    • Back from a wedding.

      Link1264

As a matter of fact it was the first wedding I have ever been to. It was the wedding of this friend that I have known since the 7th grade. I am too exhausted to go into all the details right now, especially since I have already recaped the whole thing twice. One recap was for my mom, the other for my sister.

The big thing that I want to vent about was that on the flight back from Orlando to Austin, we sat on the tarmac for over 2 hours because of weather. The whole flight from Orlando to Austin only takes 2 and a half hours. That annoyed the crap out of me. Also, I got bitten a ton by various bugs while out there.

And finally, there is a show I want to recommend. If I have already spoken about this then I apologize for not remembering. It's called Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The reason why it's so amazing is because of the surprises that you get along the way. They build the plot up to where you think you know what is going to happen, and then something else happens instead, and it is never something happy. It's the drama that makes the show, it does drama better than I have seen anywhere else.

Also, after the first season they did a short 6 episode prequel season called Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and the drama in that one was even better. However, if you don't watch the first season you will not know who some of the characters are and you will not get the full emotional impact of everything that happens.

Be warned though, there is lots of nudity in it. So make your plans accordingly in case you live with family who does not approve or watching such stuff with family would be really awkward.

I found out about this guy who writes scathing reviews of video games called "Yahtzee" on a website called "The Escapist".

Even if you don't agree with his preferences on games (because I know I don't) I am sure you guys will be able to get some laughs from them. He uses more intellectual humor than any other game reviewer I have seen.

Here is a sample review for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

      www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/75-Oblivion

And if you like what you see there, this is the link for the whole list of his reviews:

      www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation?page=10

I have just found his videos to be such a welcomed source of humor that has some substance behind it that it would be mean of me not to share it with you guys.

Be sure to let me know what you guys think.

First and foremost, Happy Easter everyone!

Seriously, so much stupid crap has been going on that I just can't get through all of it.

Mostly, a friend of mine is going to be getting married on the 13th of May and for awhile, it looked like I was going to be a groomsman. Problem is, those of you who have handy access to a calendar will notice that that is a Friday. The 13th is the anniversary of their first date and that's why she wants to have it then. However, because the wedding is on a Friday, and since people have to work, she was going to have the rehersal and rehersal dinner the Saturday BEFORE the wedding, and as a groomsman I would have to be there for that. Spend an entire week out there just because she wants to go against tradition and do a wedding on a weekday. And they needed all these measurements from me for the tux that I had never heard of before. However, one of her bridesmaids had a falling out with her and they asked me if I was ok with not being a groomsman so they could have an equal number. So now I am just going to fly in Wednesday and leave Saturday and don't need clothing besides a shirt and slacks that I already have.

Then came the next problem. He and his soon-to-be bride are leaving on their honeymoon right after the wedding. The flight back to Texas at the Orlando airport, which is 2 hours from where he lives, is only once a day at 2:40 pm. We had to figure out a way to get me back to the airport. We were hoping a mutual friend of ours would be able to drive me there since it's on his way back to where he now resides in Talahassee (I know that's not spelled right and I don't care). However, he too is going to be leaving that Friday night for some reason that makes no sense to me. In the end, the bride's brother is going to drive me to the airport. I just hope he is reliable, the last thing I want to do on my weekend is spend 24 hours in an airport.

Then there is all this crap that my parents have been going through with this jackass lawyer they hired to help with the estates of my mom's mom and her husband, who they have now cut ties with because he is an asshole. To sum it up, my day said one day that if he had a terminal illness, that he would kill this lawyer. My dad never uses hyperbole in that way. That would mean he was serious.

And then there are smaller annoyances. I got two texts that were written in spanish and I just disregarded them. My mom calls me up because on the bill it shows two international texts at 20 cents a piece. So I copied the texts and the translation of them (turned out to be a fraudulant thing saying I won some prize) and the numbers they came from and emailed them to my mom because it's not right that we had to pay for texts sent from a scam and that she is going to try and get those numbers blocked and reported.

And then on Friday there is a note in my door telling me that on Monday from 10am to 5pm the water is going to be shut off in complex where I live to fix a water valve problem. They have no idea exactly how long it will take. I was planning on doing a DIY repair on something in my apartment on Monday that required water. Now I have to change that and come up with something to do that will keep me out of the apartment all day.

In gaming news, I got the Orange Box. It has Half-Life 2, HL2 episodes 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2, and the greatest reason of all the get the Orange Box.....PORTAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My GOD I love that game. So much so that I got Portal 2 as well. And THAT was awesome as well. Didn't like the background on what GLaDOS is and how she was created but other than that the game was perfect!!!! The humor in it was great and all 3 of the actors: Ellen McLain, Stephen Merchant(UK version of The Office), and J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson from the Spiderman movies) were all perfect in their roles.

