    • Not gonna say I'm back

      FlotingAxhed

'Cuz I'm not. I'm just not "gone" per se.

I've got a lot going on, and I've done an awful lot since I last logged in here regularly.

I've gone through a couple of different jobs. Right now I'm working as a courier for FedEx Express. Gas costs have made them cut back on hours, so I enlisted in the Air National Guard. It's good to be back in uniform. I'm hoping to be full-time before the year is out. I'm doing my same old job, communications, but now I'm working on the Predator UAV's. Very cool mission, and lot's of fun. This is the best thing I've done since getting LASIK.

I recorded and published an album. Search iTunes for "Floating Axehead" and you'll see it. Or email me at "floatingaxehead@me.com" and I'll send you a copy.

I did a short video on YouTube about just one of many reasons I think Obama is a bad choice. (Notice, I didn't say McCain was a good one. LOL.) Search YouTube for "Obama Hates My Family Heirloom". Anyhow, that snowballed into me hosting the Handgun Podcast each week. I'll be attending the Gun Rights Policy Conference at the end of this month, and hosting the Liberty Watch radio program on Oct. 12th.

I bought an iPhone a little while ago, and it truly is as cool as people say.

I have my own website at www.floatingaxehead.com where I maintain a blog more frequently than you can ever expect to find me here.

I just don't have the time to be on here a whole lot, even though I HERE I truly value and miss my friends. Even though I have Facebook and MySpace pages, I truly hate both of those sites and only maintain them to provide links for more Google-Fu to my own domain.

I mostly quit coming here because the site seemed to get so slow, and RvB quit being funny.

Ok, I think those are the high points...

It seems the Photobucket pictures were removed for last entry.... *shuffling through crap* This fool has made more than one premature "I'm back!" journal entry... *more digging through random junk* And he dresses funny...

Very well! I, then, am NOT Eric! My name is Juan Ignacio Humberto de la Springsteen.

      The third.

This account has been officially hacked and stolen! Mwahahaha!!!! And this is only the first step in my evil plans! Today I take over this profile- tomorrow the world!

...but once you get to know me, I'm sure you'll just call me "dick".

So I had a little run-in with this kid, regarding one of the pics I posted. Y'know, back when we could actually see each others' images.
      Picture2.png
      Picture1.png
And of course, being the smart-ass I am, I had to reply.
      Picture3.png

Anyhow, he later offered a sort-of apology in his journal entry.
Ok. Initially I thought I was going to apologize, but now I don't think I will. This is really for a very simple, reason. Any time you say "but", what you say next is what you really mean. Don't follow? Here, let me show you:

      e.g.
      1. Those pants dont make your ass look huge, but...
      2. I don't think my comment was appropiate, but...
      3. I'm sorry I said Canadians were idiots, but...

See? Using "but" in an apology is just an excuse for an excuse! So instead, I will simply point out some things that irritate me:

Bad grammar, punctuation, and lack of capitalizing sentences.
Is this the internet, being 17, or being Canadian?

Whining that me pointing out Canadian-osity makes me extremely prejudiced.
Again, done with incorrect grammar, and whining makes you sound like a pussy.

Misuse of the word "disposition", which reflects one's inherent qualities.
You're trying to sound intelligent and failing. The word you wanted was position, or opinion.

Excessive use of the F-word in previous journals.
Try giving adjectives and adverbs a shot.

Journals pining for the opposite sex.
Unless you're a chick, this is completely unforgiveable.
Even if you a chick, it's best not to take the chance.

Zealots for or against virtually any operating system or game console.
It's a free market economy, nimrods.

And now, my "Canadians are idiots" story. Much like "my experience with a mac was terrible" stories, this is just my experience. I've bitched and moaned about this before, in fact. See, while Devin Townsend is freakin' awesome, I only meet the morons, and they're usually the illiterate turds on eBay. For instance, the auction I ran for my old digital camera, with model number, description of aluminum case, and extras. Why does a Canadian feel the need to ask if the auction includes the camera? WTF?!?! And why are Canadians seemingly incapable of simply following the links I provide with shipping weights, and estimating postage? Every request for a shipping quote I have ever rcv'd has been from a Canadian. The British seem able to figure it out. I can't freaking stand the French, and they figure it out just fine! Plus, Canada gave us Bryan Adams! ARGH!

