Well... it's been a--whoa, holy shit! This site's changed!

Before all you start saying "where the fuck have you been bruh," let me clarify that I saw the new site when it debuted and I think that aside from a bug here and there, it's pretty good. It's got a ways to go though. There's my opinion on the new site. (Major props to the Tech Department for allowing us the opportunity to change our name without messaging a community manager or whoever, by the way. That's a huge help, and I really appreciate that!)

Now the real news. (insert obligatory trollface here)

I'm beginning my final semester at community college rather soon, and I will be a college graduate at the end of the year! It's so hard to believe that after all this time, all the hardship I went through and all the money, I'm finally going to be finishing up stage two of my higher education career and move onto stage three. (Stage one was prep school, that was two years ago.) Between my failing out of UMaine, getting cheated on by my ex-girlfriend, fighting the school administration, and all this unnecessary and avoidable bullshit that I admit I put myself into, it's finally paying off. I'm one proud dude in a spiff-ass suit right now, and I'm on top of the world, sharing it only with one person.

Yep, that's right, I'm in love with a girl! She's been such a strong supporter of me in my life these last four months we've been together, and I love talking to her and making her smile and being with her and so many other things that involve her. She makes me happy every single day and I'm forever grateful to have her in my life.

Meanwhile, in my quest of being a professional college student, I've been slowly taking over the world like the way Robin Lord Taylor takes over the city of Gotham in the TV show on Fox. Except without the dead bodies, of course. Lol. I've received a $900 scholarship, which pays a massive portion of my tuition, my GPA has consistently remained above a 3.0 since the end of last summer, I was an officer at my student newspaper last year, and the biggest news of all?

      I'M A PUBLISHED EDITORIAL WRITER!!!!!

That's right, I got that baby published in three different Connecticut newspapers, one of which is incredibly close to the New York media market (the biggest market in the country along with Los Angeles). The tl;dr version goes like so:

      • The Connecticut Community Colleges are run by a quasi-political entity called the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education.
      • This board likes to raise our tuition. A lot.
      • The money they get from tuition raises goes to empty administrative jobs that pay six-figure salaries for pushing papers and not working with students.
      • Faculty that work with students are being laid off and programs, a lot of which are new, are being shut down.
      • Other administrators that see how much of a shit-show this is are leaving voluntarily and students are following.
      • As a result, tuition money collected by the school is lower than forecast, and the cycle repeats.

So yeah. My editorial explained that in short, with some colorful but semi-PC language, and really struck a few nerves. I've finally made it guys!

A few other briefs from my life (I love this new bullet-point feature),

      • I got a job working at my local Five Guys restaurant, and I'm making stupid bank. in both paychecks and tips. Ka-ching!
      • I recently got into cosplay thanks to my beautiful girlfriend and I attended ConnectiCon 2015 as three characters: Harvey Bullock from Gotham, Professor Ozpin from (you KNOW!), and Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu from Super Dangan Ronpa 2 on my girlfriend's recommendation. (Those that understand DR know that Kuzuryu and Peko are super shippy, so we did that together and we had people squealing at how cute we are.) I'm a maybe on attending New Hampshire's AAC, PAX East 2016, Anime Boston 2016, New York ComicCon 2016, and other things that may fill the void. I'm shooting for Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh at at least one of those, by the way.
      • Last March going into April, I volunteered with the State DOT to help people around our new rapid transit system, CTfastrak, which I've discussed previously here, I think. That was a total blast and I wish I could do that every day of my life.
      • I made a Tumblr. Two, actually. The first one, my main one, is laporting4duty, and my blog title is a Walt Whitman quote from my favorite poem ever, "O Me! O Life!." The second one is an aesthetic blog, called featsofhumanity, geared towards public transportation and skyscrapers here in the Northeast. I'll be making some trips to Boston and New York soon, so pictures and videos from both of those cities will be good. (World Trade Center Transportation Hub, here I come you beautiful, ethereal beast!)

That's pretty much it for my life. I feel like the Rooster Teeth site is like that ex-girlfriend that you still have a good relationship with, but that you don't really talk to very often because it's awkward. I'll continue to try to post as much as I can here, but no guarantees. If you want to see me on the regular, follow my Instagram @beastblood4li4e and my Tumblr @LaPorting4Duty. I'm always there.

      Until next time,

      "Be excellent to each other."

-Bill from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

(Also, on some REAL shit, even bigger thanks to the Tech Department for getting rid of that annoying-ass character limit! Jesus God, that drove me insane!)

I know it's been a while, but I need some serious help.

