As many of you know, I have dealt with a very unreliable laptop for two years up until purchasing my MacBook. Well, I finally decided to do something productive with the old laptop.

      Very productive.

    • Saturday Field Trip

      James

Seriously. I thought I left field trips behind in high school. But nope, we're going to the coast today for my Oceanography class. I woke up earlier today than I have in well over a year. The internal conversation that took place was pleasant.

Good James: "Ahh, time to wake up and get ready for an awesome field trip!"
Normal James: "Fuck you, I'm tired."
Good James: "Come on, James, we have to go to this, it's required for the class."
Normal James: "FUCK YOU, I'M TIRED."
Good James: "That attitude's not going to guarantee us a good grade."
Normal James: "FUCK. YOU. I. AM. TIRED."

Normal James is going to be very unhappy today.

    • I Know It's Stupid

      James

But I think I'm coming closer and closer to the point where I legitimately decide what I want to put my time and effort into for the future. And the past several months have made some things very clear. I'm gonna have a hard time getting through another 3 years spending thousands upon thousands of dollars, sitting in lecture halls, doing trivial assignments, and overall doing nothing to benefit my actual goal in life. It's not that school is too hard. It's that it's so distracting, so boring, so expensive, and so useless to me. I know the majority of you are going to read this and say, "No no, James, you have to go to college and get a degree so you can have a job."

No. I may be young, I may only be finishing my first year of college, but for a 19-year old, I've got a lot of my priorities in order. And school isn't one of them. I don't need a degree to excel at what I do. I don't need some signed piece of paper to speak for me. I'm more than that. I think I've known for a while that I was wasting my time and money. Now it's really becoming evident.

I want to write. As one of my professors constantly repeats, "Passion is finding something you could do every day for the rest of your life and never get bored." That's writing for me. That's my true passion.

I'm not saying that I plan to just up and drop out of college right now. I am saying that the thought is very strong in my mind.

I ask that if you do comment, please don't try and explain to me why I'm being stupid or immature. You all know me well enough to know I'm a stubborn bastard already. smiley8.gif

Updates! And just to save you some time, I will note that they are all Hull-related.

First, the winners of the MAKE YOUR OWN HULL contest have been decided! The panel took their time on getting back to me, but their decision has been made. And so, I will now present the winners with their.. winnings? By that I of course mean I'll start sending the winners their prizes once they get me their addresses and stuff. smiley8.gif

So, the 3rd place winner and recipient of the $10 GameStop Gift Card is...

      XHbNA.jpg

sensation10x with this amazing drawing of Sheridan Hull! Congratulations, Colleen!

In 2nd place, the winner of the $25 GameStop Gift Card(unless they don't have GameStop where you are, in which case we'll talk) goes to...

      p3lIH.png

Akouryo with his super awesome drawing of John Walker! Well done!

And in 1st place, receiving the free copy of Mass Effect 3 for the Xbox 360, we have...

      J9cyl.jpg

Warpek with this painting of Sheridan Hull!

Congratulations to all of the winners. I will be sending you messages shortly to receive mailing information so we can get the ball rolling on your rewards!

Now, on to less important but still Hull news. I am rapidly approaching the release of the 10th story, titled, "Burn," and I must say, it's becoming a personal favorite. There's a lot of things in this story that I've had planned since the beginning of the series, so I'm hoping people will enjoy it. To help prepare people for the story's released, I recently published this promotional video, which has the premiere of the live John Walker character. This video was also in my head for a very long time, and to see it finally come to fruition filled me with a lot of happiness and satisfaction.

If you want to be kept up to date on Hull, I have a plethora of ways for you. The stories are published on my Facebook writing page, and are then linked to several other sites, primarily being the Hull Rooster Teeth Group and the Sheridan Hull Tumblr. Keep your eyes on any one of those for the next story's release, as well as future content!

There is also a secondary Tumblr I run, titled, "Life in Newfield, From Walker's Eyes", which allows readers a glimpse into John Walker's life outside of what's written. I update it on a weekly basis, so if you want a little extra to go with the story, that'd be a good place to watch.