Now see, if I'd said "I'm sorry for insinuating that as a Canadian you're an idiot, but...", it would have invalidated my apology. So I think a much better solution would be for us to let bygones be bygones, and simply both agree that I'm an asshole.

And after haveing said all that, I would like to THANK terdyfergy for inserting an extra letter in my screen name to come closer to the proper spelling! No sarcasm here, folks! A Floating Axehead doesn't fit, but he did come closer and really didn't have to. Thanks! ^_^

    • Does RvB's server suck?

      FlotingAxhed

Seriously, ever since they switched to the 2.0, or 1.5 or whatever website, it's never been as dependable for me. But for the past two weeks I've been getting more timeouts, or (like now) a page will load with no user images (avatars, etc.). Yesterday or the day before I culdn't upload journals, comments on forum threads... I got the "Flood Control" message everytime, or was told the server was down again, but hey! You can buy our cool stuff!

      It's pretty frustrating.

So I'm kicking back, watching Tron on DVD and loving life. Keeping in theme with that...

My old VAIO laptop was named MCP.
My Gateway, running Ubuntu 6.06 is named Tron
My old iPod Shuffle was called Bit.

I'm thinking of getting a 4GB iPod Nano, in blue of course, and naming it Ram. Anyone have any good quotes to have laser engraved on the back?

And bonus question, for 5 mods: how do I change the name of my MacBook without any ill-effects? It just took the default name of Eric's Computer, and I need to get back inline with the rest! LOL.

    • Don Imus deserves a gold medal

      FlotingAxhed

Seriously. Nobody got lynched. We're not talking about somebody being denied a job based on skin color. There wasn't a beating, and nobody in whie bed sheets threatened anyone. Nobody DID anything.

We're crying like little kids in elementary school because somebody said something we don't like. I have a couple of thoughts on this, and then I'm going to attack Al Sharpton, who had Imus on his radio show and berated him on-air.

      1) We've come a long way as a country (and this is a good thing) when black people no longer fear physical violence and persecution simply because of their skin color. Now, in order for them to foster a victim's mentality they have to cry about what people say.

      2) I'm not saying Imus was justified, but happened to free speech? Why does the First Amendment only apply when you're Rosie O'Donnell, making claims that Christians are just as bad as Muslim extremists?
Free speech is not protection of the speech you love, but the speech you hate the most."
      -Larry Flynt

      3) As long as rappers say the things they do in their "music", and Chris Rock freely throws around the n-word as "comedy", then nobody has any cause to go after Imus in a witch hunt. Make sure your own house is clean first, so to speak.

      4) Admittedly, Imus would have been better off if he would've made a crack about lesbians, instead of ethnicity. Seriously, have you ever watch the WNBA? GLAAD doesn't have near the media pull of, say, Rainbow/Push. He'd have been better off picking on somebody he could beat easier, like when I pick fights with 3rd graders.

      5) Do we really have to take somebody's job/livelihood in order to teach him we don't like what he said? Don't you think he gets that by now?

      6) It must be a slow damn news day when all we've got to talk about was somebody who *gasp* SAID something! OMG!!! He said a dirty word! Ugh. C'mon. Isn't there a murder ANYWHERE in the country we could hear about instead?

      7) Al Sharpton asked Don Imus if he thought the word "jiggaboo" was funny. I sure hope I spelled that right, because I would have told Al I thought it was hilarious. It's such a silly-sounding word, and Sharpton lets himself get all bent out of shape over it. That makes it funnier. Al, why don't you ignore the inbred idiots that are babbling in baby-talk, and go have a talk with Chris Rock, first? Ok?

    • Grindhouse: Best AND Worst movie!

      FlotingAxhed

Ok, I went and saw Grindhouse with Kari, and I loved and hated it. The fake movie trailers, the intermission, crappy film grain (which is sometimes there, sometimes not)... It was awesome! And the first movie, Robert Rodriguez' Planet Terror was awesome. Rose McGowan was hot, it had Michael Biehn, Jeff Fahey, Bruce Willis, zombies, explosions... It was great! To be fair, I hated Marley Shelton (I think that was her), or whoever the irritating blond nurse was. Hated every scene with her in it, she was unneccessary, and anything resembling plot with her in sucked. Well, not really. It just never got used, so it was there for no good reason. Hot chick with a machine gun leg, zombies, and explosions, people! FREAKING GREAT! It had comedy! It had sex appeal! It had way over the top action! Two thumbs and my large erectile member way up!

