This is a very unique movie in that time travel is used rather differently then most times. The idea of the mob using time travel as a way of getting rid of bodies was interesting and the whole futuristic world seems fascinating. The true strength of this movie is the two stories it shows. One is Joseph Gordon-Levitt trying to get out of the mafia life and go live a peaceful life away from it all. The other is Bruce Willis going back to the past and trying to change his future and the effect it had on others around him. I these combine stories because in a way Willis is the villain despite going about his goals the wrong way and Gordon-Levitt is the hero despite being selfish in his goals. The special effects are nice to look at and the whole future world is believable and not over the top. The support cast is good with Jeff Daniels, Noah Segan and Emily Blunt all playing fun or interesting characters. Solid movie but not the "action" film it was marketed as but more of a "If you could change the future how far would you go?" story. Worth seeing for sure. 8.5/10

    • The Last of McGuinness Review

The Last of McGuinness is a documentary self-made by former wrestler Nigel McGuinness about his career and retirement from wrestling. As a wrestling fan, I was already excited to see this film (and cause I donated to help have it made). This documentary was amazing well made for an amateur filmmaker and is made almost entire of hand shot footage of his retirement tour and of some sit down interviews with friends and family. It tells the story of his rise in wrestling and how he almost made into the WWE (the largest wrestling company in the world) but how he fell short of his dreams and started to question if his career was all worth it. You see Nigel at his highest and his lowest point and see him literally questioning his whole life. Wrestling fans will enjoy the look in side the business and seeing the tragedies and heartbreaks it can bring but also the triumphs and friendships that can be found in wrestling. But everyone, wrestling fans or not, will aspirate the message Nigel is trying to convey in the film not just about wrestling but about life. A truly moving movie that can and will change your life. A PERFECT movie. 10/10

    • Searching for Sugar Man Review

Searching for Sugar Man is an absolutely wonderful documentary about Sixto Rodriguez, a musician from Detroit who despite multiple praise for his abilities at writing songs and performing didn't sell any records in the USA but somehow his music made it to South Africa and was not only a huge success but considered by many South Africans the "soundtrack of a generation" Years later, a journalist and record store owner manage to find him and tell him of all his success. It is a really great story and one that is almost too crazy to be true. Having recently listened to some of Rodriguez's music I can tell you the guy is VERY talented and can't believe he wasn't successful in the US but the crazy thing is that despite the fact he is more popular in South Africa than Elvis or Bob Dylan, he doesn't change. He stays the same humble, hard working man he was before and doesn't let this change him or how he lives his life. I think that is a great thing and a powerful message to everyone. I think this is well worth checking out so that you too can hear the story of a musician that changed an entire country and never knew. 10/10

Heard a lot about this movie and how great it was and I was very happy to find it lived up to the hype. I have never seen Bradley Cooper in a better movie and I am happy to see this guy deliver big. He is great at portraying Pat Solitano, a guy trying to recover from a mental breakdown and trying to fix his marriage. But the real show stealer is Jennifer Lawrence. A recently windowed girl with mental problems like Pat, they form a strange bond by helping each other get over their issues and you really buy into their friendship and relationship and you are invested in it. The supporting cast is great with Chris Tucker doing an awesome job and Robert De Niro FINALLY doing a good movie and does a great job as Cooper's father. The script is great and original and the dance scene at the end is very fun to watch. Kudos to both Cooper and Lawrence for learning the choreography and dance steps. Not a typical love story but a believable one and a great one and maybe one of my favorite of all time. 10/10 A MUST SEE!

    • Life of Pi Review

Heard a lot of things about this movie that is based off a book of the same name. One common thing was that is was called a book that was "impossible to make into a movie". Well thankfully director Ang Lee proved them all wrong. The Life of Pi tells the story of Piscine Patel (later nicknaming himself Pi) an indian boy who grows home with his families zoo. Through the early part of the story we see his experience with dealing with his name (his classmates calling him Pissing), his expediences with religion and meeting the zoo's new tiger, Richard Parker.
Later his family decides to move to Canada and while traveling by boat, Pi finds himself alone on a life boat with some of the animals and the rest of the crew and his family dead. We then see Pi's struggle for survival, learning to deal with his new shipmates later dwindling down to just Richard Parker, the tiger. We see a very odd bonding form between the two over time, with Pi eventually training Richard to let him be on the main boat.
I won't spoil the ending or how it plays out but I found it truly amazing as I did with the friendship of Pi and the tiger. There are some real great moments they share including one where Pi talks about the possibility of their inevitable death. Also the last scene to two share was a great scene and really heart-wrenching.
The CGI is BEAUTIFUL. The scenes of being lost at sea are great to look at and the animal animate is great too. The acting is great with Suraj Sharma as Pi at 16 is great and Irrfan Khan as adult Pi really doing a great job as the narrator. But really I think the story as a whole and what it represents is the true star here. Truly a wonderful story and a great movie. Worth seeing for sure. 9/10

