      I know some people envision a world or scenario better when they have some form of art or images to reference off of. These images are NOT my own images. They are from various games, genres, and other forms of media. These images are here mostly to help with visuals and give you a general idea for how things look.

      EssenceStoryBanner1Fin.png

      In an alternate reality to Earth, there is a power source within Earth that has come to be referred to as the Life Force, or the "Essence." Throughout history, the world has grown and evolved in a way very similar to that of our current reality... however, weapons are not created quite the same, or used the same, as we are accustomed to in our reality. In Alternate Earth (A.E.), the Essence itself must be used if someone is intent on taking another life. Whether said life is an animal for feeding or a person they dislike, weapons must be formed by means of using the very energy from the Earth itself. Things like gunpowder, lasers, etc. have been created much like in Our Reality (O.R.), except they are used differently than they are in O.R.--at least they were, until space travel was discovered.

      In A.E., since so few countries were fighting amongst one another due to the effects of taking a life by use of the Essence, technology advanced much quicker due to a far lasting peace throughout nations. In A.E., the technology is thousands of years more advanced than O.R. Because of this, space travel was accomplished some time in the early 1000's, thus allowing greater accomplishments within space-including the discovery that the Essence does not apply beyond Earth. Everything beyond Earth is completely untouched by the effects of the Essence, thereby allowing weapons to use bullets, lasers, rockets, etc. It goes without saying that major criminal organizations have spread to other planets within the Milky Way because they are able to avoid the effects of the Essence when killing another person.

      Yes, the Essence is as destructive to the user as it is to the one being killed. To take a life while using an Essence-bound weapon will result in a personal loss from the killer. Upon killing another individual, the Earth will recognize a scar upon your soul, almost like a death mark or a kill toll, causing the killer to age a number of years based on the amount of deaths they have committed. One kill causes the killer to age roughly ten years... so if you are twenty years old and take the life of another person, you will appear as though you are thirty years old. This has made it easier to figure out who is a murderer and who is not, but since the Essence is bound only to Earth, criminals are able to avoid the deadly effects by living on other planets or within stations dedicated to their organizations. One such organization is well known throughout the galaxy... known as the PARASIN CORPORATION.

      The Parasin Corporation is responsible for countless deaths and horrific acts against living creatures. Rumors spread far and wide that the masterminds of the Parasin Corporation must appear to be hundreds of years old... because the Parasin Corporation creates warehouses where hundreds, if not thousands of innocents are all put to sleep and placed into Vampire Cells, as the nickname goes. These poor souls literally have their Essence, their Life Force, sucked from them very slowly... and since they are all asleep, they cannot fight the effects. These warehouses have been discovered time and time again by the Earth Protectorate Federation (E.P.F.), which is made up of both military and police groups all seeking to keep things safe. Despite the discovery of these warehouses and often very thorough searches, no supply depots or 'fuel stations' have been found. In other words, the Life Force taken from these innocents seems to disappear into thin air. Whether it goes somewhere else or is sucked away from long distance is a subject of much debate. The world knows about the Parasin Corporation, but most civilians are unable to do anything about them. The E.P.F. are constantly on watch... so much to the point where the E.P.F. constructed a massive space station that encircles the planet to protect it from possible Parasin Corporation ship attacks or invasions. The station has been given the name, "Equato Station" because it is located in a position equal to where the equator would be on Earth.

      Equato Station is a masterpiece in military design. It has canons for safeguarding the planet and the station on various hull locations. There are advanced radar sensors that can detect incoming ships from half the distance between Earth and Mars. It has various docking ports with all kinds of security measures to prevent illegal weapons from being taken on board and it has security cameras and backup systems in every district of the station. The station is split into various districts based on times in the world, and the time can be detected based on the color of the lights... blue means close to night, black is night, bright white is day, and so forth. This station is as much a military station as it is a home away from home for the soldiers stationed here. Equato Station is where the story would begin, and where the players will start.

      Despite the creation of Equato Station, Earth hasn't received very many attacks from Parasin ships. Occasionally, a Parasin vessel will appear and try to attack, but it will dart away almost immediately and return into the blackness of space. It is believed that the Parasin are planning something big, which has put a lot of soldiers on edge. Tensions are high, suspicious activities are taking place all over the world, and the people responsible for the Parasin Corporation are nowhere to be found. An E.P.F. ship, the "S.V. Inquest" has been sent to try to locate the Parasin Corporation's main base of operations. Disguised as a Parasin ship, the people on board Equato Station wait eagerly to hear from the Inquest, hoping that they will be met with success. Hopefully, this bug can be squished before something terrible happens.

      EssenceEndingBanner1.png

      <===> Frequently Asked Questions <===>

      The questions for this role play will be both questions I have actually been asked and questions I think I will be asked.

      < Question >
      Why do criminals avoid Earth and stay in space?

