    • My arm is falling apart

      6 years ago

      Markolai

      So apparently my left arm is falling apart. Or something like that, but perhaps less dramatic. First came elbow pain, now comes something that feels like tendonitis in the hand that is attached to said arm. WTF is going on with my body.

      In other news* I just preordered the Xbox One, and have been playing Samurai Warriors Chronicles for the 3DS. I don't know why I enjoy that game, but I do. Also, delving into Mass Effect (the first one) and rather enjoying it. I know there are some out there who think the game is terrible, but honestly I'm enjoying the story (Though the going through a door and finding overwhelming odds which kills you and sends you back to the beginning of the planet kinda sucks).

      So what have you guys been up to? Have any of you dealt with tendonitis? Do you have any tips on how to game with it?

    • So, it's been a while...

      It's been a while since my last post. Internet access has been and continues to be a problem, but I am determined to restart my involvement in this awesome community and site. I am also beginning my personal campaign to attent RTX 2014. It's time to save save save. For all of you who went to RTX this year... about how much did you spend including travel, tickets, food, and entertainment (not to mention goodies).

      I hope everyone is well. I'm also going to get more involved in Twitter. You can find me @Markolai88 . Not too much there yet, but I'm working on it. I've found myself to be more of a lurker on the internet, but I'm looking to change that. Tips are appreciated. Here's to multiple takes!

      Cheers

    • Halo 4 creation crew creation

      So, 5 days until Halo 4 (Give or take a few hours, but who's counting?). That means Spartan Ops, a new progression system, and new Forge tools! I also happen to have the three days after launch off of work. What an awesome coincidence! So, why am I ranting and raving about this? You've already heard all about Halo 4 and some of you have even gotten some hands on time.

      The short answer is, I want to get a creation crew together and also a general Halo 4 crew together. The general Halo 4 crew ideally would meet once a week to play that weeks episode of Spartan ops and also occasional spontaneous gatherings for general online play. But the real baby of this journal is the creation crew. This group would work on forge maps and gametypes and even do a few let's plays/game nights revolving around them. What do you say?

      Who's up for some Minecraft tonight? I have a wonderful map with a castle just waiting to be attacked. I'm planing to start around 2200 (10:00) or 2230 ET tonight and go until I can't stay awake anymore. Join me. If we're not LIVE friends already, just leave a comment. I'll send an invite to all who are already on my list and online tonight.

    • Minecraft 360 Castle assault

      Markolai

      The castle is almost in playable condition! As I don't have anything else to do today I should be able to get it done. That means I'll be opening up playtesting most likely tonight. If you want in tonight, leave a comment (or PM me).

      If you make it tonight, that's cool. There will likely be a few iterations. I do however need some thoughts on starting loadouts. The first iteration of rules which is likely to change follow.

      1. A preparation period of at most 3 min. will occur at the beginning of each round.
      2. The goal of the attacking team will be to steal the "Tower of Pimps" from the castle. The Defending team will place the "ToP" in the castle. The location of the "ToP' must not unreasonably hidden.
      3. Each Player will get 3 lives.
      4. Pickaxes and shovels are not allowed.
      5. You may not place any blocks after the end of the preparation period.
      6. Loadouts will be provided in chests at each team's starting point. You may only choose ONE loadout

      That's pretty much it for rules. Suggestions are welcome. Some tools that will definitely be in the loadouts.
      Flint & Steel
      TNT
      Lava buckets
      Armor/sword/bow (materials to be balanced)
      Foods
      Torches?
      Anything else?

      I've been working very hard on a team pvp map in Minecraft. It's a castle assault. I've almost got the castle built, but I will need your help to set up rules and whatnot. My goal is to submit it to the AH crew hopefully for a Let's Play. If you are interested, please respond in the comments and even send me a friend request on LIVE. I'll then send out PMs and we'll get this underway.

      P.S. My gamertag is Markolai.

      I look forward to playing with you guys!

    • A thought provoking quotation

      6 years ago

      Markolai

      Hi all, It's been a while since my last journal. I blame it on being in a place where there is no internet. In any case, I persevered to bring you this quotation which I found on the wall of a Waldorf School.

      No thought is born in me that does not have death carved in it. - Michaelangelo

      Now, I've been unable to find this online, however it brings into my mind an interesting thought which I have from time to time and firmly believe in my conclusion. Can something exist without its opposite. For instance, would it be life if there were no death? Would it be light without darkness and shadow? Parts of me say maybe. But most of me says that opposites are necessary to define us.

      On a related note, I don't particularly like to quote the Christian Bible, but there's a passage from Ecclesiastes that I've read all too many times at funerals. You probably know it too from Pete Seeger's setting of it (And the cover by the Birds I think).

      Ecclesiastes 3
      1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
      2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
      3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
      4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
      5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
      6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
      7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
      8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

      I try to live my life by this passage. It speaks to me (As the Quakers would say). There is a time for everything. There is no use in closing off opportunities or possibilities because at the time they seem wrong. People sometimes ask me, "Would you do (Insert action here)?" I have to say yes, because while I may not see the need to now, there may be a time in the future when it is necessary. This was put to me another, more contextualized way in one of my music classes. The class was Sax tech (learning the Saxophone). The instructor said, if you squeak, don't learn not to do that. First learn to do it every time. Learn to be able to squeak every time. Then, just don't do it. Master it first. Then when you have control you will be able to use it. Unfortunately this came too late for my clarinet playing as I had already learned how to not do something, and when I needed to I actually couldn't.

      Do you have any experiences or anecdotes related to either of the above quotations?

      So, a while ago I ran a contest type thinggy for a prototype design of a leather "bound" disk case. The winner of that was Timcanpy23, suggesting the Portal 2 cover. Well, after an internship and a short job at a music camp (Dorm supervisor), I finally got to it. This is my first attempt at working with leather. (I'm providing a link because I can't seem to get the image embed to work. or maybe it does, but my connection isn't allowing me to view it correctly... in any case... check the link, I may get the image in here later.)

      achievementhunter.com/members/images/image.php?id=3...

      I started with a simple outline and a few details. I even tried to emboss the hull parts to make them look a little more round. If you look closely you can see it. I need to do a little more with the embossing, but you could feel it now if you were holding it. More updates to come. Perhaps I'll work with this particular practice and see what different tools do to it. Perhaps I'll be able to add some more detail. Let me know what you guys think.

    • Crazy Dream

      7 years ago

      Markolai

      SO, I had this crazy dream. What dream you say? Well just hold your horses, I'm getting to that.

      So the dream... Well I was in this massive game of dodgeball. There were about 80 people there, split evenly guys and gals. Actually, the game was guys vs. gals. Why would you care about this, you say? Well because you were likely there. While I know the RT community is well into the 6 digit figures, you were all there... but somehow only totalled 80. Don't ask me how. It's dreamland physics. Anywho, many notable figures were there including the Internet box crew, Joel,Blondicus, and some more. It was some variant on dodgeball where at a certain point, a certain accomplishment (not sure what exactly it was) would allow the whole team to come back in. Awesomely, both teams held their own. It was awesome. It was amazing. It was a kickass dream.

      Thank you all for making my night a lot of fun.

      P.S. Possible Side Quest for future RTX?
