Dead hang obliques: Almost the same as the leg lifts, except I lift to one side or the other as close to sideways as possible. Sometimes it's easier to target the obliques if you bend your knees and do it that way.

There might be a different name for these... when in doubt I make up my own. =)

If I get the spare time I'll take you up on that and I'm supposed to be quartered at the Landmark Inn.

I'll pass on the groundwork, I had to get my airborne stuff forwarded to the CG of cadet command to get approval to jump and I have a feeling that I'll have enough fun on my own with whatever kind of cherry/prop blast they come up with for a cadet-

Yeah I'm glad I started this by tracking my calories, I had no idea how little I was actually eating and that what I was eating was crap. You said eat right after working out. What kind of foods am I supposed to be eating?Someone told me a can of tuna mixed with something like mustard.

As for the stay busy thing, yeah I definitely know what you mean. Ryan and I built a walk in closet under these huge steps in the office building I work at. I've been getting up at 0600 going to work, working a full day then staying in the office until almost 2200 doing intense manual labor (sanding the joint compound on dry wall is quite the intense arm work out...so is hanging dry wall for that matter). I would get home at 2230 and suddenly realize that I hadn't eaten since 1100 during my lunch break. We are almost done with the closet (second coat of paint, in installing the shelves and rods for coats) thank god.

I've started keeping things like apple, almonds, strawberries, etc at work. I know almonds are high in fat but they are a good fat so I never have more than a handful. Keeping those in my office has been helping me remember to eat while I'm working on the closet.

MCMAP=Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. I am in class to promote up to green (OD) belt. We refresh our tan and grey belt knowledge on our own time and train for two hours a day until all of the skills for green are masteres. We start with 15 minutes of stretching amd warm up then 15 minutes od combat conditioning. An hour of instruction and application of the day's new technique. Then 30 minutes of grappling. Green belt is a lot of ground work so it can be up to 90 minutes of grappling. Yesterday was throws and ground techniques. Not to hard. Day before was monkey in the middle so you were mostly non-stop. You can get some info from Training and Education Command(TECOM) and from MarineNet. Books and videos for Marine Corps "combatives."

I've been using that Safariland holster for years, and I won't give it up for nothing. As a duty holster, of course. As for the gimpy light, it's a Streamlight TLR-2 light/laser combo. Pretty solid construction, and it does the job. Wasn't my choice to use this particular device - it's department issued.

We own too many Mk48's. Well, to be fair, one Mk48 is too many. It's a $20,000 bag of shit, bro. The guts of the gun are essentially beefed-up M249 parts, and it can't handle 7.62 very well. I've got broken bolts, broken op rods, broken springs, broken cocking handles, the works. The bolts are the worst. The bolt is weakest where the camming lug is machined out, and we snap those bolts into two pieces like it's balsa wood. The life cycle of any one gun before catastrophic failure is anywhere between 100 and 20,000 rounds. Yeah, it's so undependable that I can't even pinpoint when I expect one to fail.

And when I say life cycle, I mean life cycle. I've got two Mk48's stripped down to just the receivers because keeping useful parts on a completely assfucked receiver would be wasteful (although admittedly not as wasteful as buying these pieces of metal shit at all).

Preaching to the choir. I'm just passing on how they sold it to me.

And just for SA, Cyber200 is a prereq for earning the "master" level on our new AFSC. I think I mentioned this before a while back, but we're not 33S's anymore, we're 17D's.

    • Gael

Havoc, the group is approaching it like this: With Cyber200 coming online, ACOT is going away. In fact, this is the last year for it. SOS might be needless re-blueing, but I have a chance to DG there whereas ACOT doesn't have DGs anymore. I'm kind of beyond arguing the logic on things like this... better just to salute and move on. I'm PCSing in July anyway. They're looking at EWS as a hole in my records and in some ways they are right. I will have finished my 6th year by graduation, so if Tank finds a home for me in JCU or JSOC, I only have a year to check the SOS box plus any other unit training.

I guess I'm not plugged into the news. People actually say that shit? Oddly enough, I seem to remember that Japan stepped up to help us after Katrina.

Oh hell yeah, people are talking like this. I've seen it most prominent in Facebook status updates and in a couple blogs. A couple even figured they'd mention that Japan didn't help in Katrina, when we both know that isn't true.

I mean, you're not really missing it on the news, though.

Like I said in my journal where I have a tendency to reiterate and repeat things for emphasis and to make points (especially when I am annoyed or angry or disgusted), I'm still not on board with Obama's little scheme but I'll be looking for a way in which I can help out somehow.

