I just finished a portfolio interview with the theatre department at Ohio Univeristy. This school is nine levels of awesome. And they've accepted me. They're even gonna pay me to come here.

The bliss of having all my hopes and dreams I never thought would actually happen suddenly come together so perfectly is overwhelming. Everything in the entire world is absolutely perfect in this one moment.

And the cynic in me is wondering just how long that'll last.

Fuck you, cynical side! I'm going out for victory ice cream! So there!

I have gotten one or two comments from people asking if I’m a furry. Not an unfair question considering what my avatar iswas.

      The answer is no.

So here's where the name actually came from: (which is actually WanderingRaccoon, but rvb.com insisted that was too many letters.)

The second summer of my college days I participated in a study abroad trip to Russia. I was one of thirty Americans who went, and we all lived in the same dorm and took the same field trips together. Every weekend the group as a whole took a field trip to some random place in the city to “experience the culture.†The tour guide/teacher would lead the group in one direction, and I’d promptly meander away in the opposite direction following some other sight that had captured my attention.

I do not speak Russian. So I’m sure you can imagine that this was a problem for me. On the other hand, it’s pretty interesting the things you see when you’ve no clue where you are or what anyone’s saying to you. (Honestly I’d never have figured out that one guy thought I was a prostitute for sale if someone hadn’t translated. I thought he just wanted to steal my purse.)

One of the guys on the trip declared I was just like a raccoon, always getting distracted by shinny things and wandering away, and like a loogie on the bathroom wall, the name stuck.

I like camping, and I like backpacking.

I’ve inherited both loves from my father, who, having being raised in central Florida where vacations always were trips to the beach, now hates beaches. Consequently every vacation my family took when I was a kid was always to the mountains. This has lead to a backlash in my brother who’s now moved to the beach and shuns camping with all the intensity of a thousand desert suns. (although, truth to tell, a certain dull hatchet may or may not also feature prominately in that logic.) But me, I'm a daddy’s girl, and I still love the mountains.

I don’t know where my dad got the idea, but he’s figured out how to make a backpacking stove out of a cat food can. It involves punching holes in the top of the sides of the can, poring flammable liquid in, and then setting it on fire. My dad is extraordinarily proud of this.

So now that he's got a new toy to play with, he’s really jonesing to go packing again. Cue a trip to REI the other day to look at camping gear. I actually wound up spending most of the time with my mom looking at shoes, only to return to the front and discover that my dad was considering buying himself a new internal-frame pack (my dad’s always carried a huge external-frame that’s a great deal older than me). I was sort of surprised, because packs cost a fair bit of money and I hadn’t realized he’d planned to spend that sort of money on this trip.

Anyway, a store clerk helped him size and fit the packs, putting weighted sandbags in so my dad could walk around the store and get a feel for what each pack was like. Eventually my dad became enamored with one particular pack and bought it.

No sooner did we get home and he put it on and start fidgeting with the fit then he noticed the sales tag for the first time. He’d purchased a woman’s pack. Immediately he sucked it off, dumped it in the livingroom floor with a huge sigh of disgust. And it’s still there, slumped in on itself like a sad little thing, spurned by it’s owner.

Even though it’s the exact pack he tried on and loved in the store. Does one word on a sale tag really make such a difference?

I heart Deadpool so much. Not least of all because he's the only good thing currently coming out of Marvel.

    • Er, is this thing on?

So, not that anyone reads these things anymore, I thought I might actually do an update.

Don't worry, the world's not ending. Not yet anyway.

Theatre is like Kudzu. Once you let it into your life, it takes over. Seriously. On a good note though, I now I have a summer stock job with the Shenandoah Music Summer Theatre in Winchester, VA. I'm VERY excited. Absolutely makes up for the fact that I wrecked my car last friday.

Yes, I wrecked my car the day before my spring break began. Major suck.

I'll also be THE costume designer for Taming of the Shrew next semster. If anyone's gonna be anywhere near Carrollton, Ga this August, stop by. Ask for Casey. Tell me you're from RvB. I'll treat you to dinner and movie. It's a good deal. I've run out of short choppy sentences to say here. Yeah.

So, how is everyone? (If anyone still reads this...)

EDIT OH yeah, if you're reading this because I just gave you a bunch of mods and you want to know who the crap I am.... well yeah, after having not signed into this account for three months I was suprised to realize I had 91 mod points just lying around. So I decided to give them out. Randomly. If I gave them to you then you're probably a theatre geek, a SCA geek, like a band I also love, listed Veggietales as a fav show, or just seemed like a cool person. Congrats.

      LostRaccoon

So I'm now an award-winning costume designer. Impressive, isn't it? Well, until I tell you the award I won was the Georgia Theatre Convention's award, and that I was one of only two contestants. I still won $50.

So anyway, my theatre company's currently gearing up for a production of four one-act comedies by Christopher Durang, including For Whom the Southern Bell Tolls, (which is a parody of Tennesee Williams' .A Glass Menagerie) and Actor's Nightmare. They are hillarious. And I'm the assiant Costume Designer, which means I'm in charge of two of the four productions, and also get to be Alan's, my mentor, lackey.

So, anyone who might be near or in Carrollton from November 15 to the 19th, call me, I'll get you tickets. It's worth it.

I hope you can make a decision soon. Maybe take a loan from your parents, and I'll make you a deal, if you come monday 7/20 and depart monday 7/23 I'll take you to Disneyland on tuesday smiley8.gif everyone should go once

Perfectly allright, hell I've faced much worse on this site. I used to be in one forum where I couldn't post in it at times without having what I referred to as the "Haters of Pete" flaming (as in the war) out of it until they signed off. So one little mistaken thing is of no consequence to me.

I could take it ither way, so it's a good answer. I won't count on you, but I'll be ready for you at the drop of a hat. I hope you have a better idea before July. tickets got sold out late June last year

    • Galim

ahg, but comic-con is the Real place to be! ah well, it's the usual excuse, and a good one. if you don't have the funds, it's as simple as that. Maybe next year.
It's the same case for a friend of mine in Greece. she really really wants to go to COmic-con for the opportunities but she can't make it until next year

    • Galim

      not something that will happen?

    • Galim

HAH! good point, but THen again, I'm not sure if I ever read a true batman comic, or at least I'm not sure since they got so many spinoffs.
well if Comic's are such a vice for you, why not come to comic-con?
I'e got a little troop already going and I've already got 2 hotel rooms, I can squeeze another girl into the girls room though.
all you'll need is a plain ticket, and a 4 day pass to comic-con ($75)
I'll take care of your share for the hotel rooms since you are coming from quite the distance.

the convention is in July, Love to have you

    • Galim

yeah I noticed that, But I really didn't like the movie. I thought the affects were nice, and the action stunning, but I didn't like the story. I gave the book a look see and well, I didn't like it. Everyone is trying to convince me otherwise, why? leave me alone! so I didn't like the story, not everyone liked the movie Kung Pow like I did. My Beef was with th characters and the ending. I mean, just because the Bad guy explains himself and makes his point doesn't make it right. DR. Manhattan was a douche and Rorschach the only character I liked, gets blown up because he was gonna tell the truth. The underlying messages this story was trying to drive home is that all human's are inherently evil (I disagree) and If truth and Justice don't go along with a lie that creates a fragile utopia it should be silenced. If I had known more about the story ie read it, I wouldn't of had my hopes as high as I did.

I guess I'm more of a Frank Miller fan as far as story telling goes
