So, 12:41. It's technically my birthday now. Awesome. Also, due to the magic of time-travel, it's also TuckerRooles' birthday for the next few hours. Happy birthday Thryn!

So for celebratifications, my friends and I had an all-night LAN party on Saturday night. 'Twas much awesome. I think someone recorded a video of it. I'll upload that later. I got Heavy Rain from the guys and the promise of as much money as is necessary to pay for my driving lessons from my grandparents.

      *EDIT: THIS. IS. FIESTABOX!*

I can't say much about driving, but Heavy Rain is fucking epic. I just completed it a couple of minutes ago and I was genuinely blown away. Sure, some of the voice actors sound a little off, but the pace and atmosphere are absolutely perfect. Never before has a game made me shake from nerves, confusion and disgust all at once. Some of the things I did in that game, they were fucked up. I genuinely felt sick at one point. I'm very much looking forward to replaying it. It's said that the difference between all the possible endings is absolutely massive.

My birthday falls on Epic Lie-In Day, which is a pretty big win for me. smiley13.gif

    • Let's take a drive to Primrose Hill...

... it's windy there and the view's so nice.

I have quite a few memories from the 90s, despite my only being seven-years-old when they ended. I remember the house we used to live in. I remember crawling through the hole in the fence to go and play with my neighbour. I remember going to Norway for the first time as a family and I remember my green Gameboy Color and Pokemon Yellow, my first ever console - bought to keep me entertained during the epic 6-hour car journey to Newcastle where the ferry to Stavanger would depart from.

Y'know when most angsty teenagers are feeling angsty, they listen to emo music? When this angsty teenager is feeling angsty he listens to 90s music. I've been listening to a lot of 90s music recently. The decade-before-last was a funny place for music in the UK. Every self-respecting Brit owns a copy of Fatboy Slim's legendary You've Come a Long Way, Baby and can tell you which side he took during the Battle of Britpop. <3 Blur

All my feelings of late can pretty much be summed up into one song - For Tomorrow by Blur. Not happy or sad, just there. Existing. Primrose Hill, mentioned at the end of the song, is probably my favourite place ever. My dad used to work nearby and my whole family would go to meet him at the end of the day. We'd get the best ice cream in London from Marine Ices and go for a walk on the hill. You can see for miles all across the city. We were there on New Year's Eve for the millennium firework display. It's the perfect place for first dates too. See the last shot in the video, the one with Damon and the girl rolling down the hill? That was literally the exact spot of my first kiss.

If this is the tomorrow they were holding on for, they can keep it. I want good times back.
      __________________________________________________________________________

On a completely unrelated, angst-free note, I made an interesting discovery yesterday: If you ever stopped and took a look at a box of Coco Pops, you would be rather surprised to find that the word "breakfast" does not make a single appearance. This brought serious doubts to mind as to whether or not I had in fact been eating my Coco Pops at the intended time of day.

      More like... um... Valentine's gay...

I figured the easiest way to make it through the day without getting morbidly depressed would be to sleep through most of it, so I did. I awoke at half past the thirteenth hour today. Of course, for me to be tired enough to sleep in that late, I had to be awake for a couple of hours past midnight last night so it technically made no difference.

What with it being half-term right now, I can kiss my regular sleeping pattern goodbye. I doubt I'll miss it. It was pretty boring.

I watched The Fifth Element (high five Thryn!) for the first time in ages the other night. I <3 Gary Oldman (in a purely platonic way, of course) in that film.

I've written me a to-do list for this week. I'm sick of spending every single holiday sitting around achieving absolutely nothing.

      Eyhren's half-term stop-being-a-lazy-cunt-and-get-something-done list
      To read:
      -Steampunk
      -A Scanner Darkly
-I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
      -Beloved
      -His Dark Materials (again)
      -The Mortal Engines Quartet
      -Brave New World
-Around The World In 80 Days
      -Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
      -The Invisible Man
      -The Time Machine
      -Flight: Volume One

      To play:
      -Bioshock
      -Trine
      -Mass Effect
      -Psychonauts
      -Beyond Good and Evil
      -Prince of Persia
      -Dreamfall

      To watch:
      -Brazil
      -Stalker

      To do:
-review a game for a project with a couple of friends
      -some actual work
-write something for a personal project

I don't expect myself to complete the entire list in a single week but we'll see how much I do manage.

As I'm sure some of you are aware, the awesome flash DDR clone flashflashrevolution went suddenly offline some time late last year and has been down ever since then. Apparently there was some shit going on with the original owner of the site being a dick to the other staff.

Anyway, for those of you who miss the game, which was totally freakin' awesome, I'm glad to inform you that some of the community members got a hold of the engine and have reuploaded it for our playing pleasure. There be no community features any more smiley2.gif but at least we can still play the game.

      Go nuts.

So tomorrow is the last day of half-term. I've got all of next week off to play games, work, read books and sit around picking my nose. Freedom smiley13.gif

I played the Heavy Rain demo this evening. Never before have I orgasmed from seeing a close-up shot of a fat middle-aged man's face. Seriously, it's a pretty game. I love the atmosphere too. Very much looking forward to it.

I decided the other day to try selling some of the crap lying around in my room on ebay. Probably the best idea I've had in a long time. Apparently, a pile of xbox games, a wireless headset and an old laptop hard drive have a combined ebay value of approximately £90. Lucky me.

Finished Journey to the Centre of the Earth today. I loved it, which surprised me a bit. I got desperately sick of Lord of the Rings because of Tolkein's painfully detailed descriptions of trees and clearings, so I didn't expect to enjoy Verne's even more detailed descriptions of rocks. Seriously, there are a lot of rocks down there. Still, the rocks never took priority over the characters who were well developed and quite fun to follow. I think I might read this next. It's a collection of steampunk short stories. It looks quite exciting.

This is me and my bestest friend Ricky doing a dance. I thought you guys might like it.

      ... it's all the rage.

A text conversation with my dad:

Dad: Builders are working in your bedroom so laptop hidden in wardrobe
Me: Thanks. What could they possibly be doing in my room? Please say the ceiling will remain intact...
Dad: Well, you know those tents that we've got...
Me: Camping on the roof? Awesome...

The construction saga continues. Turns out they didn't actually do any building work in my room, they just rearranged all the furniture and piled all my stuff on the floor. Genius.

They also managed to fuck up both of the current floors in our house. Downstairs, they filled the whole living room with dust knocked down the chimney. My mum was pissed. The whole room is covered in an inch-thick coat of grey.
Upstairs, they managed to fuck up the wiring for all the lights so the entire floor is in darkness. I tried flipping the fuse but it sparked at me and I gave up.

      Fun!

Yeah it's very fantastical for a non-fantasy novel especially right after reading Birdsong and The Road; which not only had their feet firmly on the ground but were both knee-deep in muck, dirt and sewage for at least half of their stories.

It's on the list so it will be read one day. Not the whole trilogy though, only LotR is getting the whole trilogy read. But that's only because Tolkien saw it as just one book... Man that fucker is going to take a while to read when I get to it.

Hey there! The Google Wave RPGs group is sort of at a wishful thinking state right now- google wave is too slow to successfully pull off the concept yet. If/when we get it going I'll keep you in mind!
