I gave the guy back his iPod... and he handed me a $50 bill.

      Ironic?

Also... Brooklyn College refuses to process my loan early, which means I have to wait 2-3 weeks. If I lose the apartment I will cry.

    • Maybe I'm stupid, but I think I'm nice.

I went to see The Pirate Queen on Broadway tonight. It was good... but not great (Phantom of the Opera is soooo much better).

As we were walking from the Hard Rock Cafe to the theater, I found a Blackberry on the floor.

I fiddled with it while I was drinking and after going through like 100 contacts, I found "Mom."

So I call it... it's an Alabama area code, and this is the conversation I had with this lady that sounds like Paula Deen.

Me: Hi, I found someone's Blackberry and this number comes up as their Mom.
      Mom: What? Who is this?
Me: Oh, hi, I'm Samantha. I found a blackberry in the street and ...
Mom: A blackberry? What are you talking about
[I realize she thinks I'm talking about an actual blackberry]
Me: It's like a phone but you can use it as a computer too, type...thing...
      Mom: Okay, so...where are you?
Me: I'm in Manhattan... in NY city.
Mom: Well my son's in New York...
Me: Yeah, I think this is his.
Mom: Okay give me your number, and I'll call him to see if it's his.
      Me: Okay it's 1(212) ###-####
Mom: 1212...what area code is that.
      Me: It's Manhattan.
      Mom: Where's that?
      Me: New York.
      Mom: It's four digits.
Me: You have to dial 1 first... the area code is 212.
Mom: Oh. Okay. So I'll call my son now.
      Me: Okay, take care.
      Mom: WHAT?
      Me: I said "Take care."
      Mom: Oh, thank you.

I talked to the guy a few minutes later, and I'm going to meet him in the city to return it.

My brother told me I'm an asshole ... I could have made $50 real quick on the street.

AT LEAST I'M GOING TO HEAVEN!

      LOL!!

So...spring break has ended. I'm back at work. I register for my first semester of grad school somewhere between April 25th and May 8th. Assuming I get approved for the maximum amount for the loan I'm going to apply for, I will be moving out between May and June (my goal was May 1st, but thanks to CUNY's supreme suckitude, I don't think that will happen).

I will not be moving in with Rose and Helena because we mutually decided we'd rather be on our own for a while. Fine with me, because I have hangups about people making a mess on my terrain.

I have an apartment lined up, pending it's not stolen from my weak grasp before I get the loan... and it's literally across the street from where I am now. It's a HUGE studio. I love it. It's right next door to Aurora. *laughs dryly at the irony* and I already have it furnished in my head.

I'm crossing my fingers, praying, making sacrifices to the dark lord, etc etc in hopes of getting it before someone else does. It would be so convenient. You have no idea how excited I'll be if it all works out. It means, 1, not having to wake up an hour early for the shower. 2, not having to worry about pissing off my parents if I want to have people over. 3, free reign. 4, I'll be eligible for free healthcare since I'll be independent. 5, next year, ... mad financial aid for school. 6, Dude, I'd be independent. It's going to be awesome.

Of course, I'm going to willingly go into crazy debt, but I look at it this way. Most people take out loans to go away for their undergrad schooling. I'll be taking it out for 2 years of grad school, to live on my own... and I think it pretty much serves the same purpose.

Cory will get a huge room (aka my current room). My parents will no longer have to deal with me. If I get my license, their premiums won't go up. It benefits everyone.

I just can't fucking wait. I already viewed the apartment... god it's so awesome. The downside is that because it's a lobby apartment... there will most definitely be a roach or mouse problem, so I'm going to have to make sure the exterminator that comes every month definitely makes it to my apartment.

Anyway, if all goes well, you're all invited to crash here. LOL. Assuming you're ever within 50 or so miles of Brooklyn. :)

K... I'm off to eat my potentially gross vegan burrito that was way overpriced. Damn me for not eating the meat.

As you can see from the new default picture, my Aunt Diane gave birth. Ava Maria is her fourth child, and weighed in at 9lbs 1oz (my aunt is notorious for having giant mutant babies...AJ was over 10lbs)...

Anyway, I'm excited as all hell and :) :) :)!!

      ugh!

i have no time lately. my schedule (although i love work) sucks. i don't like getting up at 6am and coming home at 10pm... (cause, you know, it's customary to stay and hang out when i finish at 8) ... ack ack ack.

the only downside is that laundry piles up, i don't get enough sleep, and the only people i hang out with any more are my work friends (which means everyone else is neglected)

tomorrow i'm going to the night supervisor's birthday party... we had a surprise party for her yesterday evening... aka sam getting red faced and drunk at work.

i went to the ranger game with my friend mike the other night... we kicked ass.

other than that, the only updates i have for you is that i may be moving in with my friends rose and helena in the summer... umm... i got into the graduate program i wanted to (thats not a big surprise, i know most of the staff there and im not an idiot), and i finally got my teaching license.

i'm also tipsy as i write this

      yahoooo

      I'm being slowly driven crazy.

