Finished up Air Assault a few days ago. It was more fun than expected.
In phase 1 we got a CH47 ride flying contour around the Hudson valley- It was pretty ninja, certainly see why armeav8r does it- Apparently the academy has money to spend because we had aircraft for every phase- I'll tell there aren't words to describe looking up and all you can see in your field of vision is the belly of a blackhawk, and your adrenaline slow time down that you can almost feel the rotors pushing with every blast while you try and sling a hook on there and hope your partner has the static probe on the cargo hook-
Lessons learned while at AAS: 1) chinook exhaust is hot, move quickly at an angle, hot enough that if people cluster up and don't go up the ramp the lenses on your goggles will get all wavy 2) Dannon strawberry banana yogurt drinks give the most pleasant burps ever 3) possuming while doing a combat loaded lock-in on a rappel is only a little un-nerving 4) over head arm claps make baby jesus cry 5) make sure you bound away when doing rappels from aircraft, its kind of disconcerting to not get your brake arm enough out and just flop into the lip of the helicopter and pinch your hand between the rope and the helicopter while 90 feet up

Apparently the union that does the contract work on Camp Smith has been on strike for 6 months. So we had no air conditioning in the barracks. The only girls that lasted in the course were kind of mannish. We'd alternate between eating MREs all day to getting to eat in the DFAC. We also had 2 washers, no dryers, and a random heat wave of 90% humidity rolling through the Hudson valley.

      It almost felt like home.
Got 2 videos of graduation, one is of us getting dropped one last time, and the other is getting my second set of blood wings- My mom was on vacation at the same time visiting family in Ohio and New York and when my Grandma heard of my accomplishment she gave my mom a bayonet that I think my great Uncle carried in WW2 (if I read the date right) I'll look into it when I get a chance- and upload more pics if anyone here knows anything about bayonets-
About a week until I head to Alaska for more rucking and knots. No heat cat 5 to save me though.

So I just enjoyed my last weekend of freedom, next Saturday I'll fly out at o dark thirty to go to Air Assault.

One of my brother's college friends was moving back here after finish up his undergrad and grad degrees at Auburn- His father was chairman of Aflac Japan and we helped him move from his parents $5 million home to some apartments- To celebrate the occasion we had a party at my brother's house and his buddy invited a bunch of the international students from Auburn. So there was no shit a 2:1 ratio of Asian girls to guys at my brother's.
      tl;dr
Teaching Japanese girls how to funnel beer is fucking awesome.

Payment for helping him move was buying us lunch at a local Vietnamese joint-
Had steamed spring rolls and some other jasmine rice dish- the spring rolls however threw me for a loop. This is the closest I could find to describe it. Instead of being hard like normal egg rolls these were sticky to the touch and tasted good as hell with this spicy red stuff and peanut butter looking stuff-
      WE0724THAI.jpg

Bought this thing called an Archos 5 (250gb model), its like someone took an old hard drive ipod and combined it with a touch screen ipod touch- but of course minus all the Apple gayness- I figure I'm going log like 8000 miles of flying this summer I want something to amuse me, and I can keep this secured in my wall locker easier than a huge laptop, also I can skip the annoyances that TSA imposes for flying a laptop and shave a minute or so off of my screening

Been a while since I've written one of these it seems that at some point during finals or after I hit 100 days online. Been keeping surprisingly busy, doing nothing but working out and alternating reading my tacsop/ranger handbook/mountain handbook. Been toying around with my new Garmin Foretrex 401 some more, threw this together of a casual half marathon I ran at Relay For Life. Still haven't learned all the ins and outs of the features but I think this may be as big of a game changer to my fitness as the switch to real running shoes (Asics/Newtons)
      29094_1306831106975_1116450107_30712359_
running the wrong way, stopping and chatting, and walking in groups 4 wide should all be taserable offenses at Relay For Life. You can't see it well in this but on Garmins site the google map really shows how much I had to deviate on some laps because of stupid people-
Doing an 8 mile run tomorrow with some ROTC friends, should be the second time I get to really flesh the features out-

Grades are final now, and I did fairly well, worst was a D in Quantitative Analysis which I'll take as a win, the rest of my grades in the area of my degree are high enough to counter it out. If I had got any lower I would have had to retake the course and after last semester they were redesigning the course because so many students have had trouble with it to make it a 2 part course-

Trying to get my dads old bike in shape (tubes/tires/regrease/modern seat) to try and do a reverse sprint triathlon early next month on Fort Benning. I just couldn't bring myself to get my 24" huffy to use in a race... it seems that there is apparently a niche cult scene around these bikes- and I've managed to find a decent amount of information for a bicycle that is older than my oldest brother- (apparently I have a 1983 Trek 520) kinda crazy what all info there is on the web.
      83Trek7.jpg
Thats all I got going now

Why is it every time a group project rolls around the more like things seem like they will go good they go more so terribly awry- Like the smart white girl in the group misses 2 out of the 3 weeks we have to work on the project, because she had a cheer leading competition. And when I got the easiest tasking in the group (literally copy and pasted the canned information, and not add my own text to it, and just add some colors and formatting) and now I'm gonna have to cover down on the 3rd person in the group...