Anyone want to give me some good pointers on cleaning viruses off my PC?

UPDATE: Disk Cleanup and Malwarebytes work wonders on a PC. My problem's been fixed. Thanks to @Kevinet496 for the suggestion, though!

This girl... is amazing. I cannot get her voice outta my head.

My friend and I came up with a theory about her, actually. She is an angel sent down from heaven by God to entertain us all. And when she sleeps with a guy (Ed Sheeran, Niall Horan, Skrillex), her angelic powers suck the talent out of them and she uses it to make her music that much more beautiful.

I mean, I hate Fifty Shades (and I can say that cause I saw that movie), but you CAN'T deny this song is amazing:

Are me and my friend right or wrong about that?

I'm going to hold off on posting my review of Fifty Shades of Grey here because I wrote it for my college newspaper. I'd almost feel like I'm plagiarizing my own work, and I don't want to do that. Give my editors a day or two and I'll have a link for you.

This movie sucks. I saw it this morning. Only go if you're a nymph or if your significant other is making you go, and ONLY IF.

EDIT: OK, so that's not totally fair. A full review will be posted momentarily.

    • I'm You: Backstrom Review

      LaPorting4Duty

Looking for good TV? Fox is really hitting it out of the park this season. Between the ever-increasing popularity of Empire (which got renewed after its second episode) and the coming end of the first season of Gotham (which was renewed at the same time as Empire), there's plenty of good to enjoy there. But there's one more show which is kind of flying under the radar.

Newcomer Backstrom features the detective for which the show is named after, Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson, The Office) as a washed-up detective in the Portland, Oregon Police Department, but who is also totally brilliant. He solves his crimes by putting himself in the shoes of the people he's working with. He pries open their psyches and picks them apart piece by piece to find crucial answers. Alongside him are Detective Nicole Gravely (Genevieve Angelson, House of Lies), Detective John Almond (Dennis Haysbert, 24, Major League and Allstate commercials), forensics expert Peter Niedermayer (Kristoffer Polaha, Life Unexpected) and Officer Frank Moto (Page Kennedy, Blue Mountain State and Vine fame), almost all of whom find Detective Backstrom completely intolerable.

The show is an excellent blend of funny and serious, between Rainn Wilson's opening scene in the second episode where he's smoking a cigar defiantly in front of the scene of an arson, and when he gets shot in the first episode. I feel that some of the small talk is a little forced, and some of the characters are kind of unnecessary, but nevertheless, it's still a great show for what it's worth.

If you've got some time and aren't into NBC's The Blacklist (which this show competes with; they're in the same time slot), take a chance on this one. Thursday nights at 9 after American Idol.

    • The Inbetweeners Movie Review

      LaPorting4Duty

Recently, on the passive recommendation by Gavin and Geoff, I finished watching all three seasons of The Inbetweeners. If you've never heard of it, it's a super raunchy British comedy about four high school boys (secondary school for the rest of the world) who are trying to live the craziest time of their lives whilst not totally fitting into any particular social clique. They get wicked drunk, fail many times at having sex, get into serious trouble, break a ton of shit, and get hassled by their school's headmaster as well as their parents all on a regular basis.

A movie was released in 2011 starring the same cast, and it is exactly what British National Lampoon would be like if it existed. The four boys, Will McKenzie (Simon Bird), Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas), Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison) and Jay Cartwright (James Buckley) all graduate from school and for a graduation present, their parents treat them to two weeks on a Greek island by themselves. All is good and what can pass as normal for them, except that Simon is having a terrible time trying to get over his now ex-girlfriend, Carli D'Amato (Emily Head). It's so bad for him that even when he's trying to flirt with other girls, he always brings the topic up, and it's obviously a huge turn-off.

Add a fight between two of the boys, several hardcore party scenes, the dorky Will puking in a water well as a result of too much to drink in one night, a couple of hangovers, a terribly hilarious dance routine, the total hotshot who always screws everything up, and the typical "everyone hooks up and lives happily ever after" ending, and there's your movie. It's almost 100% cliche, but the juvenile, raunchy, irreverent, cringe-worthy comedy is what sets it apart from every summer party movie ever made.

If you're a fan of the series, watch it. If you haven't seen the series and you want to watch the movie, do yourself a favor and watch the series first. Some of the jokes require a bit of prior knowledge, such as explaining why Will is a virgin. And yes, that is a joke that's only funny if you've seen the series. I would recommend watching this if you're having a house party with a few friends, you all get super drunk and you want to watch a goofy movie, or if you've seen all the episodes of the series and want to watch a movie spin-off when you finish it.