Those of you who haven't done so yet, really need to play the Portal 1 and 2 ASAP. They are short and you may not want to replay them so rent them, but you must play them somehow. Anyone who loves dark humor MUST play them. You will never laugh so hard while playing a game in your life.

As far as the HL2 games go, I beat HL2 and episode1 and started on ep 2. They are ok. I don't see what the big deal is about them. People say it is perfectly paced and designed and I will tell you it is NOT. Alot of HL2 was a drag and confusing as hell because no one wants to tell you where you should go during the revolt in the last part of the game. Just frustrating. I had to force myself to finish some parts of them. The recently released Crysis 2 has MUCH better pacing to the point that I played it all in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down.

As far as TF2.....the little video clips on Youtube introducing all the classes are alot more fun than actually playing the game. I suggest you watch them, as they are also hilarious in a dark humor way. The following are my personal favorites, and if any video says i'ts no longer available, don't trust them, they all work:

      Meet the Engineer:
      www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNgNBsCI4EA&feature=channel_video_title

      Meet the Sniper:
      www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NZDwZbyDus&feature=relmfu

      Meet the Demoman:
      www.youtube.com/watch?v=han3AfjH210&feature=relmfu

      Meet the Scout:
      www.youtube.com/watch?v=geNMz0J9TEQ&feature=channel_video_title

Then there is the frustrationg of looking for work whille at the same time worried about how I am going to get to the wedding if I have a job and then feeling like I should not look for one until after the wedding, and then feeling resentful towards this guy because I should have to have my life inconvienienced like putting of looking for a job because of his life. Just alot of crap.

Well, that's all that has happene with

First order of business. Since RvB apparently took the image links out of my journal before you saw them, I will just give you the link to my photobucket account so you guys can see the pics I took the day we had snow:

      s160.photobucket.com/albums/t181/link1264/

Secondly, I had typed out most of this journal before I accidently hit the wrong keys and wound up going to a site in my bookmarks and, therefore, lost everything I typed, so this will be less detailed than before.

The title of my journal comes from the following short video found on Youtube:

      www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVXCr6upWUo

I used that title because recently an early build for the PC version of a big game hit the internet and is now found on torrent sites all over the internet. The game is Crysis 2. Seeing as how I played the first one, which ended on a cliffhanger, and there has been all this talk that the sequel will function kind of as a reboot, I was curious and worried. Therefore, I downloaded it and played it.

Overall, it was good. People who haven't played the first will enjoy it more than those who have played Crysis 1. That is because only one character from the first game is in it, and you never find out what happened to the others. And the design and intentions of the aliens are definitely different than in the first game. But I still think it was good and as long as the PS3 version of the game isn't a disaster, I will be buying it when it is released on March 22.

I just logged in and noticed that RvB took out all my picture links to the photos I took of the snow we had awhile ago. Very annoyed.......

Other than that not much going on. I really need to get my ass in gear and get stuff done. I have mostly just been lazing around recovering from having to travel all the way over here with my parents. And now my sleep schedule is off again and I have to make sure I stay up all day today so I can get back into a normal routine.

      How are you guys?

Today I woke up and looked out my window. See, I live on the second floor, and a few days ago some water from a rain storm had turned into ice. And someone had put a blanket over the ice so people wouldn't slip. Well, I was looking at the extended weather forecast from yesterday and it said that today would have a high of 40 something. This is warmer than it has been recently. So I look out my window to see if the blanket was now sitting in a puddle of water....and it isn't.....everything is covered in white. SNOW!!!!!!!!!

Understand, this is the first time I have seen snow in my life.

You guys haven't heard from me in a while because of all the craziness of trying to find a place to live in. The week after Thanksgiving I stayed at my parents' place and then flew to Austin, TX with my dad to find an apartment. We found one that is well priced. The people working in the office gave the impression that I should get it no problem, though it may take 30 days for this to all sort out.

Austin seems like a neat place. Had lots of great meals while I was there.

Came back to Florida, drove back to Gainesville, then drove to visit my friend out in the boondocks for one last visit and to get my copy of Darksiders back from him. Drove back to Gainesville, spent the time preparing for the move and as of bright and early today am in the process of moving out of Gainesville. It is a NIGHTMARE!!!! There is so much stupid stuff that they make me do that doesn't really count of "expected wear and tear." There are some scuff marks on walls that I must paint over with touchup paint. And just trying to move all this crap out of the apartment and into a moving truck takes such a long time. I hope my parents and I can be back in south Florida by tomorrow, but it may have to wait till Saturday.

