    • Forging 101: Glitching out of Levels

      11 years ago

      This episode of Forging 101 deals with glitching out of maps in order to increase the area that forgers can utilize for their maps. There are several different methods for glitching out of maps that will be covered. These methods include tele tapping, the turret method, spawn point glitching, and box-teleporter glitching.

      Tele tapping
      This is a very easy technique that will allow you to make maps similar to the maps that are under the glass on snowbound. Ok you need to do three things. Number one, this is a biggie so try not to forget, be in Forge. Number two, make sure you are not host. Number three, spawn a teleporter on the glass you wish to tele-tap it through. Use Snowbound's ghost spawn for starters.

      Ok. Your in forge, you have a teleporter, you have a lack of host, and a smile only a mother could love. Try to be at a 65o angle. This is the hard part, tap A until the receiver node or two-way node falls through the glass. When it does, hopefully it will, spawn a sender node and fly through. You are now under the glass. Go into theater mode to explore more of this underground area.

      The Turret Method
      Ah the turret method, this may be the most useful glitching method available to players to utilize. To do this you will first have to be in forge. Place a turretagainst an object that you can see through such as glass or a fence. You may have to float a turret to get to higher surfaces such as the glass windows on Foundry using the save and quit method. Once your turret is positioned directly against the surface mount the turret. You may have to walk against the surface and face the turret slightly. If you cannot get on the turret you may need to reposition it by moving it up or changing the angle it is positioned at.

      Now comes the fun part. Once you have mounted the turret look directly up as seen in the picture above. Next turn into a monitor. You should now be glitched through the surface into an additional part of the map. If you would like people to access this part of the map place spawn points or teleporters in the area. If another player is in the room with you can alternatively have them pick up the turret while you are on it and drag it to the surface. Mongooses can also be used if a player is on the rear end. Feel free to incorporate these areas into your Forge maps.

      Spawn Point Glitching
      There are some areas that cannot be accessed using the tele tapping or turret methods. In special cases you can glitch spawn points through certain areas of the map. Unfortunately there really is no accurate way of doing this. To glitch a spawn point into an area drag the spawn point over the invisible wall or in some cases solid objects. If you are able to get it above an invisible wall, continue to spawn or drag the spawn point along the surface. If you get lucky you may just manage to glitch a spawn point into an inaccessible area. A good example of a practical use of this method is Holding Cell which is played in the spire above Camp Froman on Last Resort.

      Box-Teleporter Glitching
      The final method that can be used to reach previously inaccessible areas is box-teleporter glitching. This method is a bit archaic but works quite well on some of the older maps. Box-Teleporter glitching is used to get past elastic barriers which are barriers that push you back when you walk into them. In order to do this you will first need to place a box (containers work best) against an elastic barrier. Now attempt to place a receiver node or two way node behind the box. You may have to hold the right trigger to move the object far away from you to place it behind the box. Now you should be able to enter a sender node and exit out of the teleporter behind the barrier. Now you may use parts of this area to build part of a map, but note that it is difficult to place objects while behind the barrier and you may be ejected from it and have to re-enter it through the teleporter. Unfortunately this is the only method that can allow you to place objects and build part of a map in some areas such as the ledge above Camp Froman on Last Resort.

    • Call of Duty 4 Feature Patch Available

      11 years ago

      Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling said it could be ready for the weekend and so it is, the much anticipated new feature patch for Call of Duty 4 is now available to download from Xbox Live. Here's the details:

      New Kill Cams

      We’ve added new Kill Cams for everything. So now those “WTF!†grenades that seemingly come from no where, you can see that a guy threw it over the house, it hit a tree branch, bounced off a rock, into a tiny window, where you happened to be pointing out of, and say…… whoa. Follow behind RPGs and M203’s kill cams, claymores, Airstrikes where you can follow the bomb from the plane until it hits you.

      Host Migration

      Now you won’t have to be dropped back by yourself when a host leaves. Instead, everyone will stay together, a new host will be assigned, and the game will auto-start back up. Keeping everyone together, no more re-inviting, re-joining games because some host leaves. This has been a tall order and something that we’ve put a lot of work into which has allowed us to really optimize online play all around not just specifically with Host migration.

      Improved Sniper / ACOG Accuracy

      Sniper and ACOG scopes have been tweaked and are really improved. I use to not snipe at all (mainly because I’m a horrible sniper), but now it’s so much more fluid and natural, while still having the same difficulty to use, it has no more “WTF I know I hit that guy!†moments.

      Upgraded Spectator Cam

      Now when you’re in spectator mode you can follow them in 3rd person, switch to their first person view, or rotate the camera in a full 360 degrees around whoever you’re watching.

      Quick Mute Option

      Users will now be able to quick mute players on the fly by pulling up the scoreboard in-game or via the lobby by simply going to their name and hitting the mute assigned button. As quickly as calling in and designating an airstike. So no longer getting killed while trying to make your way through the Xbox blades for the mute option so you can shut up the guy who always seems to find it funny to sing into his mic or cover up for his lack of skill by telling you how to play Domination his way.

