Hey! I'm not dead yet! Started med school a few months ago. Still running. Uh, that's about it.

Just came back from Sierra leone yesterday. Very rewarding, informing, and educational trip. I saw a lot, did as much as i could, and came back with more experience and knowledge about medicine, tropical medicine, sierra leone, west Africa, and futball than I ever would have imagined.

I was able to help in surgery from laparotomy to emergency c-sections. I also visited the diamond mines, Freetown, meet the deputy minister on energy, met people from all over the world, watched an ungodly amount of futball when in town, ran in the countryside, spent a night in a small village, and saw more African millipedes than I ever expected. However, my best memories came at the hospital.

I'll be posting more when I get a chance, but currently I'm doing secondaries right now, as well as looking for a job and place to live until med school. Oh, and I improved my mcat while I was there.

      Last thing, screw brussels airlines.

      Hey all,
I'll be heading to Sierra Leone to volunteer at a local hospital for two months, later on this summer. I just wanted to ask to see if anyone had any helpful tips with traveling abroad, good book suggestions (for a kindle), or if anyone has actually been in that part of the world.

      Any help is appreciated!

For goodness sakes, I might be going to med school. Have my first interview next month, and have done secondaries to 8 other schools. As some of you know, this has been one of the reasons I have not been around for the past year or so, but it seems to have paid off to put so much work into it.

Just thought I'd let you all know. Will stop by the underarmour thread in a bit.

      Still planning on med school.

      That is all.

Haha, not really. Running is going well. I'm doing some great research on an oncogene and am enjoying my senior year classes. Other than that, I'm all studying and applications, so sorry for being so boring.

I'm alive after the rough semester, and am doing independent research right now. It's fun. Running has been okay, just not as fast as I wanted to be with a 10k on Thursday to finish off the season.

As for hockey... GO WINGS! SUCK IT REFS! WOOOOOO!

      Hey,
was thinking of putting this in the Mac forum, but didn't know how specific it should be.

Anyways, last wednesday, I synced a song to my ipod from itunes, ejected it, and then realized as I was walking out the door that it said there was no music on the ipod. I checked, and it said there was only 80 gigs available out of the 160g it has, which matches up with the amount I had on there. So, I tried to hook it back up and open it on itunes, but it crashes itunes everytime I try. Itunes runs fine when it's not connected, or when my phone is, but then just is on endless "loading" when I hook the ipod up. This also goes for a few other programs that try to locate and connect to the ipod. I then went on it manually, found the hidden files to make sure there was still the music on the ipod (which there was, but is organized with no song names or artists).

I tried this on another computer (both macs) and it did the same thing to that computers itunes. I've tried rebooting it, draining the battery, and I haven't found anything. My question is thus then: What is happening? What can I do to fix it? If I have to reformat the thing, can I manually get the music off the ipod? If so, is there a way to keep the track infos attached to the mp3's?

Thanks in advance for any help!

      Hey! I'm not dead!

I'm actually just incredibly busy. So busy, I'm contemplating the fact on why I'm on here. However, since it's been a few months or so, or maybe not, I'd thought I'd just post some things.

First off, RUNNING! I've been PRing in pretty much every distance and almost every timed run I've done in the last month, specifically in the longer distances. With the training program, the shape I'm in, and the training levels I'll be able to be at this season, I should be able to break 16 minutes in the 5k, and hopefully break 34 in the 10k.

Now on to even more interesting stuff, classes! I'm taking one hard workload. Ha Ha! Load! I switched my major from Chemistry to Biochemistry. But, I've got my Pchem thing going on, which is both the hardest class I've ever taken, and the most advanced. with that, also, I have Molecular Genetics, in which I'm doing an independent research in association with it, trying to clone DNA to insert it back into the genome. Basically, I'm doing this for a positive control for a knockout experiment to determine what transcript/exon deletion causes cancer from this gene. I then also have physics and poetry, but both of those are pretty boring. With all that, I'm studying for the MCat on the side, hopefully taking it in May.

Overall, I wanted to just let everyone know life was going, and that I'm busy but very happy with how busy I am. I'll try and get on more to do more updates, but I can't promise anything.

      Ha ha! Bi!

Just thought I'd come on say I'm studying like crazy when I'm not running or reading for enjoyment.

Also thought I'd come on and say "Buy Slaughterhouse". Maybe not the best album ever, but considering its the best album I've heard all year, and that they gave out about a whole albums worth of songs for free already, means buy it if you are a fan of hip hop/lyrics.

Been listening to a lot of Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky lately, though.

      FerrariMaste

Ok, so everyone should download this. Yes it is a mixtape, but it is probably the best mixtape I've heard in years, and it has no dj drops on it. B.o.B is a very talented artist, doing everything from rap to acustic guitar, so that should give you some insight into this download before you listen to it.

Also, it's totally free, so good music for free = win.

Yeah, there are a few reasons I've never played WoW. I've an addictive and compulsive personality, could easily see never sleeping again. And if this kid poured his heart and soul, hours that probably amount to a significant percentage of his life, into a silly character, then his mom wiped that out on a whim? No wonder he is acting like a retard.

Never the less, good job on the brother's part setting up the camera. Because at the end of the day this kid needs to be laughed at until he grows up.

I waiver back and forth over Stags Leap products. I enjoy the Artemis Cab, but other things like Stelztner Stags Leap District Merlot can suck my balls. Seriously. I think someone dipped their balls in the grape juice before fermentation and let them soak for a good half hour.

Du Pape is a good one. I'm currently on a big Cotes De Rhone binge as it's the grape opposite of the Du Pape. Instead of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache, it's 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. So fucking tasty. Inexpensive as hell too.

Yeah, Clockwork Orange is an amazing movie. This wasn't about which three of his movies were favorites, it's more stories about how his canon are part of memorable events in my life.

Not too much new stuff. I'm working on a concept right now, so mostly I'm listening to music for inspirational purposes...lots of DJ Shadow, Portishead, Massive Attack, Neurosis, Cult of Luna...pretty much anything heavily instrumental with a lot of bite.

It's not an instant cure-all, but I hope it gives the current team a little inspiration to actually TRY. It seems like they felt there was no hope, so why try? The first three games were miserable. Didn't seem like anybody gave a crap. But this should be the shakeup that's been badly needed. They weren't god-awful last year! So... they can pull some tricks out of a hat. No playoffs this year, but next year... it could happen. And hope is nice to feel for a change, when it comes to the Lions.

Notice in the painting the snake and the apples. The guy is trying to say something biblical about over-consumption or gluttony or lost innocence making you fat, not sure. I read an explanation of it once, but have forgotten what it said.

To add to Jim's comment, it's not just Georgia fighting with a breakaway faction in South Ossetia. Now Russia is involved and is bombing the crap out of cities -- and not limited to the disputed area of South Ossetia anymore, but deeper into Georgia.