      < Answer >
      Because upon returning to the planet, the Earth will see how many death marks you have on your soul and most criminals drop dead on the spot because of the aging that ensues.

      < Question >
      Is there a Moon Base?

      < Answer >
      No. The Moon serves basically as a massive radar dish. There are all kinds of defenses and radar dishes on the Moon, serving as a backup to defenses should the Equato Station fail in its duties. It also works as a substitute for satellites.

      < Question >
      If special powers exist, why can't our characters have special powers?

      < Answer >
      Because there's always the risk of God Gaming and players abusing their abilities. The only characters with special powers are people that are NPCs and add a major element to the progress of the story.

      < Question >
      Can I be an Otherkin as a race?

      < Answer >
      Yes. This is the future, which means alien races are allowed. Humans WILL be present within the story, so you should at least be willing to role play with them. Races such as furries, aliens, orcs, elves, etc. are allowed. However, I will not allow things like angels, demons, vampires, werewolves, etc.

      < Question >
      Do you allow weapons like buster blades, lightsabers, and other kinds of weapons from other media?

      < Answer >
      No. You can have a weapon that has similar qualities, but not exact. This isn't Star Wars or Final Fantasy or any other kind of popular well-known media... this is a story in an alternate Earth.

      < Question >
      I'm having some trouble understanding some of this stuff. Is there any reference material I can relate to with this role play story?

      < Answer >
      Yes. For the whole 'using the life force to kill people' thing, think of that Avatar movie where they say "All energy is borrowed and must be given back someday." This is why people that kill other people age more--because those who perform wicked deeds will meet their demise faster than others. And the whole 'forming the Essence into a weapon' thing is like Conjuration Magic from Skyrim.

      < Question >
      If I need to deal with Real Life, will my character be killed off or left behind?

      < Answer >
      No, absolutely not. I understand that Real Life tends to interfere with our online lives. If I fail to see an update from you within 1 month from your last post, I'll assume something has happened. Instead of just being dumped off somewhere, your character will continue to go along for the ride... but they will likely be away from all of the interesting stuff and basically sitting on the bench. Upon returning, you can jump back in... but at least give me a heads up in private message before doing so.

      < Question >
      If the Essence kills people slowly for killing other people, how have wars been fought on Earth?

      < Answer >
      Tactics. You can influence a building to fall on someone and not get the Essence penalty for it. Much like if a Lumberjack were chopping away at a tree and the tree fell on a person, it would be a complete accident and therefore he'd be free of the Essence effects.

      < Question >
      So then why hasn't the world gone to all out war and destroyed all kinds of structures?

      < Answer >
      Because in war movies we see now, people don't think much of property damage - just killing off enemies. If, however, property damage was the ONLY way to kill someone without suffering the effects of the Essence, you're looking at a LOT of money going into repairs and such. This would lead to economical strife and the world basically wouldn't have advanced as well as it has in the story. If you have the intelligence to know how to trap someone in a tumbling building, you know the effects the world would suffer from multiple wars.

      < Question >
      I forgot to list a power / my weapon / gear / whatever in the character sheet and I want to use it in the role play. Can I add that power to the list?

      < Answer >
      If you send a character sheet to me, you better make sure you have everything planned out ahead of time in terms of what gear you want to have. If we come to a point in the role play where a hand grenade would be useful, but no characters have a hand grenade... you can't suddenly say "Hey can I have a hand grenade in the story?" It would be cheap and unfair to the other players, and it would throw the story off balance. In other words, no. If you forget to list something in your character sheet before the role play starts, you don't get it.

      < Question >
      Can I at least request specific equipment for my character after the role play has started?

      < Answer >
      You can certainly request it, but that doesn't mean I'll hand it to you on a silver platter. You may need to wait a few posts (or even pages in some cases) before you get what you asked for, assuming I give it to you at all. In other words: If you request something for your character after the role play has started, you see it as nothing more than a request. It's not a demand and you're not entitled to such things.

      Rules & Terms

      <===> Table Of Contents <===>

      (1) Rules
      (2) Terms

      <(1)> Rules <(1)>

      When you fill out your character sheet, you send it to me in a private message. None of that 'posting it for everyone to see' stuff. The player characters in this role play will get to know each other by means of role play, not by reading a character sheet. This ALSO means that player characters will face challenges and you will need to role play your fears and weaknesses within the actual role play. This means other player characters will get to know your character more through the role play, as I've said before.

      Keeping in mind the general Rooster Teeth forum rules, the rest of the rules for this role play mostly pertain to common sense. Don't be a jerk and you won't get booted.

      Too Long; Didn't Read (TL;DR) will not be tolerated with this role play. If you don't read everything that's been written, you will miss out on key details and you will be ejected from the role play if you choose to do such a thing. If you can't be arsed to read a paragraph of text at the current time, then leave and come back when you can read a paragraph.