    • New COD4ContentCould Arrive this Weekend

      11 years ago

      Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has updated his IAMfourzerotwo blog with new information that suggests the new Call of Duty 4 content could be with us by this coming weekend.

      With the release of our Feature patch and DLC coming closer and closer every day, and plenty of new playlist ideas being thrown around for Call of Duty 4 multiplayer I know we can keep the fight going for a long long time. I love these weekly number checks because it provides a great opportunity to give you guys a weekly update on how things are going here at the studio with those updates, so with that said…

      I got word that the Xbox 360 Feature patch could be ‘very very close’, I can’t tell you exactly when because they haven’t passed on that information but apparently certification went fantastic and I was given the Green light to take care of some things that I have to do before it goes live to you guys, which means good things. I’m not going to get any hopes up, but I hope to be seeing some new Kill Cams by the weekend if we’re lucky. Don’t hold me to that though, but I have a good feeling about it.

    • First Halo 3 Ghost Town Screenshots

      11 years ago

      Bungie have just released the very first screenshots for the Ghost Town map, which is set to be included in the second map pack coming soon for Halo 3. Below in a brief overview of the map, as well as the screenshots gallery.

      Ghost Town is the fragmented ruins of a small 24th century water purification complex that geographically lies just North and West of the jungle foothills hydroelectric facility from the Sierra 117 mission. The well-protected facility built into a shallow ravine was once home to the Global Water Campaign, where the still somewhat-pure Kilimanjaro meltwater was transported via pipelines from the river and directed to this small outpost where it became further purified, and then transported via GWC trans-African pipelines along the Tsavo Highway for distribution throughout the entire continent.

      Cameron: From the earliest iterations it had some elements that reminded me vaguely of Lockout, visually it has some elements similar to Warlock and Sanctuary, and it also pulls from Sierra 117 and Crow’s Nest from the singleplayer. Overall we really wanted to define a distinctive look for Ghost Town that strays outside of somewhat more traditional Halo environments.

      Vic: It reminds me a little of the destroyed stuff I did on Warlock for Halo 2 - That’s still one of my most favorite maps, at least ones that I’ve worked on. I cannot deny that there’s a little bit o’ Warlock in Ghost Town, I just won’t say what or where. And no, there are no bats in it.

    • Lintendo64's Reconz is teh Stolenz!

      11 years ago

      Reports have been flying in that Lintendo64's Xbox Live account and Bungie account have been hacked. Today TrueDarkFusion spoke directly with Lintendo64 on the matter to confirm the reports, and they are indeed true. For those of you who do not remember Lintendo64, aka Bryan, was given recon armor by Bungie for his great wall map that they mentioned in one of their weekly updates.

      Not only has the hacker stolen Bryan's account, but he also had the nerve to purchase 1500 Microsoft points from the marketplace using Bryan's credit card. Lintendo has canceled the credit card, and luckily his card holder has removed the charges. In addition to purchasing content the alleged hacker has changed all of Lintendo's account information and the e-mail associated with it. Along with his account information being altered so was his profile and fileshare. All of the new files on his fileshare are movies by DARKreaperBEAST, which has led to speculation that this user is the one who hacked Lintendo's account. Of course this is only speculation and has yet to be confirmed.

      Bryan contacted Microsoft support on the matter, and they told him that they couldn't do anything to fix the problem. He is currently talking with Frankie about the theft. Lintendo does appear to have support from Frankie, Bungie, and the online community. Do not let this story fade into the darkness. Our cry must be heard and these recon thefts must be put to an end! I personally support Lintendo's fight for justice and will be providing updates for you here regarding the matter. Lintendo will soon have a new account as TrueDarkFusion has given him one of his 1 month subscription cards from one of his many Red Ring encounters. Unfortunately one month isn't very long in the grand scheme of things so if you have a 1 month subscription card or your condolences to help a fellow gamer out and send the code to Lintendo in a PM. Lintendo we feel your pain and back your crusade!

    • Introducing the Xbox360Elite Laptop

      11 years ago

      Ben Heck, the unofficial Xbox 360 console modding king, has just revealed his Xbox 360 Elite Laptop. Check out the video and pictures below.

      It comes with everything you'll find in an Elite - the 120GB hard drive, camera, and HDMI connection. He won't be making any more like this though, and in case you're interested in the model below - it was actually commissioned and is already taken.

      This unit, like all of them, was done by request and thus already spoken for. I do not plan to build any new Xbox 360 laptops in the near future, since they tend to be quite time consuming and I’d like a bit more variety in my life. That said, for the making-of story click below. Enjoy!

      CO-OP MAPS

      New Co-op Campaign â€" Story: Manuel Suazo Azcona has emerged as the leader of a new rebel movement in El Salvador. Azcona’s plan seems to be an attempt to destabilize the governments of both El Salvador and neighboring Honduras. Once their respective governments are weakened, he will incite the people to try and overthrow both countries’ U.S.-backed leaders. The Ghosts are being sent in to quell this uprising before it starts. They must first stop the rebel incursions over the two nations’ shared border and then hunt down the rebel leaders one by one. If they fail, America’s efforts in the region could be set back by decades.

