I found this game going pre-owned at my local Blockbuster the day it came out here in the UK.... A good sign already right?
I'm a fan of the Riddick movies and enjoyed "Escape from Butchers Bay" which came out a few years back on the original xbox. That said I wasn't really keeping an eye out on this game, mainly because I played the Demo and thought it to be a bit.... simple. However seeing it going for £15 in a bargain bin was a bargain I didn't think wise to pass up.
Like most people I didn't realise until I started playing "Assault on Dark Athena" that the disc also contains "Escape from Butchers Bay", not only that but the Graphics and some of the Game mechanics are improved which is cool I think because playing it is like being able to watch your old memories on a HDTV screen rather than the blurry images in your head.
Gameplay Wise Riddick is ok, nothing overly special but not boring. There is a strong emphasis of hand to hand combat in both games and although the brutal finishes are satisfying the constantly blocking enemies and Riddick's rather bland punches leave much to be desired out of the experience. Apart from throwing punches Riddick also gets his bandaged mitts onto a variety of weapons and mech combat suits which makes the game fall into a typical FPS for large portions of the game.
As for multiplayer, well this is what really lets the game down. Firstly because I bought this game on the day it came out and wasn't able to find a single online game until later in the evening, which in the end only hosted 4 players rather than a full house of 12-16. Due to this the online achievements (achievements being a big part of a game for me ) are near impossible to get. I can understand why no-one is online though, the gameplay online is dull and over done in a hundred FPS's before it but with less variety.
My scores for this game are:-
Storyline - 7
Gameplay - 8
Graphics - 7
Achievements - 4
Multiplayer - 3
Jd's Score:- 5/10
Buy it if you see it going cheap, otherwise buy something else.
So here it is, I recently started watching Prince of Tennis, being understandably sceptical about how enjoyable watching a small child playing tennis for over 190 episodes could be. I was pleasantly suprised. I love this anime, I wont bring any spoilers up incase anyone (more than likely everyone) hasn't seen it, all I will say though is that this is a great example of how cool anime is, they even make Tennis look cool!
Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of tennis in general, I play once a week with some friends however I find it dull to watch on tv, then comes Prince of Tennis and makes every match in the series seem like an epic battle of power and will. Although perhaps not the best example, Prince of tennis "Action" is much like the Fight scenes in Bleach. In that they start off slow only to release there inner power later in the battle.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone else could think of an example of an anime they have watched which managed to make a usually mundane situation or event seem much cooler :)

Soul Calibur 4 is (believe it or not) the forth game in the Soul Calibur series, it is a fighting game which gives the player the chance to beat other players to death with Ninja, Knights, Lizardmen, Monsters, Jedi, Sith and a Gimp with Knives stuck to the end of his wrists.
In my opinion Soul Calibur 4 is a good sequal to the series, it improves gameplay, graphics and variety of customizable and starting characters. This is the first Soul Calibur to support Xbox live, there is very little lag, a leveling up system and the ability to fight with your Customized characters which is really cool.
Like most things in life, the experience is ruined by the small percent of people who basically suck at life. Why do they suck at life? I don't know. Maybe there hairy mothers didn't hug them enough when they were ugly fat babies or perhaps the teachers in there primary school violated them, we can but guess. However it remains that they ruin the experience for everyone they come across, they do this by doing the following:-
1) Spam combos with unbalanced characters (Killik, Seigfried, I'm looking at you two)
2) Spasticly pounding your body when your Knocked out for no other reason except it makes them feel big and powerful.
3) Sending messages to you when you win insulting your heritage and pets.
I only recently got back into this game and I'm starting to remember why I stopped playing. I get that people want to win, thats a natural thing in a video game and yes spamming buttons is a legitimate strategy, at least in the sense that the game provides you the opportunity to do so but really why do it anyway? Is being so lame really worth the slight thrill of going up one more level?
Pfft, screw them.
Oh... and these are Ivys boobies, there a big part of the game too... about 15% disc space I think.
I really liked PDZ when it first came out, it was the first game I played on xbox live and I even started to get a few achievements on it, sadly then other FPS's came out and like many other games PDZ soon died multiplayer and co-op wise. Anyway, I'm looking for people to do the Co-op and Multiplayer achievements with, so if anyone else has this game get in touch with me over live, my gamertag is:- Lord Diamond (With a space not an underscore) :P
So about two nights ago I was playing Bf2 on xbox live late at night, it was a quick match so i didn't know any of the players in the match, we were playing on back stab and I had chosen to go on the side of america. Anyhoo part way through the game my team was losing badly (despite an excellent mortar strike by yours truely) we only had the primary and first flag under control and were fighting viciously to keep that one from our enemys. As yet another wave of evil reds came charging our way I was Prone with a Machine Gun tearing away at there infantry when one of my allies ran straight into my line of fire and fell beneath its Powerfull strean of bullets. In that one fateful second something in me snapped, something akin to logic and sanity.
Since then I find myself plotting amusing ways to vanquish my allies, cowardly and stupid I know but I can't stop occasionally jumping out of a helo full of men and watch it crash to the ground or placing C4 on vechiles in order to blow them up when an allie commenders it or even sneaking behind a friendly sniper and slashing his throat!
I have caught the Team Killers bug, I am worse than scum! Yet I still can't stop my vile addiction! Please tell me there are others out there like me, people who find pleasure in hearing allies curse there names as they are being blown into the air or shot in the face!
I'm fairly new to Xbox live and only have 2 games that are compatible with it. Anyway I'm wondering how other people make friends whilst playing? I have several people from real life that I play with online but I'm finding it hard to make new ones whilst playing! It doesn't help that the two games I have are directly competative games (Perfect Dark Zero, Battle for middle earth 2), games that place you head to head in opposition against another player rather than working beside them.
So how do you other Xbox live owners come by friends? Any particular way?
P.s. I'm not to sure if this is kind of topic is allowed, if it isn't please remove it. Thx.