I got a good laugh this morning. Apparently the statute of limitations on adding people you pissed off in high school on facebook is more than 4 years. LOL, people take some stuff way too seriously...also am I the only one that wants to club a baby seal when someone uses the word except in regards to a friend request?

Once finals are done, all I have to do is learn knots and ruck march to prepare myself for Northern Warfare and Air Assault- Can't say that I'm looking forward to the train up for it but it'll sure beat school-

The more I think about this Summer the more I am dreading it. One of the guys from my ROTC unit was talking to me about Northern Warfare over the weekend at our Brigade FTX (all of the other schools in the south east e.g. mercer, uga, GA tech, auburn, U of Puerto Rico, etc) and he told me had some photos on his facebook from it. Fuck it looks cold.
      6013_156307808635_608803635_3544233.jpg?
The FTX sucked hard. I was fortunate enough to miss day land nav because I had a class couldn't miss (lest I fail Managerial Finance), found 4 of my 5 points at night before realizing I was 4 klicks south of the finish point and had 35 minutes...this pretty much set the tone for the level of suck for the weekend. Like them intentionally planning hurry up and wait like waking up at 0445 for a formation at 0530 to wait for trans at 0730...

School is gonna suck for the next couple of weeks as things start winding down, semesters should be easier after this when I won't be taking 19 credit hours every time.

Nothing new, here. Staying busy with school- since I don't work anymore my only source of money is scholarship which does little more than pay for school. Still no luck in getting contracted with ROTC so no money there, but apparently they can't pay me but they can send me to the Northern Warfare Training Center in Alaska to freeze my nuts, ruck over a mountain and then a glacier, and in the meanwhile tie a metric fuckton of knots for a few weeks this Summer. Potentially going to Air Assault school as well, that one is still up in the air and my slot hasn't been confirmed by our cadre.

Gonna spend the majority of the weekend competing on Ft. Benning in the Army Marksmanship Unit's All Army Small Arms Competition in the pistol class under the cadet division again this year. Should be another good learning experience and another opportunity to immerse myself with the real Army and not just be networking with other cadets (which is normally the case for our brigade level FTXs)

Had my first legitimate accident in my 5 years of driving about a week ago- learned that sliding on ice is different than hydroplaning- lost control of the car and the rear end went into the other lane so I tried steering into the direction of the slide and at some point my rear tires (was driving my mom's mustang at the time) caught and I went straight forward (diagonally across the road and in the ditch), my windshield got battered by the branches of one tree, and after dropping in the ditch there was a 4 foot rise to the fence I hit this smull spur of dirt that had my tires go up and direct me along the ditch (which snatched the steering wheel I was still holding straight and hurt my wrists like a mother) rather than straight into the wall- got pulled out by a guy with a truck and some webbing- sadly as he was pulling me out the cops showed up and wrote up the report- so far the only damage we've spotted is that the front right rim is scratched, and dinged in one spot and there was grass stuck in there that made the tire go flat- I was going no more than 35 mph but from the neighborhood down to the bridge is a hill and that aided me in sliding uncontrolled
      wreck.jpg?t=1266587844
Took the opportunity to play with my gun in the snow and try and do some artsy fartsy stuff with the contrast of the EBR and bright snow-
      P2120134.jpg?t=1266588076
This is my favorite shot of all that I took-

Just realized its been a month since my last journal and tonights drinking shenanigans ended with me at home- 3 nights in a row of drinking mind you ;)

      1) suck it Texas A&M
      2) thank god Georgia football is over... please go away now Cox

My new years plans got all fucked up- options are go to a keg party that a friend (that I don't know) of several of my ROTC friends is throwing, or just end up mooching and doing whatever my brothers do- I had intended to go to a party with a bunch of ROTC friends (but they decided today its not gonna happenicon_rolleyes.gif?t=1262222930) and drag an old friend from high school thats been to Iraq and then got dragged with one of the 20somethings MEU down to Belize to teach their Army how to be a better knuckledragger and is on leave only to go to Afhganistan in 6 months...

