So this weekend my girlfriend and I ATTEMPTED to go apple picking, for like the fourth week in a row and ACTUALLY made it out the door this time for it. We got to where we THOUGHT it was, only to find out we were slightly off. Once we got to the orchard though, it was closed, which sucked. So we drove back to the shops for the orchard (we had left there to go to the 'Pick Your Own Apples' area), shopped around and eventually bought some pumpkins, cider donuts, cookies and cider. That night, we sat down with her brothers and decided to pick out our designs for the pumpkins. Her brothers chose pretty quickly. She took a little longer. By 8:30 they had sat down to carve. By 9:15 I had ONLY traced my stencil and shaded where I knew I needed to carve OUT of the pumpkin.

So once I had my stencil...

      Halo-Legendary-WHT.jpg

      I set to work.

Pinning the stencil to the pumpkin, I SLOWLY and very lightly etched into the pumpkin every line needed for the cut outs. That took about an hour, with the speed I had been carving at.

Once that was set, I pulled off the paper and began making the punch outs. That took me until 12:00 AM.

So once it was all said and done, I was COVERED in pumpkin shit, and left with a fairly AWESOME Legendary Pumpkin. It's right jaw and the left shield and sword ended up falling apart. I salvaged most of the right jaw with a toothpick, but there was no way to save the sword side. (Opposite sides when you look at it).

In any case, about 3-4 hours of work went into prep, production, and clean up. My right hand STILL hurts (we did this Saturday night) from holding the blade at it's VERY tip to etch. Probably didn't help I used my thumb and first two fingers to grip every blade past that in order to carve. Feels like carpal tunnel. smiley2.gif

And yes, I bombed the RT staff with it's image. I apologize, BUT- knowing they're big fans of Halo, I wanted to share something I thought was actually very cool. Next year I'm going to do an XBOX Power Symbol, the XBOX Jewel logo, and then probably this again. Or some other stuff. But I'm definitely attempting this again. The only disappointing thing was the learning curve. I haven't carved since I was 10 and even then I didn't REALLY carve anything. Learning to cut at the same angle, cutting steady... they're all things that screwed me in the end, but overall, I think this is pretty fucking sweet.

      Good god...

      It's been a while.

I need to express how insanely awesome Reach really is. I've been playing the shit out of Legendary, and I'm nearly done. I'm stuck on Exodus with a bunch of goddamn Brutes, Wraiths, and skirmishers, and all I need to do? Push a goddamn button.

But it's still awesome. Fucking awesome. I just finished up like four rounds of Score Attack and racked up some SERIOUS CR fast, which was great. I was getting upset it was taking so long. Even on career I don't get much. I guess using only 'Grunt Birthday', 'IWHBYD' and being on Legendary doesn't get you much of a multiplier, but there's no way I'm handicapping my ass further on Legendary.

I did figure out some seriously fast ways through Campaign though. Really, I stick to DMR's, Needle Rifles, Needlers, and Plasma Pistols. PP an Elite, swap for a DMR, and done. Takes the White and Gold Elites down in a heartbeat. It's REALLY goddamn helpful. Also, hang onto EVERY sword you find. SO helpful (especially on Long Night of Solace). Take every Drop Shield too, there's nothing more useful than throwing up a health kit over your head, block out enemy shots, AND take the time to reload. Hell, even using it just to get to some cover behind you, and use it as a shield, awesome. Plus the AI helps...a little sometimes. Let them do it. On Long Night of Solace, stick behind Savannah and the other stations, especially when ships are coming out of slip space. It helps break them up and give you a shield from the incoming enemies who just PUMMEL you coming out of slip space.

Brutes just need a tap on the helmet and once that's gone, they only need another to the dome and you're free. Gold Brutes need a few more, but the lack of a helmet helps. Shielded Heavy Brutes...well...good luck. I found a Focus Rifle thankfully and just pelted him until I found a Fuel Rod Cannon. Fourteen repeats later I managed to kill him before he blew me up with a Fuel Rod.

I look forward to more Reach. This is gonna be awesome. I'm so close to 1000 pointing it too. I need the Legendary Challenges, and thats about it. Its gonna be fun to beat this... It'd be like my... THIRD complete game. Yay...lmao smiley13.gif

    • Left 4 Dead 2

      So I'm usually a 360 gamer.

But there are certain games I've stuck to PC for.

Being a Steam member, I got HL2 and it's expansions that way (then went back for HL and all IT'S expansions). Same goes for Portal. It was easier for me. Even got TF2 the same way.

Then I bought L4D. Left 4 Dead is a great, fucking fantastic, fun as hell game. Even when you're getting your ass handed to you by guys as the infected, it's a blast. But, as we all learn, games are ported CONSTANTLY (or developed simultaneously these days more often than not).

Well, when L4D2 came out, I didn't have the money at the time to buy. My younger brother was all over it though. He loved the game, and raved. So eventually Christmas rolled by that year, and I picked it up for my 360.

