I really freaking hate carbonated beverages that have been canned at a lower altitude. You folks that live above a few thousand feet know what I mean. Too much damn beer on my shirt and not enough in my mouth.

Unless your fat, if you're obese going out into public is overrated.

This is a letter to the editor of the Times-Dispatch in Richmond Virginia. Take it from someone who's been there before.

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day and on July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.

On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.

I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said "Praise the Lord." And when the young leader said, "I will be for change and I'll bring you change," everyone yelled, "Viva Fidel!"

But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.

Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?

      Would we?

      Manuel Alvarez Jr. Sandy Hook.

I was cruisin another forum site and found this. A quote I rather enjoy.

"Guns aren't toys. They're for family protection, hunting dangerous or delicious animals, and keeping the King of England out of your face... And sometimes for toying around with."

      Italics are my addition

I was just thinking with the knights armament software, you wouldn't need the whizbang windows stuff. WOuld have only spent about $250 and had something you could show for it.

I'm not used to iphones running microsoft office. The software I have is for windows based mobile devices. I've found that it's rather hig speed. needs at least 800MHz to keep from lagging and 1GB of RAM to keep up with itself. It also is designed (now that I've read the fine print on the website at home vice the mobile format page) to ge attached to a GPS and hand held weather station and high speed laser range finder. Just for this set up the website can add up to $10,000 just for the ballistics. The program is called Delta III.

I'm going to use my $90 used ipaq 2215 that I can't return, an excel spread sheet I found and downloaded to my phone, and a pelican case. the rest of it will come from my ability to range through the mil dt scope, read a map, and read the weather channel and judge the wind like an old school sniper and actually learn the real skills needed to make those legendary long range shots.

Of course my memory could be way off on that.

      1. I tried to present a STATISTIC. The fact that it was used in a speech is irrelevant.

      2. The healthcare plan was still being drawn up at that point and it had been stated repeatedly prior that they were not going to offer a healthcare plan to illegal immigrants.

      3. That's not what I was referring to. I meant that the UN was effective as a monitoring agent due to the depth of detail in its investigations, particularly in to issues such as poverty, human rights abuses and globalisation. Events that occur in circumstances outside of their control. The Oil For Food program was something they had organised and fucked up. Thereafter I refer you to my comment about how the UN is ineffective when attempting to take action.

      4. The perception comment was referring to greatbob's comment on the current adminstration.

      5. The only thing I can say is we'll see. I can't give you a definite number for the long-term period and we're both following two different hypotheses as to how the deficit will pan out.

      6. I'm not doubting that in some countries with Universal Healthcare will have lower treatment qualities than the US but most do have an equal level of healthcare. Australia, New Zealand, UK and certain European nations. However even if some of those countries that struggle with Universal Healthcare were to change over to Privatized Healthcare. The quality of life and treatment would probably decrease.

One thing about the classes I didn't mind was the extreme concentration. I think things would be a LOT better if all pilots took some ATC training. It really made me a better pilot.

    • GoldenZephyr

      I think it's a TruGlo.

    • turkeypwnsyu

Yeah, and eventually the only thing in the cockpit that the pilot will interact with will be a German Sheppard, the dog's job is to bite the pilot if he tries to touch any of the controls. ATC school definately wasn't fun, being an ATC wasn't fun, and you couldn't pay me enough to go back.

Basically, I'd wake up, vomit, drink coffee, vomit, drive to work, vomit in the parking lot, eat half a box of tums, chew some orbit, and start my day dealing with Pilots. The stress that job puts you under is overwhelming.

    • turkeypwnsyu

Heh, I havent updated my profile on here in forever. I stopped being an ATC a loooong time (think a couple years) ago. ATC's used to make pretty good dough, I'm not sure what they're making now though with the downturn in the economy.

I have no idea, but I would rate them as crap. They're good for cold climates, but the plastic can't stand up to the heat here. Also, they're not meant to last very long -- they don't dent or bend like metal mags, they just break.

Also, metal mags look cooler. smiley8.gif

I like it so far- gun feels a little out of kilter with the current weight distribution but when the gun is loaded and shouldered the front heavy nature isn't so much a problem any more-

I think it was worth the buy especially given Cav Arms current situation with the BATFE