Anywho went shooting at my buddy's stepmother's parent's property- dragged my mom out there as well- so should have some amusing video of her and my brothers shooting my guns/and the rest of the arsenal we dragged out there- expect pictures/videos sometime in 2010

skip to bottom to pass girl drama...
As my luck has it I almost had a girl and then things spontaneously went awry (not by my own doing). So there is this girl a puerto rican girl who I can barely understand that is friends with one of my ROTC buddies, so all throughout my semester of Marketing when she would occasionally turn around and look up in our general direction I assumed she was looking at my buddy Florez and I never said anything about because while this chick was kind of cute she was a little thick and I wasn't gonna knock my buddy for hitting it- well apparently she liked me and she decided to wait until the day of the final when I'm studying with said ROTC friends in the room the final will be in 30 minutes prior and asks me if I want to go study in the hall with her, sure fine whatever- so we study, I take the final, walk to the front hand it to the professor and proceed to the door at the top of the lecture hall and don't even make it halfway up the stairs before my leg starts vibrating- apparently this chick got my number from my buddy and has had it for an unkown time during the semester (note to the females in the world: quite trying to pretend to be subtle and make a move, this chicks all discombulated) anyway so I wait for her to finish, she's all like I have an international business final tomorrow want to help me study at the library (at this point I'm really starting to realize this chick wants me and my dry streak with the ladies might be over) I'm like sure whatever (I was just gonna dick around in the computer lab for 2 hours and pick my little brother up from high school up to help my mom out) so we go to the library and all the tables are full on the first floor of people studying in groups so we go upstairs to the individual study areas (a bunch of bean bags, over sized chair/love seat things, etc- and I sit on the only sofa and she drags a bean bag over and lays on it in front of me (around this point I realize at some point in the next week this chick will be on top of me) well after a few hours of studying and casual conversation I find out some interesting things: this chick tells me about her last 2 years worth of relationships..., she get a DUI last weekend (no car=fucking great), and some other stuff but hey whatever this chick likes me and has all but basically said she's looking for a hookup- well I eventually have to leave but for the last week and a half or so we've been texting and due to the fact that she's still in trouble with her parents and I'm not gonna ditch my family to go get some for the holidays we haven't hooked up- yet-
well I got a text from her the other day- (now this all supposedly, I don't know this chick enough to believe it or not) apparently some guy that she was talking to prior to the DUI tried calling her, but her parents had confiscated her phone at the time and he figured out her home number called it and her parent's answered and were magically like oh we've had you on enough restriction you can go out with this guy and this douche swoops in and my last 2 weeks of 673 text messages are for nothing. FML. and of course when I express digust about the situation via text the chick calls me a hater...

A bore snake in .308 is a must! You'd think I was whoring for Hoppe's, but I have one in every caliber I own and can't say enough good things about them.

By the way, I forgot to tell you about it the other day, but the Range Control guys go out to a range the first Sunday of every month. It's an open outing, so stop by the shop and ask if you can tag along to learn a bit.

Here's the directions to Hannahatchee WMA (click on "show original map view" for the actual useful map) where you can shoot from dawn til dusk every day but Monday. I recommend not taking any of the county roads shown on the map unless you're in something with some traction, because they're pretty muddy and slick if it's rained in the slightest. The landmark for the right turn off GA-27 is a water tower about 200m to your 11 o'clock and some odd shack at the end of an open field. You can just see a grass airstrip to your right as you turn off. If you go, bring your own targets, and maybe some cardboard backers. Definitely have a staple gun. I always brought cans, which is probably against the rules, but no one says anything.

Central Alabama Gun club is about 70 miles from Columbus, and they have IDPA and USPSA competition matches a couple times a month. It's like $15 to enter, and you'll learn more in a day than most people do in a year if you go there with an open mind and really take the time to talk to folks. Yeah, you'll run into dudes with $2000 race guns, but you'll also catch clowns like me who are just out there to develop and maintain their skills for shooting the only targets that truly matter: the ones that shoot back.

Finally, I can't recommend BRPC enough. Sure the hours can be confusing (just remember they're not open on Mondays or Wednesdays), but they'll sell you guns for cost plus 10%, you can't beat the price for the availability, and the guys who run the joint are all prior military and have forgotten more about shooting than you or I will likely ever learn. (Jim Graham was a LRRP in Vietnam...he's been around a bit) In addition, Ross Butler comes in and teaches courses in basic and intermediate tactical pistol and rifle from time to time, and for the money (like $100 a day), you can't beat it. He's a great guy, will answer any question, has a million stories, and is just generally cool to know. Plus, any time he comes back, he'll let alumni come to the course again for free. Helps him with teaching, and helped me with brushing up. I doubt you'll find that deal anywhere. Seriously, $100 for a day sounds like a lot...until you start comparing. What can I say? We have expensive hobbies/obsessions.