I don't have a lot of friends who play their 360 as it is, so finding partners for L4D2, wasn't happening. I went back (I got L4D for the 360 too) and played L4D a lot, got some achievements, and moved on. I never cracked L4D2 open. My goal was to 100% L4D Achievement-wise, because goddamn Geoff and Burnie never stop talking about doing shit like that, and got me hooked into it. (I've got a whole whopping TWO COMPLETED GAMES! WOO!)

Anyway, once I gave up the ideal of beating L4D into the ground on SP, I just gave up. Getting online with a quick match group - I doubted I was going to have fun.

      I opened L4D2.

      Wow.

I knew all the new features and everything, but fuck is that game great. I've got one campaign left (already did the Passing in prep for the new DLC as I want it BAD), and already scooped Gnome Chompski on Dark Carnival in SP. Granted, I have a LOT of achievements to go - but this game is fun as hell.

I'm gonna go back to playing later tonight I think, but for now, I need to go.

What do you guys think, anyway?? Are you a 360 / PC gamer? Like L4D? Which do you like more? Why am I bothering with all these questions? I've gotten one comment on ONE journal. OY... smiley5.gif

      Hey guys,

So a few months ago now, UO dropped another live album, but only overseas. They released a "limited" pressing in the US (which is ridiculous if you ask me), which is currently, and forever will be, sold out in their merch store. They aren't touring with copies, or even selling them via Amazon/Zune/iTunes.

However, if you are a dedicated fan, and happened to catch them recently on tour, I'm sure you want to be a part of this.

I found a UK link, selling the CD online, and you can ship overseas. It's not going to be the cheapest, most inexpensive thing in the world, but it'll complete that collection you know you want completed.

Not sure if anyone ever got a copy of the video, but I'd love to watch. For now I have the audio end until that CD arrives here. I actually saw them live (got the first pre-ordered ticket offline) December 2nd at a local bar. The set was exactly the same, and I know from being there that the video we saw syncs up to the intro played on the CD, as well as the lead-in effects prior to every song. It was a surreal experience with the intense lighting they used. Constant strobes, and flashing blue LED's blinding everyone with this cold feeling...

      Awesome.

I can't wait to get a hold of this thing...

The set list is as follows:

      1. The Only Survivor Was Miraculously Unharmed
      2. In Regards To Myself
      3. Emergency Broadcast::The End Is Near
      4. Young And Aspiring
      5. We Are The Involuntary
      6. Anyone Can Dig A Hole But It Takes A Real Man To Call It Home
      7. Casting Such A Thin Shadow
      8. You're Ever So Inviting
      9. Breathing In A New Mentality
      10. A Moment Suspended In Time
      11. Desperate Times Desperate Measures
      12. Too Bright To See Too Loud To Hear
      13. It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door
      14. Writing On The Walls

    • Annoyance.

If my calculations are correct (and judging by the little box to my left), today is my one year anniversary on the site.

      Happy me day!

In other news, I've been an annoyance to everyone on this site for a year, today!

      Yay!

In all sincerity, it's kind of funny to think it's been a year since I joined. I've been watching RvB longer, but I never put myself into this particular online community. I kept myself secluded to a small faction on a great role-playing forum. But, here we are! I haven't been entirely social in that time, partially because of time, partially because it's awkward to approach random people on the internet when their reaction can range from "Stalker! GO AWAY!" to "Oh, hey. What's up!"

In any case, I've slowly been adding more friends, more than a few still pending from inactive users, but I've also started an Underoath Fan Group on the site and even launched a banner to gain some interest. I also sent invites to about 50 users, inactive and active, that all had interests in Underoath. (Again folks, if you don't wanna join, don't. I just wanted to see if people were interested in talking about music or Underoath).

It's hard to picture what I was doing a year ago. Around this time... I had just been to Warped Tour in Hartford and seen a ton of new bands, moshed for the first time, broke my nose in an In This Moment pit, and it was just before Mayhem Fest that year, too! Good times. I think I gotta get scans of all my ticket stubs now, and all the swag I collect from the shows I go to! I already uploaded some of them to my image gallery.

But, tomorrow I shall go camping with my girlfriend and her family to the lake. We shall be drunk and fucked up beyond imagination, and come Sunday I'll have to make the trek back with her, only to go to work Monday morning by 8:30 AM. The rest of them will be heading home Monday to rest. Bastards.

Future hangover, I loathe you. Why must you make the rum/Dr. Pepper mixture taste so unbearably amazing!? Here's hoping I make it through the weekend, let alone Monday...

to the rest of you just starting to read my nonsensical rants, feel free to read the 5 or 6 I made prior to this one. They're alright. I guess. Have never really gotten much feedback...

I know about that method, but I would never highlight it. It spoils the fun of doing it legitimately.

yeah I saw that about an hour after I posted it and forgot to change it back. Now I'll have to buy one of the old sets from a local store before there all gone. Hopefully I can get it signed at some point. That would would be worth at least a million youtube dollars.
