Found this last night at a local Blockbuster for $15 [It was half-price], so I quickly snagged it up.

      img0278ij9.jpg

It's a framed canvas-print of the poster from Goldfinger. It's going up on my wall tonight after I get off work.

I also picked up a couple of Dark Knight posters: one of Batman and one of the Joker. Those are replacing my two Halo 3 posters by my bed.

      img0300xp0.jpg
      img0299nz2.jpg

On another note, Meghan and I rented The Sixth Sense and I Am Legend to watch after dinner. I had never seen The Sixth Sense, and she didn't see I Am Legend while it was in theaters.

I really enjoyed watching The Sixth Sense. It has to be M. Night's best film. The Village and Lady In The Water are weak sauce. Signs intrigued me, but it still didn't captivate me the way The Sixth Sense did. That's going on the buy-list.

Here's a note for you who have seen the film or are seeing it for the first time: look for things colored red, and definitely watch the movie over again.

      I know I will.

    • So Damn Busy...

Jesus- it's hard to keep a steady blog these days when you're so busy. Here's an update:

Saw Speed Racer yesterday. Don't believe that negative reviews that critics are giving it. Does it live up to the 1967 cartoon? The answer is a resounding yes. It's quite enjoyable, once you get past some of the silliness that Spritle and Chim-Chim pull off. The best parts of this film are, of course, the action sequences. There is an adrenaline rush for sure when you see the races. But you see, I grew up with Speed Racer, so I guess my verdict is this- This is a pretty entertaining film for people who have seen Speed Racer before and are fans. If you are not a fan, don't see it. You probably won't like it. It's on my buy-when-on-dvd list.

I saw Iron Man last Saturday. Like everyone else, I loved it. Robert Downey, Jr. does a fantastic job as Tony Stark, and is the most believable comic book-to-movie character adaption I have ever seen. It's on my buy-when-on-dvd list as well.

My birthday is a week from today. However, today, I received a few early birthday presents that are quite nice:

The Original 1987 collected edition of Watchmen

      n28751qu9.jpgNot the re-print

Batman Year One: Part One [Batman #404 from February 1987]

      Batman #411 [Batman #411 fro September 1987]

And All Star Batman and Robin #1 Special Edition

Note the differences from the regular editions. The special edition also includes the rough sketches of the entire comic and the comic script]

Yesterday, my girlfriend gave me a t-shirt from American Eagle that makes me look very good. I'm sort of having to get used to the whole "new look", considering that I never set foot in American eagle until this past week. But hell- I don't look bad in those clothes. I'm just taking it slow with that style, and it won't be all that I wear. I can still be the baggy pants and Batman t-shirt wearing guy. My girlfriend is more than cool with that. I've been more of the shorts, flip-flops, and t-shirt kind of guy.

Anyway, I have to run to work now.

      And life goes on...

Today happened to be my 6 month anniversary with my girlfriend. It was a very special day.

I gave her my 30 gig Halo 3 edition Zune, bought her a yellow rose, had a cake made, took her to eat at Olive Garden, and went strolling along the beach.

She's worth all that and more. I love her more than anything.

Just thought that I would update. I'll be back on soon- I have a few things to rant about.

    • Realizing That I Never Actually Grew Up

Ok- now, most of you know that I am a sucker for nostalgia from my childhood. I love Batman and Star wars. why? Because I grew up with them. I still love LEGO. Why? I grew up with it [have Lego Star Wars, plan on buying LEGO Indiana Jones and Batman]. The same concept applies to cartoons that I watched as a kid. I love Gatchaman [aka- G Force & Battle of the Planets], Thundercats, Ronin Warriors, Gundam, Speed Racer, and Dragon Ball. Why? Because I grew up with them.

I am already seeing Speed Racer opening day on May 9, but there is something else that I grew up with that is being turned into a live action film that has me more excited than seeing Speed Racer.

      dragonballposterusbh6.jpgdragonballteaserpostered3.jpg

I hope that they get this right. By the way, this is the movie to the Original Dragonball, not Dragon Ball Z.

Incidentally, my friend Jason gifted me with these two box sets yesterday:

I bought a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO router today. The initial set up was easy, since the software did all of the hard stuff for me.

I connected my laptop, Wii, and even synced my Zune to the network to try it out. It's pretty good at a speed of 54 mbps.

By the way, here;s my friend code for the Wii if any fellow Wii-gamers want to add me:

      Wii Friend Code: 3074-1127-8932-7745

      Super Smash Bros. Brawl: 1762-3167-9835

I am going on a trip with my girlfriend tomorrow to the Saenger theater to see the stage production of Beauty and the Beast.

    • Review: The Forbidden Kingdom

      Elite17

I just got back from seeing The Forbidden Kingdom.

I was right-- it was very good.

I expected it to be standard "hero time-warps into past to save the day and return home" kind of fare. Well, it had that basic element, but it was much more entertaining than anything that uses that main-plot that I've ever seen.

