    • My Second Day of Work: Phones!

      Max_Jackson

How about this, they let me browsr RvB on the job. I like this place. Of course this journal will probably take me about an hour to write just because I have to stop every so often to do actual work. Its not much because I'm a temp, but I do my part. Plus, seeing that its my second day, they're pretty lenient on my knowledge of how this shit works. Not that I'm not a fast learner, I just don't know where everything is around Duke, which is why I'm not able to help more. With a location based job, its important to know the way around.

I'll get there, eventually. Tee hee hee. So yeah, I was messaging Michelle yesterday and the bossman comes over and I minimize the screen and pull up the server we use for support, and he flat out tells me "go ahead, everyone browses the net 'round here. Just don't jump on any porn sites and we'll be straight." I didn't have a problem with that seeing as I don't really like porn, so I'm all good.

I had to be here at 7 AM which means I had to get up at 5:45 AM. Now I know why Joe's so crabby and even though he's a little more sensitive because he has sand in his cooter, I don't like the early morning. Granted I get off at 3:30 PM, but I need to go to bed earlier to balance this workday out... or I'ma need a nap on my lunchbreak. But I'm done complaining, and now I'll get back to work.

So message me because I'll be on here until I'm out... since I can be! Awesomeness baby!

      EDIT
Thanks to the help of Jason, the webpage is totally operational now. It even has a few working links. So, if you have time today stop by and visit Fourth Wall Films and the Hangover Buffet page. And of course, since we're operational, the HB is back in business. We'll be putting out a new episode this Sunday, so stay tuned and either Joe or I will let you know when its available to the masses. [/plug]

    • My Week At A Glance: Here We Go!

      Max_Jackson

For all of you who were worried, I am truly drug free. Or at least free enough to be employed by Duke. They were able to move my test up to yesterday afternoon because they had a cancellation, but I still had to wait an hour and a half after I got there because they only have one facility where this test is set up, and with four people in front of me who had no idea how to "pee in a cup" it took forever. I actually fell asleep twice while waiting for my turn. And that was after I fell asleep three times during the orientation that morning. Seriously, why do I need to watch a video involving sexual harassment again?!? Who am I going to seduce... the two 50 year old African American women or the 45 year old Hispanic woman?!? Honestly... if it was going to be a problem, I'm sure I'd let them know.

I didn't get a callback from Jim yet to say when I can actually start, but I'm sure he can call me at his earliest convienence to my BRAND... NEW... PHONE! (tell 'em about it Johnny!) To celebrate I went out to dinner with my folks and after that we went to Verizon store to finally check out a new phone for me as well as Pops. Apparently, his had been on the brink longer than mine but he was still able to use it, so he just worked with it. Pops' work only has a Verizon signal booster, so we're sticking with them, but we couldn't decide on the design. He wants something small he can put in his pocket, but Mom's new car has Bluetooth capabilities, so they also wanted that convienence... not that either of them understand technology, but an older guy interrupted while we were shopping and said he loved using his Bluetooth. (and of course, the folks couldn't act like they had no idea how to use the stuff).

And since they say a picture is worth one thousand words... I'd like to show you the new phone my folks picked out for me.

motorola_razr_v3.jpg "the RAZR" and this nifty headset too...hf-V510.jpg

Well, not that paticular headset, but I couldn't find the one I have, so you get this one instead. Same plan, same number, so if you know it you're in luck and if not... well... I'll give you a few hints. My number is 9** - 62* - **01. Find the missing digits and I'll gladly take a call from you with my new headset and phone. Trust me, I was just as shocked as you were when Mom said "get Michael one."

Even more shocked when she said at dinner "I was gonna buy you a beer... just one though." Who are you, and where's my mother?

Got a wedding to attend to this afternoon, so I'll be back a little later this evening, but Joe and I were gonna grab some afternoon Halo today, say maybe about 2 PM EST if anyone wants to join in. It'll be good times. Also, Joe did a little PR for the machinima, so if you get a chance check out Joe's latest journal answering some questions about the series. Also, add the fucker to your watch list...

...he says some pretty funny stuff. Some of the time...

