...that there would be progress on the '305.
Here's one way you can help with that. Below are links to an absolute shitload of flat renders of the model (with some lighting to help define edges) and wireframes. If you're feeling 2D arty, I'd like to see what you can make of these. What would you put on the hull? (Note that there'll be windows all over much of the side-facing surfaces)
The above&below images are 600x800px, the rest are 1000x250px (total size of all files together is approx. 1.16MB)
Submissions before the 15th of October, if you please! Any ideas used will be credited.
Fritz: I remembered wrong... the ngon issues are with the high-poly version. The low-poly version is worse. Any suggestions?
Shura: I'm thinking of changing the hull texture to a new style, make a cool ablative armour texture (I'm thinking a honeycomb pattern of some sort) and then we can apply a mod of that texture to the F-306B and change the description of its energy weapon defences from describing the energy diffusion armour as if it's all new to describing it as "the first fighter version of the armour on the BC-305" - how's that sound?
Everyone else: any ideas or suggestions in addition to those you might want to submit in imagey form? I'm welcoming all suggestions right now.

No, Stargate New Flight still isn't cancelled... I've just completed a panoramic render designed with dual-purpose intent. Part 1: See how various things look rendered so I know what to improve next (for example, I need to increase the resolution of the white lettering) and part 2: Show off to you fine folks.
After I fix up the text, I'm gonna finally get to that central core. Then I'm gonna work on diversifying the hull a bit, making it less bland to look at.
So, want to drool over 18 seconds of 800x600 touring? Click here. Warning: This is a 25MB AVI file, don't download it if you're on Xbox Live or near a bandwidth cap, what with this being the end of the month.
Don't know what Stargate New Flight is? No problem. Go to this page for the low-down. The rest of the site is a bit haphazard at the moment and much of it is out of date, but this page and its subsidiaries are just about on course. Except the December 2009 release date should read "TBA"

So, first up, are you a speaker of the UK variety of English? Do you use Firefox? Well, here's the English(UK) dictionary. No more Yankee Doodle spellings being forced on you by a spell checker for another continent. Though you might need to remove your existing spelling checker first.
Now, here's something that happened to me this week... there's a file server in my office that's on an older workgroup of the company network - and it's constantly receiving connections from a remote computer that seems to be a domain controller for that workgroup. Not much of a problem normally, except this file server can handle 12 simultaneous connections... and there are about 40 computers in the office all trying to be in that 12 all the time. I'm constantly having to disconnect sessions that aren't doing anything to make room for someone who needs to do something.
Having one of those slots taken up by that server amounts to almost 10% of a DoS attack.
So I sent an e-mail to my contacts in the IT department, with the name of the offending computer as the subject.
Do any of you know what the above server is and why it is continually taking up one of the twelve simultaneous connections our file server can handle? It’s been making a pest of itself for months now and, through a bit of work, I’ve been able to deduce that it’s somewhere in *CENSORED* Hospital â€" probably in the switch room in the loft of building 03.
Is there any way to find out why it’s doing this and to stop it?
First answer was from the guy setting up some network drives for our office at the moment:
From what I understand it is the domain controller for *CENSORED* domain.
If you contact *CENSORED*, he should be able to give you a more definite answer
Next, his boss (the head of IT and one of the guys I e-mailed) hit Reply To All and sent this:
What has he been doing that allows him to deduce that????
I have danger signals!
The entertaining thing about this? Explained by my reply:
Someone who works here remembered that machine was in *CENSORED* Hospital. The only place up there that my plans show as having server equipment is that room. It wasn’t a difficult leap of logic.
Doesn’t make me any more capable of touching it.
Two minutes later, one of the other guys calls me to ask how I even know that computer is connecting to the server. I had to explain to an IT technician how to use the Computer Management tool in the Control Panel.
I've previously mentioned it to them, too - in a sort of "I've finally discovered this tool, so I don't need to reset the server when it denies connections. You're probably laughing at me for not knowing about it, though" way. But now the joke's on them

Lovingly stolen from my fellow Discworlder Nudge1, this is among the more epic things I have seen in random avatar clicking.
I'd put it on my screensaver at work, except it's a tad NSFW Also, I recognise the tune, but can't think what it is. If anyone can name the song and singer, I'll give them a special prize.

