How can the federal government sue a state for enforcing the law and do nothing while "sanctuary cities" openly violate it?

I'm absolutely baffled by what's going on in our dear leader's head. Not with McChrystal's resignation, mind you. Anyone could have seen that coming. I mean with Obama putting Patreaus in charge over there.

Does anyone remember Obama, Clinton, and Biden calling him a liar when he reported on the first surge under Bush. Obama even called the surge a foolish strategy that was a failure from the beginning.

Now, he's putting a general he called a liar in charge of a strategy he called a failure. Clue-meter reads zero.

    • BP Oil Spill - Big Gov't still bad

      Mecatchfish

Conservatives have taken a lot of heat for questioning the lack of government response to the oil spill. We've been labeled hypocrites for our remarks that the government could have stopped this.

The oil spill is actually a shining example of why the government shouldn't get involved. See, after the Exxon-Valdez disaster, the federal government set up a plan to deal with another oil spill. We don't really know what went into it or how much it cost, but we can make an educated guess. Here's what I'd do if I was a big government liberal trying to create an emergency action plan:

First and foremost, we can't go to the oil companies and ask what they'd do to stop an oil spill. (They are the enemy, after all.) And, we can't just brainstorm about what to do with experts in the field like meteorologists and oceanographers. No, this far too important. We need some hard research done. So, I'm going to contract it out to a major research firm. It'll be mere coincidence that the head of that firm just happened to be an old college buddy of some congressman that I might need a favor from somewhere down the line. There will obviously be a scale model built. It'll be a giant multi-million gallon tank filled with seawater (the bigger the better). It'll have a shoreline carefully sculpted to look just like the many coasts of the United States. Numerous underwater surveys will be conducted so that I know exactly how to sculpt the underwater topography. And, we all know that oceans have things like waves and currents. I'll need wave machines and pumps installed in the tank, but not just any wave machines or pumps mind you. We need top quality equipment because this is so important. I'll definitely shun the cheap low quality crap for the kind that cost $10 million dollars each. Oceans also have wind. So, I'll need a $25 million wind machine constructed to the same top quality standards as the other equipment. But, what if something breaks? We could just get it repaired, or replaced if need be. But, this is really important. What if there's another oil spill while we're waiting for the replacement to arrive. No. We have to be proactive! I need redundant spares of every piece of equipment in this experiment and I don't care if they charge us twice as much because it's a rush order. YOU CAN'T PUT A PRICE ON PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT! Pay twice as much. It'll be worth it in the end. And, of course, it's just a coincidence that some senator owns 10,000 shares in the company that made the equipment. Anyway, we'll put all this stuff together with scale models and dump a bunch of crude oil in the tank. We'll do this several times, trying several different methods of containing the oil until we figure which one works best.

Now, it probably didn't go exactly like this. But, we can rest assured of a few things when the federal government was involved: lots of money was spent and there was atleast a little corruption.

So, they did all of this. They spent all this taxpayer money. They did all this research.

But, it was all for nothing. Because, when the disaster struck, they sat on their hands and refused to do anything. All that money and effort was wasted because there was too much political power to be obtained from a major oil spill on U.S. shores.

And, that is why the government shouldn't get involved.

The sad thing is that there is simply an endless stream of stories about Muslims murdering their own children in cold blood like this one and this one.

I'll bring up the same question I have several times: If they'll kill their own children, what will they do to you?

Que the angry liberal who says that Christianity is just as bad.

      IN THE NAME OF ALLAH.
AND OF HIS FINAL PROPHET MOHAMMED (PEACE BE UPON HIM):

The true religion of Islam WILL ARISE in your area; you cannot stop Allah's will.

We have been watching your family; we have seen you go to church and pray to your false god. We know that you are infidels, and we will deal with you as our holy Quran declares:

In Sura Al Toba, Chapter 9 Verse 5, it says TO SLAY the idolaters wherever you find them; take them captive and besiege them.

It also says in Chapter 9 verse 29 to FIGHT OR KILL those who have been given the scripture and believe not in Allah or the Last Day or follow not the religion of truth.

If you and your entire family do not leave your false religion and follow Islam, you will be killed. Your sons will be slaughtered and your daughters will become Muslim wives, bearing sons who will fight for Allah in this region.

Your only other option is to FLEE TONIGHT. Leave your home and everything behind.

      ALLAHU AKBAR!

Greece has to give up socialized medicine!