    • My Update 2: The Secret of the Ooze

      Max_Jackson

So, I have to get screened before I begin my job at Duke. Turns out that includes loads of paper work for them to take their time going through, and of course, the ever threatening drug test. Luckily for me they gave me plenty of notice and I've been clean now for a good 23 years. Whew, didn't think I was going to be cutting it that close, but I think I'll be alright. Anybody, any clean urine I can borrow?!?

I posted a new picture in my image section. Joe and I finally got around to shooting a little bit for the machinima and we took a cast group shot. Let me tell you, its harder than it looks trying to do that shit over the internet. It will be much easier when we actually sit down and system link that shit instead of using XBL. The only problem is our cast is minimum five characters. Sure, script may write some more in as the story progresses, but we need more puppeteers. I'm not sure anyone I'm friends with is in the Raleigh/Durham area and wants to help, but if you know anyone... be sure to send them our way. Plus, I'm going to make up a short audition piece with a character bio real soon, because its easier to write if I have ideas of voices in my head. That makes me sound a little crazy...

Other than that, got the main page for the website like I want it, as for now. Got links to all the main pages, just not so much on thosse other pages right now. Baby steps... and the first thing we get back into is the Internet Radio Revolution. And all that it entails.

That's all for me lads and lassies.

    • My Attention Getter: Hear Ye Hear Ye

      Max_Jackson

I would like to let everyone know that I am now the newest employee of Duke University. Thanks for everyone's support.

That is all I have to say as of right now, but if I play my cards right I might have a new cell phone this evening. Mine's shot to shit and won't hold a charge, so its time to upgrade. Plus, since Pops is in need of a new phone as well, we might be able to convince Mother that we can do a two-for-one deal with Verizon. Plus, once training is complete with my new job, they're going to cut me down to part time which means with some major flexability and because I have no personal life as of right now anyways I can balance and...

I can also apply for the full-time Assistant Manager position at the Bombay Company at the mall since that guy's flexable too.

Plus, with the way JJ and I have been cranking along with the website designing, the site should be operational by early next week.

      Things are definitely looking up...

    • My Second Journal Today: I Must Be Sick

      Max_Jackson

So here's my dilihma dielema dihlema predicament. I have an interview with a different section of Duke this coming Wednesday. Yes I know it will be hard to go to given that the world is going to end tomorrow on 06/06/06, but we'll have to make due with that. They contacted the Temp Lady and she called me about it, so I'm almost positive that I can get this position, which is a good thing.

The thing is, my best friend Aaron called me about the position from Tony, the guy at the Bombay store, and asked him what happened to his boy and that he wanted to offer me the Assistant Manager position at his store. All that I have to do is go in and fill out the paperwork for it and I can have it. How awesome is that?!? I'm not entirely sure it will be as simple as that, but it would be cool.

And lastly, as I was debating on what to do about balancing the two of those presumably full-time positions I received an email from the Director of Marketing for Clear Channel in Raleigh, Carly. Now I worked under Carly as an intern when she was the Promotions Coordinator and we hit it off rather well. Now, the Promotions Coordinator position is open for hire and I've sent in my application and although she sent me an email saying that she would probably be finished interviewing towards the end of this week... she made no mention that she had received my application. To which I kindly set her a straight forward email asking her if I was still in the running.

As I look back on it now, I probably don't have the experience to be the Promotions Coordinator for Clear Channel of Raleigh, but I've been promoting things ever since I was in chorus in high school through dorm president in college onto dress down days at U-Haul. I know I could do the job if given the opportunity, and since thats what I want to do, why not get hired and trained by my old mentor.

Here's the part where you guys come in. I need opinions on everything. I don't mind giving out more information if it helps determine what sounds like the best option, but I'm pretty much at a crossroads at the moment and its time to make a decision soon.

Should I take the guarenteed job at Bombay and just start making money and wait for something to surface at Duke? Should I put forth all I have on the new interview at Duke and see what it is that can lead from there? Should I keep badgering Carly to get her to hire me at Clear Channel? Should I call the "models/actors/extras needed" in the classified section? Should I continue to sit around the house and mooch off my parents until they kick me out into the street and tell me I'm a horrible son and a waste of space?

I have no fucking clue... guys and gals I need your help on this one. Seriously!!!

    • My Photoshopped Afternoon: Shazaam!