The fights are entertaining and fun to watch, and as usual, Jackie Chan adds a unique humor that only he can bring.

The story is great. Of course, anyone who is somewhat knowledgeable about Journey to the West would appreciate it, but reared on classic Hong Kong action cinema as I am, it just added that much more potential for enjoyment to the film. And man, did it deliver.

The film has elements from Drunken Master and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, while somewhat branching off but still maintaining the key elements from Journey to the West.

Seeing Jet Li as the Monkey King was pure fun, and Jackie Chan reprising his role as a Drunken Master was classic.

Even the opening should provide plenty of fan service to Kung-Fu film fans, as it opens with a montage of various kung fu films from the 60s and 70s wave of Hong Kong action cinema.

Go see this film. You'll enjoy it, as it is one of the most entertaining films I have seen in years.

Looks like someone you know pulled/strained a muscle in his back yesterday while at work.

That's right, thrill seekers. And it hurts. Very, very badly.

It was horrible yesterday, but today is mostly throbbing pain and stabbing pain only when I lean or bend down, climb stairs, etc. Pain is now associated with walking, standing, sitting, laying down, etc. EVERYTHING makes me hurt. Luckily, I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow. I left classes early today to go home and rest.

when I got home, I ate something, took a nap, got on the internet, and played Smash Bros. Brawl while listening to Smodcast.

Tonight, I am going out to eat Chinese with my girlfriend, followed by the 7:15 showing of The Forbidden Kingdom.

      405pxforbiddenkingdompoht9.jpg

From the trailer, it looks like it should be a pretty good kung-fu flick, considering the inspiration for the story, the casting of Jackie Chan and Jet Li as the lead, and Woo Ping's involvement as choreographer and producer-- this film should turn out to be gold.

Didn't really do much today. Woke up at 7:35 this morning- got a shower and helped Mom run errands.

After that, I went over to Meghan's house at 11:45 and watched Second Hand Lions and Tom & Jerry. I stayed over there until about 3:45.

Went to work, came home, ate, and got on the internet [where I am currently]. I might play a bit of Smash Bros. Brawl- but not for too terribly long. I work 8 AM - 3 PM tomorrow, so I have to rest up!

I had to drink half of a 20 oz bottle of Sunkist, 2 cans of Red Bull [the big ones], and a Full Throttle energy drink to keep me going at work today. Exhausted!

I also got a second Wii remote, so that friends and I can play Wii sports more often together.

And, ladies and gentlemen...was my day!

    • Wii What?

      Elite17

      Anyway- here's the update.

I traded in my Xbox 360 and most games for it for a Nintendo Wii and Smash Bros. Brawl.

      Yes- you heard me right.

      ssbbcoversk0.jpg

      I AM SERIOUSLY ADDICTED!

Well, here's the thing- my 360 was broken and no longer under warrant, so I traded it in at the Gamestop at my local mall and received store credit for it. I also traded in all of my xbox and Xbox 360 games save Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Doom 3 Collectors Edition [which includes Doom & Final Doom as well], and Gears of War. The rest went zippo!

Point is- I have had more fun in the past week with the Wii than I have had for almost 2 years with the 360. I bought the Wii as something that I could play, as something that y friends would play, as something that my girlfriend, her parents, and even my mom would play- and that has happened.

I'm playing all of the old franchises that I grew up with- Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and I even hear that a new Donkey Kong title is in production- an actual title- not like Donkey Konga- as in- a follow up game past Donkey Kong 64!

      I am ecstatic.

The Virtual Console is great fun as well, with Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, classic Mario 1-3, Donkey Kong Country 1-3, Star Fox, Pokemon Snap, etc. The level of support for past consoles and franchises is truly awesome. I am really anticipating WiiWare.

So- here is the list of what I a anticipating this year, and what I am planning on buying:

      Anticipating:

      1. Donkey Kong Wii

      donkeykongmp7qjpreviewtec7.jpg

      3. Everyone's Pokémon Ranch

      4. Wii Fit

      wiifitpalboxartfn2.jpg

      5. Mario Super Sluggers

      first-look-super-mario-stadium-baseball-

      Planning To Get These:

      1. Super Mario Galaxy

      supermariogalaxyurmrgaymr1.jpg

      3. Super Paper Mario

      superpapermariocovertl9.jpg

      4. Zelda: Twilight Princess

      5. Meroid Prime 3: Corruption

      metroidprime3packaginglq2.jpg

      6. Okami

      okamiwiiub8.jpg

Any Suggestions on any other Wii or even Gamecube games that I should buy?

Yeah, unless Ron Paul can get a chance in hell of winning the election I'm not going to, as bad as this sounds, waste a vote on him. I can't vote for Hillary either, because of her stance on videogames. I also heard that Joe Liberman might end up being John McCain's running mate. If so, I won't be able to vote for McCain either (not that I was planning on voting for any republican anyway). So Obama is probably where I'm going to go.
