All of RvB, caught up on Sinfest and xkcd, and snorted water through my nose whil watching DBZ Abridged. Twice.

I have plowed through Devil May Cry, Oblivion, Forced Unleashed, Assassin's Creed, Jedi Knight, Skies of Arcadia, and Fire Emblem (6 through 8, in japanese.)

      I declare my summer seized.
      I am back.

..."Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level?"
      "It's....nine-thousand and one."
      "Really?"
      "Yep. Kick his ass, Nappa."
      "Yaaaay!"

      *Later*
"....Oh, hold on, I had the scouter upside-down. It's...over nine thousand. Grah."
"Why do you sound so bored?!?!"

will be the death of me.

I am currently in the throes of trying to find work for the summer, so the applications are running my life. Note: applying with the government sucks. Really great hours, decent pay, sometimes even fun jobs - sucky paperwork.

And then they want me to write a cover letter. First, I hate talking about myself, so writing about my merits (ha! merits!) is like pulling teeth. Second, the application is so bloody long... I feel like writing in the designated space, "what the hell do you want? What could I possibly say here that your millions of (often repetitive and redundant) qusetions don't already tell you? Come on!"

But I probably wouldn't get the job that way.
      Sigh.

Play COD4. He just knifed someone to death.

Now he's building an invincible wall of claymores at the top of all the staircases in the building. Then he'll probably sit in a corner with his gun pointed down the stairs, and laugh evilly while waiting for someone to fall into his trap.

      My brother is doing homework.

Two weeks ago, we all went to Cuba for reading week. It so happened one night that my parents were out at the disco. In the morning, my mom told us a story about doing shots of tequila at 2 in the morning. My brother and I had been in bed since midnight.

My family dynamic is so backwards.

This is the first time I've actually signed in in....longer than usual. I keep just checking the front page without signing in. And then I was like....wait, I bet I'm missing stuff. So here I am.

      Soooo many alerts. Bwah.

In other news, I'm 20 today. No longer a teenager. Weird.

    • me + caffeine + french class = ?

      EvilM89

I feel exhausted. I've had coffee today, too...I guess it wasn't enough. The caffeine high has worn off, and now I'm just as tired as I was this morning. Thank god for Wednesday mornings...or my lack of them, really. I will sleep in tomorrow and catch up on everything I've missed. I have 45 minutes left in this class. Usually I have no problems with 2 hour classes. Today this one is taking FOREVER. I keep having to hold my eyes open. We're talking about Creole in French class. I should be interested. But I'm not even taking notes. I'm just writing this to keep myself busy. It's an exercise to not think, just let my pencil go and write whatever. Half the time I'm writing with my eyes closed. Whatever I end up with, it'll be good for handwriting analysis. I actually had to stop and spell handwriting because it was coming out wrong. I'm exhausted, making all kinds of mistakes.
My professor just said "mixage". I'm pretty sure that's not a word in English or French. At least it means that I'm paying some kind of attention. Even if it's just my mistake radar kicking in. Never can turn that off; I guess that's a good thing in a way.
This would make a weird journal entry. I should do one of those, I haven't in a long time. I will, as soon as I finish terraforming that planet in Spore. Left my computer on. Handwriting getting wonky. Hinky.
      30 minutes to go.

      -----------
Discovered scribbled into my notes from tuesdat afternoon french class. Make of it what you will.

    • reasons I am a clarinetist

      EvilM89

In case anybody didn't know (and cares), I am a music major. Specifically, a music education major. Which means, in order to get my diploma, I have to be at least conversant with most if not all major instruments.
Having clarinet as my major instrument is minorly helpful, since this means it will only take about 30 seconds to learn the saxophone, and only marginally longer to learn oboe and bassoon. I have also been playing piano since I was about four, which means the potentially daunting task of leaning to read in another clef (i.e. bass) has already been taken care of. Brass instruments, however, are still a mystery to me, as are all the strings.

My current personal hell is my violin course, for which the exam is tomorrow morning. I've been drilling my hands off all day, practising fingering and hand positions, and had just decided I was ready to try all this with the bow when my upstairs neighbour came down to ask could I please tone it down a bit, because she's studying and apparantly her floor is made of paper.