      Max_Jackson

As you might have heard, recently we bought a dotcom for our website, but since neither Joe, Dan nor I are web designers, its taking us a little longer to get things squared away and back to recording again. Plus job situations and familty vacations keep interferring with our proposed sit down times for recording. That being said, I wanted to let everyone know that its not like we're doing nothing... except for Joe (who, outside of he's the one with the recording equipment, I'm sure of his usefulness). I've actually been doing a lot of Photoshopping and Web Design overall, but the stuff we have isn't to the point of postability as of yet. At least in my opinion its not.

JJ has more than graciously spent some of his free time learning a simple web design concept so we can at least have a working site page for the Hangover Buffet, so we can get back to recording, but until we get the links and files uploaded, I hoped that I could appease you guys with the supposed image concepts we have for the final page look. We'll post and we'll explain as we go.

      HangoverBackgroundComplete.jpg
This is the proposed homepage for HB. Its cartoony enough to fit our personalities, with just a hint of ordered goodness for those of you who like things in seperate little boxes. I won't ruin all the surprises of the page for you, but if you ask what something means I'll probably end up telling you... I like to share. And if you click on the images, it should open it in another window for easier viewing.

You probably noticed the icon buttons on the right. The bottom most one take you back to our home page (which I haven't designed the logo for, which explains its absensce). The "contact us" button links to our email address for feedback and questions and concerns, while the "internet gems" and "ask joe" buttons take you to Dan and Joe's email addresses respectively. The "cast" button pops up a bio page about the three of us, which at the present moment is probably the coolest thing about the page itself.

And this page pops up when you click it.

      HangoverCastPageA.jpg
If you can't read the info click on the image itself. If you still can't read it you'll have to wait for the webpage. I assure you that once its loaded into a standard size internet window the text will be plenty large enough. Just be patient with us, its a learning process.

No new news on the job as of yet, but we'll keep you informed. I might spend the afternoon on the design for the homepage.

    • My New Old Job: U-Haul of Durham

      Max_Jackson

As you may have read I went in on Thursday for my first day at the new job at the last place I worked in Charlotte. Yes, I went back to the U-Haul and homeboy hired me after five minutes of conversation because I knew everything and didn't need any training whatsoever. The bad part of the new job is that since I left U-Haul of Charlotte without a transfer that they wouldn't sign for, its basically as if I quit the company. The neccessary paperwork trail that it takes to get re-hired wasn't in effect on Thursday, so Ghazi (the middle eastern manager) couldn't put me in the system, give me any codes, or any keys. Basically at this point, I worked all day and have nothing to show for it because technically I don't work for them yet. And I haven't heard from him since I left Thursday.

Talk about the possibility of screwing someone over. I don't think it will happen, but we have to wait and see. Let's cross those fingers.

While I was waiting for him to call me back all day long yesterday I received a phone call from the Temp Lady at Duke. The one that wasn't so eager to help me the other day, as you might recall. She actually found someone that wants to interview me for an open position they have in their department. I'm not sure that its as glamorous as the Project Lead job I applied for with Craig, but at least it will get my foot in the door if they select me. Then when the paperwork finally settles from the other position, it might be really simple to just transfer departments. At least thats how its already played out in my head and should end up working out in real life.

Today was pretty chill. U-Haul still didn't call me, but I got to help Pops out with a church golf tournament this morning. Joe even drove up to help me out with it. And after we packed up and he schooled me in Mario Kart: Double Dash... trust me, I didn't see it coming either... we headed out to the cinema to catch X3. And I definitely liked it better the second time around, except for the parts I checked on and bugged the hell out of me both times I saw it. And with Stan Lee working right beside of you, how can you still get it wrong?!?

Spoilers... don't highlight unless you've seen the movie...

First and foremost, any avid comic book fan knows about Colossus. They also know that Colossus's powers and super strength only work when he's in metal form. The scene where Bobby's looking for Rogue and he walks by with the giant television under his arm may have been a visual gag, but not at all accurate. Save a little bit of money on special effects... sure, get the details right... naaaaah!

Secondly, Leech's powers do not work like that. He has to will someone to nullify their powers. He can control it. And it doesn't pulse around him like a radiation patient. Plus, the scene with Beast is a crock as well. Beast's mutant power isn't being blue and furry, so Leech wouldn't have been able to change his hand back from a medical expirament gone wrong. It just wouldn't work that way.