Now, Kari's expecting me to rant and rave about how awful Tarantno's half was, so I'm not going to. I did hate it, don't get me wrong. I walked out of it! And while I'll go see Grindhouse again, I'll leave right when his half begins. But only because it's nothing new from him:
      1) Does it have a closeup of a girl's bare foot, for his fetish? Check.
      2) Does it have tough chicks who can take on men*? Check.
      3) Does it have TONS of dialogue that we're supposed to find funny? Check.

Dialog was boring, the girls were ugly, the ugliest one said "motherfucker" about 400 times and I got tired of it, the two female characters that were likable get killed or written out, there's almost no action 'cuz all these dumb bitches do is talk, Kurt Russel is hardly in it, feet are ugly and where fungus grows, if I ever meet a chick who thinks she's as tough as a man I'll punch her in the fucking throat just for kicks, and it was basically just because Tarantino wanted to show some stuntwoman named Zoe off to the world.

Even in a Grrl Power movie where they beat Kurt Russel (I don't care if I spoil it for you- it's shit anyway), all these stupid women can do for 95% of the movie is run their god-damned mouths. At least Tarantino made THAT PART just like real life.

...now- just imagine if I had gone off and RANTED about how much I hated it!
*I deeply believe Quentin Tarantino is actually a man-hating lesbian bull-dyke.

Go see it at a matinee, and be glad they put Robert Rodriguez' beautiful opus of blowing up zombies in front of the steaming pile of crap.

So I'm reading some random articles on Slashdot... Ok, not so random. I've become a complete Apple elitist, and I'm reading an article on the AAC/WMA format war, now that we're going to be able to buy music that's DRM-free.

...anybody know WTF we have so many abbr.'s for? Moving on...

Anyhow, during this article it kinda hit me why even when I was trying to be a Microsoft loyalist, I just didn't like it. And don't misunderstand me- I love my Xboxs, and really liked Windows Movie Maker so far better than iMovie.

...iDon't understand why iHave to have a stupid "i" in front of everything. iMac's started as internet Macs. Unless your device/program depends on it, GTFO...

But back to Windows, and why I just didn't like what I wanted to love. Needless, confusing redundancy. Or, simply unclear goals from the get-go. Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger? Hotmail or Livemail? WTF is PlaysForSure, why doesn't it work, and why did Windows quit doing it? Internet Explorer... well that one should be self-explanatory and if you don't understand why then you shouldn't bother reading this anymore! MSN home pages that try to by MySpace. MSN home search pages that are ad-laden, have a bazillion buttons, are needlessly complicated or just don't work well. Hell, MSN ISP?

I don't mean for this to be M$ bashing. I just think it's a piss-poor way to run a company. I'll take Firefox and OpenOffice over a Redmond product any day of the week. But it's not just M$. I love Ford cars, but they're doing the same thing. Re-badge the same damn car, and sell it as a Lincoln or a Mercury. WTF? Hey Ford, wanna get out of bankruptcy? Try making an engine that'll actually keep pace with a Honda, rather than different trim levels for boring sedans!

Same goes for Microsoft. No matter what one thinks of the XP/Vista/OSX fight, this MacBook is undoubtedly the best piece of hardware I've laid hands on. Simple. Elegant. An OS and software bundle I can USE!* I still use Firefox and OpenOffice, btw. But I just think if Redmond weenies would focus on fewer stellar products, rather than hundreds of mediocre ones, I wouldn't be wiping an old Gateway laptop for use as an Ubuntu machine...

*I think I've finished the album. I've got a few copies "out in the wild", and I want to get some feedback before I release it. May record one more song. And I used my Mac.

Just jumping through insurance hoops for the bike right now. Hoping to get another one soon- I filled up the tank on my truck the other day... Ouch! Talk about missing my bike!

In very small, unrelated news. For whatever reason, I've finally been firing up the 360 again these days. And I see that Craig's Gamerscore is way higher than mine. I must rectify this! LOL. Seriously, I wanted to get my Gamerscore comparable to his (or better), but the games I'm interested in will take so long for the achievments that I don't think it will ever happen.

Have you seen the achievement list and how long they take for DOA: Xtreme2? Yowza!