Economic left/right ranking:-1.75 (I could still argue that's a little bit more to the left than I think it should be, but only a little. There were a few questions that I felt should have follow-ups based on your response)

Social Liberatarian/Authoritarian Ranking: -4.56 (that is almost dead on. I am a social liberal without a doubt)

That was mine. I struggled with a few of the questions and felt some needed follow up questions.

The simple answer is the unions in WI have already agreed to Walker's cuts. They'll pay for the healthcare and they'll pay for the pensions. The issue causing the uproar , aside from Gov. Walker being an utter and complete liar bereft of decency or integrity of any kind, is Walker wants to totally strip public employee unions of their right to collective bargaining aside from bargaining for pay increases that do not exceed the cost of living increase for that fiscal year. He also wants to force the public employees to vote to re-certify the unions every year. Naturally, being the contemptible weasel that he is, he left police officers' and fire fighters' unions out of his plan.

Of course, the governor's budget would be much easier to balance if he had not rammed $100 million in tax cuts through the state legislature and if he was not trying to pass another $82 million in various other cuts.

Regarding teachers that stink, yes, they should be fired, no doubt. But in my brief experience, I have not seen many talentless teachers receive tenure or even stay in the profession. Teaching K-12 is not easy. Youngsters will wear you out on a good day, and 12-yr. olds are just plain evil. A person who doesn't enjoy teaching and who probably isn't good at teaching is not likely to remain a teacher. That's obviously my own feeling.

The issue of whether unions are an outdated notion that should be phased out of society and dismissed as a relic of history I would be happy to discuss a little later, when I'm not in the office. As you might expect, I disagree with that idea. More on that later.

Jumped out of anything interesting lately?

I've been carrying a Benchmade auto folder for years. The spring took a shit, and I haven't sent it back to Benchmade to get it repaired. So, fun story about that is that as an auto-folder, it's legal for me to possess under the Military/LE exemption. As a gravity knife, which is what it is now, it's not legal for ANYBODY in the DPRK to own or possess.

Yeah, SERE was nuts. I think the worst part was that I volunteered to go into it. Everything else was pretty bearable. Otherwise, it was a great weight loss program. Lost 25 initially, gained back ten of it, but staying steady now so it was like hitting a reset button there.

The KSG's capacity is for 2-3/4" shells. As for the wheel gun, it's more for collection than anything else. I also prefer semiautos for defense and ease of use, but I'm not opposed to owning one or two revolvers.

Take a close look at the Civilian Marksmanship Program's offering of M1's, broseph. I just saw a "Service Grade" rifle listed for $595.

Also, I'm aware that UCP is on its way out in the Army, which has been a point that I've been sure to harp on to anybody who would listen. I had the chance to speak with the guy (at the federal level) who headed up the project for the standardization of the uniform, and told him about how I witnessed, firsthand, how well MultiCam worked in our environment, but I guess my persuasiveness was at a low that day. On a related note, UCP works pretty well in our more urban (read: less desert) environment. The other day I was barely able to focus on one of our guys on the other side of a fenceline, even though I knew he was there.

What happens when the deck freezes? Or does it matter?

While it was hot and running there was no problem. Now that it has cooled down, everything is frozen solid and will probably stay that way until the next thaw.

I think a 22 is a good starter pistol. I have an airsoft to get him started. Once he gets stronger/older a 9mm with a conversion kit does sound like the way to go. After researching it this week, I am going to have to take a step back amd organize this all. I have a few a bills and school to get ready for my wife's EAS. We are going to be on one income once she's forced out. (time in service limit) I would say now is time to get our toys but you know having a cash reserve when the two of us are out of the service is the smart thing to do. It is just part of growing up I guess. I still don't want to grow up. I got another reality check last night, the 1903's at my local gun shop went up to over $1500. The longer it takes to get my goal, the harder it is to reach it.

    • GoldenZephyr

Yeah. A new pistol would be ten days and I was trying to do this on friday. I think the indoor range with rentals will be too much of a red ass and my outdoor range would be way easier. You are probably right that he needs his own since my full size 45 will be too big for his hands.

I'm used to the ACOG being high from our M-16A4 and RCO set up so I wasn't surprised. I was looking for a "heads up" type of shooting stance. I am going to try to remount the scope cuz there is no way the recommended components are so far off of zero. And it's actually the magazine spring pushing the following rounds against the bolt.
