    • Alien Covenant's Marketing and WTF Spoilers?!

      IAmVeryMoist

It seems like movies these days with their marketing spoil key elements of their respective films. Whether it's through social media marketing or just plain trailers in theaters, it's becoming more of a trend for movies to just blow their load before the initial release. I tend to take a 1 teaser only approach to movies these days. Sometimes no trailers whatsoever. If a movie has an interesting premise with a good director and cast, I'm usually 100% on board and don't need to see a sliver of footage. Then when I see the movie I tend to be blown away because I had no preconceived notions going in.

This post is generally going to be discussing the new Alien Covenant which releases May 19th. I 100% think you all should go the route of trying to resist all of the tv spots and trailers for Covenant and just films in general as it only creates a better movie going experience for you in the long run. But let's really dive into Alien Covenant and more specifically... the incident that just occurred 15 minutes ago from the time I'm writing this.

The first official RED BAND teaser trailer for Alien Covenant was released Dec 24th 2016. It provided a cool inside look at what we can expect from this new installment in the Prometheus trilogy leading up to the classic Alien. As far as teasers are considered I thought it was perfect and adequately portrayed the tone and basic premise of the film. I didn't need to see anything else.

Then came the Prologue, which aired on TV during Legion. This 5 minute video shows a snippet (probably not from the ACTUAL movie) of the characters we will be following in Covenant. It's a crew of couples that are going to colonize on this new planet. There's even an interracial couple, a gay couple, to help create a diverse company which is progressive and cool. The scene overall works (even though some of the editing is questionable), there's a nod to the scene in the original Alien with John Hurts character and the chestburster, and we even catch our first glimpse of James Franco's character which is dope as hell. This all lead up to....

...the official Theatrical Trailer that now plays before most movies in theaters was released February 28th 2017 and shows just enough to wet peoples appetite even more... DESPITE the last few seconds after the title appears. The scene with Tennessee and Daniels (played by Danny McBride and Katherine Waterston) I can guarantee you is from the last act of the film. And probably is a good indication that these two characters will be the final two to survive towards the end (they both still could die).

Seems like we're on track to get hyped for a new Alien film from Ridley Scott. And then... the TV Spots came. Oh boy did they come. In the span of like a few days, we got FOUR new TV Spots: RunPrayHide, and Take Me Home. Now I am deliberately NOT embedding these spots into this post seeing as I didn't watch them and I don't think YOU should either. Obviously you can seek it out for yourself if you want more spoilers. Not only did 4 new spots release each with a new sliver of "spoilers", word and footage has broke out on the role of Dr Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) from Prometheus. I once again will not describe the details on her role seeing as I don't know all the facts and believe it to be... say it with me now, a SPOILER. Jimmney Christmas what the hell is going on?

Recently at Cinemacon even, director Ridley Scott presented a scene from the film showing what sounds like the creation scene of the iconic Xenomorphs. It involved David the Android (Michael Fassbender) from Prometheus, Black Goo, and the Engineers. Why on Earth would Scott, willingly show that scene? What's the purpose of that? Why not let it be a reveal in the cinema?!

Finally though, the main cause for this post has to do with a recent Tweet that the official Alien Covenant tweeted out today. I can't remember what the tweet said since they took it down but the tweet contained an X-ray photo of one of the characters in the film. I will not disclose who, but if you search around enough on the internet you can spoil that for yourself if you want. In the X-ray photo we see what appears to be a baby Xenomorph growing inside the character. Now you could see this as a clever red herring conducted by the studio to throw us off and make us worried for this character. But moments after the tweet went live, the account deleted the tweet and now it's nowhere to be found on their social media platforms. People obviously have the photo but the actual tweet from the official Twitter has been taking down. This led me to believe that the photo is in fact... a HUGE GINORMOUS spoiler for said character. I was beside myself that this happened and I have no idea how to feel going into Alien Covenant now. I want it to be a lie and a red herring but I'm having a hard time believing that's the case.

What do you all think? Are you excited for Alien Covenant? What do you all think of the marketing strategies they're deploying? Are you remaining spoiler free? Lemme know in the comments.

Also they released this badass poster.

    • Raw - Movie Review

      IAmVeryMoist

Right from the start, Raw had me absolutely hooked. I was viciously consuming this film visually just as much as the main protagonist Justine was consuming meat and blood.

Raw tells the story of a young vegetarian named Justine who undergoes a carnivorous hazing ritual at vet school, an unbidden taste for meat begins to grow in her.

This is a feature first for Julia Ducournau and I couldn't be more shocked at how fantastic this film is. A female driven coming of age story mixed with gore, cannibalism, psycho sexualization, pulsating sound, and visually arresting cinematography, all written and directed by a woman.

Which is rare these days so I find it especially necessary to note that.

