nightcrawler scene. Hey, Vancouver is Hollywood North.

Those cranes were huge. Over 25 storeys high. They required counter balances totalling 42000kg = 42 tonnes = 46.2 tons! Quite amazing. It was really neat to watch, but then it started raining. The extras were getting pretty wet. I'm kind of glad that I'm not an extra. I would hate to have to stand in the rain for the whole day...although the pay is pretty good...

    • Back at school, and new speakers.

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

Well, I'm back at school now...And I got new speakers for my computer.

      That is all.

      Just kidding.
I was originally just taking 2 courses this year (which sucked cause it took more time to go to school and back than to be at school), but I decided to take a few more, so now I have 5 classes. 3 first term, 2 second term. It's nice to be back. It's a good change from full time work.

I also bought some new speakers for my computer. They were $29.99 (CAN) at Best Buy, and they are 24W speakers with a small sub. Makes playing LOTR: ROTK very nice.

    • DS II

      EagleMan B. Sc, B. Ed

No, not Nintendo DS II. Dungeon Siege II. While the first game was a pretty bad RPG, it was still a pretty fun game. DSII just came out (after being 4 months late), and raved about its new features, so I picked it up. Much to my plesant surprise, it looks like an actaul RPG instead of a pseudo-RPG/Action/Adventure/hack-and-slash-platform-turned-3D game. Most of the things people complained about in the first one have been fixed or altered. I haven't installed the game yet, so I don't know exactly how they all work, but I read the manual, so here's an overview:

Multiple Races - there are now 4 races to choose from: Elves, Dryads, Humans, and Half-Giants. Each race is geared toward one of the 4 specializations from the first game (Nature magic, Combat magic, Melee, Long-Range), and have special modifiers to reflect this, with the exception of humans. They can be any type and come with points that can be spent when creating your character.

Enchantable weapons - you can now buy magical rocks and put them in your weapons to give them magical abilities.

Necromancers - should you happen to lose (most) of your party and not have their stuff when they are ressurrected, visit the necromancer, and he will get your stuff back...for a price.

      (probably the biggest one)
Optional Sidequests - That's right. No more "single-path, no straying RPG". There's still one problem: when you go to an NPC, the icon will reflect if they are involved in your quest or not, and whether you have all you need to get their help.

Caches - in every city, there is a "bank" for you to drop your excess stuff in. I'm pretty sure all your stuff is accessible from all cities.

Inns - you can sleep at the inn, and, if you dismiss a person from your party, you can get them back from (any?) inn.

Pets - you (only mages?) can buy a pet who has abilities that no player can have. They also increse in level as you do.

More slots - you can now have 4 active spells, 2 autocast spells (like healing), and 4 "special powers". These special powers are recharge attacks. That's about all I know right now.

Skills tree - as you level up, you get points that you can use to gain extra skills and abilities. This was probably the second biggest RPG element missing.

That's all I can remember. I think that it looks better as an RPG than the first. Let's hope. I think it will have been worth the wait.

For all you 'cats fans, although you probably already know, Season 1 Volume 1 is out on a 6-disc DVD set. I picked it up. It is very cool. It contains the first half of season 1 (33 episodes), as well as a bonus fan featurette. There may be other special features, but I haven't checked out all the discs yet.

Very not serious at all. I'm a stickler for rules, but other than that it's simply d&d 3.5 edition. You can download the books all over. (I'm not going to link it because that's against the terms of use((just google it))

      1. I'll respond with something random about you.
      I love Rockapella too!
      2. I'll tell you which song or movie you remind me of.
      Eagle Eye. Lame, I know.
      3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle you in.
      Cookie dough jello. Just 'cause.
      4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me, if possible.
I don't think we have many inside jokes. We should change that!
      5. I'll tell you my first memory of you.
God by this time I don't remember when I met everyone. I knew you before the CBM though. So I like you more than them.
      6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
...soooo duh. I'm going to say Hawk instead of Eagle to be contrary.
      7. I'll ask you something I've always wondered about you.
If you could live anywhere besides Canada, where would it be?
      8. I'll tell you my favorite thing about you.
You have good taste in comic books.
