      So that's what ten-dollar-a-bottle beer tastes like. In short? Amazing. Best beer I've EVER had. No words do it justice. Worth every penny.

      This is definitely a man's beer. As the video says, not for the weak or faint of heart. I like that. Honestly, one bottle is almost too much. Makes for sloooow sipping. Next time I'll have a proper food pairing. Marshall?

      What do you guys recommend for finding/comparing internet service in a new area? I'm not finding much except Comcast and Time Warner Cable. I've never heard a single positive comment about Comcast, and TWC really sucked when I dealt with them in NY.

      My plan is to go high speed internet only. Not concerned with TV or phone.

      I've been a bit remiss in updating. OBE as they say in military circles: Overtaken By Events.

      Movement from Ft Bragg, NC to Ft Lewis, WA is complete. It was one helluva trip, totalling a bit over 3500 miles with 2 cars, 1 Uhaul trailer, 3 kids, 3 dogs, and about 8-9 days. One of the highlights was staying in Coeur d'Alene, ID for an extra day after SunJa accidentally hit a chunk of tumbling metal that fell off a truck directly in front of her, punching a small hole in the bottom of the transmission pan. We swam for 2 days, which is literally the first time the dogs had ever been in the water, and they LOVED it. Rescue Moe spent his days trying to drown everyone who made the mistake of screaming in the water. Good doggie! We jumped off rocks ranging from 2m to 1m high--we being me and all 3 kids. Nate was the most adventurous, true to form, but even our youngest got into it, though he about wore me out treading water and waiting for him on his 4 jumps. Each kid has become a better swimmer with some extra instruction from me. Nate beat me on a breath-holding contest the other day...until I pointed out that his time was :14 and mine was 1:13.

      We've been in a hotel in Tacoma for 9 days now. House-hunting is pure ass-pain when you've got 3 kids and 3 dogs and everyone has to get to each house. Customer service is a dying art or something, and I got a case of the ass bad enough to tell some fool that it's his goddamned job to "go on our website and see if anything matches our requirements", not mine. I don't get paid for that shit. I pay you slack-asses for that shit. Now cull your database for 3BR, 2BA, 2-car garages with fenced yards that are pet friendly. Oh, and "I'll call you right back" doesn't mean tomorrow. After one such encounter, I strung along one particular mouth-breather with the, "But I have just one more question for the owner" game for 3 days before telling her on the final day that I'd signed for a house two days prior. "If you'd called me right back like you said, then I guess this wouldn't have happened, would it?"

      Speaking of which, we've signed a lease for a nice house that meets all my requirements. We'll be moving in on Wednesday. School started a few days ago, but I got the kids enrolled Friday after getting the lease, so their first day will be Tue or Wed. Too bad household goods won't arrive for another week (really, a 3-week lead time to deliver??), but c'est la vie. It'll be nice to be able to go somewhere and not have to take all 3 mutts with us. Much more museum/zoo/etc stuff to do with the kids that way.

      Have met my boss and gotten an idea of what I'm going to be doing downrange. Suffice it to say, I'll be sleeping armed. I'll be sure to send you pics of me in my pistol belt while getting my monthly bath too. Like any setup or beginning, there's an overwhelming amount of work and questions to go through. I'm starting to read professionally on what I need to do. The good news is, I'll primarily focus on the ANSF and my dealings with the US will be very much force-of-personality based. Good, because that's something I specialize in. I also told my boss that I'd like to run some advanced small arms ranges for the team, focusing on CQM, as well as some Soviet Bloc fam fire. I'll see if I can leverage my combatives cred to get some extra, focused H2H stuff as well. I intend to be as lethal as possible, regardless of what others' mindsets may be.

      Have yet to sign into the unit. While I'm sick of living in 1 rm with everyone, I'm loathe to come in off leave. I'll probably start some tentative in-processing this coming week, if only to get the weeks-long wait for my email address started and to get those meat-sticks in medical records to request Bragg to send our records over. I have a boat-load of use/lose leave though. I departed with over 95 days on the books, and even after this PCS, I'll only have burned 17ish at the most. I'm in no hurry to get back to work. The 82nd got their money's worth out of me.

      4 hrs spent swimming again today. New (used) transmission pan should arrive in AM and we'll be in Tacoma Friday night.

      Highlight of the day was poor Moe-dog getting stung on the nutsack by a yellow-jacket while at the lake. I doubt he'd agree, but the dancing and howling was rather comical. Having to grab a bee off his balls wasn't much fun for either of us however.

      "Rescue Moe" probably swam about a mile today. Not as far as yesterday, but he got some distance in. When SunJa would leash him on the beach for his own good (to keep his tired butt from sinking), he'd absolutely howl while watching me jump off the rocks into the water.

