So it's been a year since I've done of these. The Army had led me on an interesting trail so far from flying crunchies to becoming a different kind of pogue. Besides, MPs are basically Cav which is basically Infantry.

Work has brought me back homish to GA.

Waiting to see where it leads, chances are high it'll be more office stuff. Regardless, curious to see where work leads me now. I'm having to figure out my future still now that everything has changed. Still not sure if I even want to stick to LE after I get out/if/when I get out. Which reminds me that when I was forced out of aviation I was supposed to add another couple years to my time. But instead my time stayed the same or reduced (I'm still trying to figure out what it was supposed to be, because half the other stuff on that specific Army form is incorrect.)

      Taser video

Been looking into different levels of federal LE, to going so far as thinking of resigning my commission and putting in a packet to go CID as a warrant. Even looking at the just plain civilian business environment.

      Just keep swimming.

This Friday, I'll finally get to fly a Blackhawk. More than a year after I embarked on this journey...some speed bumps and stuff along the way but that's life.

I think if I could warn myself a year ago it would have been to prepare mentally for continuing school and not trying to shut my brain off after college until I go back to get my masters in a few years (which is how I came here burned out from college). It's called flight school for a reason. And looking at a training schedule is deceptive, today I was only scheduled from 0700-1215. Add all the time in a classroom, library, simulator though and I had a 15hr day. Just like yesterday. Just like tomorrow will be.

I've been pretty busy, and haven't been making things easy for myself.

The short version is I dodged a bullet and my ex college sweetheart left me before I got more emotionally or financially involved.

During my last phase of training I'd run into armeav8r regularly, now its much more boring.

The instructor pilots like him were some of the most varied and colorful bunch you'd imagine. From young civilian only guys that work for the contractor teaching army aviators now, to apparently them having an instructor who has been teaching since before we landed a man on the moon (they weren't joking, we asked). I had one IP who had been with 160th since before it was the 160th. The only stuff we could get out of him was that he had 8 people on his littlebird one time, and that there was one time he had so much brass in his chin bubble he was struggling to make pedal inputs.

Been amusing myself lately with the little bit of free time I have hashing on the occasional weekend, and I've got a KWA PTP M9 that I've been using as my main means of training since I can't make it to a range (much less have the money to shoot) lately.
It was one of my depression/don't need an engagement ring anymore purchases...

      Fun times.

      RoughSexOverTime.png
Needless to say I had a pretty boring 3 day weekend and spent too much time on the internet.

Starting "Field Week" of training tomorrow which is a misnomer because really it just means we are doing a bunch of administrative convoys to m16/m9 ranges culminating in one tactical lane on Friday, no patrol base, no sleeping in a bivy, and most days training should be complete by around 1500. Should be pretty amusing when my peers and I make it to SERE and shit gets real... Which if my schedule remains unchanged I should be in during my first spring break out of college.

I made a reputation for myself the other day after our M16 PMI. We followed up with dime drills, and I manged to get it on my second try -while standing. I will admit I was using a really cheese-dick bulls-eye stance that I wouldn't use anywhere other than a static range, but still wowed my squad who struggled to get it prone with several of them having to put the dime on the barrel and not the cleaning rod.

Been sooo busy lately, with projects and everything going on trying to finish.

Had some interesting stuff lately like having Colonel Ralph Puckett come to our school to give a speech on "The Infantryman's Perspective on Vietnam". He told some pretty amusing stories from Vietnam like once he got in country he found the unit he was to replace/augment and asked the commander of the unit if he could go on patrol with the men and the commander replied "Don't get yourself killed." To which Puckett replied "That's my primary objective." While on that patrol the 2LT leading it walks up to him and says "Sir may I make a statement, I'm lost." To which Puckett fired back "Well I don't take command of this unit for 10 days, you have 9 days to find yourself."

So with my commissioning coming up my mom started sending out invitations/announcements to people my dad knew and other family friends. Well one of the people she sent an invite to was a guy that my mom knew as Jeff Smith. His dad was an instructor at Ohio that trained my dad and while my dad was a senior at OSU my dad helped train to train him to go to ranger school...well I finally got around to googling him and had an oh shit moment when I realized that he is the the current CG of cadet command and Fort Knox. Apparently I now have the highest ranked man in cadet command coming to administer my oath and pin me.

Had my graduation ceremony earlier, still have 4 finals to go, commissioning ceremony in a week, 2 weeks to Christmas (less than halfway done on shopping), 3 weeks to a new year, and about a month til I report on active duty to Ft. Rucker.

So I'm sitting here watching the Swedish women's soccer team when I should be packing (last minute road trip to Ohio to get some stuff that our family got after my grandmother passed that other family members have been holding onto) and I can't wait for beach volleyball unless this rule makes things boring.

On a positive note I managed to get girlfriend in April before the exodus of cute college girls in May. Between her, work, working out, drinking, and Call of Duty have made my Summer eventful.
Did I mention that despite her dad being a 27 year veteran (NCO) of the Army, her likes me (cadet/future officer)...like enough that her parents invited me to go with her to their condo in Panama City Beach for free this Summer...twice. My now divorced oldest brother once told me "Happy wife, happy life." Don't know how well that worked out for him, but there is certainly a corollary to that law for girlfriends and their parents.