Raw has many surprising moments during it's duration that left me gasping and wanting to look away from the screen. It's a wild animal unto itself. And I cannot wait to own this on Blu-ray. It's one of my favorite films of the year.

    • IT has Arrived

      IAmVeryMoist

After a long struggle in development hell, we finally have the first official Teaser Trailer for the new incarnation of Stephen King's IT.

I have strong childhood memories of watching the original miniseries of IT starring Tim Curry from back in the day. I used to remember ABC Family would have Halloween horror film marathons in October and they'd always show IT. I remember flipping through my tv and catching glimpses of the film. Always afraid and hesitant to linger on the film for too long in fear I'd see Tim Curry's terrifying Pennywise. And now that we live in a world where nothing is off the table as far as remakes are concerned, it was only a matter of time before IT got the remake treatment.

Cary Fukunaga of True Detective fame was originally attached to pen the script and direct but due to creative differences with the studio he dropped out. Now Andrés Muschietti director of Mama is heading the film that will be split into two films and both rated R. The first film which this trailer is for is about the Losers Club, the group of kids who all are haunted by an evil clown entity known as Pennywise. The second film will be about the kids grown up still dealing with Pennywise.

IT takes place in 1989 and follows a group of kids who call themselves the Losers Club. These kids find themselves battling a shapeshifting monster that is terrorizing them and the town of Derry, Maine.

Part 2 of IT will follow the Losers Club kids decades later as they return to the town of Derry as adults to battle one last time against the evil Pennywise that tormented them as kids.

    • A Ghost Story - Poster and Trailer Released

      IAmVeryMoist

A24 continues to pump out solid indie flicks year after year. A24 is responsible for films like: Ex Machina, Tusk, Swiss Army Man, Room, Green Room, The Witch, American Honey, The Lobster, Moonlight and more.

In addition to this years It Comes at Night and Free Fire, A24 is bringing us an unconventional type of "ghost story".

Upon finishing Pete's Dragon last year, director David Lowery secretly shot A Ghost Story in Dallas, Texas over the course of two months. The overall production was finished by September 2016 and the film premiered at this years Sundance Film Festival opening to critical praise.

Ethan Anderton of SlashFilm.com had this to say about A Ghost Story, "This is truly one of the most unique films I’ve ever seen at a film festival, but it’s one that requires patience, an open mind, and plenty of afterthought. It’s difficult for a trailer to encapsulate the spirit of this mesmerizing movie, but hopefully it will be enough to help convince audiences to give it a chance."

I for one cannot wait to see this sombering, beautiful, and quietly existential film. I strongly encourage you keep this film on your radar as it releases this summer on July 7th.

    • "Baby Driver" Releasing EARLY

      IAmVeryMoist

Looks like Edgar Wright fans and car chase fanatics alike won't have to wait much longer to see Wright's latest flick... Baby Driver.

      1489418135-baby.gif

Edgar Wright premiered Baby Driver at this years SXSW here in Austin TX to glowing rave reviews and won the Audience Award for the festival. Currently sitting at a nice 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (out of 21 reviews), I think it's safe to assume we're going to have another generally well loved Edgar Wright film.

Touted as a car chase musical, Baby Driver tells the story of a talented, young getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Originally set for release on August 11th 2017, get ready to put the pedal to the metal early when Baby Driver speeds into theaters on June 28th 2017.

    • Cast Photos are Trending

      IAmVeryMoist

For whatever reason it seems like cast photos are trending lately. In just the past day or so we've gotten THREE official looks at some of the cast of some of the most hotly anticipated films coming this year and next year.

For starters we got our first look at some of the cast of the new Predator film from writer/director Shane Black (The Nice Guys, Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon).

      NElnZgurCQoXpp_1_a.jpg

The film stars: Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Boyd Holbrock (Logan), Jacob Tremblay (Room), Olivia Munn (X-Men), Keegan Michael-Key (Key and Peele), and of course director Shane Black.

Allegedly set in the suburbs, The Predator is slated for a February 2018 release and is going to be a hard R rating.

Next up we have a cast photo for the new Alien Covenant directed by Ridley Scott. If you haven't seen the R rated teaser for the film go ahead and watch it. Taking place after the events of Prometheus, Covenant takes the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape. Pushing a hard R rating and allegedly going for a classic Alien feel, Alien Covenant is due to release this May.

Cast in photo above includes: James Franco, Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Callie Hernandez, Demián Bichir and Benjamin Rigby.

According to IGN, 20th Century Fox shared the photo in a post on Twitter, which provides an early look at James Franco as Captain Branson. Accompanying the photo was tease for the aforementioned sneak peek, which will be shown during tomorrow night's episode of Legion.

And finally, we have a cast photo officially from the untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story film being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the dynamic duo behind The Lego Movie, and 21 22 Jump Street. Starring Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.

The untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is slated for release on May 25, 2018.