And lastly... who stayed for the credits and watched that ending?!? The fact they only killed off two of the six original X-Men makes me a little happier than three. They can't be the X-Men without Chuck Xavier. Killing off Scott and Jean didn't go over so well with me either.

So, I have to wait until Wednesday for my interview with the other Duke department, but I guess since I'll be dressed up, I might head over to the Verizon store and put a face with my application there. Then JJ and I can talk shop as well as discussing website ideas.

I'll be on XBL a little later if anyone wants to roll on there with me. I'll be Maximus Jackson, and you can be your gamertag.

    • My Stolen Survey: From Heather

      Max_Jackson

So I took this from Heather because I wanted to feel like I had accomplished something on the internet today.

      1) My ex is: probably still mad at me for breaking up with her. (she didn't trust me)

      2) Maybe I should: go to bed so I can wake up early and go to the Verizon store.

      3) I love: long e-mail jokes with really bad punchlines... and Denise Richards.

      4) I don't understand: why its so hard to find a decent job in the field I went to school for.

      5) I lost my: script writing pen. Or it ran out of ink... I forget which.

      6) People say that I'm: really quiet until I feel comfortable with the situation around me.

      7) Sex is: being saved for that special person that I hope to one day meet. (yes, I know you know what that means)

      8) Love is: a many splendered thing. Love is like oxygen. Love lifts us up where we belong. All you need is love.

      9) Somewhere: over the rainbow, way up high, there's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby.

      10) I will always: be the tall kid at the back of the line. (a 6'2" Winstead)

      11) Forever: is a long time. Infinity is the number form of "forever."

      12) I never want to: judged for my actions whatever their intentions.

      13) I think the current President is: is taking all the criticism toward him very well. (you think your sorry ass could do better?)

      14) When I wake up in the morning I: thank God for another day He has given me.

      15) Life is full of: choices that really won't matter in the grand scheme of things. (Red Bull or a Starbucks coffee?)

      16) My past: has happened already. We can move on to the present.

      17) I get annoyed when: people drive slowly in the fast lane. And talk on their cellular phone while doing so.

      18) I wish: I had super powers. I'm digging Iceman's special abilities at the present moment.

      19) My dog is/are/was: probably asleep on his mat in my parent's bedroom. He's old.

      20) Tomorrow I'm going to: shower, shave, and get dressed up to impress the people at Verizon.

      22) If I had a million dollars I would: buy you a house. (I would buy you a house.) BNL rules!

      23) Sometimes I want to: see what its like to live like a celebrity. So I could see if its really what I want to do.

      24) I wish you would: give me your honest opinion of me... and not hold anything back.

      25) I feel like: my emotions shouldn't be pulled in so many different ways, but there's not much I can do about that.

      26) I am: delaying going to bed in hopes that Sarah will text me back and tell me what's the matter.

      27) I wish everyone would: find me a code monkey, so we can get HB back on the airwaves.

So yeah, I answered every single one of those questions with the first idea that popped into my head. Its odd when I go back and read them that I'm so drawn towards music and people's opinion of me. Then again, I'm an entertainer, so I guess that's just my nature.

First day of work recapped for you folks at my earliest availability tomorrow afternoon. Its a good one, but you have to wait until then.

    • My Results: Five Days Later

      Max_Jackson

Still no call from Gamestop, but I decided not to worry about it. After the weekend I had, which involved massive amounts of yard labor and house painting at the beach (thanks for the invite mom and pops... now I know why I was invited), the second showing at our local theatre of X3 (which I texted Sarah from to gloat), and a Memorial Day picnic (surrounded by old army guys and their old asian hooker wives) I'm not too owrried about it. My grandfather, retired Special Forces, tells me to look at a website for jobs he saw in the paper at Fort Bragg. My grandmother even offered me a room at their house, free of charge until I found a place near them if I got a job around their neck of the woods. It was nice of her to offer, since her home is so junked it would take years for me to find a place to sleep.

Unfortunately, the web address in the paper was for jobs contractors had that they wanted soldiers to do in their spare time if they wanted to. I guess he read what he wanted to and then passed it along to me. He's been trying to get my brother and me to join the Army ever since we could walk. Not gonna happen Grandpa... least not in the soldier aspect of it. Maybe a desk job on base perhaps.

