      HatHead

I am in the middle of providing virtual conference services for IDRC, a Canadian government agency that promotes technology solutions for developing countries and regions - it is very cool & I am really enjoying being part of using technology for the good of others who mostly are disadvantaged by the circumstances of their lives.

Here is the conference networking website I pulled together for them: PAN ALL 2009 PARTNERS CONFERENCE.

Taking place in Second Life, the first presentation was from the very spirited and irreverent professor Arun Mehta who works with severely disabled children and technology. Arun's work drew the attention of Stephen Hawking, who sought Arun out to help develop him more interfaces as his paralyzing condition continues to deteriorate.

      Slide2_1.JPG

It was fascinating to discuss the background and approaches for severely disabled peoples to engage on the internet and not be left behind because of their disabilities.

This conference has been a real eye opener so far in terms of what I take for granted and understanding the challenges facing those who cannot access the networked world. These challenges are the real technology challenges the world needs to address; not the next iPhone or cool new thing.

Join me at The Black Whole where I will be doing a weekly series of live concerts in Second Life starting today, this Sunday @ 11pm EST. Each concert is improvised in real time, creating rich tapestries where every performance explores new fusions of ambient and space music.

Here is a link to the Second Life location: The Black Whole (pictured above; built by me!)
11 pm EST / 8 pm PST - hope you can make it one Sunday!

Just dusted off about a decade of dust from my Akai EWI 2000 wind synthesizer and am going to incorporate it into my show tonight. Here is a quick improv test...

I think that somehow I have been transported to an alternate universe. Is KrozeGG really a Mod?? How can this be possible? I did not authorize any of this. Why can't I be transported to an alternate universe where I am wealthy beyond calculation?

Also, I am happy to report that I have worked through my massive alert watchlist without a bulk 'clear all alerts' action. My conclusion: the more things change, the more they stay the same and RvB is still an awesomely cool site.

      Peace!

I estimate that I have close to 3000 unread journal entries on my watch list. This is really only an estimation without much scientific rigour. I have not calculated new images nor other watch alerts yet.

I have also not calculated the amount of time required to read and view all of the new watch alerts.

This is a lot of calculation to perform. I will post an update upon closer determination of the total.

      1. No Pants Subway Ride this Saturday!
      2. RANDOMLAND
      3. Queen of Hearts 2008

You may know of Improv Everywhere, kindred spirits and personal friends of ours in New York! Their wacky antics, from the MP3 Experiments to their Best Buy prank, are immense amounts of fun for participants. One of their greatest annual traditions, of course, is the No Pants Subway Ride.

Which is why we are thrilled that Random Living, with some promotional help from yours truly, will be hosting a Toronto version on Saturday, and you can bet we'll be there, pantsless :P

*** 1. TORONTO NO PANTS SUBWAY RIDE ***

      facebook.com/event.php?eid=9795926022

      This Saturday, January 12th, 2008
All ages and genders are invited to ride the subway with no pants!

Meet in the Price Chopper parking lot outside Dundas West station, 2800 Dundas St. W, at 3:00 PM sharp. Further instructions will be given there, and they are very important, so don't wait around in the station! There are only a few requirements:

      1) Willingness to take pants off on the subway
      2) Ability to keep a straight face about it
      3) A backpack/bag to keep the pants in
      4) No cameras or spectators of any kind, this will give it away!

The complete information is available at facebook.com/event.php?eid=9795926022 - mark your attendance.

Also check out the NYC edition @ improveverywhere.com - these guys rule!

Hope to see you there, not wearing pants! :)

      *** 2. RANDOMLAND this Friday ***

And if you want to get in on the randomness this Friday at CiRCA, our reduced admission list is still poppin'!

      newmindspace.com/random

      *** 3. QUEEN OF HEARTS, February 13th 2008 ***

Last year's Queen of Hearts, our almost-annual tradition of chalk-painting thousands of pink hearts on the sidewalks of Queen Street West, was brought to a screeching halt by a massive blizzard. However, 2006 was awesome, check out the pics :)

      newmindspace.com/queenofhearts.php

Anyway, we will be attempting this again and, if there is a blizzard, we can just have a snowball fight instead :) The call for volunteers will go out shortly!

My original thinking for getting the instrument was for being able to play many sounds in a pit orchestra, etc. - they always like to hire musicians who can play multiple instruments/sounds.

I know...I want one of those jobs. smiley8.gif

I think those instruments work better the way you're using them...having greater musical control over a MIDI or sampled sound. I don't think we're at the point where a computer can replace a violin, but this can certainly COMPLIMENT instead of replace.

lag and music - that actually happens to me when I play concerts in Second Life as my performance is streamed (from the comfort of my own home) and there is sometimes a 30 second delay which then makes my audio response to audience text chat a little late.

Hrm...that does make me wonder, as a professional musician who strives for perfect performances knowing they can never happen...if I bridge my own performance during faulty notes will people assume I just have a laggy connection and never guess I just skipped a bad note?

They disappear due to lag? You need to perform on a faster server. smiley8.gif

China > USA = As the next world power.

If you leave China alone, they will leave you alone too, for the time being...untill they need to expand. They've mostly always been a defensive military country.

They may expand economically, and imperialize that way, but considering they want to be in power economically it doesn't look like they will allow other countries to take away their business which has made it so successful to begin with.

Coincidentally to your journal topic, a former proff, and friend of mine just told me that there have been several sightings of pseudoscorpions in homes in Saskatoon. This was previously out of the known range for this arachnid in Saskatchewan where they are usually found in the Southwest corner in the Cypress Hills. So it seems that some thngs may in fact be changing.....certainly there is a growing body of circumstancial evidence to support this.

Just though you might be interested

      there is cloning in nature.

any organism that is cappable of asexual reproduction is cloning itself to carry this our. Most animals are not capable of this, but some insects are capable of asexual cloning. MAny different plants are capable of this. Any plant that can be easily propagated via cuttings or fragmentation is capable of cloning in nature!!