    • Perks of Being a Wallflower Review

Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of those movies that flew under the radar for most. A shame because I think more people should have seen this movie. The movie stars Logan Lerman as Charlie, an emotionally changed and shy kid starting high school. We see him trying to fit in and eventually making friends with Sam and Patrick played by Emma Watson and Ezra Miller respectively He bonded with the groups and falls for Sam all the while becoming more out going and open about his life and with the people around him.
The main cast: Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller and Mae Whitman are all great and really make these characters fun to watch. You enjoy watching them talk and the diolauge is all very natural and feels like stuff high schoolers would say. The chemistry is great as well. Charlie and Sam' chemistry is the most fun to watch and see how is develops. Logan Lerman really has a shot at being a great actor in the future while Emma Watson showed she won't just be someone that lives off Harry Potter fame. Patrick aka Ezra Miller is hilarious and really does a nice job and I hope to see more of him soon. Paul Rudd is also great in his small support role as Charlie's English teacher. Wish his role was larger
While this movie has its lighter side, it also has a darker side. The issues that main of the characters face can feel all too real for many people. Charlie's story is really interesting to see move along during the movie and I like how the ending teases a happy ending then moves even darker before he is truly able to over come his issues (Classic "darkest before dawn"). I really applaud this movie for taking the typical high school movie and make it feel real and fresh and not being afraid of hitting close to home. 8.5/10

    • Top 5 Love Stories in Movies

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: As a video gamer, comic and just an all around nerd it was very fun to see a movie that was focused on characters that shared many of my interests. I liked this love story a lot due to the somewhat real factors. We can't choose when we fall for someone, even if we are dating around person at the time. I also liked they showed some real chemistry and both had their own personal issues each had to get over to be with each other. Showing us that no one, no matter how much we love them, is perfect.

Silver Linings Playbook: This movie was another film that showed us how people have to over come loved ones personal issues even if we love them. I really liked the natural feeling of attraction both Jennifer and Bradley gave off whenever they were on screen. Both seemingly testing the waters of what the other was like and if they were right for them, much like real people would.

Slumdog Millionarie: This was a great film at showing the long term build of a relationship. We see Jamal and Latika as children just as friends but as they grow we see the seeds of a real relationship grow and when forced about we see how much effort Jamal puts into finding her again and be with her despite her belief it won't happen. I also like the theme of fate playing a part in them finding each other and ending up together as we all hope our own life will play out in that way

Stranger than Fiction: While maybe not a true "romantic" movie, it does have one of my favorite love stories in it. We meet Harold as someone very straight forward and professional while Ana is the opposite (classic opposites attract) and while Harold instantly finds her attractive, we have to wait a while before Ana shows interest. We then see a great scene of them sharing a meal and the moment where Harold finally learns to relax and when Ana sees the side of him she likes.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: An absolutely AMAZING movie. We meet Joel who finds out his long time girlfriend, Clementine has erased him from her memory after a bad fight between the two. Not wanting to deal with the break up, Joel wants to do the same. One thing that I love most is the fact we are introduced to the characters at the end of the relationship when it is at its worse, we then go back in time to see the seeds of what made it fall apart but also why these two fell in love. During this whole time we see Joel remembering the good times too and regretting ever wanting to lose those moments because of how great they are much like many of us who have suffered heart break. But the real this is my favorite is due to the ending where despite both not knowing each other anymore, they still find each other again and once again fall in love. Making us wonder if it is fate or luck, we never know. And also once they find out the truth, that they were once together and then forgot each other, they still go through with the relationship choosing to have those wonderful moments together even if it is possibly doomed to fail. Is that what love is all about? Taking a risk on something that makes you happy even though it is possible to end in heart break?

    • Django Unchained Review

Saw Django Unchained tonight. Here is my review: Being a Tarantino movie, you should know right away that this will be something worth watching. Well this is worth watching and re-watching over and over again because it is a classic. First off the script and dialogue of this movie is great, definitely has that Tarantino feel to it and there are many great monologue scenes where it is easy to become in-traced with what the characters are saying. The acting is also great with Jamie Foxx in what maybe his best (or at least my favorite) role yet as Django who gives Jules from Pulp Fiction a run for his money as the most "bad ass motherfucker" in a Tarantino film ever. Christoph Waltz is once again magical on screen. Tarantino knows how to write for him and Waltz knows how to being Taratino's characters to life. These two need to work together more. Leonardo DiCaprio is great as well able to pull off being charming and sophisticated and maybe even someone you would like to talk to and then be scary and intense and someone you can't wait to see be shot in the head. And of course Samuel L. Jackson is... Samuel L. Jackson. Seriously everytime he was on screen I was laughing at him. One of the funniest roles this year. The soundtrack for this movie is also great and maybe the best of the year and definitely Tarantino's best since Pulp Fiction. This movie has no flaws in my eyes expect for maybe a little too much blood and gore for some people. This is one not to miss for sure! 10/10