So today I had to take my car in to get an oil change... which is only because we drive my car every time there's a long road trip that there's a large amount of junk to take. Heck, the folks paid for the gas and the oil change, so I'm not really complaining. I'm just worried that all the miles I put on it now are all gonna hit me when I finally get out on my own and then the thing's gonna need all its major work done on it. Although, that's not the purpose of this paragraph. While I was getting the oil changed I received a phone call from the manager (I think) from the U-Haul here in Durham. He wants me to come by this afternoon to meet with him because he told me "you already know how to do this, which means I won't have to train you." Whihc is true, and it helps him out a whole lot... because if he needs someone NOW, then he doesn't have to wait for paperwork and training classes and all the shit I actually already did.

So I've got that this afternoon and then choir practice this evening. My folks won't be attending because they have to drive back to Fayetteville this evening to pick up their brand new Toyota Avalon they purchased on Monday afternoon. It didn't have the Bluetooth Navigation installed that they had been promised, and the install area was being renovated on Monday, so they have to drive back to pick it up once its all ready, which is today. And on an even more plus note... I finished the background layout for the Hangover Buffet site. Now all I have to do is get the links working, and we'll be back in business. Where are my code monkeys when I need them?

      -Michael out

UPDATE The manager of the U-Haul store in Durham basically hired me as soon as I walked in the door. He asked me what I learned over at the other place and told me that I needed to be there tomorrow at 7 AM sharp. So I guess I'm back part time at U-Haul until I hear for sure from the full time spots I've applied to. A plus is that they're gonna pay me .50 more than I was paid in Charlotte.

The bad news is when I stopped by Taco Bell on the way home to celebrate I was informed that they have stopped the production of the Cheesy Gordita Crunch. I think I might have to shoot someone for that decision... or at least get another part time job at Taco Bell.

    • My Late Night Entry: Unveiled Artwork

      Max_Jackson

This should be a pleasent surprise for a lot of you folks and then again, some of you might have come to realize this is normal behavior for me. I can't really sleep, seeing as its 1:52 AM by my clock here. Not that I've really tried... was hoping to talk to a friend from school, but she doesn't seem to take subtle hints very well. Then again, maybe I don't give subtle hints very well. Ehhhh...

I got a call from the Temp Lady as I've dubbed her from Duke today telling me simply that the Grad Students are returning to the area at this time and since Duke helps its own before us common folk, I pretty much have no chance of getting hired right now. Thanks... and they couldn't have told me this a motnh ago because?!? Yeah, I don't know either... guess thats just their fucked system.

I had to pay my car payment today, so I went out to do that instead of paying for a stamp I decided to waste gas driving to the bank. My mother's logic, not mine. Trust me. Since the RT announcement about the DVDs being in local Gamestops, I figured while I was out, that I would stop in and spend my cash money the best way I knew how. While I was there I struck a conversation with the Game Advisor fella there and he took a liking to my video game knowledge, so I asked if they were hiring. He said in the next week they would be, so I filled out an application while I was there, and I'm hoping to hear back from them within the week. We shall see.

So I started watching the bonus material for the fourth season and figured I'd actually finish my "behind the helmet" image of the blue team that I promised I'd have finished last week. Man, I hate being called a liar, so without further ado... here it is, for your enjoyment.

      BlueArmySeasonFour.jpg

I can only imagine that it would look so much better if you click on the image and open it in its own window. Or you can save it into your images as I don't mind sharing the wealth. I wish I could say the Red Army isn't far behind, but I want to get the website up and running before I get back into the drawing some more. I know... priorities right?!? Don't worry, I'll get 'em finished soon hopefully.

Going to see X3 tomorrow while lots of you are at work. I won't spoil it for you, I promise. Maybe that's why I can't sleep!?!

Would it be too cliche to say "I'm bringing Lexy back" on the day JT's new album drops...

You'll be able to better answer that one yourself seeing as how I'm unsure of what the link is... JT isn't that idiot who grabbed Janet Jackson's boob, Justin Timberlake is it? And should I be wondering at your awareness of anything he does that isn't televised in the middle of the Superbowl? wink.png

this new friend is quite splendid, thank you for asking. i love the weather the past couple of days, because it's been rainy and such. rain is one of my favorites ^.^ other than that, mostly homework and such occupies my time. what about you?

I've played Halo before on my laptop... The Xbox version is better for me 'cause the graphics are much better than on my computer. The game, of course, is fantastic. bigsmile.png

Oh yeah, and in my mind, small dogs are always involved.