I contacted the utilities company to tell them to turn off my services on the 23rd, which is 3 full business days after I move out and the property owners require in the less that I do. The utilities informs me that they will be closed from the 23rd to the 26th. So I had to turn off my services on the 27th. I better not rack up a huge bill.

Also, my cable services (TV and internet) cut out sometime tomorrow, so I am writing you guys this now while I still can. Just letting you know I am ok, but won't be able to get in touch much until the new year when I move.

I wish you all happy holidays and a very happy new year!

And here is some funny stuff I found. The first clips are from a funny Australian show called Good News Week. The host was part of a very successful musical comedy band, hence the singing at the end of the first clip. The final clip is from the stand up routine of one of my favorite comedians who has appeared on GNW. Be warned, all the following clips contain explicit language, but are also hilarious.

Some Aussie terms to know to understand this stuff better:

-rooting, let's root = to fuck, mostly in the casual sense

      -phany = slang for vagina

The title is from an Adidas commercial you would think I'd hate. But for some reason, I think it's funny.

      www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsC8NjsMcjg

Anyways, the only thing I can think to talk about is that I finished up a PC game I bought a few weeks ago called The Witcher. It's based on a very popular(in Europe at least) series of fantasy novels from a Polish author.

Overall, I enjoyed it. However, if you plan on trying it you should be warned, the game has ALOT of intricacies to learn. And basically it will be hours before you learn it all. Which is something I don't like. Which is why I restarted my game about 4 times before I finally decided to stick through until the end. And due to all these little details that take awhile to learn, I suggest you play your first time on the easiest difficulty setting, I don't care how good you think you are at games.

The aspect that takes the longest to learn is alchemy. It takes awhile to not only figure out how to make certain potions, blade oils, and other substances but also lots of battling and trial and error to see their pros and cons. That is why I recommend you play on Easy until you master it, because on the higher difficulties, alchemy use is a necessity to survive.

The combat in the game is point and click. However, they added a little twist by putting a timing mechanic in it. Basically, you click an enemy and you start an attack. It is a two hit strike. At the end of those two hits, the sword icon of your mouse will have this yellow looking energy around it. Click while it's like that, and you will go on to the next set of attacks in a chain. Keep doing this and you build up to longer and more powerful chains. But if you click too soon or too late, you kill the chain and have to start over.

The combat is mostly fun, however, none of the cameras are really suited for point and click style attacking. There is a view that is over the shoulder and one that is high up overhead. Each has it's own stupid thing that is annoying in combat. With the overhead camera, I had a hard time continuously clicking on enemies to build up a chain because they try jumping straight back away from your attacks and I couldn't get my mouse back over the enemy in time to click for the next attack. Because they jump straight back, the over the should view helps with this problem, but OTS has it own problem. When a group of monsters would surround me in OTS, I would start an attack by clicking on the enemy in front of me, but on the second attack it would go and attack the enemy directly behind me because the camera is so close that the game thought I clicked on the enemy behind me when I was trying to click on the one in front. But these are not game-breaking problems.

On to better stuff. The story is very well done. One of the great things about it is that you get to make choices that have a serious affect on how later parts of the game play out. And the effects are not minor, topical effects. Certain choices dramatically alter the game. For example, in an early mission I was doing for pay, I was protecting a merchants shipment from these lake creatures that come out and damage his stuff. After I finish that, a group of elves comes out and I find out that the merchant is doing business with them and the supplies are for them. They are a group of non-human terrorists. In one playthrough I decided to let them have the supplies. But I later restarted the game for the reasons I stated earlier and gave them the supplies that time. Later, when there was a mission that involved me getting info from this guy in town, I completed it the first time, but the second time I couldn't because I went to the bar and discovered he had been assassinated by that terrorist group with the weapons I let them have.

But those are just decisions. They actual setting and story are good. Witchers are basically humans that have gone through training and mutation making them faster and stronger than humans as well as immune to disease, but they are sterile. They also have some magic powers, but nothing compared to mages and sorcerors. They are problem solvers for hire for the world and strive to maintain neutrality when picking sides. Your character was attacked and thought dead at the beginning, but is found alive and brought back to the Witcher's stronghold. Turns out he has lost his memory. The castle is attacked by a group of thugs led by a mage. They steal the Witchers' famous mutagens. The surviving Witchers split up to look for them. Your guy goes to a Northern Kingdom called Temeria. The great thing about this game is that not only do your choices affect the overall narative of the game, but it is not presented as a good path or bad path. Every decision is just the decision you made and is not viewed as being good or bad.