      There WILL be a posting order. In other words, it won't go Greg, John, Max, Ted, Greg, Ted, Greg, Ted, Ted, Max, etc. It will go Greg, John, Max, Ted, Greg, John, Max, Ted, Greg, John, Max, Ted, etc. This helps to avoid confusion and helps me maintain fairness and the story elements. This also means I can monitor the activity of the person who's supposed to be next in line for posting.

      If you fail to post within 1 month's time, your character will NOT be left behind, but will instead become an NPC until you return. If you return and wish to return to the role play, you MUST private message me and wait until I reply to begin role playing again. Don't just come back after 2 months and decide you want to play again.

      Other than that, the rules are pretty straight forward. Behave, don't try to hijack the story and make it about you, and follow the rules already laid out in the forum. Also, absolutely no special powers! IE: Psychic abilities, shooting lasers from your eyes, etc. You can have cybernetics, but not just be naturally able to do these things. We're not in an X-Men RP.

      <(2)> Terms <(2)>

      This isn't so much a "Terms Of Use" section, but more of words I want people to become familiar with so that when they participate in the role play, they are aware of things that I will be cracking down on.

      <===> God Gaming <===>
      Also known as God Modding, I prefer to call it God Gaming because it's easier to remember with the other terms here. God Gaming is basically when you give your character super powers or abilities that make your character over powered and unfair. If your character can move a mountain with his mind at will, then you're God Gaming.

      <===> Meta Gaming <===>
      Meta Gaming is basically mind reading. Knowing a player character's background, name, age, etc. without having learned about the person through role play is Meta Gaming. An example would be if you approached someone with a cloak and hood covering their entire body, and you said to them, "Hey Jerry, nice brown hair." If you read in their character sheet that they are named Jerry and had brown hair, you got this information from a place that wasn't the RP itself, which means you're meta gaming.

      <===> Power Gaming <===>
      Power Gaming is when you take direct control over another player's character to make them do something. 9/10 of the time when you encounter another player, they'll have put a good amount of effort into planning their character and their character will be less interested to do certain things, such as jumping off a cliff. If you, as a player, decide to make a response to a role play, you cannot take control of another person's character. In role play, the only thing you, as a player, have any control over is your character and what they currently have on them. If you throw a knife, you can't decide where it lands because you don't have it on you anymore. If you are standing next to another person, you can't have that person walk down a hallway with you because you don't control that player's character. Now granted, you can certainly bump into people or tug on their shoulder... but don't take control of another person's character and have them jump off a cliff with you because it's what you want them to do. The player in control of their character gets to decide what their character does-not you!

      <===> Character Balance <===>
      When filling out a character sheet for my role play, you will be giving your character fears and weaknesses as well as strengths. The fears and weaknesses must be equal or greater to that of your character's strengths. This is what they call Character Balance. Your character MUST be balanced in this role play, so start thinking of stuff that might scare your character, like spiders or heights.

      Hey folks,

      Due to having no life and too much free time, I put this website together. It's a basic Freewebs website, but this is a good way for members to find each other alphabetically, find people who have similar interests in game types, and party up. This website also has a calendar, so if you guys want to schedule a gaming night event, just send me a message.

      Anywho, this is the website I put together. Please, for the love of God, if you want to include your Gamer Tag information, read the instructions on the main page.

      Hey folks,

      Since this group is still in it's early stages, I want to see if we get more members prior to setting up gaming events and nights and such. For all I know, someone else could make a group that is for the same purpose, but becomes more popular. Either way, I want to wait until we get more people before events are scheduled.

      That being said, however, feel free to post your gamertags and invite people to play games here and there.

    • Non Profit Organization - Tips?

      in Forums > Non Profit Organization - Tips? | Follow this topic

      GrayForce

      Hey everyone,

      Very recently, I felt like my life was going nowhere. I can't go to college, due to some health factors, and I don't have the correct job requirements for some of the jobs I have always wanted to be a part of. In light of all this, however, I remembered an idea I had when I was 15 (am now 22).

      I want to start a Non Profit Organization that will assist autistic (disabled) adults in the community by giving them a place to socialize. Many will not know this, and many more don't care, but when an autistic or disabled child is released from the school system, by graduation or some other form, they are left with nothing in terms of socializing with people out in the community, so much like myself, they will seclude themselves in the comfort of their own homes and do as they please within the house. This is the same thing with, I'm sure, many (not all) World of Warcraft addicts and Console Players.

      I have been doing research to learn to understand the process for starting a non profit, such as where to do so, how to get the money to support such a project, etc. But I wanted to see what some of the folks on Rooster Teeth's forums might have as input for me? Anything you guys might know that will possibly assist me in the future?

      Please don't try to tell me "Don't make a non profit", because something I've learned in the past is... when it comes to following a dream, you don't take "no" for an answer.

      So with all that in mind, does anyone have any tips they would be willing to share? Or perhaps some websites that would provide me with helpful information?