Yeah man, I don't know, just hold on to them right now. Just like money, just cause you have it doesn't mean you have to spend it. I know that last sentance should have had more commas or maybe been two sentances but right now I am like "eh fuck it." But really hold on to them. Just make sure you don't drop them on someone that has dropped a good amount on you in the last couple of days, because that will be red flagged by mods as "mod trading"

I feel a little sorry for the negmodding I gave you yesterday. It was just the fact that I had posted a journal not ten minutes earlier saying "Don't leave quotes on image comments" because I get tired of having 15 new comments that are just quotes from whatever TV show/movie/Internet cartoon the image is from. It gets really old, really fast. I'll make it up to you.

that made me laugh. but it pretty much describes my dating life from the ages of 16-20.
when I was little he was a lot bigger. he used to work out with alot of the saints players.
his legs were too big to fit into blue jeans. its a good thing he's a preacher and not mean.
he used to have long hair though, and he looked more like a big scary biker.

I've never been what people would refer to as the popular kid and it's mostly because I refuse to jump through their hoops. be proud of your independance. people are sheep that is true despite how you act but try hard not to be like the others.

by the way I decided to post a new journal and you're in it.

lol, I like your comment you left on Heathers journal about our parliment building...funny thing is they just spent a couple of a million making the INSIDE pretty...which I think is a load of bull because like every other country that money could have gone into so many more things other than making a building look nice, especially a building which only a small percentage of people actually go into...bloody politicians, cant live with them, cant kill them.

noone I know will appreciate this as much as you.
I get a call this morning at 8. our worship leader is sick
and wont be at service. therefore leading falls to me.
I get to church and the soundtracks, yeah, they're locked up.
I go through the powerpoints one by one, and finally find a set of songs,
that A.) everyone will know since there will be no practice,
b.) havent been sung in awhile to keep it fresh, and
c.) I can hopefully remember all the cue's and orders.
well. get everything set up, singers arive, thankfully they know and are confident with all the songs.
get ready to go, open service. didnt study for an intro, so prayer and wing it.
( this is HORRIBLE, I think people were laughing AT me.)
get through the first song, pretty fast paced, crowd gets into it, goes well. start second song.
MONITOR GOES OUT, kaput. I cant HEAR! no music, no me, no voices behind me.
I dont have any of the papers with the order of the song on them, I am winging this from memory,
and I cant hear. this went on for the last three songs. I was MORTIFIED. I'd trade you for a jerky choir director any day,
but the faulty sound system PWND my face.

I'll do my best sir. I'll wear it everywhere, tell everyone I know about it, and if you come to FanExpo next year I'll even sit at the booth and sign some and sell them like hot cakes.

Fine. But if you do make Screwed shirts, and if you use Quotes from the show, and if I get to be the Irish guy... (yeah, that is a lot of if's)

If you make one with a Irish guy qoute, I'll love you like a brother. It's my life long dream to have a shirt with a quote I said on it. smiley0.gif

Has it even started? How can something that has not even been made be more popular then something that has been out for a while?

Yeah. But as long as they won't remember it, then I guess you are ok. Just get them really drunk. Then take some embarrassing photos, you and can black mail them for some awards! smiley8.gif

I'm pretty good... I've only had a few alcoholic beverages, and I've never been drunk. I'll have to try out a few times before RvBTO... so I don't make to big a fool out of myself. smiley8.gif

It's 19, so next year is going to rock. Beside, it's also fun watching people get drunk when you are sober... you get to laugh at them. smiley0.gif

Dan is a great guy to drink with, I could not drink this year (damn age laws smiley5.gif ) but I will be able to next year... I'm already promised Dan the first round is on me. Cool, I look forward to meeting you next year. smiley0.gif

    • film_geek

Ooooo... that would be awesome! smiley0.gif RvBTO is just a bunch of RvB fans meeting (and getting drunk at the bar with the staff... good times) RvBTO does not have booths, it's just a big party. I don't know the date for RvBTO yet.

FanExpo (the thing I was just at) is the place to rent booths. Lots of aspiring film makers get booths, the one for next year is august 26, 27, 28. I believe, if not that date, right around then.

Sorry I too so long to get back to you, I had a phone call.