We have a family day event for each flight once. 8 flights in primary, 8 weeks in primary = 1 family day per week. We had a family day in Viking flight about 2 weeks ago.

Who are your friends and what flight are they in?

Find me. Got my # from facebook? Or hit my conus email. If you're standing next to me at 1315 Thursday, you stand a 50/50 chance of getting on. I have 90 chutes and am not confident that they'll all get filled. Bring a copy of your orders just in case. As usual, ACH, ID card, dog tags, and camelbak required. Delivery of beer upon delivery to Sicily DZ is recommended. TOT 1900.

To find me, drive south on Gruber. When you're approaching the division water tower (the one next to HQ) and see the concrete steps up the hill on your right, turn left into the first parking lot. You should be facing east with the division water tower to your 6 o'clock. As you pull into the parking lot, look in the large field on the left. You should see people forming up. Look for the angry short-timer major...or find the primary jumpmaster. Either one is me.

No promises, but there's a chance.

If this jump doesn't get scratched for me, so that I can take part in recovery ops (roll eyes) since we just came out of the field, this will make for one heck of a RvB connection-

    • Havoc1

I could have told you that. EVERY first jump in Division is daytime Hollywood. I'll be there as a primary jumpmaster. Will know which chalk after the air brief tomorrow 1300. Will look for you.

1st beer is on me, and if you need a place to crash, you have it. My change of command should be o/a 1AUG, and if I'm not jumping into Reno for the convention, I'll be working on clearing the house up for PCS rental.

3-73 isn't the 505th, but I guess it'll have to do! My XO is from that BCT. Should I have him lay some groundwork for you? smiley0.gif

Well, since i will be staying in a cabin, and just day hiking, I won't have to ruck much of the weight. I imagine I will take things beside's MRE's, but I want the calories, in case something happens, like I get injured and stranded while hiking, or something like that... I wanna have at least 2-3 in my backpack to maintain my calorie intake. I really plan on catching or hunting for my main source of food, but that can be unreliable, and I would like to have a meal every day, lol.

I mean, its a long ways away, and I am sure i will do some more research beforehand though.

Joe fucking rocks! I got mine Wednesday after ordering late Friday afternoon. 2 business days and a wake-up. Great dude. Too bad he only sells Garmin and Aimpoint stuff, because I'd direct as much of my business as possible to him with customer service like that.

Unfortunately, I think the stupid chest strap from my Forerunner301 isn't compatible because it won't pick it up. It'll be a bummer and really ruin the deal money-wise if I have to spring for another, and $60 according to the Garmin website is fucking ridiculous. I'll fiddle with it more tomorrow. Easy as pie to input/edit waypoints. We'll see how it does on finding them tomorrow night. I'll compare with my AN/PSN-13A DAGR from time to time if I have the opportunity. I'm still a map/compass/dead-reckoning type of guy, but this is a pretty handy backup.

Check out the jumpmaster feature. I didn't even know about that. Kinda funny though, when I tried to tell it I'm jumping static at 800ft AGL tomorrow, it wouldn't accept it. 1,000ft is the limit! Not that a feature like that is too important for low static line jumps. It's much more HALO/HAHO oriented.

bloodlust would have been getting caught up in it and firing on the wounded man before the van arrived

This is false. The word "bloodlust" is defined simply as "desire for bloodshed." It is not an uncontrollable killing frenzy.

Marketing, Accounting, management, Idk what MSAL and ITDS are but I'm going to assume the first one is military science? I'm taking marketing this semester too so if you need help i might be able to help some. If you're good with numbers accounting is easy just learning a format and more formulas with dollar signs in front of the numbers. Management. Lol I love management classes but they get tedious. Depending on what level it is i may be able to help if you need it. Idk though it's been a while since I've taken a management class...

I like it, but it definitely has its application, and shooting at targets past 100 yards is not that application. I mounted a Reflex II on the CQBeast, but I think I like the triangle reticle on the Reflex I. Maybe I'll get ahold of one of those and zero it in, too.

Yeah we got thundersnow down in columbus- we got a good 6 on the northside of the city and it stuck-

Icey roads+snowstormyness+inexperienced young driver+heavy FWD Taurus= me freaking out a couple of times for like 3 seconds where I turned the wheel and the car kept going in the direction it was...

I did a brake check in my subdivision in the ~1.5" or so of slush, and my Toyos held on tight, so I wasn't too worried.

I tried that. Yesterday she jumped at the sight of swiss cheese or velveeta and was up my butt til I gave it to her. But today she would just look at it and put her head back down. I got her to take it but it took me about an hour before she would. She seems better at night because now she's much better.

I hated the intro computer course. And not just because it's my major and I was utterly bored. It was idiotic and ridiculously basic.

I LOVED the law course. Granted the professor was really energetic and kept us interested, but I learned a lot about laws and stuff that I thought I knew but I found out I was wrong.