      Caves â€" (Ghost Recon)
      Azcona’s squads are using the nearby caves as an operational base for raiding army convoys across the river. Detain and extract the rebel leader and recon the area for any hidden weapon caches.

      Railroad Bridge â€" (Ghost Recon)
      Intel reports the rebels are moving on a command post 60 clicks southeast of here. Protect the command post, recon the local rail line and hunt down the informant providing intel to the rebels.

      Battlefield â€" (Ghost Recon)
      The last rebel unit in the area is holed up in the village of Venta. An allied armor unit on the edge of town is pinned down by artillery. Ghosts, knock out the enemy comm transmitter, then escort the armor through the village.

      Plantation â€" (Ghost Recon: Island Thunder)
      Intel shows a rebel leader’s motorcade is moving through the farms south of here. Take out his convoy and destroy all of the surrounding ADATS before Sabre Seven arrives for extraction.

      Swamp Airfield â€" (Ghost Recon: Island Thunder)
      Azcona’s rebels have occupied a small island airfield. Recon the area for intel on this operation and destroy all aircraft to prevent any means of escape. The landing strip is targeted for an air strike so get out ASAP.

    • Halo Series 2 Figures from McFarlane

      11 years ago

      MacFarlane have released information and more importantly photos of their second series of action figures based on Halo 3, including Master Chief, Spartans, ODST Soldier and Brute Stalker. Here's the press release:

      In a licensing agreement with Microsoft, McFarlane Toys is producing action figures based on the video game series Halo. Last few week we dazzled you with photos of the Arbiter (see it here). Now we're proud to bring you the Series 2 Master Chief, Spartans, ODST Soldier and Brute Stalker.

      Feast your eyes.

      Thought to be the last surviving SPARTAN soldier, Master Chief possesses a unique trait that has made him both a hero and symbol of hope in the eyes of humanity, and a "demon" in the minds of his enemies. That trait? A rare combination of skill and luck that has seen him through many battles, including the destruction of two Halo installations.

      Now, with the Covenant forces edging ever closer to their hallowed, and cataclysmic "final journey," it once again falls upon the Chief's mighty shoulders to take the fight to his enemies.

      McFarlane Toys' Master Chief's weapons can attach to his leg and back, and also feature:

      * 18 points of articulation
      * 2 weapons, interchangeable between figures
      * Removable helmet, chest and shoulder armor
      * Weapon storage capability on back and right thigh

      There are fighters, and then there are soldiers. There are warriors, and then there are SPARTANS. The elite of the elite, humanity's greatest fighting force - and greatest weapon against the hated armies of the Covenant. The unique men and women, hand-picked at a young age to take place in the clandestine SPARTAN program were transformed through science and trained for one thing - victory.

      Armor Variations:

      EOD Blue- Wal-Mart Exclusive (EOD Tan â€" Available at all retailers - EOD Olive - Available at all retailers

      SCOUT Blue â€" Available at Wal-Mart (SCOUT Tan â€"Available at all retailers)

      ODST Steel - GameStop Exclusive - Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) are an elite branch of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) special forces. Comprised of an all-volunteer fighting force of some of the bravest men the UNSC has to offer, the ODST have served valiantly in many campaigns against the Covenant, including engagements on three separate Halo installations.

      MARK VI Pink â€" Available only in Canada, Mark VI Gold - Transworld Exclusive

      EVA White - Available at specialty stores only - EVA Brown - Toys 'R' Us Exclusive

      CQB Red â€" Available at all retailers

      Be mindful of your surroundings, for one never knows when one is being hunted. Invisible to all but the keenest of eyes, Brute Stalkers use light-bending technology known as active camouflage to approach their prey undetected, before unleashing destruction upon their unsuspecting enemies.

      * 15 points of articulation
      * Weapon storage on back
      * Weapon: Spike rifle and carbine

      Another weapon in the mighty Covenant arsenal, Drones (or "buggers") are insect-like warriors that attack in swarms -- the buzzing static of their wings offering the only warning of their approach. Drones are dangerous opponents in any battle, as their ability to fly offers them many angles from which to attack, and their erratic flight patterns make for difficult targets.

      * 12 points of articulation
      * Wings fold up and down
      * Weapon: Plasma pistol

      Though considered a high commander of the Elites, the Arbiter lost his honor among the Prophets when he failed to protect the first HALO. Disillusioned by the reason behind the Covenant's war against humanity, the Arbiter leads the Elites when they align with the UNSC.

      This former foe to Master Chief is ready to finish the fight with the Spartan soldier against the Covenant forces, and the continued threat of the Flood.

      * Weapons: Energy sword and carbine rifle
      * 18 points of articulation
      * Weapon storage capability: On leg and back