My room smells exactly like potato chips. I do not have potato chips in my room. I do not have any opened food product in my room. My room is fairly clean, with the exception of a pile of books and my DDR box tossed asunder. The only thing I can think of is that I've left my windows open a lot more often lately (because it hasn't been as cold) and that the air in my neighborhood is just nasty...?

Oh my god, it's fucking annoying. I don't know why this is bothering me so much. I'm out of incense so I can't mask it.... I think I'm going to make a trip to the city JUST to get more, because the dollar store shit doesn't last.

I'm psyched and dreading the effects of the decisions I just made.

As you know, I love my current job, and the only thing that pissed me off was that I didn't get to work at night (because that's when all the young, fun people work). I still have always enjoyed my job, more than I should have, but there was still a part of me that really hoped I could get night hours.

Well, I got them. 6 a week so far (well, 3, but twice a week)... and I'll be working with Rose, who got me the job and I have a blast with.

Rose...my freaking education related job angel, also got me an interview (and honestly, unless scheduling conflicts arise, probably the job already) at Sylvan Learning Center. I go in Friday for my formal interview.

So... I will most likely be working two jobs very shortly, I will be working way more hours than I expected... and thus will be able to pay off the insane locksmith bill very quickly. Yay yay yay.

And all this comes after a really fucking bad day. I love how the universe works!

    • Update.

      IrishWalnut

-Decided against WI even before the interview because of events that went down at my staff meeting
-At said staff meeting, I got my new schedule. I'm working 2 hours less than I did last semester, but I'm getting paid for 10 more. How? The magic of time-and-a-half. All my hours are in-classes or workshops, instead of individual tutoring, and that's better money.
-I was placed with the two professors that said they had requested me, plus 2 more really nice people. One of the professors is a person I NEED to know to become an adjunct professor. With any luck, I'll be able to do that by next spring.
-I get to meet Philip Gourevitch as a result of working with one of these new professors.
-I was offered a second job at Sylvan Learning Center working (again) with my friend Rose (she got me the job at KBCC)

-So... while I still have to go through the interview process and all... unless they have some amazing opportunity that I can't pass up, most likely I'm staying here. The autism school job was a bust, and I really do want to finish my MA with the professors I like... so whatever.
-I just got hit on, savagely, in my local grocery store... in front of my mom (who mocked my responses the entire way home). Since this was the first time in ... quite some time... that it's been anyone remotely close to my age, I was more or less dumbfounded. He also made fun of me because I bought Elmo applesauce and Zwieback toast, and obviously do not have a small child.
      -I dyed my hair burgundy.
-Rainn Wilson is fucking awesome on SNL
-Jesus is Magic (Sarah Silverman's special) made me cry tears of laughter
-I'm going to CT for the weekend...kinda... I'm sleeping over Spike's house tomorrow night.
      -That is all.

The Colts suck and there fans don't even seem to care they won the Bowl. 25,000 was the amount of Colts fans at the parade, 1,500,00 fans were at the Steelers parade, with near enough to another 1,000,000 unable to get downtown or near Heinz Field.

I saw this in a journal...

      Thank Goodness for TEACHERS!!!
The dinner guests were sitting around the table
      discussing life.

One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with
      education.

He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone
who decided his best option in life was to become a
      teacher?"

He reminded the other dinner guests what they say
about teachers: "Those who can, do. Those who can't,
      teach."

To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're
a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?"

Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness
replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused
      for a second, then began...)

"Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought
      they could.

I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of
      Honor.

I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when
their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an I
Pod, Game Cube or movie rental...

You want to know what I make?" (She paused again and
looked at each and every person at the table.)

      I make kids wonder.

      I make them question.

      I make them criticize.

I make them apologize and mean it.

I make them have respect and take responsibility for
      their actions.

I teach them to write and then I make them write.

I make them read, read, read.

I make them show all their work in math.

I make my students from other countries learn
everything they need to know in English while
      preserving their unique cultural identity.

I make my classroom a place where all my students feel
      safe.

I make my students stand to say the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag, because we live in the United States of America.

Finally, I make them understand that if they use the
gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their
hearts, they can succeed i n life.

(Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.)

"Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, I
can hold my head up high and pay no attention because
      they are ignorant...

You want to know what I make?

I MAKE A DIFFERENCE. What do you make?"