      When we first got to the water, he immediately charged out and swam the 30-40m out to some kid at the end of the rocks. Now, if his "rescues" didn't include basically drowning you, that'd be cool. Kid had a life jacket on and mom was pissed, grabbing her kids moments after and leaving us to ourselves on that section of the beach. Win. Lesson learned.

      3300ish miles into the great trans-continental PCS from Fayetteville, NC to Ft Lewis (Tacoma), WA. We're currently stranded in Coeur d'Alene, ID because a chunk of metal fell off a truck in front of SunJa and punched a hole in the Magnum's transmission pan. One day and about 350 miles from our final destination. Pan isn't cast, so it's a $20 part and a snap to replace, but the problem is...it's on back order from Chrysler. Haven't found one in local wrecking yards yet. Nearest one is in Oregon...and will take until Monday to arrive.

      Looks like USAA is going to have to shell out for the rental car and we'll drive the rest of the way to Ft Lewis tomorrow after spending an extra night here. Then I'll drive back for the car. Ah well, back to the swimming hole.

      Summary later, but thus far, the trip has included 4-lb burgers, Mt Rushore, Rushmore Caverns, a zipline, lunch in a saloon, Devil's Tower, grinding through the black hills with the truck pulling a UHaul, the dogs' first swimming trip, about 15 million "are we there yet", one visit from animal control in a parking lot, wild fires on the side of the road with helicopters dropping water, a whole lot of orienteering and terrain feature education to kids, math lessons for Lex, eating Butt(e) meat in Butte, MT, and an ice cream sundae the size of my head.

      Ho-lee-shit! Just finished day 1 of a 3-day tactical pistol and carbine course at TigerSwan. Definitely, DEFINITELY recommended. I doubt you'll find finer training anywhere. Check the credentials on some of the cadre. Others are equally well qualified and not listed. These dudes are no joke. Top-notch training. Best I've ever had. Feels good to learn again.

      Conducted my final jump with the 82nd Airborne today. Served as primary jumpmaster and launched 89 Paratroopers from a C-17, 800ft AGL on Sicily DZ with T-10Ds. Non-tactical, night, combat equipment. Hot as hell, USAF was a hot mess, and no injuries. I had a pretty good landing. It was a good day.

      Bad news: I have extensive stress fractures of both shins

      Good news: I'm not a total bitch and I wasn't imagining the ridiculous amount of pain in my legs or that the ice/stretching/compression/med​s weren't helping.

      Solution: Profile for no running for 90 days. Right after this final company run. Gotta leave division on a high note, crippled or not.

      Doc asked why the hell I waited so long and kept powering through it. Didn't like the incredulous response: "I'm a company commander in the 82nd. What part of that don't you understand?"

      So, house is mostly empty, we're putting the finishing touches on it, and the rental agency is contracted. As soon as my change of command is complete next week, we're out of here, headed to Ft Lewis by way of Western NY to pick up the kids. Each move gets harder. At 3.5 years, this is the longest I've spent in one house since junior high school. Looking forward to another move in 2013 on the heels of my deployment, and then another in 2014 when I've finished my schooling.

      Oh, and to round out today for being awesome, I had a guy get arrested by the MPs for outstanding warrants while he was standing in the company. I'm about ready to stop dealing with that bullshit. You dipshits who think you're smart and clever, realize that your CO and 1SG have probably seen all that shit before. I've got 2.5 years in this gig (5 if you count USAF command time) and 1SG has 4. It's hard to be surprised.

Think of guys like SSG Don Stacy and SSG Jamal Clay, Paratroopers from the 505th PIR who died in the last 10 days. This calling, whether in training or in combat operations, is inherently risky Thank god we have men who will step up and answer, no matter the cost.

      Saw that you were an admin in the firearm enthusiasts group (which I just joined, I own an M1 Garand, Mosin Nagant 91/30, and our M1 Carbine will hopefully be coming in from the CMP within the next year, plus four pistols which I dont care to list out, haha)

      Haha I did notice it but I wasn't sure if the discolouration was just blood that had gotten on the other toe or not so I didn't say anything.

      Aww geez, that poor woman! I'm kind of surprised she still did the pedicure because she could have turned you away if she thought you might risk spreading an infection or making the infections worse. I hope you gave her a huge tip!

      Yeah, I've had three tours in Iraq under my belt, and I was under the same impression. The thing that gets me, is that he had a combat patch on; and a Sapper tab. So maybe that was the real issue.

      I wouldn't want to be day battle captain at all. Night it where it's at; then at least all you have to do is fight the plan. During the day, every major in sight wants you to do all kinds of shit.

      So we have 6 openings for Air Assault School open to MS I / II cadets this summer- should I try and get one of those openings or go for Airborne school instead?

      (Air Assault is the more likely of the two as its shorter and more likely to fit in my Summer as I'm being sent to LTC as well)