We're trying to leave today. I'm headed in to do the last of my clearing now, then there's a bit of paint and we're outta here...I hope. Something tells me it'll take so damned long, we'll have to wait until tomorrow. I'll holler and let you know what the plan is. Worst comes to worst, you know where the house is. There'll be two boxes sitting at the left corner of the garage as you face it!

Yeah, like I said, be sure you drop that slide instead of riding it. Also, lead nosed bullets instead of FMJs are a little bit stickier, though in that application, the difference should be marginal.

For cleaning supplies, swing by Wal-Mart. Grab a little spray can of CLP. Yes, there are people who swear by it and others who denounce it. I personally have never had a problem with it, and I've used it on everything from my personal stuff to the M240B (it really is a bit light for that application though...). Bottom line, it's more than adequate. More importantly, it's cheap and plentiful.

While you're there, spend $13-14 on a .22 bore snake. Best cleaning device money can buy. I wouldn't even bother with a full-fledge cleaning kit full of rods and brushes, though they have one for less than $30 that'll cover the most common calibers from .177 to 12-gauge. Most of my cleaning at home is done with a couple rags, some q-tips, some pipe cleaners, and CLP. If you really, really need to get a gun clean, WD-40 or CLP it liberally, then wipe off the excess after it's soaked and loosened up for a while, and basically swish it around in boiling hot water. Blow dry and be sure to re-lube, because you just stripped everything off that sucker.

For earpro, you can use foamies and be plenty happy with them. If you want something a little nicer, go to Commandos and spend $10 on a set of Surefire plugs that have the pass-through baffles. I'm very happy with mine, and for $10, if you lose them it's not a big deal. If you want muffs, it really doesn't matter. I use Peltor 6S because they have electronic damping and pass-through, so it's easy to carry on a conversation and they work on kids who must be able to understand commands. (They also fit under a MICH, but you don't care about that!)

For eyepro, I use Wiley X B-2s or Oakley M-frames. I don't recommend shelling out dough for that stuff unless you have a need for sunglasses with interchangeable lenses and ballistic ratings. It just so happens that I do...

Well, the power of each bike (GSXR and Buell) and pretty close, depending on which bike. But the Buell's power comes at a the low end of the power band, and is mostly composed of torque made by displacement, whereas the GSXR power comes in at the high end of the power band, is high horsepower, and is made by small displacement, high compression, and high revs.

    • burgundy

Yes, i puked. I mean, the bike itself looks really neat, but its about as functional as using wood to make a brick wall, it just don't work. First, its a HUGE V-Twin, and then, look how tall it is. Its has got to be heavy, and therefore won't handle worth shit.

      IDK, I like functionality most.

i need full shin guards for the ankle protection cuz i play mostly forward or midfielder and i don't want to get accidentally kicked and not be protected...

the nike cleats i'm looking at are the ones that are good that are in my price range and i like the way they feel... but i'm going to the outlet tomorrow to try on some more since the place i went today didn't have the kind i wanted...

me and my roommate go to the school's gym a lot so i work out my legs then and use the elliptical since running is best to build up those muscles but is lower impact on the knee than the treadmill or just running....

my doc told me december of my senior year that if i marched another month let alone season for band especially in college that i'd have to have complete knee reconstructive surgery on both my knees but if i built up my hamstrings and quads it would definitely help.

Speaking of springs- what happened to your bike's spring mod?

Winter. Its been too cold when i get home, but I got a heater now, so I just need to get out there and do it. i talked to one of the mechanics about a major hang up today, which was the fact the reservoir hit the battery box, so I was either going to have to cut it or fabricate a different one (which I fabbed one, but dont like it). So I asked him if I could mount the shock upside down so the reservoir is on the bottom, and he said it should work. So now i can get back out there and hopefully get it done. Plus I am missing a nut and bolt since someone (my dad) kicked my bolt bucket on accident and didn't pick them up. UGH! So, I have to order those, then just get some time to get out there.

And i have to fix my trucks brakes first.

Consider it done, (pending the fact that the card may not work) We'll see.

You post enough in my journals and stuff, so I don't mind. I see you around the site too. *off to go try it out* smiley9.gif

It's called Rise of the Video Game.

And they're about to do another RvB spot. I have no idea why they would do that, but it's still cool nonetheless.

I've heard (or read, rather) different rumors about its power. Most specify either 1200 or 1400 Horsepower.

I can't find any info on that, either.

Yeah, I heard about the Pegaso edition a while ago.

I can't find anything on it. Bugatti usually makes a big show with new cars and new editions, but there was nothing on the Pegaso Veyron. I think it's a cutomization that was special-ordered by the owner.