I think that should be enough Hull/self-posting for tonight. I hope you have all had a fantastic start to your week and I pray the week goes well for you!

Also, Dodger replied to another one of my YouTube comments. I squee'd just as hard.

My sadness from last night has been filled with the keenness of a child being handed a shiny new piece of technology. And by that, I of course mean what is about to follow.

      Out with the old...

      5hL2u.jpg

      And in with the new...

      vCfY2.jpg

I cannot begin to describe how indebted I am to my parents, both financially and just overall. In my moment of need(that being the peak of the term, where a computer is absolutely necessary) they were able to assist me and help me purchase a new, much more reliable laptop. Welcome to the world of Apple Computers, James.

And because of their timely intervention, my RTX/RvBTO travels are not compromised. I just need to pay them back over time. I cannot tell you how overjoyed I am at this.

I know it was someone here on Rooster Teeth that offhandedly linked me to this YouTube person, and now I anticipate her videos more than many of my other subscriptions simply because of how she presents her content. Who introduced me to this wonderful person? I need to give them a big hug. Or kiss. Or both.

In other unrelated but important news, my very first article was published in today's Daily Barometer!

      534943_10150913207368961_740233960_97014

As soon as I picked up the paper when I got to campus today, I flipped to the page, saw my name, and squealed. In a crowd. No regrets at all. And before leaving campus, I grabbed six more copies. I'm that giddy. If you want to read the article, there is an online version available right here, so go ahead and check it out if you'd like!

I have a list of the people who submitted entries, but I do need you to email your submission to the email address(shhull87@gmail.com) otherwise I will not be able to present it to the committee. I did a little googling...Did you try clearning out your browser history completely? Cookies, history, temp. internet files, etc. Some folks are saying if you do that, it should fix the problem.

You're in high school, right? Are you in any AP writing classes? If so, see if you can beat my record on the AP Literature exam:
      Essay lengths:
      -2 pages (exactly)
      -1 page and maybe three-quarters
-1 page, three lines onto page two (and the essay was about wrestling bears)
-slept for 50 minutes of the 120 minutes they give you
      -Score? 5

That's not my mindset for the world--not once did I mention any setting other than school. Also, just so you know, the classroom is not a democracy, nor is it comparable to one. An entirely different set of rules apply to controlling a classroom than do governing a nation. Simply stated, if a teacher tells you that you must do something in order to receive full credit for a grade, you wither follow the guidelines, or you don't get credit. It doesn't matter how well your essay was written or at what level it was written if it doesn't follow the conventions by which it was supposed to have been written. If I were to extrapolate your mindset about this to how the country is run (as you did with mine), then if everybody was like you our country would be in constant turmoil because when people think some law or rule is stupid, they will simply ignore it and do what they want.

Also, yeah, I'm totally playing the devil's advocate here; I do think what this teacher said is a little stupid, but what you need to take from this is that you are partly at fault, and you kinda need to just suck it up and do your revisions, no matter how dumb it feels. Trust me, when you're at college, you write how the teacher tells you, and you follow the guidelines they give you. Some will expect to see revisions and rough drafts; somebody saying their paper just had such a good draft no revision was needed will come of as smug and probably inexperienced--can you actually write the best paper ever on the first try? Oh, yeah, and what a teacher says the grade is based on, you do it. If you don't, it's a zero, and trust me, even if you try to take it to the dean of students or something, you're gonna lose. Welcome to the real world, it sucks a bunch here.

I use Chrome, but not solely. I'm not against Chrome or anything, but I've used four different web browsers and haven't found Chrome to be any better than another. My biggest problem with it is that pretty much every textbook/college homework website does not support Chrome, so I can't use it for school purposes really (and as a college student, that's a big part of my computer use). I also have not found it to be noticeably faster or more reliable than other browsers--it tends to drop out or misload pages just as much as Firefox and Safari ever do. So while I don't really hate it, I don't really understand everyone's fascination with something that's really not much different from its rivals.