So, I've been a run-of-the-mill CAD operator for too long, working on old drawings of hospitals and health centres, mostly changing how they're presented, in a haphazard "needed yesterday" format. It's not been intellectually challenging and it's not been particularly interesting from an architectural standpoint.
Until this week.
In 1993 some local businessman sold his house to what was, at the time, the Health Board. No idea why. Later the same year, the Health Board gave some church an indefinite license to own and operate the house for any purpose they like, as long as they returned it when they were done.
Since then, the Health Board was dissolved and its constituent properties and staff became part of various National Health Service Trusts. Then, the Trusts were dissolved and their constituent properties and staff became part of NHS divisions, such as NHS Greater Glasgow or NHS Highland. Neither of those are my division, by the way.
So, last month, when the church called my office to say they were giving it back, the property guys had never heard of it. So they asked me to produce plans of the house. I harassed the head gardener into coming with me and bringing another gardener and we set the survey for today.
The following day, one of the office secretaries asked me if I do any projects outside of work. She and her husband are looking at getting an extension built on account of having 2 children now instead of one. And they want a dining room. So I said yeah, I'll take a look into it. Booked in a survey on Saturday.
So, now it's the end of Monday. I surveyed my colleague's house and started drawing it (thanks to having AutoDesk Revit at home as well as at work) and then went out this morning to survey this other house. It's a cracker, I could literally move in tomorrow and renovate one room at a time. We got most of the downstairs surveyed (see my images on the difference between room measuring and architectural surveying) and I did some of the upstairs after their shift finished.
And I'm gonna try and get a mortgage on it as soon as they inevitably put it on the market.
I'm really back into doing what I do, instead of plodding along with a shite but make-do database. It's fun, but it's also tiring...
Also, I'm not sure if you've all heard of the Vodka Vat, which is our take on the Drunk Tank's text version... if you haven't heard of it, you're missing out on a barre... er... a ... VAT of laughs. We post a new Vat article every Tuesday, almost without fail.
In addition, we're currently accepting suggestions for new Vat regulars - if you know of someone who would be funny (and who could handle being in a group with the user "urself") then do tell us in the recent news comments.
We've got an article ready for tomorrow and we think it'll have you in stitches. Be there or be Jaxom.
When? Where? How?
I've suggested either the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (mid-late August annually) or the week roundabout Captain Picard Day (16th of June annually) at an undecided location.
We're also talking about an official holiday (USSRvBmas) which could be at about the same time.
If you'd be interested in attending any sort of official group meetup (perhaps RvB:TO style) then let us know what times of the year work best for you so that we can choose the time that's doable for the largest percentage of the population.
If you know of somewhere (preferably near to at least a couple of Comrades, but don't let that limit your suggestions) that would make a good venue, then let us know what/where it is and why it would be good.
For reference, there are several Comrades scattered across America, Canada, Scotland, England, Sweden, Holland and Belgium. I apologise if I've missed anyone's country
Rather than just criticise site alterations, let's come up with some constructive ideas for improvements and how to roll them out.
Keep your posts constructive, as anything else in this thread (such as complaining about changes made) will be censored mercilessly.

Remember when the Drunk Tank was a text article that appeared in the RT News? We didn't think that quite deserved to die, so we're carrying the torch. As something that started in a Soviet-themed avatar trend, we call it the Vodka Vat.
If you love the Vodka Vat, join the group and show that love to the whole site!
Vat 14: Better late than never
So, we're posting on Wednesday today because apparently everyone forgot all about the Vat. That doesn't bode well, but there's currently a poll in the group we use to make these. A poll entitled "Who should NOT be b& from the Vat?" We'll see how many answers it gets. (Vat members should definitely be watching the group news of the Vodka Vote and should always click "Watch comments" when a news post goes up.
Not to worry, we're already discussing the next article's questions.
Anyway, this week, our guest is Rodgun, who was one of the Get In The Vat finalists. He's joining these Vat regulars:
Biolith - Bent on World Domination
f3licks - Surpassing titles
firewolfnin - Not a man
Jalnor - Zatman
johnnyricoMC - Pizza-addicted nutjob
If you were a shark, what kind of shark would you be?
I would most likely be a Tiger Shark. I can eat just about everything. I don't care what it is but if its infront of me, it gets eaten. Period. Just like in real life.
A fricking shark with a fricking laser on top of my fricking head, of course.
I would be a pool shark. Communism can only work if you've got plenty stuff to start with!
A half woman half white tip shark that wouldn't sleep with you.
Orange and Samsung have unveiled the first mobile phone with a fully Welsh operating system and predictive text. Why did it take 15 years?
It was a mixture of procrastination and constant jokes made around the name "Orange".
Because the nerds that were making it were to busy playing WoW.
Looking at Prince Charles, they thought Wales was so backwards they thought the Welsh didn't know what a mobile phone was.
It took 15 years because they were busy watching football and playing Rugby. Simple as that.
I concur. This sucks. Orange and Samsung should be slapped.
Latvia is pissed off at English tourists pissing on their capital's WW1 war memorial while there on stag parties. What's your take on this?
Ok, first of all, the Latvians are in their right to be pissed, no pun intended. Any memorials made to honor soldiers of either world wars is to be respected, and in fact it is very shocking that it is the BRITISH who are desecrating them like that. Then again, humanity has only been getting more stupid as of late so I'll blame that.
This is why we can't have nice things, or more specifically, why we can't let Brits near them.
Oh, the people complaining about this should just down a 6 pack and join in.
Latvia obviously need to learn the concept of electrified statues.
The tourists should be pissed on by the Latvian army veterans.

I'm about to head several hundred miles south to go see Firebug (my sister) and Rare... so my connectivity will be patchy, due to having more IRL activities available to fill my time. Thought I'd give you all a little heads-up.
I've been running about like a mad thing organising two potential Mafia Group games (sign up & vote now or forever hold your peace) and getting all the text templates to the candidate moderators... there's the Vodka Vat article to be posted while I'm on the road, so I'll leave that with someone else for the final cut-down and posting (they'll also be responsible for any header text in the article, though I'll make some suggestions)
I've just about packed... I wanted to have a shower tonight, but should have been asleep long ago. Working in the morning, y'see.
More when I slow down for a breather. Goodnight, everyone!