"This is not some cranky or politically motivated demand. It is a condition based on the ugly reality of government medicine. The Times reports that economists â€' not right-wingers opposed to health care who want to blow up Times Square â€' say liberalizing "the health care industry would help bring down prices in these areas, which are among the highest in Europe."

I don't know what that comment about what it did to my state is supposed to mean, but honestly it doesn't matter. I could very well tell you that you need to let go of your zealous loyalty to your conservatism because of what its done to this country but the fact of the matter is that I don't feel the need to insult you just because we disagree. I'm not a liberal zealot, I just believe what I believe based upon what I've seen. If I saw anything that convinced me that my opinions are wrong, I would change them. I'm not opposed to changing my mind. But I also refuse to be bullied into admitting I'm wrong when I don't believe I am.

Mmm, yeah. Wouldn't want to hurt our thriving economy by reforming it to house industries that have huge potential to keep our economy more stable in the future. You're right, that would be an awful idea.

And as far as being choked with taxes go, its a small price to pay for something that would benefit everybody in the long run. If you don't pay one tax, it'll be another. Might as well be for something useful, for once.

In Alabama all talks involve guns. Most things involve guns.

    • islandkitty

Yeah, I've heard that the data was tampered with so that it would say what the scientists supporting the validity of global warming wanted it to say. But to me, that's besides the point. I don't think going green is important because of what Al Gore or anyone else says. I think its important because I for one would like to live in a cleaner world.

And really, almost every large movement in the history of mankind has had a very blurry line drawn between fact and fiction. The truth always becomes a bit of a nuisance when people are trying to prove each other wrong.

All I'm saying is, I don't need scientific data to know that the fact that its been snowing in my area is NOT supposed to happen. Even IF global warming is 100% false (which I doubt), what harm does going green really do? With changing technology comes the changing of industries and economic structure. As always.

What I said in that last comment still stands. Tis my humble bleeding heart liberal opinion.

    • islandkitty

      I think that's a little melodramatic.

And just because the government is the one starting the green movement doesn't mean they'll be controlling it. For that to really take off its going to take cooperation and entrepreneurs from the private sector as well.

The government had a huge hand in making sure the auto industry as we know it today took it off in the first place, and (bailouts aside) that's made up of almost entirely private corporations.

The moral of this story is, I think that the "the government will just do the same thing so why bother" argument is really, really lame.

    • islandkitty

Believe it or not, I didn't have the urge. smiley6.gif The people who do things like that don't do it because of their relationship with whatever god they believe in. They do it because they have their own issues so they take things (like religion) out of context to absolve themselves of responsibility for their own actions.

Happens all over the place. Like the Holocaust. Had nothing to do with religion. Hitler was just really, really fucked up in the head and the Jews and minorities were simply his scapegoat.

So, I didn't resist any urge... believe it or not. xD

You don't understand. If Stalin, who killed millions of innocent people, were to have repented to Jesus moments before death, he would be spared the wrath of hell and would get go to heaven forever and be happy, but the atheist he killed, who never killed anybody and was very loving, generous, and caring, and never even new who Jesus was goes to hell forever because he didn't believe in Jesus. How the fuck is that justice?

    • Demon505

I accept punishment for wrong doing, but your gods punishment is cruel. And god doesn't send people to hell simply because the did something wrong, it's because the don't worship him. If Stalin accepted jesus as his lord and savior moments before he died he would go to heaven. However all the innocent people he killed that were atheists, and he did kill atheists BTW, would be in hell. To me that's the injustice.

I don't feel bogged down by fear of a big god who is always judging me and telling me that I am wrong for everything I do. I don't fear hell because I know it isn't there. Atheism has freed me from god, a mean and cruel god. God is claims he loves you and want you to think for yourself in the bible. But if you disagrees with him he'll send you to a place where you will burn forever and ever. That sure sounds loving.

So does that means the crusades were all political as well then?

    • Demon505

You're damn right I'm defending Muslims, because unlike you I don't look at them as terrorists simply because a few bad people started killing people in the name of Allah, which by is only the Arabic word for god. Most Muslims are not terrorist and most terrorists are not Muslims. Sure the Muslims can use the Koran to justify killing people. But I showed to a verse in the Bible that can be use to justify killing a gay man, thus fueling hatred towards gays. So don't call the Koran violent without taking in consideration for your own religion's holy text and how it can be used to fuel hate.

Going back to what you said about atheism killing people. Every single atheist you named killed people in the name of communism, meaning these were political killings. Name one mass murderer that was an atheist and not a communist and used his disbelief in god as justification for killing people.