And while I like Lego Star Wars II as a cute, harmless game, I HATE the camera, vehicle levels, and sometimes my AI controlled counterparts. ARGH!

It's true that in the original cartoon each transformer looked like his vehicle counterpart in robot form, but I always believed this was flawed, especially when watching the first episode. What the hell is Bumblebee doing looking like a WV Beetle in robot mode if he transforms into something else entirely there on cybertron, and if he's never seen or heard of such a vehicle in such a distant unknown planet called earth? At least with these new robot modes, they look like they could have transformed into something else back on cybertron... hell, I think they may have even gone as far as changing their cybertronian robot forms even more so they don't look like their earth vehicles at all, and only maintain a few defining characteristics to tell them apart (like optimus' face plate and helmet, for example).

      My two cents. smiley0.gif

      "I just HATE having 101 install/driver CDs"
You're thinking windows 98. =P With XP, you've got 3 CD's; windows, motherboard, videocard. Maybe sound card and tv tuner if you're building an HTPC.

"I'm talking about bought-off-the-shelf. As a Windows user you HAVE to build it to get a decent machine."
You're just not looking on the right shelves. True, budget PCs are over marketed and under built, but we've already agreed that you average web surfer won't need the performance a PC can offer, and is best off with a mac. =P Many retailers offer quality "well built" off the shelf machines.

"As for a Mac being useful... This seems to be another confusing area for people. Because Windows lovers love to insult the Mac OS as a "toy", before realizing the OS just allows us peons to use the programs. Those aren't toys."

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, but since you bring up the word "programs"... is there a single killer app for macs? No, everything you can do on a Mac, you can do better on a quality PC. =P

Now, I'm not trying to argue that macs aren't useful. I've already said that macs are the single best option for your average web, IM and itunes user. But they're just so limited in performance and functionality beyond common tasks, people like me have no choice but to use windows, or at least emulate it on a linux system.

Ubuntu is pretty easy. I came across another distro, FreeSpire that is just amazing, and incredibly simple.
I would recommend checking it out. Also, be wary about any new hardware your putting one of the big distros on.
You said that it was an old gateway. Most of the modern Linux distros are similar to XP that they are graphics
intensive and relatively large. You can install a stripped down version, well - cause it's Linux! :-) - but you will
not see all the pretties and have all the functionality.

"Is this game available for Wii Virtual Arcade? Or are you playing on the 64? They did a good job bringing it over to the DS and adding 30 more stars without it seeming forced... Except for having to play as Yoshi. I hate that $^#%@^er.

Seriously. Play drunk. It's way better. Just tell your parents "it's for a research project at school", pound a bottle of NyQuil, and go for it."

      1. 64

You've just made me so unreasonably happy!

It will include no actual game music. All the game content is merely thematic.

"My edit of Star Wars Episode I is only 7 minutes long. It begins normally, gets all the way until Obi-Wan says "I have a bad feeling about this", and then BOOM! Roll the end credits.

Srsly, it's a way better movie now."

Can I verify that it is only 7 minutes until that line?

"There's nothing like using a Gibson Flying V as a baseball bat to smack an asteroid back into outer space! "

      I thought it was a gibson V, a rickenbaker 4004 and a satellite?

"...or maybe I just hate Russel Crowe, and question Ridley Scott."

Trust me, THAT is the reason. 300 is definitely worth watching just for the gore. I mean, that's all the movie really has going for it, but still, there's at least 35 minutes of just bloodshed.

edit: I should mention, it's very creative bloodshd

Yes, I would so love to see SMG cooked and eaten....I never watched Buffy due to her, but I did watch Angel, b/c Whedon is a good writer, and those are goods shows....I just cant stand that bitch.

      Um, yeah. Me neither."

Well how else do you evict someone without losing all that furniture? The only option is starve them to death.

Now if only I could learn from OTHER people's fucking mistakes and avoid my own to begin with! Then I'd really be on to something! lol.

Vicarious learning is a beautiful thing.

Yeah, I know. They hammered that statistic into us in the Motrcycle Safety class. I'm just the dumbass that thought they were gonna beat the odds.

For the record, running Mt Lemmon's tight corners at 70mph was probably not the best starting block for avoiding a crash.

I'm glad you at least learn from your mistakes, even if they were illogical to begin with.