This is hard, because, for me, noise IS studying. Noise is what I do. Noise is my vocation.
But, what am I going to say? So I smile, say "sure," and decide to give my pieces one last pizzicato (plucked) run-through (far less noisy) and pray that I don't drop the bow in my exam tomorrow.

I know, I'm a doormat. And now my right hand index finger is paying the price. That's right, I split my fingertip with that last pizzicato run. At least I can tell my prof tommorow that I practiced until my fingers bled. It will be true.

Hey hey, happy almost christmas holidays, everybody. In honour of my status as music student and in view of the soon-to-be-over exam period and coming time of slacking off, I thought I would share one of my recent obsessions.

There is a company called AniMusic, which produces animated short videos of fantastical, self-playing instruments. set to some pretty awesome music. It's likely you may have seen some of their work floating around the internet, most likely the clip entitled Pipe Dream which made the rounds a while ago as an e-mail forward under the name Incredible Machine.

Anyway, one of my very favorite clips is the video Resonant Chamber, which depicts a composite accoustic guitar-type instrument, which is actually quite musically accurate. (And the music kicks ass, too.) If ever a mutant alien arachnid were to be fused with a guitar and then depicted in a Salvadore Dali painting, it would look like this. I love the way the "arms" look so organic as they touch the strings.

      No, not just exams. (gleep!)
I meant Christmas. Holiday season. Winter Solstice, for all those who are more druidically inclined.
Anyway, I was daydreaming today and had a wonderful flashback to Christmas in good ol' 2002, (or maybe 2001) when ABC aired an adorable little montage jingle for the holidays. This thing was so great, I figured I would be able to find it on Youtube no problem, but.....for once in my life, the internet has failed me.

So, in order to vent my nostalgia a little bit, I decided to write it down here. (because I still remember all the words, even though I was only 12 at the time. Memory is so weird.)

      Hark, the herald angels sing,
Three wise men could cook this thing.
Peas on earth, and salsa, mild,
      Sorry, singing's...not my style.

      Joyful, spread the mess about,
Surprise for Drew, and figure it out,
Hear the game show host proclaim,
You'll win a million in this game

      Joy to all men,
      Goodwill towards me,
      Happy Holidays, from ABC.

Whee! Fun times, I must say. My residence had a field day, er, night, last night. How come we can never get this excited over our own elections? (answer: Canadian politics are boring.) Excellent closing speech, my man, although I'm not sure I'll be able to get over "worst economic crisis of the century". Did I miss something?

I would like to mention that I find it positively awesome that Kenya has declared Nov. 4th a national holiday in honour of Obama. I think we should all do that - we could all use an extra holiday to get us through November and on our way to Christmas.

Happy Obama Day, people, now let's see how long the honeymoon lasts. I'll err on the side of hopeful in this issue, I believe. :D

    • WTH is this, Mother Nature?!?!

      EvilM89

Ok. I would just like to let everyone in the universe know that, last night, tuesday, october 21st , it snowed in Toronto. And I don't mean the wet, sort of half-frozen half-assed kind of snow that we generally get in october. I mean real, driving, stinging kind of snow that shoots up your sleeves and down the collar of the loose jacket you wore beause you didn't realize it was going to be THAT DAMN COLD. 2 degrees. For all you fahrenheit people, about 35. Man, usually we get to wait till after Halloween at least before breaking out the woollies. What happened to all this global warming we've been hearing about, and where can we get some?
However, I am pleased to note that while it is still frickin' freezing, the snow does not appear to have stayed on the ground. Thank God for small mercies.

Props on the XKCD reference. I don't know how generally popular that particular comic is, but anyone who gets XKCD jokes is cool by me.

Hey, thanks for the comment! smiley1.gif

#1: Thanks! I'm honestly not too sure why I made the front page, but I'm not complaining. smiley8.gif

#2: Really? What part of Alberta is he from?

#3: Yep, I'm a bona fide insane music student with a major in voice. Takes a lot of crazy to keep up, but I'm currently on Christmas break, thank God.

Oh, and #4: Hmmm... terminal velocity...It's tricky, because Vt is less of a constant and more of... a thing... that's just there. smiley6.gif

And #5: "Watch out, that phrygian mode will kill you." I agree. smiley8.gif
