...since I've been here, but such is the life during school. And when other hobbies take over. Most notably, I've been working on porting a bunch of ships from Halo to the flight sim X-Plane. I've been front-paged a few times on Halo.Bungie.Org, but the latest one includes links to all my previous posts, so I thought I'd share it, along with my latest project: the Pelican Dropship!

Here's the link to the news post

    • Flying the Longsword....again!

      Mid7night

      Hello all!

Last night I finally flew the first ever formation flight with two Longswords. My friend lives in Dublin, Ireland, and we linked up in X-Plane multiplayer online and flew around together experimenting with some formation flying. Again I must say how difficult actual formation flying is, especially if you're the guy trying to follow! Anyway, here are some screen-shots of the momentous occaision; I'm in the wingman position, my buddy is flying point. The first pic shows my friend hovering while I execute a close-up flyby. I also included some screens of inside the cockpit. The project is very near completion, we're just polishing the flight characteristics and instruments. We're hoping to make a short music video showing off this awesome fighter-interceptor for the final release. Stay tuned, and enjoy the pics!

The X-Plane Longsword project continues! This second orbital flight was....interesting... let's just say you don't want to lose half of your engines while exiting the atmosphere! My test pilot, Karl Caswell of Dublin, Ireland, has written a beautiful account of the flight. Follow the link and enjoy! Stay tuned for the final version, it's gonna be awesome!

I've been working on a flying version of the Longsword for a flight sim called X-Plane, and it's coming along quite nicely. I've got a friend in one of the X-Plane.org forums who's become my test pilot, and he recently took the latest version on its first trans-atmospheric test flight. Read the details and see the latest photos here:

Many thanks to Karl for his help on this collaboration. The final release is coming soon, stay tuned!!

So I started experimenting with putting the center gear actually under the nose, even though it's not visable in the Maw cutscene. Well, it looks SO much better than having a tail gear, I don't think anyone will mind. In addition, if you watch the cutscene carefully, it is PLAUSABLE that the nose gear is just barely out of frame in front of the ramp, or obscured by other objects in the frame. Also, the more I looked at the pic from the HGN, the more I was convinced that the center gear was under the nose.

Still no paint on the jet yet, but I'm finally happy with the look and shape of the model. I've added gear-doors, smoothed their fit, and I even added a workking ramp! I've attached a host of pictures, a short vid of the ramp operating, and a little fly-around vid showing the new gear retracting. Let me know what you think! The more feedback I get, the better it looks, and the more true I can make it to the original. Enjoy!

I've been working on a flying model of the Longsword for a flight sim called X-Plane, and I'd like some feedback on it. Mostly I need feedback on the landing gear. My main source for the gear is the HGN, page 102. They appear to be similar to an airliner's 4-wheel bogie, but the picture isn't very clear.

So I took some artistic license, and here's what I got:

      35ddmhe.jpg

      35iy5nm.jpg

      2ia3j12.jpg

      34445g6.jpg

Here is a short video of the retract sequence:

      Longsword retracting gear

I put the two main gears under the engine nacelles, but forward of center rather than aft. And I put the center "nosegear" towards the tail, somewhat like an old taildragger, but without drooping the tail. This results in a sort of reversed-tricycle gear arrangement. It looks a little odd, I grant you, but it actually doesn't affect handling terribly. And since the Longsword is primarily a VTOL aircraft, I'm not too concerned with the takeoff roll. Any thoughts?

      The Details:

I have a custom-made guitar, for which I ordered an appropriate custom case from a company called Flytecase. I now would like to order another case for my guitar pedals, but as you may have noticed if you clicked on the link, the page does not load. I also have tried emailing the owner, Richard Lee, however those emails have all been returned undeliverable. Finally, the phone number I have from my prior dealings now goes through to a woman who has no idea who Richard Lee or "Flyecase" are. Thus far, all of my searching on the web for what has become of Flytecase has been fruitless.

      The Mission:

I was hoping that one among you might have other tactics I have yet to think of or use that may help to solve this mystery. Or, failing that, know someone yourself who could. I know many of you won't care a bit about any of this, but I also know that there are at least a handful who are quite tenacious and love a good challenge. Well, this is some challenge if ever I could think of one.

Anyone care to take a bite?

...I play one in real life!

This is a picture I've been working on for a while, and it's finally finished. It started out as a photograph of my wife, and I worked it over in PS to make it look like an old-fashioned oil painting. I tried painting for real once, it didn't turn out so well, but this one I really like. Then again, I'm a little biased. :-)

I finally jumped into the Photo Mode in PGR3 and took some photos of one of my favorite cars: the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo. I know it's not the best car in the game, but I just love it. It's got a great balance of handling and acceleration, plus it looks awesome! I don't care that the real thing is a bear to drive, it's a race car for cryin out loud! And boy is it loud!

thanks! i thought about putting it on the front.. but i decided it would take too much away from the simplistic design, and i don't posess the tools to do a routed-inlay on the front. i'm not sure where i'd put it on the front anyway. it just doesn't seem right.

but yeah, it is a shame that three hours of work is going on the back side of the guitar.

yeah, a friend of mine was saying i should make keychains out of the design and sell them at beer stores to make millions.

i told him i'd just stick with the full-sized version =P

and now that i've started storing the bass on my bed in my dorm room, i should be making more steady progress. having it sitting next to me all the time screaming "finish me!" really helps with the motivation.

Whether it was deserved or not is not the point. She was still offended. You obviously woudn't be offended by those comments, and therefore you wouldn't have responded the way she did. The point is, she was offended, and that's what she was expressing. I'm sure you don't have a problem with people expressing their feelings?

No, not at all. But it's awfully hypocritical to attempt to offend somebody because they offended you.

    • Vlad

Not at all. If I posted pictures of myself in my underwear, I would fully expect people to call me a (cam)whore. What he said was in no way out of line, as it was well-deserved. =)