The story part has some weaknesses. The voice acting is not good with the exception of a few standouts. And the few good actors suffer from having bad dialogue to read. Also, because the dialogue is bad and most actors aren't good, I didn't realize the twist ending until I read about it online. The twist ending is subtle, not in your face. The clues are there, but you have to piece them together. Because the actors aren't good at subtlety and the script suffers, it's hard to make sense of it. Your character, Geralt is especially bad.

The music is one of the best things about the game though. It is really great stuff. Supposedly, this bonus DVD that came with it has the soundtrack on it. I need to pop it in and see what's there.

What I loved about this game is that is that its single player only. It has a unifying narrative, unlike World of Warcraft. It has a plot, there is an ultimate goal. You don't just wander around doing stuff just to be doing it.

But she hasn't book a ceremony place, a venue or a person to perform the vows and stuff... That takes at least a year to do... She doesn't have a dress, hasn't chosen their wedding party... She hadn't done 'anything' for the wedding, and they're planing on getting married 'this' year... Hello, there's only 6-8 months left in the year and there's things that take 6 months to do. I asked if she's planning on getting married in Dec or not; no answer.

I think i can be around Saturday no problem. Is around 12:30 like last time okay?

I wanted to tell them this past weekend, but i just couldn't get it out. I think mom has an idea that i'm planing something, and my dad had managed to half-guess, saying something like 'You'll probably want to move out after college anyway'. I can't remember the convo that had him saying that.

I've been thinking about emailing mom at work, but i'm not sure how they'd react.
I had had mom one time, how she'd feel if i did move out some time in the near future. She said as long as i knew what i was doing and was prepared for anything than she really couldn't stop me.

I'm just not sure how to approach this.

      The game looks pretty good.

lol, indeed. Some times a game's music can ruin everything.

Yeah we were, and it makes me wonder if got to his class in time.

I have played the 1st Bioshock, although it took some time -_-

Indeed, work has become a pain.

Well, if you have time now, come on and see me! If Aim is still being a pain, try www.ebuddy.com. I use it when msn is being a pain, or when i'm on a comp that doesn't have AIM

At this point, i can say that this Sat will work fine. As for time... Sometime after 12, if we're still in the same time zone.

      Hey hun!

      What's up? Schools started.
Wanna chat sometime in the future, preferably a weekend lol.

Yeah I thought it would be funny.

Not sure about my shoulders, they were sore the next day.

Usually I don't mind hills, but since I have to go up and down then 500 times a day I can't take it.

      *nods* indeed

Never herd of that before. Can only imagine how bad that church made it for everyone else.

Same here, we won't know officially until Sept. 13th. One more student is all I ask for! T_T

Yeah I know, next time I will bring sunblock and apply it multiple times.

Sadly no, that's only for a semester. The yearly one is almost $600.

I'll take any help right now for any subject, I don't know what to expect for any of them.

lol, don't worry about the MMORPG, after awhile I got bored with it. It wasn't fun enough.

I've never had that before. And I ordered a book from the bookstore online, I chose to pick it up in the store rather than having it sent to my address and tack on more shipping charges.

      Love Steve Blum ^_^

      I know, but I can't help it.

I didn't have a problem with him, then again I think this is the first movie I've seen with him in it. I know he's done Juno and other movies but I haven't seen any of them except Scott Pilgram.

I know one too many people who have one (or all of the things I mentioned) and it just seems ridiculous. I fear I will get sucked into it too -_- also there are various people out there I don't want to talk to ever again.

I tried beer once, didn't care much for it. So far they seem alright, the only one that was a little bit more tipsy than me bought the shots. We all hated it so we asked him what it was and his reply was: You know I don't remember. And we all ended up laughing. Shortly after we left for the next club.

Yeah, now I feel really dumb.

Yes I know it's no longer called WB but it's what I called it when I was a kid.

      The RT guys rock!

Yeah I know they weren't real shots and girly drinks. My cousin promised that I would start with something "light" since I've never had a drink before.

      Can't wait for The Goon!

Fear not I will post stuff about CC tomorrow. I've been meaning to, but it's been a long weekend >_<

      That's okay.
Mom's got next week off, so i'm getting my passport, G1 and going to campus to talk to some people there. So next Monday will work probably very well. I've just missed talking with you. I don't care if its on Aim or msn right now, I just wanna talk with my Link! lol *hugs*