The TV series and the movie are both available for streaming on Netflix.

    • Dreams

      LaPorting4Duty

I've seen two journals this morning about dreams. So I'm sharing one that still sticks out in my head from... a month and a half ago or so.

It was a nice late Wednesday morning. Warm, sunny, not a cloud to be seen. Cool stuff, right? I imagine so. On a whim, I decide to go outside and take it all in. Then, I hear a low, bass-filled hum coming from the sky. Naturally, I think it's like two or three planes all heading in different directions on different approaches to one or more of three different airports we have in my area. I look up in the sky, and to my surprise, I was actually kinda wrong. It was three planes, yes, but they were all flying in the same direction, like a flyover. And they belonged to an organization I'd been a part of since I was 14. (For legal purposes, I won't reveal the name, but if you really want to know, then just do some research on my profile and you'll find the name. Please don't comment if you do.)

What scared me the most was what I saw next. Out of nowhere, I see parts of the sky go from the light blue that we know and associate with clear, sunny sky, and they darkened. Not to grey, but to a darker blue. And these parts were also shaped like planes. But they weren't small craft like what my organization flies, no, they were much, MUCH bigger. Like C-5s, but even bigger than that. They were carrying something huge. And that bass-filled hum wasn't that much of a hum anymore. It was the sound of full-on jet engines. Those plane outlines dropped a few thousand feet out of the sky, so that the camouflage that they had with the color blue became very obvious, and that jet engine sound was vertical thrusters that had been installed on the planes to keep them from crashing when they do that. Mind you, all of these aircraft were flying in the same direction: north.

By the time those behemoths had gotten to their desired altitudes, they were no longer dark blue. They were grey. All of a sudden, fighter jets start passing over my house at very high speed. It was clear enough that they had their afterburners on. More fighter jets flew out the back of the gigantic planes, then turned around and started following the other fighters. Then, I start seeing puffs of black smoke in the sky, like spontaneous bursts of black smoke among the tens of hundreds of aircraft. But what happened next was confirmation that this was no exercise. I see more fighter jets. They were shaped differently from the jets I was seeing fly north. And they were going south instead.

All of a sudden, it hit me: it's an all-out dogfight over my house. And I'm not only the only one here, but I have nowhere to go. All of my cars are gone. In total horror, I have to stay and watch as I see American and Russian aircraft get blasted to pieces right over my house. An F-15 takes a damning hit from a MiG, and the fuselage is heading straight down toward my property. It crashes into my dad's garage, which is separate from my house, destroying it. The behemoths are doing everything they can to stop these MiGs from causing too much damage to the ground, so turrets pop out of the sides of these planes and open fire on the fighters, shredding them to pieces and the now pieces of the fighters quickly start losing altitude and hitting the ground.

I have a few close calls with some stray bullets from the turrets, but I'm OK. Then, a MiG hits one of my planes and it gets wrecked. There isn't even a fuselage left, all that's left from the hit is a wing and propeller tips. One of the prop tips heads down to my house and gets lodged in the end of my room near my computer. I head up to my room to assess the damage, and miraculously, everything is fine, except of course for my ceiling and my floor.

Who wins? I have no idea, I had woken up too early to find out. I think we won, but I'm not sure if the Russians had equivalents to the behemoths the Americans had which dropped out of the sky in the beginning of the dream. I didn't even see any helicopters, it was all fixed-wing aircraft. Also, I hadn't played any war-like video games in weeks, including Call of Duty, and I hadn't seen any super suspenseful movies that involved shit blowing up.

      But yeah, that's my dream.

    • Classes Start Today

I'm not stressed at all about this semester. I should be, but I'm not. For the first time ever in Manchester, I'm doing four classes in a semester, and a few of them are not gonna be easy (Intro to Literature and US History I). Aside from that, I'm slightly nervous as to how my other two classes, Intro to Theater and Intro to Computers, will be. (Yes, Intro to Computers is a gen ed course at my future school. Stupid shit, I know.)

Rate My Professor, which the college utilizes for end-of-semester feedback, gave my Intro to Computers professor three stars out of five, citing that she is disrespectful, questions peoples' intelligence, and does not fully answer peoples questions about things they need to know before an exam or whatever. My Theater professor has not been rated at Manchester because she's coming from another school, apparently, but I needed to order like five books for her class, so I'm afraid of having a ton of reading to do on top of a ton of reading AND writing for my Literature class and US History.

      Is my situation normal?
