    • Can't anyone form their own opinions?

I am so sick and tired of people jumping on bandwagons and passing judgement on subjects of which they have no knowledge. It seems everyday there is a new vegan swayed by the bright colours and naked women splayed across PETA's adds or a new environmentalist trying to save the planet because Al Gore told them too, even though his movie possesses very little actual scientific data. In a world where information is so easily accessible to us, more and more people rely on getting their opinions from a poster or a celebrity.

My recent anger on the subject was caused by a celebrity, blindly supporting a cause with absolutely no knowledge on the subject, a celebrity I had previously thought to be one of the few with a voice supporting actual good causes. Ellen Degeneres was slammed with negative comments on her website after posting an article about stopping the Canadian seal hunt. Those defending the seal hunt on her site proudly wrote well put and thought provoking comments filled with fact and even sources where others could receive the same information where her supporters could only manage a short " You are so barbaric" or " You people disgust me". The only thing in the short article bashing Canadian fisherman that was recognizable as trying to be a fact was the statement that seals, sometimes aged less than 3 months old were brutally killed. A statement quickly proved by her maritime Canada fans to be completely unfounded as the harvesting of seal pups has been illegal since 1987. I just can't believe that someone with so much power and influence on the world can post something so completely wrong and clearly not researched and get away with it. And don't even get me started on PETA! An organization with so much influence it could use for good and all it does is pull attention grabbing stunts on incredibly poorly researched causes and lure in lazy celebrities to busy to learn for themselves what they are supporting so they just trust whatever they are told.

Books like "Eating Animals" or documentaries like "Food Inc" are causing people to drastically change their lifestyles without even a thought of looking at the other side of things. Although a lot of information in these is great they heavily focus on meat being bad and vegetables being good. With Veganism being such a hot subject right now no one even cares about the horrors that go on through the production of produce, Food Inc does briefly talk about produce but it's still heavily based on the meat industry. Does anyone even care that DDT is still manufactured in the US even though it's illegal to use on crops? It's then sold to countries who can't afford anything else for their pest management on their crops. Where do you think food is imported from half of the time? These countries! So although it's illegal and you think you are avoiding it, chances are you are still getting food covered in the harmful toxin.

I guess what this rant is really trying to get at is that in a day and age when no matter who you are you have the power to find out information for yourself and still the majority of the world is so grossly misinformed on important topics that it blows my mind. I'm not saying everyone has to think like me or agree with my opinions but at least look at the information available to you! Don't just look at information supporting your beliefs either, look at the facts of both sides of an argument before you choose which side to fight for. If you are going to form an opinion and stand up for it, make sure it's well researched before you go running around chaining yourself to cows or you will just end up looking foolish. Opinions are yours and yours only, you can change them, defend them and share them so why not make them worth fighting for. The information is out there, you just have to open your eyes and see it.

huh, so you've still got a while... I start back up here in less than a month. I've always wondered why there can be so much difference between starting times of different Universities.

So when do you head off to the University?

Biology is a lot of fun, depending on the teacher of course. As it stands, I'm going into pharmacy, so I'll be in the science track for a long time.

Not a problem. Congratulations on getting accepted to university, by the way. Do you have any idea what you want to study yet or are you just going to wing it?

That's about what I play in a nutshell. This sums up my experience with Link to the Past so far. I'm still a bit too traumatized to return to it yet.

If you think a Lab is crazy I don't think you've ever experienced a border collie.

Owning a lab is just so intense in every way possible, feeding, playing, loving, annoying.... that every other dog just can't compete once you've exspirienced. I probably roll my eyes at them half the time, but they make up for it and then some the other half.

Labs are the best! My wife and i actually have two, black and chocolate. We love them both, but we each kind of have one that likes to stick by our side. The Cholocolate is "mine." She is almost 2 1/2 now. She's a lover and is really fun and adventerous. The other one is almost 6 and he's become the grumpy old man of the house... he's still a lot of fun though as well.

Once you've gone lab, for as nutty and insane as they can be, there's just no going back.
